When it comes to new interior doors, One Day Doors and Closets of Delaware Valley uses a specialized process to transform homes with ease and efficiency. by Peter Proko

followed by a trip to the company’s Marlton showroom where a homeowner is able to choose from dozens of designs, finishes and hardware options. Clients can opt for a modern look, traditional shaker style, or maybe something more coastal or contemporary to suit their home’s aesthetic. “The goal is to make it feel like those doors always belonged there—only better,” says Cressman.

AOnce the particulars are worked out, each door is custom fit using precise digital measurements, so it’s perfectly milled for each opening. After the new doors are finished being built in the factory, the One Day Doors’ team installs them all in a single day. No mess. No weeks of disruption.
Just instant results that homeowners appreciate because they get a whole-home upgrade without the stress or chaos that normally comes with remodeling.
“Traditional contractors might take days or even weeks, working room by room, leaving behind drywall damage and dust, and setting up an impromptu paint shop in the garage. We’ve eliminated all that,” Cressman says. “The One Day Doors process is turnkey, it’s clean, and the results are beautiful and consistent.”

s interest in home improvement continues to rise and the demand increases, homeowners have filled their wish lists with plenty of wants and desires. And while large-scale projects like kitchen and bathroom remodels, finished basements or perhaps new windows can update the look and feel of one’s home, many are also finding similar satisfaction with the transformation that new interior doors can bring.
Jeremy Cressman understands this all too well. As the owner of One Day Doors and Closets of Delaware Valley, he’s seen countless clients marvel at just how much of a noticeable difference new doors can make and the appeal they can bring to one’s home.
“Most people don’t realize how big an impact new doors make on your entire home’s interior,” he affirms.
Many folks have turned to Cressman and his skilled team because of the unique and detailed process that One Day Doors and Closets provides, with beautiful new interior doors professionally installed in a single day.
“At One Day Doors and Closets of Delaware Valley, we sell and install interior transformations—not just replacing your door panels, but fully upgrading the look, feel and function of your doors throughout the home. The ‘One Day’ name isn’t a gimmick—it’s exactly what we do,” says Cressman.
The process starts with an in-home design consultation
That ease and efficiency are the hallmarks of the company, but some clients are still skeptical at first, believing there is no way a project like this could possibly be so painless. Cressman enjoys being able to dispel some of their misconceptions and deliver quality work that exceeds expectations.
“People are shocked that it can be this easy,” he says. “We hear things like, ‘I can’t believe this all happened in just a few hours,’ or ‘It feels like a brand-new home.’ They’re thrilled with how clean and seamless the process is. And often, they’ll say they wish they’d done it years ago.”
Seeing a client’s reaction during the installation and their overall satisfaction with their new doors is one of the more fulfilling parts of the job for Cressman.
“Doors are something people live with every day, so when we give them that upgrade, it changes how they experience their home. That’s incredibly rewarding,” he says.
With a talented team of experienced installers executing a highly refined process, One Day Doors and Closets of Delaware Valley has become a leader in the industry with a track record for installations that may be quick, but never sacrifice on quality and personalized service.
“What makes One Day Doors special isn’t just the speed, it’s the professionalism, the craftsmanship and the care behind it,” Cressman says. “We take something that used to be a hassle and make it an enjoyable experience. Homeowners get instant transformation and long-term value, and we get the satisfaction of delivering that every single day.”

An industry leader in South Jersey for almost 35 years, Gill’s Landscaping has worked hard to build a reputation as the region’s consummate full-service residential and commercial landscaping company, known for its stunning transformations of outdoor spaces.
Offering unique designs for outdoor kitchens, paver patios, driveways, walkways, water features and landscape lighting, it’s no wonder Gill’s has been voted Best Landscaping Company by both South Jersey Magazine and House & Home magazine from 2011 to 2025.
Among the company’s many standout qualities is that it does not subcontract work.
“From start to finish, from design to the completed project, our team is 100% all Gill’s,” owner Brian Gill proudly states.
With a customer-oriented design process, Gill’s consistently delivers desired results for its many clients. Using both 3D and traditional blueprints, homeowners can easily visualize how their project will look before the work begins.
“We have an experienced team of experts who come to your property and collaborate to combine ideas,” says Gill. “Our design software is adaptable to all budgets, so you know exactly what the project will cost at the outset.”

Landscaping is a dynamic undertaking, which a good landscaper knows—and the Gill’s team will help any client adjust accordingly where needed. They have the professional experience and customer-service drive to know that asking some important questions before a project begins can save a homeowner both time and money, like: Is your yard designed for longevity? Does your patio fit aesthetic of its surrounding landscape? Could your irrigation system be more efficient its water usage?

Uniqueness of design is another significant factor in all projects with the Gill’s name on them, with aesthetic experts suggesting ideas that complement each homeowner’s distinctive space and style.
“It’s also important that our customers are never left out of the process of their project,” Gill adds. “Collaboration with the homeowner is key.”
Another important aspect of any project is the materials used. Gill’s ensures that they use only the highest quality products, no matter what the job entails.
“We pride ourselves on educating clients about what’s out there and guide them on what would work best for their particular project so it will look spectacular for many years to come,” explains Gill. “We treat every home like it’s our own.”
Gill attributes much of the company’s success to hard work and determination, with an emphasis on commitment and dedication from its team.

“For any business to succeed, you need to surround yourself with good people. My staff is the backbone of the company, and customers always have good things to say about them,” he says. “I truly appreciate everything they bring to the business.”
Gill himself is personally involved with every project, checking on progress along the way and giving final approval at the end. As he’s quick to affirm, “We love what we do.”

From the initial contact to a project’s completion, homeowners and commercial clients will not find a more passionate, detail-oriented company that produces the most incredible results—exceeding the expectations of all.

significant changes in the industry,” McCool says, “other than the increased popularity of adding more bells and whistles to the pool.”

by Kristen Dowd
Swim-Mor Pools & Spas partner and general manager Mike McCool recognizes that there is a lot more that goes into a new pool than there used to be.
“The backyard has transformed over the last 10 years or so away from being just ‘your yard’ and into another room of your home with the same care and detail put into it,” McCool says. “Because of this the design of your pool has become more than just a pool but the focus of the outdoor living room. There is a lot of coordination with creating what a customer’s backyard haven is going to be.”
Fortunately, the family-owned South Jersey business is more than up to the challenge of bringing a customer’s backyard pool vision to life. In its 55 years of business, Swim-Mor Pools & Spas has helped to create thousands of backyard paradises throughout the region.
And what’s more, they make the process as easy as possible for their customers.
“We’re a start-to-finish gunite custom pool company—the design, the build and the service afterward,” McCool says. “We have our own crews that handle the work which helps us control quality and makes the process go smoother.”
There are six designers at Swim-Mor Pools & Spas who can help guide customers on a new pool design. The company’s countless photos and 3D drawings can provide inspiration, and the final design is what best suits the backyard, according to McCool.
“Size, setbacks, elevations. We’re here to help you work through that,” he says.
“The first step is to give us a call. From there we’ll set up an appointment to come out to your home,” McCool says. “That way we can see all the aspects of the property. What the contours of the yard are. What the access is like. Even the best location based on where the sun rises and sets.”
The timeline to get started is largely based on the homeowner and how decisive they are, McCool adds. Once everything is confirmed, things move to contract and Swim-Mor Pools & Spas starts working on permits.
“Time is of the essence. Permits can take from two weeks to several months, all depending on the municipality,” McCool says.
Prior to March 2020, business was strong for Swim-Mor Pools & Spa. That was only boosted when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the region.
“The pool business was never busier than it was in COVID,” McCool says. “The lockdowns forced people to stay at home and they immediately focused on the backyard.”
Although that business boom has settled down a bit, things are still busy. But pool trends, according to McCool, have held fairly steady.
Hampton-style pools have long been a customer favorite, but equally popular are the freeform designs, which can be customized to fit into any backyard environment.
“Through COVID there have not been many

Natural stone is popular for the coping along the pool’s edge, McCool says, as well as darker finishes in the pool. A majority of Swim-Mor Pools & Spa customers are using a salt sanitation system and automated controls in their new pools, as well as choosing to add water features—waterfalls, fountains, deck jets and plenty more. The company also offers many in- pool fixtures for lounging—bar stools and benches that can tie into your outdoor kitchen or can run inside the pool, along with table areas, sundecks for your lounge chairs and custom fire features. Color LED lighting packages come every pool, too.

The majority of customers also choose elements to lengthen their pool-enjoying season, as heaters and spas. “It will extend your pool season by a few months,” McCool says.

Being a local family-owned independent business makes Swim-Mor Pools & Spas a smart choice for customers, according to McCool.
“We’re not national. We’re not a franchise. And we do not try to sell everything. Our expertise has been building custom gunite pools for 55 years and that’s what we focus on,” he says.
Save for a few aspects that are legally required to be outsourced to independent licensed contractors, Swim-Mor Pools & Spas uses all of their own crews for the pool construction, which McCool says is unique for the pool business.
In addition to building new pools, SwimMor Pools & Spas also specializes in renovating gunite pools. The experienced team can handle everything from your standard renovation of replacing your coping, tile and plaster finish, to adding features such as raised water features, sun decks, and even spas that were not originally built with the pool. McCool says, “Even though your pool may not have originally been built with the more current popular features doesn’t mean that Swim-Mor cannot add them now.”
The 2023 pool season is already underway for the business, which thanks to the mild winter meant they were able to start construction early. Pool openings and service will ramp up from mid-April to Memorial Day.
But, for those looking to add a pool to their backyard this summer, it’s not too late. “We’re still building for this year. We’re still selling for this summer,” McCool says. “But don’t waste time. Get in!”

Basement remodels have quickly become one of the most popular home improvement projects—and for good reason. A well-designed basement doesn’t just add extra square footage: It transforms an underused area into functional, beautiful living space that enhances your home’s comfort and resale value.
To explore what makes a finished basement such a smart investment, we spoke with John Wisniewski, president of Daniel Robert Remodeling. He shares how thoughtful design, quality materials, and stellar craftsmanship can turn a dark, unused basement into a true extension of the home.

John Wisniewski,
President
“Homeowners are realizing their basements hold incredible potential,” says Wisniewski. “Whether it’s a place for family movie nights, a home gym or an entertaining space, finishing your basement lets you customize the area to fit your lifestyle. It’s also one of the best ways to add livable square footage without changing the home’s footprint.”
He adds that finished basements are especially appealing in today’s housing market. “You can gain valuable space for significantly less than the cost of a home addition—and the return on investment is strong when it’s designed and built well.”

WHAT FEATURES ARE HOMEOWNERS ASKING FOR MOST?
“Customization is key,” Wisniewski explains. “In one of our recent basement projects, the

homeowners wanted a space that worked for everyone in the family—so we included a full bathroom, a playroom for the kids, and a stunning entertainment area with a custom bar and stadium seating.”
He notes that lighting plays a major role in setting the tone. “We installed layered lighting throughout—recessed, accent and under-bar lighting—to make the space feel bright, open and inviting. The right lighting can make a basement feel like any other room in the house.”
“Absolutely,” Wisniewski says. “A welldesigned basement can yield one of the highest ROIs of any remodeling project— often 70% or more. Plus, you’re gaining usable space immediately, whether that’s an extra guest suite, a home office or a place to entertain.”
He adds that quality construction ensures long-term value. “We use durable materials and advanced waterproofing systems, so homeowners don’t have to worry about moisture or maintenance issues down the road.”

HOW CAN HOMEOWNERS MAXIMIZE FUNCTIONALITY AND STYLE?
“Start with a clear purpose,” advises Wisniewski. “Design the layout around how you’ll use the space most. Then layer in materials and finishes that reflect the rest of your home’s design.”
He notes that even utilitarian basements can feel luxurious with the right details. “We often blend textures—tile backsplashes, wood accents and high-end flooring—to add warmth and character. A custom bar or built-in cabinetry instantly elevates the space while keeping it functional.”
He adds, “Our goal is to make every basement feel like it’s always been part of the home, not an afterthought. For homeowners looking to expand their living space and add real value, a finished basement is one of the smartest investments you can make. With the right design, materials and team, it can become the most-loved room in your home.”

“We come to disassemble the lights, we label them all and then store them for the customer at our facility.

Think again. For one local business, the holiday season began back in August, and it’s in full force until the end of January.
eff Adamiak, the owner of GEM Home Maintenance, began We Hang Holiday Lights with his crew in the fall of 2017 to fill the primary business’s offseason.
“It [holiday lights] sort of fit with our traditional business, window cleaning, power washing, that sort of slows down. … And then I just realized how much happier you make people hanging Christmas lights as opposed to cleaning their windows or cleaning the roof or something like that,” Adamiak says. “And I just fell in love with doing it. It became fun. It’s Christmas lights, who doesn’t like Christmas lights?”
Thus, We Hang Holiday Lights was born, and business is booming with the team providing holiday cheer for more customers than ever before.
In its first year, We Hang Holiday Lights served roughly 30 clients. Last year, the team decorated for 560 clients; this year, Adamiak expects to hang lights at more than 1,000 houses, with hundreds of new and returning customers whose demand for the specialized service is already filling up his team’s schedule. They are without question, the best in the business.
“We try to get as many of our customers installed in October. If you’re a returning customer, we want to get your lights installed in October because it’s safer. There’s no frost on the roof in the morning and the days are longer, so it allows us to get more work done. However, we still have availability in November and December as well.”
Along with the team’s immaculate decorating and top-notch products, they provide maintenance service all throughout the holiday season.
“Part of the contract is, we maintain everything. Bulb goes out? Give me a call and within 24 to 48 hours, I have somebody out there doing the repairs,” Adamiak says.
Maintenance is guaranteed until Jan. 6, which is when We Hang Holiday Lights begins the process of taking

When Adamiak began We Hang Holiday Lights in 2017, he quickly realized the positive impact he was making on his customers. Since then, his team has added a philanthropic facet to the seasonal business, providing lights for families going through tough times and bringing some light to their holiday season.
“We always try to look for as many of those as we can every year,” Adamiak says. “I’d like to do more of those. Those are the most enjoyable jobs ever.”
We Hang Holiday Lights only uses the best lights in the business, or, as Adamiak admirably calls them, “the Bentleys of the holiday light industry.” The company uses C9 lights and customizes the length of the strips to perfectly shape the architecture of each house.
“I can cut these lights to fit any length, any design. And then, of course we can do bushes and trees and shrubs,” Adamiak says.
All of the lights used by We Hang Holiday Lights are warm LEDs, not to be mistaken for the bright blue that people usually associate with LED lighting. These lights are incredibly illuminating and replicate the look of incandescent lights while using only 10% of the energy.
Adamiak believes that a job worth doing is worth doing right, and his customers certainly get what they pay for. He even compares his team’s quality of work to that of Philadelphia’s Boathouse Row and the iconic displays at Downtown Disney, but better!

Fewer people in the United States are moving from house to house these days. In fact, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the percentage of the country’s movers has been on a steady decline, from 16.8% in 2016 to 11.8% last year.
Additionally, more families aren’t just choosing to live in their homes longer: They’re spending more time there. This homebody trend began with the COVID-19 pandemic and its related lockdown, and has not only persisted but also grown over the past five years. Consumer analytics platform CivicScience found that the proportion of adults with a decreased desire to leave their home hit 35% earlier this year, which is higher than the 29% reported in 2020.

Home improvement companies are ready to make what’s old new again for clients who want a refresh of their home.

The problem is, deciding a house is a forever home—or at least a forever-for-awhile home—does not automatically turn it into a dream home. In fact, spending more time in your space may highlight the things you want to change. Does the kitchen look tired? Is the bathroom too bland? Do these floors need restoring? Is it time to update the woodwork?
For those looking to stay in their current home long-term but are still eager for a refresh, House & Home spoke with local professionals to discuss the many ways you can spruce up your home’s interior and make it the perfect place to spend your time.
When staying long-term in a home, it makes sense to invest in quality craftsmanship.
“It adds value and personal character to the house,” explains Pavlo Danylchenko of Signature Woodcraft. The custom interior woodworking business brings beauty to a home, from adding wainscoting to a hallway, to building a mantle around a fireplace, to constructing a custom staircase in a foyer. The company fields a lot of requests for mudroom cabinetry, too, as well as custom shelving and bookcases throughout a home.
“We’ve been doing this for a very long time,” Danylchenko continues. “We know how to do it and it’s very easy for us.”
Adding charm with details is a great way to refresh a tired space, according to Rich Lauletta of Haddon Flooring. The company specializes in luxury hardwood, engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank flooring—the latter a popular choice because of its durability, Lauletta says—and also offers custom wainscoting and eye-catching accent walls, which have been growing in popularity.
“They really brighten up a room,” Lauletta says. “It’s a ‘wow’ factor. One couple told us they couldn’t help but smile when they walk past it. Someone else told us the accent wall made the room their happy place. We love doing them and hope we can spread joy through them.”
They’re also practical and long-lasting, Lauletta adds, with the wood and high gloss paint used being much more durable than a regular painted wall.
Durability is a key reason to use professionals when refreshing your space: They know how to make things not only look great, but also last for years to come.
“Many homeowners love their homes but feel their kitchen or bath no longer reflects their lifestyle or taste,” says Steven Livingston of Kitchen Tune-Up Bloomfield. “Kitchen Tune-Up specializes in breathing new life into existing spaces—without the disruption or cost of a full-gut remodel.”
There are a range of tailored solutions from Kitchen Tune-Up, including the cabinet refacing that gives a brand-new look to existing solid cabinet boxes, new custom cabinetry, and upgrades such as countertops,
tile, hardware and smart storage solutions.
“These options allow homeowners to modernize their space and increase value while staying comfortably in the home they love,” Livingston says.
Kitchen Tune-Up Greater Bergen’s Todd Finkenstadt adds that the company offers options at every investment level.
“If you plan to stay in your home longterm and want a meaningful refresh, Kitchen Tune-Up offers a range of services, from quick updates to complete kitchen transformations to help you love your kitchen again,” he notes.
Another way to upgrade a space without overhauling the entire room is by replacing shower doors and mirrors—accents that should, quite literally, shine.
“Primarily, we’re going to be working in the bathroom,” says Scott Kingsland of Glass Castle. “Shower doors are more modern, heavier glass, less metal. We also offer different mirror options—beveled, custom cut.”
The safety of full-glass shower doors shouldn’t be a concern, according to Kingsland, as it’s tempered safety glass ranging in thickness between three-eighths of an inch to a half-inch.
“You could literally hit them with a hammer and they wouldn’t break. They’re that strong, and definitely very durable,”
he affirms.
From a longevity standpoint, coatings applied to the glass during the manufacturing process, such as Showerguard, not only come with a lifetime warranty but also seal the inside portion of the shower “so every time you clean it, everything comes off and it looks brand new. You can have a shower door that’s 15 years old and it’s still going to be as clear as the day installed,” Kingsland says.
Although most of Glass Castle’s offerings are focused on the bathroom, they have also been adding mirrored walls to basement gyms and, for higher-end customers, glass fronts for wine rooms to showcase the space.
When it comes to trends in the homespace, a lot of the shift is on finishes, whether it’s the front of a cabinet or the hardware of a shower door.
According to Finkelstadt, homeowners are asking for warm, natural finishes and slim shaker cabinets, which “blend natural warmth, modern simplicity and low-maintenance practicality.”
“We’re seeing homeowners lean into warmth and texture—natural woods, matte finishes, and soft whites balanced with statement hardware or bold islands,” agrees Livingston, adding that storage efficiency is an-

other major focus. “Hidden charging drawers, pull-out pantries and built-in organizers are topping most wish lists.”
The biggest industry trend that Kingsland has seen in recent years has been thicker glass and less metal on shower doors, with a wider option of finishes.
“Twenty years ago it was chrome and brass. Then brushed nickel was introduced,” he says. “Today, matte black is popular. Satin brass, satin gold finishes are all pretty popular, too.”
Finishes have changed in woodworking, too, as Danylchenko says, “Paint is trendier right now. It’s rare we do stained jobs.”
When it comes to booking a job for a home facelift, a simple phone call typically begins the process. Most companies offer free in-home consultations to get the ball rolling, too.
“We can show them a bunch of options, different samples where they can put it right in the space to really get the feel of what it would look like when it’s done. We also do visualization tools where we can take a picture of their space and show them a rendering of what it would look like with a custom accent wall or new floors,” Lauletta says.
Even when the customer knows what they want, Dan-
ylchenko says it’s important for the professionals to bring in their own knowledge to make the space as functional and aesthetically pleasing as possible.
“We always provide our own drawings of the projects of how exactly it’s going to look,” he says.
Kitchen Tune-Up uses its own proprietary design quiz to help uncover each client’s style and preferences, according to Livingston.
“It all begins with an inhome consultation, where we collaborate with homeowners to craft a design they’ll love for years to come,” he says. “During the visit, we review the space, discuss functionality and layout, and then translate that into a detailed design plan. From there, we guide clients step-by-step through every component of the remodel—incorporating 3D renderings where applicable for custom kitchens to help them visualize the finished space with complete confidence.”
When a client starts the home upgrade process, they may know exactly what they want, or they might know that they need a refresh but aren’t quite sure how to go about it. In either case, local businesses are ready to work with customers to find their perfect solution.
“We help make it a happy place to spend their time,” Lauletta says.

ith winter fast approaching and frigid temperatures not far behind, many folks have undoubtedly already begun the countdown until the warmer weather arrives next spring. But just because we have traded in our swimsuits and towels for sweaters and blankets, it’s important that homeowners don’t simply slip into hibernation, but rather make sure their property is well-positioned to survive the season’s harsh conditions.

issue and a massive headache.

Whether having your roof, gutters or siding inspected, ensuring your windows and entry doors are properly sealed, having your chimney serviced or tending to your landscaping, there is no shortage of areas to address before Old Man Winter rears his head.
House & Home spoke with some area experts to gain advice on what boxes you should be marking off from your winterizing checklist. No matter what your home’s needs may be, taking a proactive approach can be the difference between a small
Why is now an ideal time to take stock of the exterior of your home and identify potential issues?
Late fall is hands down the smartest time to walk the perimeter of your house with a critical eye. A lot of the leaves are down, so you can spot siding that’s cupped, cracked or pulling away from the wall. You can also spot curled or missing roof shingles. You’ll want to look for daylight peeking through window or door gaps that will become expensive heat
leaks once temperatures drop. A quick visual check now can prevent small issues from becoming larger issues in a couple months.

What are some of the key areas that you try and make homeowners aware of with regard to winterizing their home?
When it comes to winterizing your home, the key is to stop heat loss. The U.S. Department of Energy says that drafts can waste 5-to-30% of

energy use. Take time to inspect your house.
Repairing or replacing windows, doors, siding or your roof can help you reduce heat loss and stop larger problems from developing. In the long run, these proactive fixes stop rot, mold and structural decay that can lead to larger repairs or replacements down the line.
—Mike Chapman
How important is it to have your roof assessed before winter weather arrives, especially if it’s on the older side? Having your roof inspected

before winter is especially important if it’s older or showing signs of wear. Snow, ice and freezing temperatures can worsen small problems like cracks, curling or missing shingles, leading to leaks and costly damage. An inspection can catch these issues early, ensure proper ventilation and insulation, and reduce the risk of ice dams and leaks. It also helps extend your roof’s lifespan, keeps your home safe from structural problems and provides documentation for insurance purposes. In short, a pre-winter roof check is a simple step that can save money

and prevent headaches during the harshest months.

What are some basic tips to help prepare your landscaping for the season?
Some tips would be to cut back growth on any perennials and prune or cut off any dead branches on any shrubs or plants. Also, make sure to clean the leaves off your property. Oftentimes, people will allow leaves to sit on their property throughout the winter, and this results in signifi-
