JUDGES HOUSTON BUSINESS CONNECTIONS NEWSPAPER©

I’m sure you’ve heard all about “BLACK GIRL MAGIC.” Right? Well, the recent success of the nineteen African American judges who ran for office back in 2018 has almost turned some of our African American judges into celebrities. But being a celebrated figure also has it’s draw backs. So let’s keep our distinguished members of the judiciary in our thoughts and prayers. Have you heard the name Alfred Homer Bennett before? Well, Federal Judge, Alfred Homer Bennett was born in 1965 in Ennis, Texas. He was nominated by former President Barack Obama back on January 7, 2015, to a seat vacated by Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt to serve as Federal Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Judge Bennett was confirmed by the Senate on April 13, 2015, and received commission on April 15, 2015. What about Vanessa D. Gilmore? Have you heard that name before? Well, Federal Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore was born in 1956 in St. Albans, New York. She was nominated by former President William J. Clinton back on March 22, 1994. She was nominated to a new seat that was authorized by 104 Stat. 5089. And she was confirmed by the Senate on June 8, 1994, and received commission on June 9, 1994.

JUDGE GILMORE

PRES. CLINTON

U.S PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

Judge Yates Was Appointed by Pres. Reagan as the First African American Immigration Judge in the United States

D

Did you know that Judge Clarease Rankin Yates was appointed under President Ronald Reagan’s administration as the first female African-American immigration judge in the United States of America back in 1990? Well, she was. So, as we recognize African-American members of the judiciary, let’s not forget that we aren’t in the fight for justice alone. In case you don’t know, the Houston Immigration Court falls under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, which is a component of the Executive Office for Immigration Review under the Department of Justice. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and are therefore separate from the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). ***Call 713-718-3870 for more information.”

“We have not even seen our best days as a nation yet. So, we’re imploring each of you to remain “OPEN-MINDED” as God’s plan for America unfolds!”
