Captain Abston is a native of Halstead, Kansas, where he attended Halstead Rural High School. Upon graduating he went into the Air Force and was stationed at MacConnell Air Force Base. After 21h years of Air Force service he went into the Army for 31h years and achieved the grade of Sp. 4. When he left the service he attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1967. He taught World History and coached football and track in Independence, Kansas from 1967 to 1970. He then came to Howe in 1970. Capt. Abston received his Master's Degree in History from Kansas State College. At present he is the Tactical Officer in Company Band teaches World History and Modern European History. It is to you, Captain Abston, that we the class of 1974 dedicate the 1974 Tatler.
