Alan Cumming in Uncut The Parker Playhouse on Saturday, Apr. 6

Scottish actor and singer Alan Cumming has been a household name in the United States for over 20 years. First appearing on screens stateside in the film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, he went on to gain millions of fans through his appearances on the stage (in Shakespeare plays as well as the musical Cabaret), on the silver screen (the X-Men franchise) and on the small screen in The Good Wife, and now as the host of the super popular “The Traitors.”.

Spend an intimate evening with the entertainer Time magazine called “one of the three most fun people in show business,” as Alan Cumming: Uncut comes to The Parker as part of the Broadway Concert Series on Saturday, April 6 at 8pm.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Alan Cumming just a couple weeks before his performance for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

30 | HotspotsMagazine.com

At what age did you begin performing?

I guess when I was a little boy, I played a lot on my own and I started acting. It was through imagination rather than interaction. What was your rst big break in Show business? Before I left drama school, I was cast on a soap opera when I was 21, and then I never stopped working, so I am not sure I had a big break.

At what point did you know performing would be your career?

From the beginning, as I really had no plan b. I am so lucky that things went well from the word go.

Before we get into your upcoming show at Parker, I need to nd out how you got the job on The Traitors, and did you expect it to be as popular as it has become?

They just asked me. I didn't understand why they wanted me to do it as I had never hosted a competition show before. Once I took the meeting, I knew why they wanted me as they wanted that character I play. I really enjoy it but I didn't realize it would be as huge as it has become.

What do you like best about The Traitors?

I love the fact that I am in this castle with these people, and they are slowly becoming more obsessed, and paranoid. However, they do have the right to be paranoid as there are people trying to murder them. Who were you favorite players from season 1 and from season 2 and why?

Cire was a brilliant player, she played incredible. I also love Kate…she is so

hilarious, but so terrible. I really admired Pilot Pete in season 2, but then he blew it. I also grew very fond of CT; he is a lovely person.

How did you go about selecting the songs for your show “Uncut”?

In a variety of ways, some are the songs I want to sing and then there are themes around most of the other songs. I have a folder in my Spotify with songs that tickle my fancy. I don't really have a system, it's very instinctual.

What else can audiences expect from Uncut?

It's a show about me and a piano with my musical director and it's about being an outsider. It's songs from my life, and how to be authentic in who you are. I try and weave the stories organically through the songs. It's a musical story telling of being an outsider and how you fit in. This is a new show and its nerve racking, but I am exciting about performing it.

Which do you nd most rewarding: singing or acting?

I love all the different hinges I do, but I really enjoy the cabaret shows as I can be vulnerable and personal to the audiences; I love the connection. If I had to choose, I would choose acting in the theater and cabaret shows.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Oh god no!

What do you do for fun?

I love seeing my friends, going to the theater, and engaging with people. So much of my time is about my job, so I really enjoy having my time with my close family and friends. I also enjoy disconnecting and being in the woods. What does the future hold for Alan Cumming? It holds lots of fun for me, I hope. More shows, The Traitors again and I have a movie coming up soon. I will also spend a lot more time in Scotland. I just think more of the same, I really like my life.

Wigstock party on Friday, April 5 featuring cocktails, light bites, a themed wig contest (wigs always highly encouraged for this event!) and a fabulous drag show that will captivate audiences. The International Gay Polo Tournament is proud to announce its partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation for its Polotini Wigstock. This unique fundraiser is set to elevate the threeday affair, not only as a highlight of Wellington's social calendar, but as a beacon of hope and inclusivity for the global LGBTQ+ community.

Saturday, April 6 is reserved for the “main event” tournament and tailgate competition where players from around the world will compete during both The Senator's Cup and The Founders Cup. Spectators and friends are invited to participate in the always popular tailgate competition. Tailgaters are already dreaming up their whimsical tablescapes and decor in preparation for the funspirited competitiveness that lines the polo field, with each tailgate becoming its own experience that collectively contributes to the overall flare and exhilaration of the day. Coveted awards for Best in Show, Best Cuisine, Best Cocktail, Best Single Tailgate, and Best Multiple Tailgate are up for grabs. All in attendance are anxiously waiting to see what themes tailgaters will bring to this years' competition.

A portion of ticket sales from the tournament will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation, an international leader in the global fight against AIDS. GPL aims to harness the power of community and sport to raise critical funds and awareness for the Foundation's lifesaving efforts. Last year, the Foundation launched The Rocket Fund to turbo charge their innovative work, targeting those most at risk of HIV/AIDS, including the LGBTQ+ community. Through this partnership, the GPL further solidifies its commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity, while contributing towards a cause that makes a positive impact in the lives of millions of people.

GPL Polotini Wigstock! promises to be an unforgettable night where sport meets spectacle, all in support of the mission to end AIDS. Guests can expect an evening filled with glamour, entertainment, and the spirit of giving, perfectly capturing the essence of both organizations' dedication to making a difference.

Miami Beach Pride returns for its 16th anniversary with events running from April 2 - April 14, presented by Love Spirit. What originally began as a parade down Ocean Drive has now transformed into programming spanning 12 days that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. The festivities include lavish floats, a queer art showcase designed to support local artists, social justice night as the community faces increasing legislative attacks, celebrity guests of honor, live performances and much more. This year's

2-day festival presented by Love Spirit has grown tremendously and promises to be the biggest and best iteration of Miami Beach Pride to date. To honor the journey of the LGBTQ+ community, the 2024 festival theme, Pride. Progress. Perseverance., will highlight our community's past and celebrate a brighter collective future.

“With over 12 days of exciting events, there is truly something for everyone and we have maintained our commitment to keep much of our programming free for

the community to be as inclusive as possible,” says Bruce Horwich, Chairman of Miami Beach Pride.

“Growing from a 15,000-person event in 2009 to now being one of the most celebrated Prides in the country with more than 170,000 attendees from all over the world, our goal is to honor our community all while having the message of unwavering resilience and uniqueness on full display along Miami Beach.”

I had a chance to sit down “Drag Race All Star” Jessica Wild, who hosting and performing at the VIP Beach Affair for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

How has your life changed since you were on Drag Race Season 2?

I have been living my best life traveling the world and living my dream having a successful career as a drag queen. I have been doing tv music, etc.

After so many years (13) what made you come back to All Stars?

It was a difficult decision because drag was not the same as it was when I was originally on the show. But since social media took over it was important for me to put myself back on TV and all stars 8 was the perfect opportunity to showcase the new Jessica Wild.

How was the lming of all stars was it like your rst season?

It was very hard as it's a lot of hours of work. We wake up super early and go to bed super late, and sometimes you must continue working in your hotel room. In addition, I made it to the end, so it was 6 weeks of no communication with anybody or no computer. The good thing was in all stars 8 there were many Latinos

working behind the scenes so I felt much more supported and helped.

What was your favorite challenge on All Stars?

It was the Rusical as I love to dance and I love to sing, and its how I shine the most. However, the one I am the proudest of was the Roast as I was super scared of it and I was surprised how well I did. How hard was it to keep the secret that you were on all stars and on how well you did?

I am good holding secrets. That's part of the magic of Drag Race. Since the show aired you have been traveling the world. Do you have a favorite location/city?

Everywhere I visit is magical and special, but I do love Mexico and Brazil. However, I have a good time everywhere and I a super grateful. Are you excited about hosting and performing at Miami Beach Pride VIP Affair?

I cannot wait to celebrate pride in Miami especially because one of my favorite decades is the 80's and this party is all about the 80's. I have an amazing show prepared! Describe yourself in 3 words? Humble, funny and wild.

What do you do for fun?

I love to play music as music makes me happy. Sometimes I just stay in my room dancing to music. It's my own Zumba class. I also like to go out with my friends. What does the future hold for Jessica Wild?

I have more goals to reach, and I hope to be healthy and keep doing what I am doing. I have a one woman show coming up and more music and theater. More tv is coming also.

Tony, GRAMMY and Emmy Awardwinning singer and actor Ben Platt announced his third studio album, Honeymind, and folksy single Andrew earlier this month. Of Honeymind's inspiration he said, "One day I ate some mushroom chocolate and went on a hike with the love of my life. I thought about how to describe to him that I was just so happy to be in love with him. That my love for him somehow softens things and slows it all down." He decided "Honeymind" described the feeling.

New album Timeless out June 14 This album means so much to me and I can't wait to share even more soooon. GET READY,” she posted. She also announced a tour in support of her new album.

Disney On Ice Presents Frozen & Encanto Makes Two Stops in South Florida

For the first time, Disney On Ice invites families to step inside the magical adventures of Walt Disney Animation Studios' Frozen, the #1 Animated feature of all time, and Disney Animation's Encanto, the 2022 Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Award winner for Best Animated Feature, as they come to life like never before. This adventure on ice transports fans into two of the most popular Disney films as audiences can sing-along to their favorite songs while embracing world-class ice skating, aerial acrobatics and more when Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto skates into South Florida playing from April 4–7 at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise followed by April 24-28, 2024 at Watsco Center in Miami.

Audiences will see Anna, Elsa, Mirabel, and the Madrigal family live, as well as fan favorites Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald, Goofy, and many more. Narrating the captivating story of Frozen is Olaf, the lovable snowman who likes warm hugs and all things summer. Astounding iceskating transports families to Arendelle to be a part of Anna's adventure to find Elsa,

whose icy powers unleashed an eternal winter. Kristoff and Sven take fans along as they encounter wintry conditions in a race to bring back summer.

After a very Frozen adventure, audiences will journey to a vibrant town in the mountains of Colombia where they will meet the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a magical casita in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Mirabel tells the tale of her amazing family and her journey to save the casita, her enchanted family home, alongside her sisters: Isabela, whose perfection radiates with her ability to

How old were you when you began skating, and did you always have the performance bug?

I was 4 years old when I started skating, and I started competing at 6 and I fell in love with being able to do that for a crowd. At what point did you consider skating a career? During Covid, I was thinking to myself what more I could do with skating other than coaching, and I had remembered I watched Disney on Ice and other similar shows and I said why not try this professionally. What's the best part about working for Feld Entertainment? And what's the best part of playing Dolores?

The best part about working for Feld is traveling and I get to see cities I would never had been able to see. Being able to travel and see the different types of audiences that sing and dance with us is amazing. I love being able to play Cousin Delores since she can hear everything from a mile away. I also love playing her as she does help the family.

make plants grow and flowers bloom with every step, and Luisa, with the gift of super strength that she uses to help her village move buildings and reroute rivers. For the first time live, fans can witness Tia Pepa, who can control the weather with her emotions; her husband Felix; their daughter Dolores, with her gift to hear; and Bruno, the mysterious and misunderstood Madrigal family member whose visions foretold the future.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Tiffany Beranger, who plays Dolores, for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

Tiffany Beranger

What are some of the favorite cities you have toured?

I think my favorite city by far is Montreal. When we went there it was snowy and it was just a different place, and the city took me aback. I also enjoyed the audience there. Here in the states, I absolutely enjoyed playing in Orlando.

Are you excited to come back to South Florida where you grew up?

I am super excited to come back to my home town and for my family and friends to come out and see me in this fabulous show.

Who are your role models?

My parents are one of my favorite role models; they've been married for 41 years and have managed to live a prosperous family-oriented lifestyle, which I really do admire. Another role model that deserves a lot of credit is my first, primary coach. Virgilie Aliu is a woman who became not only a role model but my mentor still to this day. She's not only a brilliant instructor but also a multibusiness owner. Virgilie has shown me the importance of ambition, determination, and dedication for any instance.

What are you planning to do after your skating career?

I do have other plans, but I believe I can merge the two. Right now, I am just enjoying what I do at Disney on ice. Describe yourself in three words?

Dedicated and determined. What do you do for fun?

I like to sing or lay in bed and relax. What should our readers expect from Disney On Ice presents Frozen & Encanto?

You can expect Ana Elsa, Olaf, Sven, and all the characters. This is Olaf's narration of Frozen and taking us through that journey. There are tons of cool tricks happening in the show. This is a show for kids and adults!

Tickets now available for purchase online at Ticketmaster.com or visit the venues Box Offices.

RUSSELL TOVEY IS A CONFLICTED QUEER COP IN 'PLAINCLOTHES'

The history of the LGBTQ+ community and its relationship to the police is a fraught one, embedded with generations of trauma, injustice, and punishment, from well before the Stonewall riots to the present day. And that's the backdrop for the new feature film from writer-director Carmen Emmi, “Plainclothes,” a period 1990s-set drama, inspired by true events, about an undercover police officer tasked with entrapping and arresting

queer men. Russell Tovey (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”) stars as the cop who finds himself attracted to one of the men (Tom Blyth, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”) that he arrests. Obviously, existential and career conflict ensues, and that' s just the fallout for the guy who didn't wind up in jail. It begins shooting in Syracuse, New York, soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Elliot Page producing cheerleading drama 'Backspot’

”Bring It On” fans, you need a little more serious drama in your cheerleader-movieloving life, and Elliot Page is here to deliver it. He' s producing the film “Backspot,” a queer cheerleading-centered film from writer Joanne Sarazen and non-binary director D.W. Waterson. It stars rising talent Devery Jacobs — so wonderful in the great series “Reservation Dogs” — as an ambitious cheerleader, and Evan Rachel Wood as her very demanding coach. Further plot details aren' t currently known, but according to advance word this is a complex queer story that detours from the norm and pushes boundaries, and

that's always welcome news. It's shooting right now, which probably means a 2025 release.

International queer cinema alert!

What happens when an undocumented South American gay man finds himself in the North American queer mecca of Provincetown? That's the premise of Brazilian filmmaker Marco Calvani' s feature film, “High Tide,” which took its U.S. bow recently at the South By Southwest Film Festival. The romantic drama stars queer actor Marco Pigossi as a Brazilian immigrant finding his way in a strange land full of carefree people on vacation, and the unexpected romance he finds blooming with an African American nurse. It' s queer indie through and through — think themes of loneliness and isolation while everyone around you is dancing to house music and doing shots — with a cast that

includes up-and-comer James Bland as well as “Tangerine” star Mya Taylor and the legendary Marisa Tomei. Look for this one to hit streaming or your friendly neighborhood arthouse sometime in the near future.

Get ready for the 'Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show' “The perpetually low-key stand-up comic/actor Jerrod Carmichael has had a fascinating past few years. He came out on a stand-up special, costarred in the Oscarnominated film “Poor Things,” and now he' s doing reality TV. OK, his version of it, anyway. No stranger to turning the camera on himself for

short personal documentaries, Carmichael is gearing up for “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” where he'll investigate the nature of speaking truth in front of an audience.

Included in the just-dropped trailer are a previously unseen boyfriend, a masked friend with a secret identity who challenges him about the production of the special itself (our guess: Bo Burnham), and some heartbruising glimpses at family conversations, one of which involves his mother praying for God to take away Carmichael's queerness. It drops very soon — March 29 — on HBO and Max.

Romeo San Vicente will pray for you, bless your heart.
