REMINDER: “Election Day is on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.”

Attorney Megan Daic is seeking to unseat incumbent Democratic Judge Ursula Hall in the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Democratic Party Primary in Harris County, Texas. Judge Ursula Hall currently presides over the 165th Civil District Court.

Judge Ursula Hall appears to be vulnerable due to the fact that she only received 175,142 votes from voters who did not vote a straight-ticket ballot back in 2016.

Judge Hall was able to win her race back in 2016, largerly because of straight-ticket voting — there won’t be any straight-ticket voting on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

According to her website, Megan Daic is a local trial attorney with a wide range of experience representing individuals and businesses in litigation.

In 2016, she started her own law practice with one main goal in mind: to create a client-driven law firm that focuses on the needs of people in the community.

She wholeheartedly believes that the best part about the practice of law is getting to work with people from all different backgrounds who are experiencing a wide range of legal needs.

Although Megan was born in Long Beach, California to a California-native mother and an immigrant father, she moved to Spring, Texas in 1994 after experiencing a devastating earthquake in Southern California and has since considered herself a Texan at heart.

Megan attended Westfield High School here in Harris County and graduated a year early before attending The University of Texas at Austin. She studied Government and Spanish while at UT Austin. During college, she joined a service organization and regularly mentored elementary school students, helped paint houses, and assisted the Admissions office with recruitment.

Following college, she moved to Washington, D.C. to gain experience in government and public service.

After her year in D.C., she returned to Texas where she took classes in International Affairs and Government & Public Service at Texas A&M's Bush School of Government and Public Service. Following her coursework, she went on to work as a Program Director with a local non-profit organization, Genesys Works. While there, she had the unique opportunity to work with highschool students from various Houston high schools and help prepare them for college and their future careers. They gained practical experience in IT, engineering drafting, accounting, interviewing, and they were asked to apply to five (5) 4-year universities and 14 scholarships. This work was unbelievably fulfilling and it provided an amazing opportunity for these students to work for Fortune 500 companies in Houston and gain practical experience to add to their resumes.

After Genesys Works, Megan went to work for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America - a national non-profit. She assisted with development efforts and recruitment and continued to work there until after her first semester in law school.

In order to gain more knowledge and varying experience in government & public service, Megan decided to attend law school. She went to the University of Houston Law Center ("UHLC") where she competed in numerous interscholastic mock trial competitions.

She also served as the President of the Student Bar Association, Vice-Chair of Finance for the Advocates (an advocacy organization), Treasurer of the Labor & Employment Law Organization, served as a Student Mentor for the Office of Admissions, and was a representative and historian for the Sports & Entertainment

Law Organization. While at UHLC, she received awards for the Order of Barristers, the Distinguished Service Award, Class of '89 Service Award, and Graduate Student of the Year, to name a few.

Upon graduation from the University of Houston, she worked for a Plaintiff's medical malpractice law firm before working for a local Plaintiff's personal injury firm. She started her practice in 2016 and has since represented clients in a variety of matters from business disputes, personal injury claims, landlordtenant disputes, Chapter 7 bankruptcy, labor & employment matters, and debt defense, to name a few.

She also helps manage a debt defense law firm in Katy, Texas where the firm helps to represent consumers who have been sued by banks and credit card companies. She also teaches as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Law Center and is the Director of UHLC's Blakely Advocacy Institute's Alternative Dispute Resolution team.

In her spare time, she spends time with her family, friends, and her dogs, Bella & Scout. She also enjoys volunteering with the Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation at Kennedy Elementary and was an active volunteer at her church for over 9 years. For one of her newest endeavors, she is hoping to create a children's book series focusing on a young, aspiring, future lawyer.

Having grown up in Harris County since she was a kid, Megan is excited about the opportunity to continue to serve in the community and give back in this truly unique way. If elected to the bench, she intends to use her experience in the courtroom, knowledge of the law, organizational skills, and objectivity to do everything in her power to move cases forward in a timely and efficient manner to ensure that people have their cases tried, have their voices heard, and have access to justice in their community.
