Liver function test, or LFT, is a blood test that is used to evaluate the overall health of your liver. It helps your doctor diagnose liver diseases or disorders and monitor your liver function during treatment. LFT test measures several different components of liver function, including levels of enzymes, proteins, and other substances in the blood. It can provide vital information about the overall health of your liver, including how well it is functioning and whether there are any signs of damage or inflammation.
There are several reasons why your healthcare provider may order this test. For instance, if you have symptoms of liver disease such as jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, or fatigue, your provider may order these tests to help determine the cause of your symptoms. It may also be used to monitor the progression of liver disease or to assess the effectiveness of treatment. On the other hand, a RFT blood test is used to evaluate the health of the kidneys.
This test measures the level of various substances in the blood, such as creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and chloride. These values help doctors assess how well the kidneys are functioning and can indicate the presence of kidney disease or other medical conditions. RFT tests are often performed as part of routine health screenings, or to monitor the progression of kidney disease and the effectiveness of treatment.
