Jones did not receive challenges to their 2020 bid for re-election from a fellow Democrat. However, Judge Steven Kirkland has a fellow Democrat by the name of Dawn Deshea Rogers challenging his bid for re-election. And yes, Judge Nikita “Niki” Harmon, unfortunately, has a fellow Democrat challenging her bid for re-election as well on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

I have over 20 years of judicial experience as a Judge. I have presided over numerous jury and bench trials. I have courtroom experience and knowledge of court processes and procedures. I received a B.B.A. from Texas Southern University in May 1983 and a Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of

Law in May 1990. I was admitted to practice in the State of Texas in November 1990. While a law student, I was the recipient of the prestigious Texas Young Lawyer’s Scholarship.

Throughout my life and career, I have served as a volunteer for a number of community activities and social organizations; donated free legal services, coordinated senior citizen workshops and established a book club for elementary aged-children. I am the former Legal Advisor for the McGregor Place Civic Club and sat on the Board of Directors of So La Ti Village, Inc. For my dedicated service, I have been honored by my church with the “Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award” and the recipient of “The Outstanding Young Women’s Award.”

"Fair, formed, and focused" is how I would like to be thought of. I believe in being fair which means being honest and treating everyone who comes before the bench with dignity and respect. It is my practice to be formed which means I will be organized and will run the courtroom efficiently and effectively. It is my aim to stay focused which means I will stay concentrated on applying the law consistently and fairly, even when it may not be the popular thing to do. The court system today faces many challenges, solutions to these challenges must come from those who work in the court system. I will solicit suggestions from everyone as to how we can do things better.
