“State Bar of Texas”

2018 Judicial Poll Winner

Judge Jackson’s passion for public service has not gone unnoticed. Her service to the community has led a number of organizations to recognize her. Judge Jackson was named “Best Criminal Court Judge of 2011” by the Houston Press, making her the first African American woman to be given this honor. D-Mars.com Business Journal awarded Judge Jackson the People’s Choice Award for two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Judge Jackson was named one of the “Top 30 Most Influential Women of Houston.” In 2015, Judge Jackson was recognized again for her judicial service to the community by the Lebanon Times magazine. She was a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Black Heritage Honoree, a Houston Bar Association-CLE distinguished member, and recognized by Houston’s Influential 40 Under 40. The Houston Sun honored Judge Jackson the “Women of Power and Purpose” award in 2013. In addition to breaking the barriers for minority women in the legal profession, Judge Jackson broke barriers for Houston Municipal judges by being the first judge to be acknowledged by the Mayor’s Spotlight City of Houston employee newspaper. In addition to her accomplishments at the state level, Judge Jackson has been recognized as a “Woman of Now” hall of fame honoree by the U.S. House of Representatives, 18th Congressional.

ISSUES

Public School Funding

Randy Bates knows, first hand, the value of a high quality public education. He believes we must invest in our most precious resource, our young people. All students deserve a quality public education. From birth and beyond, our young people are our future. Randy will fight for increased public school funding for the benefit of our children and our educators.

Criminal Justice Reform

The current state of our justice system needs a major overhaul. With prison overcrowding and too many young people sitting in solitary confinement, we must take a stand and combat the real issues facing our criminal justice system. Randy is committed to working to restore confidence in our justice

We must develop family sustaining jobs in the District. Randy's vision is to establish enterprise districts and reinvestment zones to help areas with struggling economies. Randy will also work to level the playing field for minority- and women-owned businesses so they have the resources needed for growth and job creation.

Lower Property Taxes Randy will fight against rising property taxes that threaten home ownership.

STATE BAR OF TEXAS 2018 JUDICIAL POLL Call (832)212-8735 for more information!

DEAR PRECINCT 7 REGISTERED VOTERS:

I am seeking this position because first I believe that I am qualified. Second, I believe that it is time for new leadership. I want to Bring Back the People’s Court. That means opening up the courthouse doors to the community in which it serves. It also means providing services, such as educational training, social services, and resources to Pro Se litigants who cannot afford legal representation. My goal is to partner with organizations in our community to provide additional services to those in need. Below are five ways, in which I plan to accomplish this goal: • Enhance courthouse technology by creating a ”Courthouse App” • Hold monthly night court and/or weekend court • Establish an onsite resource center for Pro Se Litigants • Open up the courthouse doors and allow organizations and professionals to host educational seminars • Work with the Constable’s office to promote safety in the community

LETITIA PLUMMER FOR U.S. CONGRESS 22ND DISTRICT OF TEXAS

I grew up in Houston watching my father make a difference in people’s lives every day through his dental practice, and It was his example that inspired me to pursue my own career. Today, I am a woman on a mission, to give people great smiles, boosting their confidence and sense of self-worth. Thanks to years of hard work and perseverance, and with the support of the best staff any small business owner could ask for, I own a successful dental practice with two locations serving the communities of the 22nd Texas Congressional District. My practice was not my first venture into owning a business, however. Shortly after graduating from Atlanta’s historic Spelman College, I started a company called Safe Hands selling latex gloves. While I felt sure I wanted to follow my father into dentistry, I wanted to gain experience managing a business first. I quickly learned that managing a small business is one of the toughest things you can do—and I was hooked. The rewards of running my own business gave me the courage to return to school and pursue my dental career. Being self-employed has helped me develop a well-rounded perspective on the challenges

faced by middle income families today. I am confronted by the flaws in our healthcare system every day. I’ve found it difficult to find affordable, adequate coverage through the plans available to small employers like myself. If the heart of the American Dream is the ability to control your own destiny, then we need legislation that empowers people to innovate and forge new paths. Rather than hamper would-be entrepreneurs with unmanageable healthcare costs, we need to fix the Affordable Care Act for all Americans. I know I’ve been lucky. I chose a great career, and I was born at a time when a middleclass girl’s fresh out of college could launch a company, then build up a business to be able to overcome the inevitable bumps in the road. The opportunities available to young people of people trying to change careers today are not the same as those I or my parents had. These are not small problems. I’ve watched middle-class families get squeezed from every side by a political process that’s left their lives hanging in the balance. I decided it wasn’t enough to be angry about it anymore—it’s time to take action. I’ve served my community as a health care provider and an employer. Now I want to serve the people of Texas’ 22nd District in Congress.

...LET’S GO!!!

God will indeed prosper what He has in mind for us to do if we yield our mind, body, spirit, soul, and resources to His will and purpose for us individually, corporately and politically. So let’s work together as we harken to the spirit of God as He orders our steps, and imparts into us ”ALL” the wisdom, discernment, favor, and grace we need to change lives and claim more territory for the KINGDOM with a more potent GROUND-GAME.
