A FEW WAYS HB25 IS GOING TO CHANGE THE POLITICAL GAME IN HARRIS COUNTY

HB25 is going to force “ALL VOTERS” to do more research in their quest to make an informed voting decision in future elections. HB25 is going to force “ALL CANDIDATES” to reach out to voters beyond their “POLITICAL PARTY BASE” in future elections. HB25 is going to force “ALL CANDIDATES” to run more active campaigns to promote their brand, education, qualifications and platform in their individual capacity, rather than relying so heavily on “COORDINATED CAMPAIGNS” funded by their political party. HB25 will give “TEXAS VOTERS” a better chance to remove a “BAD” or “UNQUALIFIED” elected official from office at the ballot box in future elections. HB25 will pull back the “PROTECTIVE VAIL” or “POLITICAL PARTY COVERING” many candidates from both parties currently enjoy. HB25 will force “ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS” to be “MORE ACCOUNTABLE” to the people they are sworn to serve. HB25 will force “THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY” and “THE REPUBLICAN PARTY” to pay much closer attention to which candidates they nominate during “PRIMARY ELECTIONS” in the State of Texas. HB25 will give “GOOD QUALIFIED INCUMBENTS” a better chance to remain in office in the event they’re faced with running for re-election during an “ANTI-INCUMBENT” election cycle. HB25 will make it easier to defeat candidates who switch their “POLITICAL PARTY AFFILIATION” for political gain at the ballot box in future elections. HB25 will afford candidates who are “LESS FUNDED” or “POLITICALLY CONNECTED” the opportunity to be more competitive in future elections. HB25 will make it easier for “TEXAS VOTERS” to identify and support candidates who value, respect, and ask for their vote, prayers and support in future elections.”

THE “GAME-CHANGER”

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020 The State of Texas Will Say Goodbye to Straight Ticket Voting

In case you don’t already know, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 the State of Texas will kiss the “STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING OPTION” goodbye thanks to Governor Greg Abbott and several other members of the Texas Legislature. Overall, this is a very good move for the State of Texas, because it will give the power back to the people! So, on behalf of Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, the publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine© we would like to personally thank Governor Greg Abbott; THE SPONSOR OF HB-25: Senator Kelly Hancock who represents Senate District 9; THE AUTHORS OF HB-25: State Rep. Ron Simmons House District 65 | State Rep. Lyle Larson House District 122 | State Rep. Jodie Laubenberg House District 89 | State Rep. Sarah Davis House District 134 | State Rep. Pat Fallon House District 106; and THE COAUTHORS OF HB-25: State Rep. Greg Bonnen House District 24 | State Rep. Angie Chen Button House District 112 | State Rep. Jeff Leach House District 67 | State Rep. Tom Oliverson House District 130 | State Rep. Tan Parker House District 63 | State Rep. Joe Pickett House District 79 | State Rep. J.D. Sheffield House District 59 | State Rep. Drew Springer House District 68 | State Rep. Phil Stephenson House District 85 | and State Rep. Valoree Swanson House District 150 for doing away with the “STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING OPTION” in the State of Texas.

So, with this in mind, here are our “PROHIBITIVE FAVORITES” based on our Houston Business Connections Magazine© “POWER RANKINGS” for each of the 31 Texas state senators heading into the Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Democratic Primary and Republican Primary season in the Lone Star State.

The Texas Senate is composed of 31 members who represent 31 separate geographical districts in the State of Texas. Some of our Texas state senators must run for re-election in “THE 2018 MIDTERM ELECTIONS” before they will be faced with the prospects of having to deal with voters not being able to vote for them as part of “THE STRAIGHT TICKET OPTION” for their respective party. So, unless one of these state senators is defeated by a candidate from within their respective party’s primary nomination process, or chooses to not run for re-election, the passage of HB25 will have “VERY LITTLE EFFECT” on whether any of them will be able to continue their service in the Texas Legislature – based on the way their districts are drawn.

Bob Hall (REPUBLICAN) is the Texas State Senator for District 2 – This seat will be on the ballot in the Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Republican Primary. COUNTIES REPRESENTED: Part of Dallas, Delta, Fannin, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains, Rockwall, and Van Zandt. The Republican nominee will be our “PROHIBITIVE FAVORITE” in the race for “STATE SENATE DISTRICT 2” in 2018 unless a Democrat comes along and proves that they can win this district. However, please keep in mind that our “ENDORSED CANDIDATE” in 2018 may not necessarily be State Senator Bob Hall in this race.

HB25 WON’T IMPACT STATE SENATE RACES IN 2020 VERY MUCH

STATE SENATOR BRYAN HUGHES WILL BE UP FOR RE-ELECTION IN 2020

However, please keep in mind that our “ENDORSED CANDIDATE” in 2020 may not necessarily be State Senator Bryan Hughes in this race.

Q

THE POLITICAL “GAME-CHANGER” HOW HB25 WILL IMPACT BLACK CANDIDATES QUESTION: Could African American Democratic countywide candidates in Harris County find it tougher to win elections once House Bill 25 becomes law on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in the State of Texas?

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: Yes, I believe so. Based on my research, when given a choice, some Democratic voters who chose to not vote a “STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC PARTY TICKET” back in the Tuesday, November 8, 2016 “General Presidential Election” actually went down the ballot and either voted against African American incumbent judges or chose to not cast a vote on behalf of incumbent African American “INCUMBENT” Judges like: Maria T. Jackson (339TH DISTRICT COURT) and Elaine Hubbard Palmer (215TH DISTRICT COURT). Now, I know this comment is going to be a tough pill to swallow for a lot of folks -- but this is true. The numbers don’t lie. So please don’t shoot me -- I’m just the messenger -- the final numbers speak for themselves.

Q

A BIT OF ADVICE FROM AUBREY R. TAYLOR: The Harris County Democratic Party must do some real soul-searching to find out what’s going on whereas Democratic support for their African American countywide candidates is concerned. They must then find creative ways to specifically assist their African American candidates (not minority candidates) and engage the African American community in more meaningful ways to remain competitive in countywide elections when “STRAIGHT-TICKET VOTING” ends in the State of Texas on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. Otherwise, we could possibly see every African American”INCUMBENT” swept from office as early as the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 “GENERAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” in my professional opinion. And they can ill afford to wait until 2020 to get started.

QUESTION: How will African American Republican countywide candidates be impacted by HB25 once it goes into effect in 2020 in the State of Texas?

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: In my professional opinion, I believe African Americans running for countywide offices as Republicans are going to actually find it easier to win in 2020 and beyond in Harris County. Heck, African American Republicans could actu-

16

ally end up being the true benefactors of HB25 once it goes into effect in my opinion. I say this, because my research seems to show that Republican (non-straight-ticket voters) in Harris County appear to stand firmly behind their African American nominees -- no matter who they happen to be running against. Republican voters just tend to stick with the candidate whom they believe will best represent their core values, ideals, and beliefs in my opinion. I think that’s why African American Republican judicial candidates like attorney Kevin Fulton and former Judge Clyde Raymond Leuchtag are ranked as the top two African Americans on our list at 17th and 23rd respectively.

A BIT OF ADVICE: The Harris County Republican Party should diversify their ticket a little more in 2018 and 2020 in my professional opinion. They must also make sure to let African Americans and other ethnic minorities know that they’ve always been a party of inclusion -- and that everyone is welcome. And they cannot sit back and allow others to define who they are going forward. It’s imperative that they do better in terms of sharing their rich African American history with Harris County voters. Heck, a lot of folks still don’t even know that African American were one group of Texans who would consistently support the Republican Party when it was founded in the Lone Star State. Before reconstruction, African Americans comprised about 90% of GOP membership in Texas. And during that period, 44 African Americans served in the Texas legislature as Republicans -- that’s more than we have currently serving in Austin today. Republicans must find creative ways to drive home this message and rebrand themselves. Yes, this will take a lot of work, but they have to let African Americans know that it was us who laid the early foundations of the Republican Party of Texas -- this is a must! The first ever Republican convention that met in Houston on July 4, 1867 was predominantly African American in composition, with about 150 African American Texans attending, and only 20 Anglos according to the Texas GOP history. Did you know that? This is a story that must be told!

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

The impact House Bill 25 is going to have on future elections in the State of Texas is tough to measure at this point. However, the impact of the decisions “STRATEGIC VOTERS” make in the voting booth will be more significantly felt thanks to Gov. Greg Abbott’s signing of House Bill 25 – WHICH ENDS THE PRACTICE OF “STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING” IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.”

(STRATEGIC VOTER POWER RANKING NUMBERS) for People You Should Know in Harris County, Texas

REPORT by AUBREY R. TAYLOR

In case you haven’t heard, Houston Business Connections Magazine© has assigned a “STRATEGIC VOTER POWER RANKING NUMBER” to (56) fifty-six candidates whose names appeared on the Tuesday, November 8, 2016 “GENERAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” ballot in selected countywide races in Harris County, Texas. What does this SVPR# actually mean? Well, the SVPR# will help us to better advise our new clients as to who they should run against in the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 “GENERAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” in Harris County, Texas. The SVPR# shows us where some of our existing clients stand with regards to “NON-STRAIGHT TICKET VOTERS” in Harris County. So, when coupled with other factors, the SVPR# gives us a unique way to gauge which potential Harris County candidates may have trouble winning their re-election bids without some serious branding and marketing assistance outside of their political party’s coordinated campaign in 2020 when HB25 becomes the law of the land in the Lone Star State. And finally, the SVPR# gives us a pretty good indication of which potential candidates (and incumbents) would be tough-to-beat without “THE STRAIGHT-TICKET VOTING OPTION” being a factor.

WE’VE ALWAYS ENCOURAGED OUR READERS TO VOTE STRATEGICALLY

So, who are “STRATEGIC VOTERS” in Harris County, Texas? Well, based on research by Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, the publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine© “STRATEGIC VOTERS” in Harris County, Texas are: (1) Voters who do not vote a “STRAIGHT-TICKET” on Election Day. (2) Voters who always “DO THEIR HOMEWORK” before going to the polls on Election Day. (3) Voters who cast their ballot with a “SPECIFIC PURPOSE” in mind on Election Day. (4) Voters who endeavor to elect the “MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES” up and down the ballot on Election Day. (5) And finally, voters who “CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THEIR VOTING POWER” and know how to use it at the ballot box on Election Day.

HOW OUR “STRATEGIC VOTERS” WILL IMPACT 2020

What impact are “STRATEGIC VOTERS” going to have on the Tuesday, November 3, 2020 “GENERAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” in Harris County, Texas? Well, a definitive answer to this question is tough to pinpoint at this time. However, what we do know with complete certainty is that the impact our “STRATEGIC VOTERS” are going to have when they go into the voting booth will be the difference between winning and losing for many 2020 Republican and 2020 Democratic candidates up and down the ballot in Harris County, Texas – especially since the signing of House Bill 25 will be in full effect. In case you don’t already know, HB25 will “OFFICIALLY” become law and end the practice of “STRAIGHT TICKET VOTING” in the State of Texas on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. However, as a result, some people believe the passage of HB25 is going to somehow disenfranchise minority voters – BUT THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE THE CASE BASED ON OUR RESEARCH – because all minority voters will have to do to guard against being disenfranchised in 2020 is to simply go into the voting booth and cast their ballot – just like every other registered voter in the State of Texas will have to do for the candidate of their choice! So, the onus will be on each specific candidate along with the help of their own political party to educate, empower, motivate, mobilize and encourage their base to go to the polls and support their nominees.

WHO WILL “STRATEGIC VOTERS” CHOOSE IN HARRIS COUNTY?

It is unclear at this time exactly who “STRATEGIC VOTERS” will cast their ballot for in Harris County, Texas? However, the Houston Business Connections Magazine© “STRATEGIC VOTER POWER RANKING NUMBERS” indicate a few things about these voters every candidate should know: #1: “STRATEGIC VOTERS” tend to favor candidates whose name they recognize. #2: “STRATEGIC VOTERS” tend to vote for the candidates whom they believe to be the most qualified candidate regardless of their political party affiliation. #3: “STRATEGIC VOTERS” appear to favor candidates who ask for their vote directly. #4: “STRATEGIC VOTERS” appear to vote for candidates they believe value and respect their vote. #5: STRATEGIC VOTERS” appear to look for specific candidates whom they believe will represent their individual ideals, interests and values.
