JOINT PRIMARY ON MARCH 5TH

Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth announced today that the Republican and Democratic Parties in Texas’ largest county have agreed to conduct a joint election during the March 5, 2024 Primary election cycle. This means that the two political parties will jointly hold the election in common precincts, and voters from both parties will be able to cast ballots using the same voting equipment on Election Day. In previous years, the parties have held separate primary elections. “Conducting a Joint Primary will be a first in the history of Harris County,” said Clerk Hudspeth, the County’s Chief Election Official. “I commend the Chairs of each party and their

executive committees for their due diligence in arriving at an accord that addresses the challenges presented by new legislation and best serves Republican and Democratic Primary voters.” Senate Bill 924, passed during the 2023 Legislative session, provides that voting precincts cannot be combined in the conduct of a primary election. As a result, the political parties must open significantly more polling locations for their primaries, making it more challenging to conduct separate elections due to a lack of resources. “For Democratic and Republican primary voters, this year’s joint aspect of the Election Day

voting process will be familiar. It is the same voting process used for years in the conduct of early voting during Primary Elections, and it is the same Election Day voting process used when voting in a November election,” added Clerk Hudspeth. In Texas, primary elections take place on the first Tuesday in March in even-numbered years. The primary elections determine a political party’s nominees for the November general election. Aside from the approval of the county chairs of participating parties and the county elections officer, the governing authority of the County must approve the joint election agreement via resolution. For more election information, visit www.HarrisVotes.com or call 713755-6965. For news and updates, follow the County Clerk’s Office on social media at @HarrisVotes and @HarrisCoTxClerk.

SUPER TUESDAY- “VOTE EARLY FEBRUARY 20, 2024 THROUGH MARCH 1, 2024.”

“JUDGE ERICA HUGHES IS DULY-QUALIFIED.”

TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2024 - DEMOCRATIC PARTY CANDIDATE: Judge Erica Hughes is challenging Judge Mike Engelhart on “SUPER TUESDAY” in the Democratic Party Primary race for the 151st Civil District Court, in Harris County, Texas. Vote early February 20th through March 1, 2024.

Erica grew up with a father who served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the postal service, while her mother raised her. From an early age, she witnessed the injustices faced by individuals with low incomes, no political connections, or limited knowledge of the legal system. Erica pursued her education at Prairie View A&M University, where she further developed her understanding of civil inequalities. Her time in Prairie View, Texas instilled in her a deep desire to advocate for the disenfranchised. After completing her undergraduate degree, Erica received a full scholarship to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. In 2006, she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer and has since practiced law for over 11 years in Houston, Texas.

Early Career

Judge Erica Hughes, a former Houston Lawyer and Judge Advocate for the National Guard recognized the imperative of a fair and impartial judicial system. Observing instances where justice was not served for all, she decided to enter the judicial race. Some judges demonstrated closed-mindedness and bias towards defendants and attorneys, creating unequal treatment between low-income individuals with limited knowledge of their rights. Unfortunately, fairness in the judicial system often hinges on financial status, connections, race, and other extraneous factors that should hold no sway in matters of law.

Judicial Philosophy

Judge Hughes firmly believes that impartiality and an unjust justice system should not be accepted in Harris County, Texas, or the United States as a whole. With her deep understanding of the importance of a functioning criminal justice system, she is determined to address the issues stemming from unfair Judges sitting on the bench. Judge Hughes is dedicated to restoring integrity, fairness, justice, and honor for all individuals involved in legal proceedings.

Judge Hughes Wins Seat In 2018

In 2018, Judge Hughes was elected to the Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 3, where she joined 17 other accomplished women of color. Together, they made history in Houston by forming the largest group of African-American female Judges ever assembled in Texas. This incredible milestone is just the start of their remarkable journey. Additionally, Judge Hughes served as the presiding judge of the Harris County Veterans Treatment Court in Houston, Texas.

Federal Appointment

Judge Hughes was chosen by Attorney General Merrick Garland to serve as an Immigration Judge, where she will preside over cases beginning in January 2022. In addition to this new role, Hughes has been an esteemed member of the U.S. Army National Guard of Texas in Austin since 2016, serving as a Judge Advocate.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Good evening, my name is Brandi and I'm a concerned citizen in District146. I hope you are as fed up as I am with the ugly attacks and constant lies told by candidate Lauren Ashley Simmons about our Representative.

I've done my own research and here are the facts:

Big Lie #1. Lauren Simmons says we should trust her, but LAUREN still LIES about her background and character. She has been arrested on multiple occasions for the crimes of theft and fictitious identity. Scary.

Big Lie #2. Lauren LIES when she says Representative Thierry took away "healthcare" from our community. In fact, Rep Thierry passed the bill that expands access to Medicaid.

“CAUGHT WEB OF L

Big Lie #3. Lauren LIES when she said Ms. Thierry voted for the HISD takeover just like she LIED to the police when she gave a false identity while being arrested.

#Big Lie #4. Lauren LIES when she says Ms. Thierry voted with Greg Abbott. Rep. Thierry stood with her Democratic colleagues to STOP Greg Abbott and the Republicans from taking away our voting rights. Rep. Thierry is also endorsed the Houston Black American Democrats! Lauren Simmons and her political handlers are trying to STEAL this election just like she stole from a business owner and was arrested once again. TRUTHS -- Shawn Thierry is a graduate of Howard University and Texas Southern University Law School. She is a lifelong Democrat and has NEVER voted for a Republican in her life!! The people of District 146, deserve safe neighborhoods free from crime. VOTE for a proven LAWMAKER, not a repeated LAWBREAKER!

LAWMAKER

State Rep. Shawn Thierry is being challenged by a lawbreaker by the name of Lauren Ashley Simmons, and some guy by the Ashton P. Woods.

A PASSION FOR LOCAL POLITICS Kevin’s passion for being involved in the local politics started in 1992. Kevin was appointed to the City of Pearland Planning & Zoning Commission in 1994. Kevin then ran for City Council in 1995 and was successful. He served a single term to 1998. Kevin will tell you his biggest accomplishment while on Council was being a part of a Council that secured long-term water rights for the City. Kevin made the decision to run for City Council again in 2004 and was elected. He served 2 terms ending in May 2010. Kevin had several major accomplishments during this time. Cowart’s Creek diversion project was an item he ran on and was able to make it a part of the 2007 bond program. Today, it is complete and will help a large area of the City’s drainage. The Lower Kirby area has developed because the Council made the decision to focus on a market-based approach to the area. Kevin was able to utilize the skills as a real estate developer and help lead the Council to perform a market analysis followed by a market-based land plan. This led to rezoning the area based on the market and the Lower Kirby area finally took off. The City had become the de facto developer in that area by putting in the infrastructure, but the zoning really was difficult to deal with. So the City needed to act like a developer in performing this. The City was successful in the 2007 bond program election. This was the largest program in the City’s history and covered roads, drainage, fire stations, parks, and the natatorium/rec center. When the real estate economy collapsed in Sept 2008, parts of the bond program were able to be implemented quicker. Several roads were moved up to take advantage of better pricing. He was elected Mayor of Pearland on November 3, 2020.

“Since becoming the presiding judge for the 80th Civil District Court in Harris County, Texas, Judge Jeralynn Manor, has done an exemplary job serving the people as a minister of justice. She deserves a second term and should be reelected to this bench in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.” — AUBREY R. TAYLOR, publisher/investigative reporter.

PUTTING MY EXPERIENCE TO WORK Jeralynn Manor was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother was a nurse, and her father a career officer with the New Orleans Police Department. There he set the bar high for his daughter. He attained numerous awards and accommodations, including various achievements, such as becoming the first African American counter-sniper for the SWAT department and the first African American diver on the dive team. Manor’s hard work and high goal standards are certainly founded in her bloodline. Manor’s “service to all mankind” mantra and dedication to her craft is evidenced in her career achievements. Manor studied philosophy at Xavier University in New Orleans before finishing her undergraduate studies in Administration of Justice at Texas Southern University. She went on to Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she earned the American Juris Prudence Award in Bankruptcy under the tutelage of the Honorable Justice Manual Leal of the Southern District of Texas Bankruptcy Court and won 1st place in the Mock Trial competition. In 2001 Manor earned her Juris Doctorate and became a licensed attorney by the Texas Supreme Court. In her 17-plus years of practicing law, Attorney Manor has worked in several areas. She concentrated her early career as a fee attorney for 3 major title companies. Throughout her fee attorney and escrow practice, Manor closed and played an integral role in helping thousands of Texas to achieve home ownership. Judge Manor resides in Houston, where she raises her children and continues serving the community on and off the bench.

Our History

Way Engineering's quest for building excellence began in 1918 when a modest but dedicated refrigeration business opened its doors in Houston. Way Engineering, Ltd is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced mechanical contractors. We specialize in commercial air conditioning, plumbing, piping, and the maintenance of these systems. Way Engineering is at the forefront of design build/design assist, preconstruction, commissioning, building information modeling, and quality control. Throughout the years, Way has excelled by pioneering new mechanical system technologies and always striving to be at the forefront of technological innovation. As early as 1930, Way pioneered the use of ice as a cooling agent in early thermal storage air conditioning systems installed in churches and movie theaters, a technology used extensively today. Innovation and education remain two of the cornerstones of the Way “building excellence” philosophy. McCorvey Companies purchased Way Engineering, LTD. on December 3, 2012. It was an exciting venture for everyone involved. The company relocated to 8610 Wallisville Rd, Houston, TX. With new offices, more warehouse space, and new state of the art machinery, Way Engineering is stronger than ever. The Way commitment to building excellence began in 1918 and McCorvey Companies will continue that excellence into the future.
