How Brave is the Wren - Family Storytelling A fun game for all the family! We will show you how to make a simple story cube. Each person takes turns to throw a story cube and dice to determine a character, prop, setting, problem, solution and a last line for their made up short story. This step by step shows you how to make two simple cubes to decorate for the game. One for the prompts and one with just numbers like an ordinary dice. What you need; Old cereal box Pencil Ruler Scissors Glue or double sided tape Handwriting pen/pencil Magazine - optional Scrap paper What to do; 1. On the Manila side of the cereal box cardboard, measure 32cm x 8cm and divide into 4 squares of 8cm x 8cm, lightly mark out guidelines of the 4 squares in a row 2. To one of the squares add two more 8cm x 8cm squares either side. 3. Add small tabs approx 1cm to the vertical edges of the template and one at the bottom. See image for reference 4. Using scissors gently score along the lines with a ruler. 5. Cut out six squares from coloured paper slightly smaller than the squares on the template i.e. just under 8cm and glue to each square. 6. Construct the cube by adding glue or double sided tape to all tabs and folding into a 3D shape. . Cube No.1 1. Write the category word; Character, Prop, Setting, Problem, Solution and Last line on each side. Instead of writing the words you can cut out letters from a magazine and stick down. An alternative for younger players is to stick six pictures from magazines on each side. On a separate piece of paper write down your imaginary characters and scenarios, we have suggested some - see below, but making your own up that’s the fun part!. You will need a minimum of six per category to give a good selection to choose from. Write them down on a piece of paper and number them 1-6. Each player will take it in turns to roll the dice together to determine each element of the story.
