fewyears,afterlocal JaredCoffeytookover asCommissioner2 yearsago.Ballfield Mix(dirt),newbases equipment,concession standupgradesand fundraisinghaveall beenupgraded.As manyknow,baseballis oneoftheoldestorganizedsportsinHowe andbyfaroneofthe busiest.Enrollment numbershavebeen breakingrecordsannually,theteamofvolunteersareconstantly facedwithadversity.
Baseballhavingfour fieldsandthreeconcessionstandstoupkeepandmaintenance canbeadauntingtask. Allfundingforbaseballiscoveredbyenrollmentfeesandfundraising.Attemptingto breakevenwasthe goalpriortotheacting Commissioner.HYB hassetitssightson makingtheirguest
HYBwastryingtomake duringtheoffseason.
RyanStoll,lifelongresidentofShermanand Howe,alongsidehiswife TaylorandsonMcCoy, whoattendsSummitHill Elementaryandplaysin HYB’s8udivision,connectedwithCommissionerJaredCoffeyto hearfirsthandwhatthe leagueneeded.HisconnectionsasaPartnerand SeniorVicePresidentof MYCONGeneralContractors,Inc.basedoutof Dallas,TXwasjustwhat theleagueneededto makeconstructionand cosmeticupgrades.
“Afteronemeetingwith Mr.StollIknewlistening tohimhewaseagerto helpandhehadtheresourcestodoit”says CommissionerJared Coffey.Onedayafter meetingRyan,hisfirst tradehitthegroundrunning.Hisfencecrew, LibertyFence,replaced allgates,chain-link, backstopsandstraight-
hadadequatestorage andimprovementstothe currentstoragesituation. Also,revampingthe remainingwoodtopped bleachersbyreplacing allthewoodwithnew treatedlumberwasa muchneededitemcompleted.Next,wastopresentanewlydesigned ConnexcontainershowcasingMYCONand HoweYouthBaseball VisiblefromtheHighwaytotheHoweCity Council.OnTuesday March4thCommissionerJaredCoffeypresentedtheconcepttothe HoweCityCouncil.All councilmembersapprovedwithnoobjection.Like.thefence crew,MrStollhadthe Connexcontainer droppedonedayafter approval.Lastweek, NorthTexasDrywall& Paintshowedupbetweenraintotastefully paintalloutbuildings Bulldogblackand white.Thisweekcrews
asMr.Stollandhis familymadeahuge contributiontowards thefutureofHYB. Howeisblessedto havehimseetheneeds ofthecommunity,and withouthesitationhe madetimelinecommitmentsandsawthese throughtotheend.
HYBhasitssightsset onafuturesitefora “Four-Plex”complex on46acreseastof downtown,andwith thesecapitolimprovements,thefutureof HYBhasnowcontinuedtoprovidetheguest experienceuntilmovementoccursforitsnew endeavor.Noneofthis wouldbepossiblewithoutthehardworkand dedicationofHYB boardmembers,communityleadersandcity participation.Thank YouMr.andMrs.Stoll!

PriceDanielwas oneofthefewmen inTexasHistoryto serveinallthree branchesofstate government–as governor,state legislator,and stateSupreme Courtjustice. Hewasknownforhis senseofrightandwrong,buthis standsweresometimescontroversial. Inapoliticalcareerthatspanned decades,Danielbecameoneofthe mostwell-knownfiguresinthestate. BornMarionPriceDaniel,Sr.,inOctober1910,hewasthesonofarancher. Hewasbornjustoutsidethesmall SoutheastTexascommunity ofDaytonandwastheoldestofthree children. Hewasaconscientious,hard -workingstudent. Asateenager,he movedbrieflytoFortWorth,wherehe graduatedhighschool. Afterhighschool,heenrolled atBaylorUniversityinWaco. Tohelp payforcollege,heworkedasareporterfortheformerWacoNewsTribuneforatime. Hegraduatedwith alawdegreein1932andreturned toLibertyCountytopracticelaw. Hequicklybecamearespectedattorneyintheareaandwonfameinaseriesofhigh-profilelocalcases. Healso brieflyranalocalnewspaper. In1938, hewaselectedtotheStateHouseof RepresentativesasaDemocrat. He servedontheJudiciaryCommitteeas wellastheOil,Gas,andMiningCommitteeandsupportedtheoilandgas industry. Proposalsforastatesales taxemerged,andDanielbecamepart ofagroupknownasthe“Immortal 56”inhisoutspokenoppositionto it. Respectedbyhiscolleaguesforhis energyandintegrity,hewaselected SpeakeroftheHouseforthe1943session.
Thesessiontookplaceinthemidstof WorldWarII. ThoughstilltheSpeakeroftheHouse,Danieldecidedto servehiscountryinanewwayand enlistedinthearmyattheendofthe sessioninMay1943. Hestartedasa privatebutwassenttotrainasanofficerandbecamealieutenantinthe judgeadvocategeneral’soffice. He servedmostlyinthePacificandwas honorablydischargedasacaptainin May1946. Immediatelyuponhisdischarge,he ranforstateattorneygeneralforthe Julyprimary. Usinghisfamefromhis warrecordandspeakership,hewon easily. Heworkedtodefeatorganized gamblinginthestate. Hisofficefiled morethan5,000lawsuitswhilehe workedondozensofcommitteesand recommendedhundredsofpiecesof legislationtothestatelegislature. However,twocasesinparticular stoodoutinhistimeasattorneygeneral.
In1947,anAfrican-Americanpost officeemployee,HemanSweatt,appliedforadmissiontotheUniversityof TexasLawSchool. Similarlytocases eruptingacrosstheSouth,though Sweattwasqualifiedforadmission, segregationkepthimfromattending becauseofskincolor. Asattorneygeneral,Danielhadtodefendthelawsof thestateatthetimeandtookthecase
allthewaytotheSupremeCourt. The SupremeCourtruledin1950that Sweattdeservedanequaleducation, andasaresultwasorderedenrolledin thelawschool.
TheTidelandsControversybecame anotherexplosiveissue. Inthelate 1940s,Texaswastryingtoenforceits mineralrightsintheGulfofMexico. Federallawclaimedthatthestate hadnojurisdictioninthoseareasand thatanyoilleasesbelongedtothefederalgovernment. Beinganoil-rich state,theTexaspublictookastrong interestinthecase. Danielargued thatTexashadan11-mileclaimdating toitstimeasanindependentrepublic. Thissparkedasharpcontroversy withPresidentHarryS.Trumanand hisbeliefthatfederallawsuperseded anyclaimTexasmighthavehad. The SupremeCourtagreed.
Asaresultofthecourtfight,in 1952,DanielrefusedtobacktheDemocraticpresidentialnominee,Gov. AdlaiStevensonofIllinois,infavorof theRepublicannominee,Texasnative Gen.DwightD.Eisenhower. Danielalsoannouncedhisrunfor theU.S.Senatethatyeartoreplacethe retiringSen.TomConnally. Heranas a“TexasDemocrat”indefianceofthe Trumanadministration’sstandsonthe Tidelandsissue. Danielwoneasily,as didEisenhower. In1953,Eisenhower signedabillsponsoredbyDanielto recognizetheTexasclaimonthe11milelimit. Theresultwas thatTexaswasabletoclaimhundreds ofmillionsofdollarsinthecoming years.
PriceDanielhadrisenrapidlyina shorttime. NowaU.S.Senator,his prospectsseemedlimitless. Andinso manyways,hiscareerwasonlybeginning.
TheKingandHis Heavenarecoming
Whenwewere youngweseldomthought abouttheafterlifesincewe weresofocused onthisone,but aswe growolder,we becomemore curious.Ibelieveinvisions anddreams,but Idonotknow anyonepersonallywho claimstheyhavebeentoheaven,however,I’veheardafewpeoplesaythey have.Eventhoughnear-deathand out-of-bodyexperiencesaboutheaven arecommon,I’mnotgoingtodiscreditthosewhoreallybelievethey haveencounteredaglimpseoftheotherside.Maywerealizethatallwe havetobaseourtheologyonisthe Bibleandit’sworthnotingthatJesus makesaprofoundstatementaboutthis inJohn3:13.
YearsagoIwasstudyingabouttheend timesasIwasteachingsomeeschatologyclassesandbeganfocusingon whatthenextlifewillbelike.There areafewplacesintheBiblethatgive hintsastowhatwewillseeanddoin heaven.Still,likeothersubjectsmuch ofitiscontroversialbecauseofdifferentinterpretationsandwhetherthe textshouldbeunderstoodasliteralor symbolical.WereadinICorinthians chaptertwothat,“Eyehathnotseen, notearheard,neitherhaveenteredinto theheartofmanthethingswhichGod haspreparedforthemthatlove Him”butifwekeepreadingwithin thecontextofthepassageweseethat Goddoesrevealspiritualtruththrough theHolySpirit.
IpraiseGodforallthelettersIreceive fromthosewhoareblessedbythese messages,butweallknowthe minuteIstarttalkingaboutdoctrines manyfeatherswillberuffled.So,to preventangerandhardfeelings,Itry tofocusonsubjectsabouttheChristianlifethatmostofuscanagreewith. Eventhoughmanybelieversdonot studyontheirown,havenevergraduatedfromseminary,oraredailyprayer warriors,Christiansarenotlacking intheareaofhavingstrongopinions aboutwhattheybelieve.Forthemajority,thereligiousknowledgethey haveaccumulatedthroughouttheir liveshascomefromwhattheyheard someoneelsesay,butwehavebeen commandedbyGodinSecondTimothythesecondchaptertorightlydivide thescripturesforourselvesthrough unbiasedresearchanddiligentstudy. Thereisalsoafaithfulgroupoftruth seekerswhoattendadultSunday schoolclassesandBiblestudiesand study ontheirownwhichgivesthemconfidencetodrawtheirownconclusions.I admitthatmyviewshavechanged overtheyearsasthemoreIlearn,the moreIseethingsdifferently.Idonot thinkthisisabadthingseeingthat aswemature,wearedevelopingand expandinginourwisdomandunderstanding.Whentalkingaboutour eternalabodewithGod,letusagreeas Hischildren,thatwherewearegoing
andwhatitwillcontainisnotas importantasbeingwiththeonewe lovemorethananyoneoranything. Wearetoberevealingthenatureand characterofChristwithinourlives hereonearthnowsincewearemade in HisimagetoreflectHisglory.Likewise,theearthisatypeandshadowof heavenaccordingtoHebrews chapters8and9andwasmadeafter thepatternofwhereGodlives.We recallthefirstverseoftheBiblein Genesis1:1,“InthebeginningGod createdtheHeavensandtheEarth” andfromthementionofbothrealmsin thesamesentenceweseeaconnection betweenthespiritualdomainofGod’s throneandthenaturalrealmwhich wasmadelaterthatreflectssimilar attributessuchasatabernacle,sanctuary,priest,light,worship,rivers,trees, fruit,streets,banquets,cities,andsoon.
