Different by Design
For most people, planning a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. For Claire and Matt, it was part of everyday life – except this time it was their own. With a snowstorm proposal, a daughter-led aisle performance and a dancefloor that never emptied, their Logie Country House celebration was anything but ordinary...
Modern love in the Northeast can start in unexpected places. For Claire and Matt, it was Tinder that did the matchmaking, with a first date at Lairhillock sealing the deal. “We knew right away this was something different,” Claire smiles.
Fast forward to December 2023, when Matt proposed during a snowy dog walk. “The storm was wild, we were trudging through snow with the dogs and suddenly Matt was down on one knee. I honestly thought he was joking at first!”
Planning weddings is usually Claire’s day job through her business Illumin8 Events – so to be on the other side was a surreal experience. “I knew my suppliers straight away, so the process was easy, but I had to remind myself this was our wedding, not someone else’s styled shoot!”
The first priority was the venue and Logie Country House owners Tim and Steph made the couple feel instantly at home. “Once we had Logie, everything else slotted into place,” said Claire.
Her vision was to flip the script and create a ballroom design that felt new and different, not like work. And with industry pals from Hays Florist, Northeast Events and Without a Hitch by her side, it was a dream team effort.
The bride: Claire’s Suzanne Neville gown from Perfect Bridal Rooms was understated elegance at its finest, clean lines, timeless fabric, and the confidence to let her statement hairstyle by Gemma Taylor take centre stage. Alterations by Martine Blair were the finishing touch.
The groom: Matt, with son Spencer at his side, headed to Mitchell Scott for sharp, contemporary tailoring. “They made it so easy to pull everything together,” says Claire.
The squad: A close-knit bridal party, with Matt’s lifelong friend (also Matt) as best man, daughter Neave as flower girl in white to echo her mum, and Spencer suiting up as ring bearer.
The Friday night before, guests settled in with pizza at Logie - relaxed, informal and very “them”.
The wedding morning brought a lovely calm. While Matt hit the gym in true-toform fashion, Claire enjoyed a laughterfilled prep session with family and bridesmaids. Luna, the family dog, trotted between rooms and Gemma Taylor, one of Claire’s closest friends, styled hair in the bridal suite.
The ceremony itself was led by the one and only Neil Mellis, known throughout the industry for his warmth and humour. Personal vows, readings from Matt’s sisters and a candle-lighting ritual made it deeply personal. “Neil made it feel like a true reflection of us,” says Claire.
The moment that stole the show, however, was Neave’s piano performance as her parents walked back down the aisle. Selftaught, she played the couple’s chosen song flawlessly, which Claire described as “honestly spine-tingling”.
Hudson’s delivered a wedding breakfast guests are still raving about. Speeches were full of heartfelt words and laughter, with hardly a dry eye in sight.
Claire and Matt had rehearsed their first dance for months to Luke Combs’ Forever After All. “I forgot every move the second the song started,” laughs Claire, “but it just added to the hilarity and joy of the moment.”
Entertainment was top-notch: Brodie from Standing Ovation kept the LED dancefloor alive, before More Than Sax brought a surprise ‘power hour’, a gift from friend Tracy at Without a Hitch. Guests spilled outdoors to enjoy Portsoy Ice Creams
under the spring sunshine, giving the celebration that perfect summer-party vibe.
When asked for their highlights, Claire reels off a list: “Our vows. Neave on the piano. Spencer’s little panic about losing the rings. Everyone mingling in the sunshine. And Luna being there with us.”
Her biggest piece of advice? “Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s the people and moments you’ll remember, not whether the décor was perfect.”
The couple jetted off to Greece the very next day for a week of much-needed sunshine and relaxation. “It was exactly what we needed after months of build-up,” Claire says.

Getting Started
Plan & Party
Engaged? Congratulations! Now comes the fun bit, planning the day you’ve been dreaming of. But don’t panic, with the right approach, your wedding journey can be joyful rather than stressful. Here’s your step-by-step guide to planning a wedding in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire planning a wedding with a sense of calm, style and a whole lot of excitement...
Planning
The first things to lock in are venue, celebrant and photographer. These shape everything else. Whether you’re picturing vows in a castle near Inverurie, a cosy city celebration in Aberdeen or a rustic barn in Royal Deeside, get it booked early. Humanist ceremonies are very popular here in the Northeast, so if that’s your route, secure your celebrant as soon as possible. And your photographer? Find someone whose style you love, these are the memories you’ll treasure forever.
Smart budget
Money talk might not feel romantic, but being clear on costs from the start keeps everything smooth. Work out your priorities. If food is
top of your list, dedicate more to catering. If florals are your dream, allow space for a showstopper arch. Think about what’s truly important to you as a couple. Supporting local suppliers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire not only helps small businesses, but also often works out more practical and budget-friendly.
Lists matter
Organisation is your secret weapon. Some couples adore spreadsheets, others live for Pinterest mood boards. Whatever works, stick with it. Breaking tasks into months helps, a 12-month cut-out guide (like you’ll find in GWD) keeps it all bite-sized. Remember: small, steady steps beat a lastminute scramble.
Weather wise
It wouldn’t be Scotland without a little unpredictability. Dream of sunshine by all means, but have a Plan B. Think chic umbrellas, cosy blankets or even baskets of ponchos. And if the rain does appear, embrace it - the photos will be stunning, and you’ll have a story to tell.
Fun factor
Planning should be enjoyable, not endless wedmin. Add treats into the process. Make envelope-stuffing a prosecco night with your bridal party. Turn a menu tasting into a date night. Or book a fun day out to visit potential venues. These memories are part of your wedding story too.
Personal touch
The best weddings reflect the couple. Swap tradition if it doesn’t feel like you. Don’t fancy a three-tier cake? A doughnut wall works. Not into ceilidhs? Try a live band or DJ who’ll fill the dancefloor in a different way. The most memorable weddings in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are those that feel genuine – your day, your way.
Keep perspective
Amid all the details, remember why you’re planning this in the first place: to celebrate your love. If something goes wrong (and something usually does), it won’t matter. What your guests will remember is the atmosphere, the emotion and the joy of the day.
Final word
Wedding planning doesn’t need to be stressful. With organisation, local suppliers and a focus on what really matters, it can be an exciting part of your love story. So, pour a glass of fizz, grab your notebook and start planning your celebration with as much love as the day itself. ♥

Bridal Couture
Designed for Confidence
Bridal dresses in 2026 are all about personality. Gone are the days of “shoulds” and “musts” - this year, brides are saying yes to gowns that reflect who they are. From dreamy ballgowns to sleek slips, and bold colours to playful separates, it’s the season of unapologetic self-expression.
From ancient robes to modern-day masterpieces, the wedding dress has seen it all: extravagant jewels, towering veils and even a time when white wasn’t the go-to colour!
The very early days
Long before boutique bridal shops and Pinterest mood boards, weddings were more about family status than following fashion trends. In ancient Rome, brides wore long, white tunics to symbolise purity and prosperity, while Greek brides draped themselves in flowing, colourful gowns with ivy crowns. So, flower crowns were always in!
Across different cultures, a bride’s attire wasn’t just about looking beautiful; it was a statement of wealth. The richer the fabric, the more impressive the family. Silk, gold embroidery, fur-lined sleeves… Nothing was too extravagant.
Rewind to the medieval and Renaissance periods
Here, wedding fashion only got bolder. Forget white, brides strutted down the aisle in deep reds, blues and greens, draped in luxurious velvets and brocades. The richer in colour the gown was, the better. And if you could barely walk under the weight of all those layers? Even better. With enormous skirts, trailing sleeves and embroidery, a wedding dress was so intricate it could have probably told its own love story. Brides clearly took the phrase 'dressed to the nines' very seriously back then.
Then, in 1840, Queen Victoria changed everything. Before her, wedding dresses were just fancy dresses; nothing drastically different from what a woman might wear to any other grand event. But Victoria? She stepped out in a white silk gown with delicate Honiton lace, and the world gasped.
White quickly became the bridal colour, symbolising not just purity but romance
Dress choice
The moment every bride dreams of - stepping into the dress that feels like home. In 2026, it’s not about ticking boxes; it’s about choosing what makes you shine. Whether that’s lace sleeves, a daring cut, or something altogether unexpected, the dress is there to tell your story.
Shape shift
Silhouettes are more varied than ever. Every cut has its champion - and the freedom to choose is part of the fun.
• The ballgown: Always dramatic, always romantic. Today’s versions are lighter, with airy layers that let you float through your day.
• The slip dress: Sleek, sculpted and timeless. Bias cuts and silky finishes give this style its understated glamour.
• The jumpsuit hybrid: Trousers meet tulle – with detachable skirts, brides can go from aisle to dancefloor in seconds.
• Corset detail: Structured yet soft, corsetry is back with sheer fabrics and playful lacing.
• Two-piece power: Mix, match, and make it yours with tops and skirts designed to work together.

Colour confidence
Ivory will always have its place, but it’s no longer the only choice. This year’s palette is braver, brighter and more personal than ever.
• Soft shades: Blush, champagne and pale gold bring warmth without stealing the spotlight.
• Dreamy tones: Powder blue and lilac are fast favourites for brides who want gentle colour.
• Statement shades: Emerald green, rich red and even black gowns are stepping into the aisle.
• Pops of colour: Belts, sashes and embroidered veils add a personal twist to traditional ivory.
Fabric stories
Fabric isn’t background anymore - it’s the headline act. What you choose to wear against your skin sets the mood for the whole look.
www.scottarlowphotography.com
• Satin and silk: Smooth, luxurious and endlessly elegant. Perfect for clean lines and a luminous finish.
• Lace: Always romantic, but reinvented with bold floral motifs and geometric patterns.
• Tulle and organza: Light and airy, perfect for layers and volume without weight.
• Sustainable textiles: Plant-dyed silks, organic blends and Scottish-woven fabrics are taking centre stage.

Double dressing
Why stop at one dress when you can have two? Brides in 2026 are switching up their looks to match the mood of the moment.
• Ceremony gowns: Full trains, ornate details and classic silhouettes.
• Party looks: Short skirts, sequins and feathers designed for dancing.
The change is more than practical - it’s about letting both sides of your personality shine.
Drama details
Accessories are no longer afterthoughts. They’re part of the dress itself, giving every bride a chance to personalise her look.
• Capes: Flowing satin or chiffon capes are replacing veils, adding movement and drama.
www.thehoggs.co.uk
• Detailed veils: Embroidery, initials and even favourite song lyrics stitched into tulle.
• Overskirts: Detachable skirts give a gown two personalities in one.
• Sleeves and gloves: Puff sleeves, sheer layers and opera-length gloves are firmly back.
Jewellery pairing
The right jewellery completes the look - and brides are choosing pieces that carry meaning as well as sparkle.
• Coloured stones: Emeralds, sapphires and rubies paired with sleek gowns.
• Mixed metals: Gold and silver worn together for a fresh, modern feel.
• Heirloom revival: Family rings reworked into pendants or delicate earrings.
The gown sets the stage, but jewellery adds the emotion.

Shopping journey
The way brides shop is changing. Forget crowded entourages and pressured choices - 2026 is about calm, confidence and connection.
Brides are bringing a select few trusted voices to fittings, focusing on how each dress makes them feel rather than how it photographs. Consultants in northeast boutiques are part stylist, part friend – encouraging experimentation and laughter as much as guidance.
One local bride put it best: “It wasn’t the dress I expected, but the moment I tried it on, I just knew. It felt like home.”

Real brides
The best inspiration always comes from real women. Recent brides in the northeast are already showing what individuality looks like in practice.
• One bride reworked her grandmother’s gown, adding a modern neckline and flowing sleeves.
• Another paired a sparkling mini with a detachable skirt, enjoying two distinct looks in one day.
• A third wore a soft blush gown embroidered with flowers, each bloom representing someone special in her life.
Fresh freedom
What sets 2026 apart isn’t just shapes, fabrics or colours – it’s mindset. Brides aren’t asking “What should I wear?” anymore. They’re asking “What do I want to wear?”
That simple shift is giving women permission to embrace freedom, creativity and confidence. It’s made dress shopping more joyful and less stressful, turning the journey into part of the celebration.
Final word
Your wedding dress should feel like you. Whether it’s silk or lace, ivory or emerald, a gown or a jumpsuit, the only rule is that you feel amazing. This is the year of individuality, and the dress is your chance to express it.
Here’s to the brides of 2026: bold, beautiful and completely themselves.
Bridesmaids Statement Squad
In 2026, bridesmaids are no longer fading into the background. They’re stepping forward, bold and beautiful, ready to bring just as much energy to the aisle as the bride herself...
Colour is the starting point. Forget the safe blush and sage – it’s all about rich jewel tones and glimmering metallics. Picture emerald dresses glowing under candlelight at Drum Castle or a squad shimmering in gold at a chic Aberdeen hotel. Photos practically pop when your bridal party wears shades of sapphire, ruby and amethyst.
The silhouettes are just as daring. Think asymmetric necklines, dramatic sleeves and flowing skirts with high slits - perfect for those “red carpet” moments on the dancefloor. And for bridesmen? Tailored suits in luxe fabrics keep the look stylish and cohesive while letting individuality shine.
Accessories are having their own moment too. Oversized earrings, chunky bangles, embellished headbands and even capes are bang on trend. Many couples across the northeast are gifting bespoke jewellery from local designers – a sentimental touch that doubles as a wedding-day statement.
Sustainability is still high on the agenda. Hiring gowns, shopping vintage or choosing re-wearable dresses means your squad can enjoy their outfits long after the ceilidh ends. It’s glam with a conscience.
So, what does it all add up to? In 2026, bridesmaids are more than a backdrop. They’re a statement squad, confidently stepping into the spotlight and celebrating in serious style. ♥ www.danirosephotography.com www.byrhea.co.uk

Mums'Outifts All Eyes on Mum
It might be her daughter’s wedding, but 2026 is officially the year mums are stepping into the spotlight. Forget stiff jackets and sensible shoes - the mother of the bride (and groom) is rewriting the style rules across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. From bold tailoring to accessories with personality, this is her time to shine.
www.byrhea.co.uk
www.byrhea.co.uk
Power dressing
The two-piece suit is leading the charge this year. Wide-leg trousers and sharp blazers in luxe fabrics are giving mums an effortlessly chic edge. Co-ords and jumpsuits are also gaining ground, offering comfort and glamour in equal measure. Prefer timeless? A-line dresses and the classic dress-and-jacket combo aren’t going anywhere.
Colour pop
Safe shades like navy and blush are still around, but 2026 is all about jewel tones. Emerald, ruby and sapphire bring drama to winter ceremonies, while brights like fuchsia and marigold light up summer weddings from Deeside to the coast. Metallic fabrics - think subtle shimmer or full-on sparkle - are also trending, giving a photogenic finish against castle backdrops.

www.byrhea.co.uk
Hat game
Hats and fascinators? Still essential. But they’re bigger, bolder and braver this season. Oversized brims add glamour to outdoor celebrations, while sculptural fascinators with feathers and twists suit city venues. For something modern, embellished headbands are fast becoming the go-to.
Shoes that last
Let’s be real: stilettos and ceilidhs don’t mix. 2026 is firmly in the camp of platform sandals, bejewelled trainers and sleek wedges. Style doesn’t have to mean sore feet, and with many local weddings lasting well into the night, comfort is the new chic.

Sentimental touches
This year is also about making outfits meaningful. Mums are weaving in family heirlooms - brooches, pearls or tartan trims - to bring heritage into the day. Sustainability plays a part too, with outfit rental and clever choices that work well beyond the wedding.
The vibe
In short, mums are going for confidence and individuality. Whether it’s a tailored emerald suit, a statement fascinator or a bold splash of colour, 2026 is their chance to step up and stand out. After all, the bride might be the star - but mums deserve a moment in the spotlight too. ♥

MagicMini
Short, sweet, and seriously stylish, the mini wedding dress is stepping into the spotlight. Perfect for second looks or all-night dancing, these shorter hemlines add sass and sparkle. Grooms
Groomed & Ready
From kilts to suits and everything in between, 2026 is giving grooms across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire the freedom to show up feeling sharp, stylish and completely themselves.
Kilt power
Tradition isn’t going anywhere - it’s just getting a modern twist.
The kilt is still the ultimate symbol of Scottish pride, but in 2026 it’s less about rules and more about personality. Some grooms are rocking the full Highland dress (Prince Charlie jackets, ruched cravats, the works) while others are switching it up with Braemar jackets, muted tweeds or even a bold dinner jacket on top.
If your family tartan isn’t quite your style, no problem. Universal tartans like Black Watch, Hunting Stewart and Scottish National are perfect alternatives. For rustic barn weddings, earthy muted checks are in. For city weddings? Vibrant, statement tartans are making their way back into the spotlight.
Local hire stars - McCalls, Georgian Dress Hire, Slaters and Mitchell Scott - are also reporting more bespoke tweaks: slimmer cuts, bold linings, unusual buttons. It’s proof that even a centuries-old tradition can keep evolving.
Suit story
Modern tailoring is taking centre stage - and it’s anything but boring.
Suits are enjoying a big revival, especially for grooms who want to go bold but skip the kilt. We’re talking deep colours like emerald, burgundy and midnight blue, plus luxe fabrics that suit the season. Think velvet blazers for winter castle weddings, breathable linens for beachside vows, and brushed tweeds for autumn ceremonies at Logie Country House. Three-piece tailoring is firmly back too. Waistcoats in a contrasting fabric or with tartan accents add interest without overpowering. Double-breasted jackets are also on the rise, giving a slick, European feel. And the neckwear? Bow ties and even open collars are giving traditional ties a run for their money.

Trews trend
For those who like their tartan with a side of comfort.
Tartan trews are making a proper comeback. They’re smart, flattering and way easier to dance in than a kilt - perfect if you’re planning a full night of reels. Pair them with a crisp white shirt, a tweed waistcoat or even a soft unstructured jacket for a sharp but relaxed vibe.
Hybrid looks are also big news. A kilt with a velvet dinner jacket? Yes. Trews with a simple grandad-collar shirt? Absolutely. This is the era of mixing and matching until you find a look that feels like you.
Colour stories
2026 is the year of confident colour - subtle or bold, it’s all on the table.
• Jewel tones: Emerald, sapphire and ruby velvets are statement jackets of choice.
• Earth shades: Rust, sage and oat are ideal for Deeside and countryside celebrations.
• Monochrome minimalism: Black-andwhite tailoring with tartan trims for city chic.
• Pops of fun: Coral pocket squares, mustard ties or playful patterned socks.
• Couples are coordinating rather than matching: which feels more modern. A blush bouquet might inspire a pale pink tie. A moody autumn palette might call for a plum kilt. It’s about complement, not copy.
Accessory game
It’s the little details that elevate the look from smart to unforgettable.
The sporran: This is your chance to show personality. Go sleek with leather, or luxe with vintage fur. www.byrhea.co.uk
www.jenniferriddell.co.uk
www.samanthaclyne.com
The Sgian Dubh: No longer just traditional, grooms are choosing eco-friendly wood handles, resin accents or engraved blades.
Cufflinks and jewellery: Engraved initials, watches passed down through families, or pieces from local jewellers like Jamieson & Carry, Finnies or Sinclairs make it all personal.
Shoes: Ghillie brogues are the classic choice, but polished Chelsea boots or coloured brogues are stepping in. Even trainers are appearing - comfort is king if you’ll be dancing till dawn.
Green choices
Sustainability is shaping every corner of wedding style - groomswear included.
Hiring instead of buying is the eco-friendly standard now, and Aberdeenshire hire companies are thriving as a result. When grooms do buy, they’re asking where fabrics are sourced and leaning towards Scottishmilled wools or organic cottons.
Vintage is also booming. Family kilts are being re-lined for a new generation, and secondhand suits are being tailored to perfection. It’s sustainable, stylish and sentimental.
Groom squad
It’s not just about the groom anymore the whole party’s in the spotlight.
Gone are the days of identical suits or kilts for every usher. The 2026 trend? Coordinated, not cloned. Maybe the groom wears a full kilt while groomsmen wear trews. Or the best man matches the jacket while ushers get their own twist.
Local shops are making it easier with mixand-match hire packages. Everyone feels comfortable, but the group still looks cohesive in the photos.

From Young Farmers’ discos to proposals with pet sheep, Nicola Wordie and David Scott’s wedding was a true celebration of farming life, family and love – with plenty of laughs along the way...
It doesn’t get more personal than this. On 23 December 2023, Davy enlisted the help of Nicola’s beloved pet sheep, Legs. A call about a 'sick ewe’ had Nicola racing across the fields, only to find Davy holding the old girl with the words “Will ewe marry me?” written on her.
“She’s part of the family, so it just felt right,” Nicola explains. She said yes on the spot and rushed home to share the news. The joy of that moment became even more precious when, just days later, Nicola’s mum passed away unexpectedly. “It’s been bittersweet, but that memory will stay with me forever.”
The ring came from Finnies in Aberdeen, chosen together. Nicola’s wedding ring was designed in a style close to her mum’s - a detail that means the world.
The couple didn’t want to wait long, but planning naturally paused after Nicola’s mum’s passing. “We had about a year once we booked the big things - venue, photographer, caterer, make-up and videographer. After that, I gave myself some space.” said Nicola.
Their choice of venue was easy: Aswanley. “It’s close to us, we know the team, and it has that farming, rustic, relaxed vibe. It really speaks for itself, so we kept décor simple - just flowers, lighting and a few family photos.”
The overall theme? Country-inspired and farming-friendly. “Mostly, we just wanted everyone to relax, eat well and dance the night away.”
Nicola admits dress shopping came with “mixed emotions” but says her bridesmaids were her super-supporters. After visiting two boutiques, she found “The One”: a timeless A-line with thicker straps, plunge neckline and cathedral-length veil edged with lace. She accessorised with pearls and her mum’s watch.
Her four bridesmaids - Sarah, Joscelyn, Rebecca and Claire - wore cornflower blue gowns with pearl detail. Davy wore his own kilt, paired with matching jackets for the best men. The couple’s Australian Kelpie, Roxy, played ringbearer - a role she carried out proudly.
The ceremony took place at Nicola’s local church, led by the upbeat and personal Dr Kay Gauld. After heartfelt vows, guests travelled to Aswanley while the couple nipped back to the farm for photos.
Drinks and canapés were paired with outdoor games before dinner by Val, always a hit. Speeches were given beforehand to keep nerves at bay, and the couple’s first dance was The Cows Are on the Hill by Derek Ryan. “It just had to be that – it’s so us!” Nicola says. A ceilidh band and DJ took care of the evening
party. “The whole day was happy, loving and just fun.”
For both Nicola and Davy, the best part was having everyone they love under one roof. After a minimoon at Cameron House on Loch Lomond, they’re now planning a honeymoon to New Zealand.
Nicola’s advice? “Don’t overthink it. If it’s not important to you, don’t do it. And if you think you’ve forgotten something, it probably wasn’t that important. Enjoy the build-up, because the day really does fly by!” ♥

Polished PerfectionBeauty
“The final touch that makes you feel completely you.”
Your hair and beauty choices are what pull your entire wedding look together. The dress may steal the spotlight, but the glow, the shine and the finishing touches are what make you feel like the best version of yourself. With 2026 trends leaning towards elevated natural beauty, it is all about enhancement rather than overhaul. A polished finish that lasts from the "I do’s" right through to the last ceilidh dance.
“When you feel polished, you glow from the inside out.”
Hair extensions
www.jenniferriddell.co.uk
Big, beautiful hair is having a major moment, and brides are embracing it with confidence. Soft, effortless glamour is the goal, with plenty of movement and texture. Hair extensions are becoming more popular than ever, helping to create everything from loose, romantic waves to sleek ponytails and intricate up-dos. The best looks use a combination of lengths and tones to blend seamlessly, creating fullness without the weight. Brides are also planning for longevity, choosing styles that hold up through the ceremony, dancing and those candid evening photos when the veil comes off and the fun begins. www.jonathanaddie.com
Lashes
No one wants mascara smudges or panda eyes on their wedding day. That is why lashes remain one of the most loved bridal beauty upgrades. This year, the trend is all about softness and flutter, with fine, feathery lashes that open the eyes and enhance rather than overpower. Many brides are booking professional lash lifts or semi-permanent sets ahead of the day to keep everything picture-perfect from morning prep to the final sparkler send-off. The look is romantic, timeless and completely camera-ready.
Makeup magic
For 2026, makeup is about glow and balance. Think flawless skin, natural blush tones and luminous finishes that work with your own complexion. The focus is on radiant, healthylooking skin rather than heavy contouring. Soft eyes, peachy cheeks and barely-there lips are trending, often paired with a touch of shimmer on the eyes or a glossy highlight across the collarbone for that “lit from within” look. Makeup trials are a must, giving you the chance to see how everything photographs and holds up throughout the day.
Nails
Your hands will be in the spotlight from the moment the ring slips on, so a little nail prep goes a long way. Classic neutrals remain a top choice, but 2026 introduces more creative twists. Expect to see subtle chrome details, pearlescent finishes and even micro nail art inspired by bridal accessories. Shades of soft pink, champagne and milky white dominate the palettes, perfectly complementing the sparkle of your jewellery. The most important thing is to choose something that feels like you, whether that is a clean manicure or something with a touch of glam.
Teeth whitening
A bright smile will never go out of style, and couples are increasingly planning whitening treatments into their pre-wedding timeline. The modern approach is subtle, focusing on natural brightness rather than stark whiteness. It is about achieving that healthy, confident glow that looks fresh in every photo. Brides and grooms are also becoming more mindful of overall oral care, ensuring their smiles are healthy and hydrated in the lead-up to the big day.
The finishing touch
Think of your beauty prep as part of the experience. Wedding trials are the dress rehearsals that help you feel completely at ease when the big day arrives. Whether you are deciding between an up-do or loose curls, a glossy lip or matte finish, these trials help fine-tune every detail. It is also the perfect opportunity to see how your look works with your accessories, neckline and even your bouquet.
Feeling confident is the ultimate goal. Your wedding day is not the time to reinvent yourself, but to highlight everything you already love. When you feel polished, glowing and authentically you, that confidence shines through every smile, every photo and every memory. After all, the best beauty trend is the one that makes you feel incredible. ♥

Colour play
This year is all about brave combinations. Expect vibrant clashing tones – fiery orange with blush pink, or jewel-like emerald and sapphire shades paired together. Couples across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are embracing colour to reflect joy and energy.
Sustainable choices
Eco-friendly weddings are thriving. Local florists like Paper & Petals, Kim Dalglish Floral Design and Artemisia Floral Art are seeing more requests for locally grown blooms, dried flowers and even potted plants that can be re-homed after the big day.
Texture rich
Think untamed arrangements with soft roses and peonies sitting alongside wild grasses, foraged greenery and branches. The mix of textures makes bouquets feel fresh, natural and totally unique.
www.samanthaclyne.com
Showstoppers
Bouquets are still a highlight but couples are going bigger with dramatic arches, floral chandeliers and aisle meadows that transform spaces into living gardens. Local favourites like WDB Flowers & Events are masters at creating impact with statement installations.
Personal touches
From a grandmother’s favourite rose to blooms that echo your first date bouquet, couples are weaving personal stories into their flowers. And thanks to preservation specialists such as ResinIt who encase flowers in high-quality resin to create elegant, timeless jewellery and display pieces, those memories can be captured forever.
So whether you’re dreaming of romantic roses, wild meadow vibes or sustainable chic, 2026 is set to be a year where flowers truly steal the show.
Beyond the bouquet
One of the biggest floral trends for 2026 is movement with bouquets that feel soft, organic and flowing. Cascading arrangements are making a gentle return, with trailing ribbons, airy foliage and layered textures that dance beautifully in the light. Buttonholes and corsages are being reimagined with herbs, berries and dried accents that add individuality and scent. www.paper-petals.co.uk
Double-duty designs
Savvy couples are repurposing ceremony flowers for the reception, ensuring every bloom earns its place. An arch becomes a photo backdrop, while aisle meadows are transformed into table centrepieces. It is sustainable, budget-friendly and keeps a sense of continuity throughout the celebration.
Whether your vision leans towards classic whites, joyful colour bursts or minimalist greenery, the florals of 2026 promise to be expressive, creative and full of heart, a celebration in bloom from first look to final dance. ♥

JewelleryThe Sparkle Edit
From timeless heirlooms to bold new looks, wedding jewellery is having its moment and here in the Northeast, couples are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding the perfect finishing touch.
www.samanthaclyne.com
www.thehoggs.co.uk
www.samanthaclyne.com
When you picture your wedding outfit, what’s the detail that really makes it yours? For many couples, it’s the jewellery. More than a sparkle or shine, these pieces tell your story – they symbolise love, family, personality and style. From the rings you’ll wear forever to the earrings that give your look that finishing touch, jewellery has the power to transform your day and last a lifetime.
And right now, jewellery is enjoying its own wave of creativity. Couples are blending the old with the new, making bold choices, and working with local jewellers to create something completely unique. Here’s what’s trending in the Northeast, and where to find it.
Timeless treasures
Some styles never go out of fashion. Diamond solitaires, delicate pendants and pearl earrings are all classics for a reason – they add elegance without overpowering the outfit. Pearls in particular are making a comeback, whether in vintage strands or contemporary drop earrings, and they pair beautifully with silk or lace gowns.
Gold and platinum remain favourites for wedding bands, offering durability and understated luxury. Many couples are choosing designs that can be passed down through generations, creating future heirlooms that will always hold meaning.

Sentimental touches
Jewellery is becoming more personal than ever. In Aberdeenshire, we’re seeing brides and grooms wear family heirlooms alongside their new pieces – a grandmother’s brooch, a father’s signet ring, or a vintage locket holding a secret photograph. Resetting old stones into modern designs is a growing trend too, breathing new life into jewellery while keeping the sentiment intact. It’s the perfect way to tick off “something old” with style.
Colour confidence
If you love to stand out, bold gemstones are where it’s at. Emeralds, sapphires and rubies are turning heads in 2025 and beyond, each bringing their own symbolism – emerald for growth, sapphire for loyalty, ruby for passion. We’re also seeing a rise in birthstones being incorporated into wedding jewellery, sometimes matching the bride and groom’s birthdays, other times those of children or parents, making each piece even more meaningful.
Mix it up
Gone are the days of sticking to just one metal. Modern couples are embracing twotone and even three-tone jewellery, from layered necklaces in gold and silver to stackable rings that combine platinum and rose gold. It’s a playful way to add texture and interest, and the perfect solution if you and your partner prefer different metals for your bands.
Statement sparkle
Minimalism is still popular, but on the flip side, bold statement jewellery is having a big moment. Oversized chandelier earrings, chunky cuffs and intricate headpieces are all about bringing the drama. They work particularly well with sleek gowns and tailored suits, allowing the jewellery to do the talking. Think of it as your opportunity to add that unforgettable wow factor.
Local love
The best part? You don’t have to travel far to find the perfect pieces – our local jewellers are some of the best in the business.
Jamieson & Carry on Union Street in Aberdeen have been helping couples celebrate life’s biggest moments for over 290 years. Their newly refurbished showroom is a must-visit on your wedding planning journey. From handcrafted gold and platinum wedding bands to diamond-set treasures, their collection is timeless, elegant and always full of sparkle.
Lava Jewellery Design in Peterculter are specialists in bespoke designs. Couples can bring in ideas, stories or even heirloom stones, and the team will craft them into completely unique jewellery. It’s ideal for anyone looking to wear something one-of-a-kind on their big day – whether that’s a custom engagement ring, tailored wedding bands or accessories that echo your personal style.
Sinclairs Jewellers in Inverurie are known for their mix of classic and contemporary pieces. Their showroom is packed with inspiration, from traditional wedding bands to eyecatching modern designs. With expert staff to guide you, it’s the perfect place to try on different styles until you find your “yes” piece.

couples across the shire. Whether you’re shopping for engagement rings, wedding bands or bridal party gifts, their friendly approach and wide selection make it easy to find jewellery that feels just right.
The final touch
Ultimately, wedding jewellery isn’t just about following trends. It’s about finding the pieces that reflect you, your love story and your style. Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of pearls, the boldness of coloured gemstones, or the personal touch of a bespoke design, the right jewellery will complete your look and give you memories to treasure long after the big day.
So, shop local, explore your options and enjoy the process. Because when it comes to sparkle, the Northeast really does shine.

Castle A
to Remember
WhenJessica Murray met William Stewart on a holiday to Ayia Napa back in 2017, neither imagined it would one day lead to a fairy-tale castle wedding in Aberdeenshire. Fast forward to May 2025 and the pair tied the knot at the exclusive Cluny Castle, filling the day with laughter, happy tears and plenty of saxophone-fuelled dancing...
Introduced on holiday by a friend, Jess and Will hit it off straight away - even if the boys’ tale about a pal in hospital with a brain bleed sounded far-fetched at the time (it was true, and that very friend went on to be best man).
In August 2023, Will whisked Jess off to Lisbon as a belated birthday treat. At the romantic Sintra Castle, he got down on one knee with a beautiful Finnies the Jeweller ring he’d secretly chosen himself, with help from a friend at the store.
Jess’s hen in Madrid was one to remember: bottomless brunches, dancing on tables and a silent disco through the streets. The weekend started with giggles at airport security when a vibrating suitcase (thanks to a runaway electric toothbrush!) caused much amusement.
The boys opted for Berlin - a weekend of shooting ranges and go-karting that almost didn’t end, thanks to Germany’s only weekend of airport strikes. The scenic route home via Amsterdam made it a stag trip no one will forget.
Being a wedding coordinator gave Jess a head start. “I booked Cluny Castle in September 2023 and had my suppliers sorted straight away,” she says. “I knew they’d book up fast.”
Cluny Castle was chosen before the proposal was even official. “My mum and I were chatting about dream venues a couple of weeks before Will proposed, and Cluny just rolled off my tongue. None of our guests had been there before, which made it feel really special.”
The theme was a mix of Bridgerton drama and timeless elegance. Wooden tables, candles and neutral runners created a base for bold pops of orange and peach florals. DIY was kept to a minimum. “I’ve seen the stress it can bring, so we left it to the pros!”
The couple’s wedding bands also came from Finnies. Jess chose a diamond band, while Will opted for a bespoke ring featuring three diamonds to mark their wedding date - 3 May.
At Ivory Grace, Jess thought she’d find a satin ballgown. Instead, she fell headover-heels for the very first dress she tried: an off-the-shoulder crepe ballgown with floral detail. “On the hanger, I wasn’t keen at all. But once I put it on, everyone cried. I tried another eight dresses but came back to that one.”
She styled it with simple jewellery, a watch and orange heels to tie in with the décor. The only alteration was length — first extended, then shortened!
Her four bridesmaids - sister Laura, friends Shauni and Lexi, and niece Amelia - wore a mix of green and orange gowns, chosen themselves from Ivory Grace. Will and his groomsmen wore grey Stewart tartan kilts, with Will distinguished by a plaid. The little bridal party members included a page boy in a matching kilt and flower girl Isla, who picked her own dress from Edinburgh.
The night before, family and friends gathered at Cluny for a relaxed buffetand a sausage was buried in the grounds in hopes of keeping the rain away. Miraculously, it worked!
Wedding morning was calm, with coffee, champagne and gifts. Jess had written letters to her bridesmaids, while they surprised her with a ‘letters to the bride’ book - cue floods of tears.
The humanist ceremony included handfasting and a personal reading from a friend. Jess walked down the aisle with her dad, then halfway swapped to her stepdad so both had their own moment. “It was so important to me,” she says. Will, not usually the emotional type, cried throughout - a moment that went viral on TikTok thanks to Conor Ross.
Guests enjoyed Nyetimber, beers, canapés and Forest Farm ice cream, with a string quartet playing modern songs that kept everyone guessing.
Dinner was followed by emotional speeches from both dads, Will and the best man. For their first dance, Jess and Will chose Die with a Smile by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, a nod to Will’s move from England to Scotland for love.
Then came the party. Saxophonist Connor led guests from the meal into the marquee before nine-piece band Funk Nation filled the floor. An Ibiza-style sax set during the band’s break ensured the dance floor never emptied (so much so that some guests missed the buffet!).
“Marrying my best friend was the highlight - and the Ibiza power hour on the dance floor,” says Jess.
Her advice? “Relax and let your suppliers take over on the day. They’re the experts and they all want you to have the best day too.”
The newlyweds enjoyed a minimoon at Gleneagles before jetting off on a February honeymoon to Malaysia, with plans to explore Kuala Lumpur, relax in Penang and tour Borneo to meet the orangutans.

When it comes to weddings in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, hotels tick a lot of wedding boxes. They’re convenient, versatile and full of extras that make planning easier. For couples looking ahead to 2026, hotels are evolving too - blending traditional hospitality with on-trend touches that modern to-be-weds love. From flexible packages and stylish ballrooms to spa breaks and foodie flair, here’s why hotels are the perfect backdrop for a wedding celebration to remember.
www.lauraannephotography.net
www.danirosephotography.com
Effortless ease
Hotels remain the go-to choice for couples who want a stress-free day. The big pull? Everything can happen in one place Ceremony, reception, evening dancing and guest accommodationno need to shuffle between different venues or make complicated transport arrangement. For bridal parties, that also means spacious suites for getting ready in style, while guests benefit from on-site accommodation.
Looking to 2026, couples are prioritising comfort alongside convenience. Many hotels now offer early check-ins for wedding parties, extended bar licences for late-night fun and flexible dining spaces that can shift seamlessly from vows to dance floor.
A big advantage of hotel weddings is the choice of packages. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering of 30 or a grand celebration with 300, hotels offer tiered options to suit different budgets. Think three-course wedding breakfasts, dedicated coordinators and sparkling drinks receptions built in.
But 2026 couples are demanding more than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. The latest trend is for bespoke packages where you can swap a hog roast for a grazing table, replace a DJ with live acoustic music, or even trade Champagne toasts for signature cocktails.
Many hotels encourage personalisation, letting couples express themselves through customised menus, décor and entertainment..

www.samanthaclyne.com
Style spectrum
Hotels in the Northeast are wonderfully diverse. Traditional venues offer glittering chandeliers, sweeping staircases and heritage-rich interiors, while contemporary city spots boast sleek lounges, rooftop terraces and minimalist backdrops. Couples in 2026 are blending the two, using classic architecture as a foundation and layering it with bold décor - neon signage and vibrant floral installations.
Sustainability is also shaping styling decisions. Hotels are introducing in-house décor hire to cut waste, reusable linens and even digital guest books. Couples are increasingly conscious of eco-choices, and hotels are stepping up to provide stylish, greener options without losing the luxe feel.
www.jenniferriddell.co.uk
Foodie focus
Ask any guest what they remember from a wedding and food is usually top of the list. Hotels are upping their culinary game, offering everything from lavish plated dining to more relaxed shared platters. Expect to see plenty of local touches on menus in 2026, with Scottish beef, North Sea seafood and Aberdeenshire produce taking pride of place.
Another emerging trend is interactive catering. Couples are keen on late-night food trucks parked outside hotel entrances, DIY dessert bars and whisky-tasting corners that double as entertainment. Hotel kitchens are flexible enough to embrace these ideas, giving couples the best of both worlds: professional catering with a playful edge.

Guest comfort
For guests, hotels mean no worries about taxis, long drives or booking accommodation miles away. Everyone can stay on site, roll into bed after dancing, and meet again at breakfast the next morning. Many hotels also offer spa facilities - ideal for bridal parties wanting pre-wedding pampering or couples who’d like a relaxed day-after wind-down with family.
2026 is set to see a rise in wellness-inspired weddings. Think yoga on the lawn before the ceremony, meditation sessions for bridal nerves and post-party spa mornings. Hotels are perfectly positioned to deliver these extras, making the wedding feel more like a full weekend retreat.
www.windsweptstories.com
Tech & trends
Hotels are embracing technology to make weddings smoother. Expect high-quality sound systems, LED lighting that can transform a room at the touch of a button, and screens for personalised slideshows or video messages from loved ones abroad. Hybrid weddings - where distant family join in virtually - can be easier to host in hotels.
Couples are also tapping into social-mediafriendly features, like photobooths in stylish hotel corners, or Instagram-ready staircases dressed with florals. For 2026, hotels are leaning into the ‘experience economy’making sure the venue not only hosts your day but gives you content worth sharing. www.byrhea.co.uk

Seasonal sparkle
One of the best things about hotels is their year-round appeal. In summer, landscaped gardens and terraces create dreamy backdrops for outdoor ceremonies and photos. In winter, roaring fires, twinkling lights and cosy lounges set the tone for intimate celebrations.
Hotels are also expanding their seasonal offers. Many now provide discounted winter packages, mid-week deals, and themed touches for festive weddings. Picture saying ‘I do’ beside a Christmas tree or enjoying mulled wine on arrival. In 2026, couples are increasingly choosing off-peak dates, making hotels’ flexible packages even more attractive.

Budget balance
With weddings being one of the biggest investments a couple will make, hotels offer peace of mind when it comes to budgeting. All-inclusive packages make it easier to track costs, and many hotels work with couples to spread payments or customise elements. Seasonal offers, weekday rates and bundled guest accommodation all help stretch budgets further without compromising on style. 2026 couples are also looking for value beyond the wedding day itself. Hotels that offer anniversary stays, loyalty perks or weekend-long experiences are becoming increasingly popular. It’s not just about one day, but about building memories you can revisit year after year.
Final toast
Hotels have always been a strong choice for weddings, but in 2026 they’re more relevant than ever. Offering all-in-one convenience, versatile spaces, stylish settings and modern extras, they make planning smoother and celebrations richer. Add in the comfort of on-site stays, the expertise of dedicated coordinators and the flair of local Scottish hospitality, and it’s easy to see why hotels across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire continue to be wedding favourites.
So, if you’re dreaming of a big day that feels seamless yet special, with every detail taken care of, a hotel wedding might just be the ultimate way to say “I do”.

Choosing where to say “I do” is one of the most exciting (and important) parts of your planning journey. Luckily, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are spoilt for choice – from glittering ballrooms and historic castles to boutique hideaways and elegant country estates. For 2026, couples are looking for venues that go beyond the backdrop, turning weddings into full, immersive experiences.

Setting the scene
Your venue is the foundation from which every detail flows. In 2026, couples are searching for beauty, convenience and personality all wrapped up in one. Exclusive-use properties remain high on the wish list, offering the luxury of privacy and the ease of keeping everything – from ceremony to ceilidh – under one roof.
Whether your dream special day is a hillside elopement in the wild Scottish landscape, a micro wedding in a beautiful heritage garden, or a grand celebration at a castle, by choosing our venues you’re also supporting our vital conservation work across the country.
Make your wedding a truly unique experience, and help our charity to protect these treasured places for generations to come.
“Weddings are no longer a day – they’re a full experience.”
Country charm
Country estates continue to top the list for couples who love the blend of heritage and modern comfort. Think sweeping drives, landscaped gardens and the soft glow of candlelight against stone walls. These timeless spaces offer a sense of escape from the everyday while allowing plenty of room for creativity – from floral arches and live string quartets to intimate outdoor ceremonies framed by nature.
City chic
Aberdeen’s grand buildings and reimagined spaces offer the perfect setting for a wedding that feels both modern and majestic. For couples who love an urban edge, the city delivers it all – architectural drama, elegant ballrooms and the convenience of being close to home. Whether you’re celebrating beneath chandeliers or toasting on a rooftop terrace, city weddings are proving that glamour and practicality can go hand in hand.

Castle magic
Fairytales never go out of style – especially in Aberdeenshire, home to more castles per acre than anywhere else in the UK. From towering turrets and ivy-clad archways to sweeping staircases and centuries-old banqueting halls, castles and stately homes across the Northeast are rewriting the rulebook for romance.
In 2026, these venues are evolving to meet modern expectations without losing their timeless appeal. Couples are embracing modern-meets-historic styling – think chandeliers with minimalist florals, candlelight flickering through corridors, and pastel palettes against heritage backdrops. It’s about balancing drama with intimacy and tradition with personality.
Weekend weddings are becoming the new normal, turning one-day celebrations into full experiences. Picture welcome drinks by the fire on Friday, the ceremony and feast on Saturday, and a relaxed brunch on Sunday as the last dance echoes through the halls. With on-site accommodation – from luxury suites and cottages to converted stables – guests can feel like royalty for the weekend.
Many of Aberdeenshire’s estates champion sustainability, using locally sourced menus, seasonal florals and energy-efficient upgrades to protect their heritage. Others are opening new ceremony options, such as secret gardens, walled courtyards or candlelit chapels, offering endless ways to personalise your day. www.byrhea.co.uk

Give it up for the guests
Accommodation is no longer just a practical extra – it’s part of the celebration. Wedding weekends remain popular, giving guests the chance to relax, reconnect and celebrate over several days. From converted stables and country cottages to luxury suites within the main house, these venues make it easy to turn your wedding into an unforgettable mini-break.

TANYA & BLAIR
Our Schivas Wedding
Blair and I were engaged on 2nd January 2021. Right in the throws of the latest lockdown at that time. I immediately started looking for our perfect wedding venue. Looking online, I came across Schivas Steading. A brand new wedding venue that was still under construction.
Although, it was essentially a building site, with scaffolding and the floors unfinished. It was so easy to envisage it complete. We loved it, and between the modern Steading and the older Schivas House, the stunning gardens and surroundings, the whole estate was the perfect mix of new and old, modern and traditional.
We planned to get married in the walled garden at Schivas House, have our drinks reception then head up to the Steading for dinner and dancing. The best of the full estate. However, the weather on 6th May 2023 had other ideas. Being a Scottish wedding, we accepted that our plans had to change. Our celebrations would be at the Steading.
Tracy and Edward were on hand to deliver the wedding that the weather was going to allow us. Contingency planning at its best! The morning of the wedding was so fun as we got ready at Newton House, across the courtyard from the Steading. Blair and his groomsmen stayed at West Lodge on the estate the evening before, and judging by the photos, they were also having a great time ahead of the wedding.
Now we were all suitably glammed and I was in my wedding dress…the most surreal moment, after two years of planning, the many dress alterations appointments, the time had finally come. It was happening! Wow!! Walking down to aisle to meet Blair was incredible, I really tried my best to be in the moment, take it all in and enjoy it. It was such a special moment with my dad, a moment just for us as we headed down to
Blair. The video footage shows just how proud my dad was and how delighted he was to be ‘giving me away’ to Blair.
Our ceremony was gorgeous and so personal to us. Jac Ruddy married us and Blair’s daughter, Rachael, gave a lovely and funny speech about how love is like owning a dog. We were now married, and it was time to party. Blair and I with our bridal party were whisked away for our photographs. It’s such a conflicting time we felt. After the wedding is over, the photos and footage is all you have left from the day and I adore looking back on them. However, in the moment, you just want to have fun with your friends and family. It is worth it though because the photos and footage are stunning.
My favourite part of the day was during the speeches and the meal. Mostly because we could just sit back, enjoy it and take everything in! My dad, husband, best man and chief bridesmaid, Lynsey, all delivered speeches. Lynsey gave a speech because why should it just be men that give speeches at weddings, right?! After the meal, it was time to party the night away! It was the most fun atmosphere, our band played the perfect mix of wedding songs and a DJ set for the last hour. We also surprised our guests with an Ibiza style saxophone set. Overall, for me as a bride, the day passed in a flash. I really wish I could have slowed down time.
We had a dream team of suppliers but our day really ran like clockwork because Tracy and her team at Schivas were always 5 steps ahead. She is fantastic and is such a natural in her role at Schivas. I have no doubt that Schivas, still a relatively new venue, will continue to grow and get better and better with every wedding season. I will always be a Schivas ambassador, with nothing but good thoughts and feedback should anyone dare to ask…as I will go on and on.

Your Wedding at Union Kirk
LOCATED IN THE CENTRE OF ABERDEEN, UNION KIRK SITS RESPLENDENT WITHIN THE SPARKLING GRANITE OF UNION STREET.
Designed by James Matthew and built in 1869, this grade B listed building has been carefully and sympathetically converted whilst retaining many of the traditional features that you would expect to find in your “Kirk”. Including the stunning stained-glass windows, vaulted ceiling, and intricate cornicing.
Union Kirk has the capacity to hold up to 220 guests depending on your requirements.
If a city wedding is calling your name, Union Kirk offers a show-stopping choice in the heart of Aberdeen. This lovingly restored granite church, complete with stained glass and vaulted ceilings, has become a go-to for couples who want grandeur but with all the conveniences of a central location. For those craving a coastal backdrop, The Palace Hotel and Buchan Braes in Peterhead provide romance by the sea – “something blue” guaranteed.
And of course, Aberdeenshire’s castles remain as magical as ever. Fasque Castle, Raemoir House, and the National Trust for Scotland’s historic gems like Drum Castle and Fyvie Castle offer fairytale settings that never go out of style. Couples are increasingly drawn to the sense of history, fairytale architecture and air of exclusivity these properties provide.

Marquees
Flexibility is the buzzword for 2026, and marquee weddings are right at the centre of that trend. Marquees allow you to design a completely bespoke space, whether pitched on a private estate, a family farm or in the gardens of your chosen venue. Locally, Esslemont Marquees are known for their stylish structures and professional service, giving couples the blank canvas they need to let their creativity run wild.
Imagine dining under dining under twinkling fairy lights, relaxing in a rustic lounge space or dancing on a custom-built floor that flows into the outdoors. Marquees let you bring the festival vibes, the boho chic or full luxury – whatever suits your style. And because sustainability is now at the heart of so many weddings, couples are loving eco-friendly options such as energy-efficient lighting, reusable décor and locally sourced flowers to dress their spaces.

“Flexibility,
exclusivity and unforgettable experiences –that’s the venue formula for 2026.”
For those planning marquee celebrations, it’s worth remembering they’re not just tents anymore – they’re versatile, stylish event spaces that can rival the most luxurious hotel ballroom. Whether you want elegance, rustic charm or quirky details, a marquee gives you the freedom to create it.
Accommodation
The rise of the “wedding weekend” means that accommodation is no longer just a practical add-on – it’s part of the whole experience. Guests are increasingly expecting to stay on-site or nearby, making it easier to relax, celebrate and keep the party atmosphere going.
Hotels such as Norwood Hall, Maryculter House and Meldrum House make this seamless, offering not just stunning ceremony and reception spaces but also comfortable rooms, bridal suites and even luxury lodges for extended stays. Marcliffe Hotel & Spa continues to be the go-to for couples wanting a touch of five-star indulgence, while Sandman Signature Hotel offers stylish city-centre convenience paired with a spa and modern suites.
For boutique charm, the Palm Court Hotel provides chic interiors and dog-friendly rooms, perfect for couples who want an intimate, modern feel with their four-legged friends included. Meanwhile, countryside favourites like Glen Clova Estate combine rustic scenery with luxury lodges, sleeping up to 88 guests – ideal for couples who want to turn their big day into a weekend escape with friends and family.
And if you’d rather go offbeat? Glamping and eco-lodges are having a real moment. Think guests waking up in yurts or luxury pods, coffee in hand as they take in the Aberdeenshire hills. It’s a unique way to offer your loved ones not just a night’s stay but a memory they’ll never forget.

Your ceremony is the heart of your wedding day - the moment it all becomes official. From vows to music, and those little personal touches in between, 2026 is all about celebrating individuality while embracing timeless traditions.
Personal vows
Couples are increasingly writing their own promises. Whether heartfelt, humorous, or sprinkled with Doric dialect, personalised vows bring authenticity. Many are choosing to have these vows printed as keepsakes so they can be treasured long after the big day.
Celebrant choices
From traditional religious services to modern humanist ceremonies, couples in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are spoiled for choice. Humanist and civil ceremonies continue to rise in popularity, offering the freedom to weave in readings, rituals and unique moments that reflect your journey together.
Scottish rituals
Quaich ceremonies remain firm favourites, symbolising unity and togetherness. For 2026, couples are giving this tradition a modern twist - filling the cup with local gins, craft ales or even bespoke cocktails for a fun, personal nod to their story.
Cultural fusion
Blending traditions is another big trend. More couples are choosing to celebrate both sides of their heritage, whether that’s with outfit changes, live music, or symbolic rituals that showcase their families’ backgrounds. It’s a creative way to honour your roots while sharing something special with your guests.
Music moments
A piper’s entrance will always raise goosebumps, but couples are also booking
harpists, acoustic guitarists and string quartets for a fresh take on ceremony music. Choosing a soundtrack that flows from your aisle walk to your joyful exit is one of the simplest ways to set the mood.
Décor details:
Ceremony styling is set to go bold in 2026. Think floral arches, statement backdrops and creative lighting to transform your setting. Sustainability is key too, with many couples repurposing flowers and décor elements later in the day to minimise waste and keep costs down.
Final tip
Rehearse if you can. Even a short run-through will calm nerves and make sure everyone knows their cue. On the day itself, remember to pause, take a breath, and really look at each other. After all, this is the moment your forever begins. ♥
TransportFrom Aisle to Miles
Arrive in style, leave with memories – your wedding transport is so much more than getting from A to B. It’s your first chance to make a statement and your last moment to wave goodbye in true newlywed fashion.

Couples across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are making transport part of their story for 2026. Whether it’s elegant, fun or eco-friendly, your choice of wheels (or even hooves!) sets the tone for the day.
Classic romance
Timeless options like vintage Rolls-Royces, Daimlers or horse-drawn carriages continue to reign supreme. Nothing says fairytale quite like pulling up to your venue in a gleaming classic, complete with a chauffeur in smart attire.
Modern luxury
Sleek limousines, stylish sports cars and even luxury 4x4s are proving popular for couples who want that wow factor with a modern edge. Tesla and hybrid models are increasingly being booked too, ticking both the glamour and sustainability boxes.
Squad goals
Why not extend the experience to your bridal party and guests? Hiring a retro bus, colourful camper van or even a quirky tuk-tuk can bring the fun while keeping everyone together. Plus, it makes for fantastic group photos that’ll look epic in your album.
Local flair
In true Northeast fashion, some couples are choosing transport that nods to their heritage – from vintage tractors decked in flowers to coaches that keep the ceilidh crowd moving between venues. It’s practical, personal and guaranteed to raise a smile.
Whatever you choose, remember that transport is more than a detail; it’s the start of your journey as a married couple. So go bold, stay true to your style, and roll up in a way that’ll make your guests say, “Now that’s an entrance!”. ♥

Food and Drink
Love on the Menu
The way to a guest’s heart? Through their stomach, of course. As 2026 weddings roll around, food and drink are stepping into the spotlight, not just to feed your guests, but to tell your story. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all menus. Across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, couples are embracing bold flavour, local sourcing and personal flair. Think family-style dining, late-night bites and cocktails that match your colour palette...
www.jonathanaddie.com
www.andymophotography.com
Local and seasonal
Couples are championing the best of the Northeast’s larder. Expect menus built around seasonal produce, buttery shortbread favours, smoked salmon canapés, local gin cocktails and hearty beef from nearby farms. Sustainable dining isn’t just a buzzword; it’s now a badge of honour.
Interactive dining
From build-your-own grazing tables to live chef stations, guests love to get involved. Picture a carving station with a tartan twist, or a doughnut wall that doubles as dessert and décor. These experiences keep guests mingling and the atmosphere lively all night long.
At Hudsons, we believe the secret to unforgettable wedding catering is meaning. Every couple has a story, and we love weaving it into the menu – from dishes that nod to your first date to flavours inspired by your heritage. It’s all about food that feels personal.
The bar is where the fun really begins. 2026 is the year of personalised drinks, signature cocktails inspired by the couple’s story, mocktail menus for non-drinkers and locally distilled gins taking centre stage. Prosecco towers are making way for creative options like frozen spritz bars or espresso martini shots served with dessert.
Global inspiration
World flavours are finding their way to local plates, reflecting how many couples want their heritage or travel adventures woven into the meal. Think sharing platters of Mediterranean mezze, sushi starters or Indian street food stations that nod to family roots.
Late-night treats
After hours, it’s all about comfort. Mini fish and chips, wood-fired pizzas or sweet crêpe stands are making appearances once the dancing starts. Because no one ever forgets a wedding that ends with a midnight snack.
Food and drink in 2026 aren’t just part of the day, they’re part of the experience. Whatever your tastes, the Northeast’s talented caterers, bartenders and bakers are serving up plenty of inspiration to make every bite and sip unforgettable.

CakesSweet Statement
Wedding cakes have always been the showpiece of the reception, but 2026 is shaping up to be the year of bold statements and delicious surprises.
Design details
Couples across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are moving away from the traditional threetier white cake and embracing creations that reflect their personalities. Think sculptural designs with textured finishes, like ruffles, pleats and brushed buttercream, that offer an unexpected visual treat
Flavour
focus
Instead of classic vanilla or fruit, brides and grooms are opting for indulgent combinations - pistachio and rose, espresso and caramel, or even locally inspired options such as whiskyinfused chocolate.
Local touch
With many couples wanting to support small businesses, local bakers are putting a spotlight on seasonal produce, giving each slice a connection to the region.
Beyond cake
Another growing trend is the “cake and beyond” concept. Dessert tables are gaining popularity, featuring miniature versions of the main cake alongside doughnuts, tarts and macarons. It’s all about creating an interactive experience for guests, where everyone can find a sweet treat they love.
Showstopper moment
Whatever your style - elegant and understated or bright and daring - 2026 wedding cakes are set to be unforgettable, both to look at and to eat. ♥

Event AccessoriesFinishing Touches
It’s the little things that make the biggest impression. Event accessories bring your theme to life, spark conversation and leave guests smiling long after the last dance.
Colour pop
Couples in 2026 are turning up the colour. Rich emeralds, deep blues and mustard golds are replacing neutral tones, with metallic accents adding instant glamour. Think jeweltoned candles, coloured glassware and bold linens that lift any venue.
Sweet surprises
Interactive extras continue to be a hit. From ice-cream trikes and doughnut walls to latenight snack bars, couples are giving guests something fun (and Instagram-worthy).
Personal touches like cocktails named after pets or favourite places add a playful twist.
Flower power
Florals are bigger and bolder. Oversized arches, meadow aisles and floral backdrops turn spaces into dreamlike settings. Mixing textures, colours and seasonal blooms creates wow moments guests won’t forget.
Personal touches
Details matter. Hand-painted signage, illustrated menus and personalised keepsakes add warmth and individuality. Couples are choosing accessories that tell their story – whether that’s a custom neon sign or Polaroid guestbook.
Minimalist magic
Less is still more. Clean lines, soft lighting and sculptural candles create calm, contemporary spaces. A few well-chosen pieces can make a stronger impact than a crowded table.
Whatever your style, event accessories are what turn a celebration into something truly memorable. In the Northeast, 2026 weddings are all about thoughtful touches, meaningful details and plenty of personality. ♥
From ceilidhs to sax sets, wedding entertainment in 2026 is all about creating moments your guests won’t stop talking about. Think less predictable playlists, more wow-factor touches and a whole lot of fun.
www.byrhea.co.uk
Live and loud
THISTLE PIPING
Live music is still the heartbeat of a great wedding party, but couples are pushing it further in 2026. Expect to see hybrid line-ups where a traditional ceilidh band morphs into a high-energy DJ set, or a pianist blending classics with chart remixes. Here in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, talented local performers are bringing both heritage and modern vibes so you can have your Loch Lomond moment and a club-style finale.
The DJ edit
A good DJ is the glue that holds a wedding party together. In 2026, playlists are more collaborative, with couples asking guests for song requests or creating vibe-led set lists (think ‘festival anthems’ or ‘guilty pleasures’). Aberdeen DJs are ahead of the curve, mixing live percussion or saxophone for that Ibiza-meets-Deeside energy. The result? Dancefloors that stay full until lights come on
The sound of Scotland
Few things give you goosebumps quite like the skirl of the pipes. Whether it’s a dramatic entrance, a surprise performance during the evening, or leading everyone onto the floor for Loch Lomond, pipers remain one of the most powerful ways to weave Scottish heritage into your day. With award-winning pipers across the Northeast, couples are using this tradition to create emotional, unforgettable moments.
Immersive experiences
Guests don’t just want to watch anymore - they want to join in. Enter interactive entertainment. Caricature artists, photo scavenger hunts and even DIY karaoke corners are rising in popularity. Imagine your pals belting out anthems in between speeches or racing to capture the best dancefloor selfies. These touches keep the energy buzzing long after the cake’s been cut.
Let the games begin
Wedding games are back in style — but this time with flair. Think garden croquet and giant Jenga during the drinks reception, or quiz-style challenges hosted by the MC after dinner. Some couples are even creating personalised trivia about their relationship or playful ‘his and hers’ competitions. It’s a fun way to break the ice and keep guests laughing between dance sets.

Unexpected wow moments
Show-stopping acts are big news. Aerialists suspended from barn beams, saxophonists weaving through the dancefloor Ibiza-style, or a surprise piper appearing just when the party dips - these are the goosebump-inducing extras that define weddings in 2026. And don’t forget outdoor fireworks or a sparkler tunnel for that final, Instagram-worthy shot..
Tech takes over
We’re seeing a rise in digital twists, too. Think live-streamed guest messages recorded in retro phone booths, or on-the-spot video edits played back during the evening reception. With so many couples embracing content creation, your wedding highlights might just be trending before you’ve even left the dancefloor

Keeping it you
The real trend? Personality-led choices. Whether that’s a magician mingling during your drinks reception, a ceilidh band teaching your English cousins the steps, or a DJ spinning the songs you and your partner fell in love to, the best entertainment reflects you. Couples in the Northeast are leaning into the idea that their day should feel unmistakably theirs, swapping cookie-cutter playlists for sentimental favourites and choosing acts that match their story. Maybe that’s the piper who played at your parents’ wedding, a friend’s band taking the stage, or a surprise singalong you’ve secretly rehearsed. In 2026, authenticity is the ultimate crowd-pleaser, and nothing beats the joy of seeing your guests smiling, dancing and celebrating right alongside you. ♥
Love, laughter and a celebration with French flair at Mar Lodge Estate. Some modern love stories start with a swipe right, and Justine and James are proud to say theirs began on Hinge back in 2018. From that very first date, sparks flew – the kind that never really fade...
Fast forward five years, and the couple were enjoying their very first Christmas in their new flat. Justine was bustling about preparing for guests, apron on, in full hostess mode, when she spotted James on the floor. Her first thought was that he’d dropped something. In reality, he was waiting on one knee with a ring in hand, a record playing softly in the background, and a steaming mug of tea on the table. Sweet, intimate and beautifully ordinary - it was the kind of moment that felt absolutely “them”.
With 18 months until their chosen June date, Justine admits she wasted no time. “The day after the proposal, I was already making lists,” she laughs. But their planning wasn’t just about logistics - it was about priorities.
“We had three non-negotiables,” James adds. “Great food, a venue with character and the chance to dance until the early hours. Everything else we were happy to compromise on.”
Mar Lodge captured their hearts instantly. Nestled in the Cairngorms, it offered history, beauty, accommodation for half their guests, and the freedom to bring in caterers of their choice. Add the promise of a full weekend together with family and friends, and the decision was made.
They then set about carefully hand-picking suppliers who resonated with them personally. From Coo Hill Studio’s seasonal wildflowers to J Dyer Photography’s creative eye, every booking felt intentional. “So many of our suppliers were passionate, independent professionals - many of them women,” Justine notes. “It felt important to us to work with people who cared deeply about what they do.”
The Bride: Dress shopping meant 25+ gowns across a whirlwind weekend, but Justine found her dream look at Grace Loves Lace. The mermaid silhouette was a nod to modern elegance, while the bodice design echoed her mum’s original gown - a subtle tribute that felt deeply meaningful. She paired it with an embroidered veil, pearl jewellery from Lily & Roo and practical block heels. With alterations by Alterations Boutique Chelsea, the dress became a perfect fit for her petite frame.
The Groom: James knew a kilt was the way forward, but he also wanted something unique. Together with Kinloch Anderson, he designed a brand-new Lahaise tartan, inspired by Black Watch but adapted to honour his Belgian and English heritage while also honouring his Scottish roots. It was both traditional and completely personal.
The Squad: Justine had three bridesmaids, her closest friends, who chose dresses in different shades of green. Each wore a different cut, creating a harmonious but not-too-matchy look that complemented the natural Scottish setting.
The weekend began with a Friday night dinner for on-site guests, creating a relaxed, convivial atmosphere before the main event.
Saturday morning brought two very different starts: Justine, surrounded by her mum, sisters and bridesmaids, sipping champagne while having her hair and makeup done; and James, braving a freezing river dip with his groomsmen before raising a dram in the billiards room.
The ceremony took place in Mar Lodge’s grand foyer, with its sweeping staircase and rich wooden panelling. Justine’s entrance down the staircase with her dad was nothing short of cinematic. The Aberdeenshire registrar guided them through their vows, while speeches from siblings and close friends added both humour and emotion. A Celtic knot ritual tied together their Scottish setting with a personal touch.
Afterwards, guests enjoyed champagne, canapés and photos, before dinner was served in the stag ballroom. The couple chose to skip starters in favour of hearty mains: locally sourced venison and trout from Barbarella Beets. “We wanted to showcase Scottish produce,” says Justine.
Speeches followed, with both family and friends contributing. Each was heartfelt, funny and tear-inducing in equal measure. “We were running an hour behind after chatting to every table,” Justine admits, “but it was worth it - our guests really appreciated that personal time.”
As evening fell, the first dance to A Hidden Life’s theme music set the tone
for the party. Their DJ, proudly billed as “the anti-wedding wedding DJ”, had the dancefloor full from the first track to the last. “James has never danced like that before,” laughs Justine. “Everyone said it was the best party they’d been to.”
Looking back, the couple struggle to choose one highlight. “The ceremony, the speeches, the dancing - honestly, every part could have been the highlight,” says James.
We asked Justine and James what they’d tell other couples planning their own big day. "We’d say don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s the moments with your favourite people that matter most. Trust your suppliers; we chose local names we already loved and they made everything so easy. Take five minutes away from the crowd just the two of you – we slipped out onto the steps at Mar Lodge to watch the sun go down, and it’s a memory we’ll always treasure. And finally, make the day about you as a couple, those personal touches are what everyone remembers.'
After a minimoon on Loch Fyne - spa sessions, seafood feasts and peaceful walks - they’re now planning a New Zealand honeymoon for winter 2026/27.
As Justine sums up: “It truly felt like the best day of our lives, full of love, laughter and everything we hoped for.” ♥
Photos fade, tech evolves, but the way your story is captured will live on forever. As couples across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire plan for 2026, photography and film aren’t just about “getting a record of the day” anymore – they’re about creating a narrative, crafting an experience, telling a story and recording memories you’ll want to revisit for decades to come
Storytelling first
Traditional wedding albums have always been treasures, but the focus for 2026 is storytelling over staged shots. Couples are increasingly drawn to documentary-style coverage where every laugh, tear and dancefloor dip is captured as it naturally unfolds. Think less “everyone line up” and more “let’s capture the energy of Uncle Jim tearing it up to ABBA”.
I’m your extra wedding guest with a fancy camera, ready to join in the good times, the giggles and the adventures.
Videographers are leaning the same way, producing cinematic short films that feel more like Netflix trailers than old-school three-hour tapes. Expect clever editing, carefully chosen soundtracks and narrative arcs that make you feel like you’re reliving the day every time you press play.
Aerial magic
By now, most couples have seen drone footage in wedding films – sweeping views of castles, estates and Aberdeenshire’s breathtaking coastline. But in 2026, it’s no longer just about the wide shot. Photographers and videographers are experimenting with creative drone angles: capturing a confetti toss from above, or pulling back to reveal the River Dee glistening behind you as you steal a kiss.
Drones also mean those hidden Scottish gems - a clifftop at Stonehaven, a forest glade near Aboyne - can be showcased in ways traditional cameras simply couldn’t manage.
Editorial meets personal
Inspired by fashion magazines, editorialstyle portraits are having a big moment. Brides, grooms and entire wedding squads are channelling their inner models with bold, styled shoots that wouldn’t look out of place in Vogue.
But here’s the twist: couples aren’t staging them for vanity. They’re using them to celebrate their personalities. A bride rocking Doc Martens with her couture gown. A groom squad striding down Union Street like it’s a catwalk. Even pets are getting the editorial treatment - a collie in a tartan bow tie posed perfectly in front of Dunnottar Castle? Yes, please.

Short-form sharing
Let’s be real - not everything is about the album on your coffee table anymore. In 2026, couples want Instagram reels, TikTok edits and teaser trailers within days of their wedding. Many local film teams now offer a same-week “sneak peek” designed specifically for sharing online.
These edits are punchy, energetic and perfect for keeping the excitement alive while you wait for the full set. For family abroad (or pals who couldn’t make it), it’s a brilliant way to feel part of the celebration.
Black & white renaissance
There’s something timeless about black and white photography, and it’s staging a comeback for 2026. Expect to see entire minialbums in monochrome, capturing moments that feel moody and cinematic. Paired with modern compositions – atmospheric lighting, strong angles, candid movement – these images have all the nostalgia of your grandparents’ albums with a distinctly contemporary edge.
Couples behind the camera
Here in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, we’re lucky to have plenty of photography-film duos – sometimes married couples themselves –who shoot side-by-side. For 2026, this is only getting more popular.
The benefit? Two perspectives of the same moment. While one captures your vows up close, the other might be zooming in on your mum dabbing away tears. During speeches, one can film the laughter while the other sneaks candid portraits of your guests. It’s double the coverage, double the creativity.

Pre-wedding shoots
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m awkward in front of a camera,” you’re not alone. That’s why engagement shoots are becoming a mustbook for 2026. They’re relaxed, informal and give couples a chance to get comfortable with their chosen team before the big day.
Locations? Expect Aberdeenshire favourites – Balmedie Beach at golden hour, cobbled Old Aberdeen streets or the rolling hills of Deeside. The bonus? You get professional photos you can use for your wedding website, invites or even your “save the date” reel.
Hybrid packages
Photography and film used to be booked separately, but many local suppliers are now offering hybrid packages. These allow one professional (or a small team) to cover both elements without you needing to coordinate two suppliers.
It’s streamlined, budget-friendly and ideal if you love the idea of consistent editing styles across your photos and videos. With compact gear and new tech, it’s easier than ever for a single pro to deliver both.
Immersive experiences
Forget just recording – in 2026, couples want their guests to play a part in the capture. Think guest-led video booths, Polaroid guestbooks or even disposable film cameras left on tables (yes, the retro revival is real).
Some videographers are adding 360-degree footage, where you and your guests can relive the dance floor through VR headsets. It sounds futuristic, but it’s quickly becoming accessible and adds a layer of fun to your memories.

It was a night in Glasgow both almost skipped, a winter proposal with matching secret rings, and a six-month dash to a summer wedding. Robyn Reid and Ashton Skobel transformed Aberdeen's Marischal College and Union Kirk into a scene of vibrant colour and sustainable style.
Robyn and Ashton tied the knot on 21 June 2025, celebrating with a heartfelt ceremony at Marischal College before moving on to a lively reception at Union Kirk in Aberdeen.
Their love story began in Glasgow, when both almost skipped a night out but were persuaded by friends to join them at the Bell Jar pub. Fate clearly had other plans. Years later, Ashton proposed on the island of Bressay, where the couple were enjoying a winter escape. When it came to engagement rings, they surprised each other with strikingly similar designs. Ashton chose a pink sapphire with diamonds on either side, while Robyn had a ruby with the same detailing.
Neither wanted to wait long for their big day. They planned the entire celebration in under six months, with securing the venue as the top priority. Union Kirk, with its dramatic windows and supportive coordinator Leigh-Anne, ticked every box, especially with family travelling from America. The day was designed to showcase their personalities, with a ceilidh to entertain overseas guests, and a sustainable, colourful approach to décor. Pink and blue flowers, charity shop vases and repurposed bouquets kept things both vibrant and meaningful.
Dress shopping was an adventure. Ashton knew exactly what she wanted and found her dream ballgown at Eva Lendel, full of lace and tulle, fit for a fairytale. Robyn was less certain until a stylist at Wed2B suggested a corseted gown with strong tailoring that turned out to be perfect. Both added sentimental touches. Robyn wore heirloom jewellery gifted on the morning of the wedding and a dried flower hair comb, while Ashton chose a flower crown and pieces lent by her grandmother and mum. Alterations made each gown unique, with Robyn’s train reworked into off-the-shoulder sleeves and Ashton’s bustle added for dancing the night away.
Each bride had three bridesmaids, Robyn’s in blue and Ashton’s in pink, with the freedom to choose outfits that felt right for them. The celebrations began the day before with a family brunch, followed by a relaxed evening at the Sandman hotel. On the wedding morning, butterflies gave way to happy tears as the couple saw each other for the first time at Marischal College, before exchanging their own vows, with their mums proudly walking them down the aisle.
After photos around the city, guests gathered at Union Kirk for canapés before sitting down to chicken or gnocchi, followed by a sticky toffee pudding that proved so popular it had guests sneaking back for seconds. Their first dance to Silk Chiffon by Muna was the perfect lead-in to a ceilidh where Ashton’s American family threw themselves into Strip the Willow for the very first time.
Looking back, the couple say the highlight was simply how much fun they had. “We just laughed and danced all day. It was exactly what we wanted.” Their advice to others is simple: “Make the choices that make you happiest. At the end of the day, it’s about the two of you.”
They are now looking ahead to a Thailand honeymoon in 2026, though for now they are happily busy settling into married life with the newest member of the family, a mischievous little kitten. ♥
