Palm Beach Pride 2024

Sat. Mar 23 & Sun. Mar 24 in Lake Worth Beach

The stars are aligning to make 2024's Palm Beach Pride the most successful Palm Beach Pride in the county's history. Taking place on March 23 & 24, from 12pm-6pm at Bryant Park in Lake Worth Beach, FL, the annual event hosted by Compass LGBTQ+ Community Center will offer vendors from all over the country, fun activities and all-star entertainment headlined by Brooke Eden.

The family and pet-friendly festival features an impressive cast of entertainers who have all been born, raised or have lived in Palm Beach County and South Florida. Sunday's headliner and rising country music star is Brooke Eden; Brooke has been nominated for both the CMT and GLAAD Media Awards in the category of “Outstanding Breakout Artist."

It was a pleasure to sit down with Brook for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did you begin performing?

I started performing when I was 5 years old. I was just singing around the house

24 | HotspotsMagazine.com

and my dad who was/is a drummer in a local country band saw I could sing, and he asked me to come and play with the band and I jumped at that opportunity.

What was your rst professional gig and how much did you get paid?

It was at the amphitheater here in West Palm by the South Florida Fair grounds. I was 12 and I got to open for Alan Jackson. When did you know performing would be your career?

I feel like I have always known it, even when I was in school. I also knew that as soon as I could move to Nashville I would, and I did. You are a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, how hard was it to come out being a Country star?

When I first met my now wife, we were blatantly told that if I wanted to keep my career in country music we would have to keep our relationship a secret. It was very taxing emotionally and physically. The process of coming out was way less scary than the 5 years of being in the closet. Thankfully, I was met with so much love and acceptance.

“...it's always a treat to come back to my hometown. I love to play shows for the people that pushed me and believed in me.”

How did you meet your wife Hilary, and was it love at rst sight?

We met on my first day on a radio tour as it was her job to take me around to meet country radio. We didn't know each other at all, and I remember her walking on the bus, and I felt an overwhelming feeling of peace. By the end of the first day, I knew there was something different about her. We had this strong connection and bond immediately, and I knew I could trust it. I knew by day 3 I was in love with her. Two weeks after we met, we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together and we never looked back. That was 8 years ago.

Your wedding was officiated by Trisha Yearwood. How amazing was that?

It was so crazy to think about as I remember singing “She's in Love with a Boy” when I was 5 years old. Fast forward

25 years later and she is officiating our wedding. She is such an ally and a lover of love. It was so cool that she was willing to make our special day even more special. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Loyal, driven, and silly.

What do you do for fun?

We love to travel. We did Spain and Portugal last year. We love to see new cultures, taste new food, and meet new people.

What should we expect from your performance at Palm Beach Pride?

I will have my whole band from Nashville with me, and almost every song I am performing is out in the world so everyone

Palm Beach Pride welcomes back local celebrities including Daniel Franzese (Mean Girls, Looking), the Synergy Twins, The First Lady of the Palm Beaches Melissa St. John, and the Queen of the Palm Beaches Velvet Lenore.

We spoke to Erika Constantine, Vice President of Marketing for Discover The Palm Beaches, and she said: “Palm Beach Pride showcases our destination as a welcoming place for all, and has a positive impact on our residents, businesses and tourism industry. The Palm Beaches are built on a spirit of genuine hospitality as a way of life, and vibrant events such as Pride help to foster that spirit.”

In addition to their fabulous entertainment, festival attendees can

will be able to sing along. I will also be debuting a brand new song that I am very excited about.

Are you excited to be back in Palm beach where you grew up?

OH MY GOSH, of course, it's always a treat to come back to my hometown. I love to play shows for the people that pushed me and believed in me.

What does the future hold for you?

This year we will have a lot more music coming out. More music, more life and more fun. My goal is to create a safe space for queer people in country music.

The Palm Beach Pride Parade takes place March 24, at 11am on Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth Beach and will be led by members of the Compass Youth Program and the 2024 Grand Marshal, Chris Rhoades.

Cirque Soleil’sdu Echo at Gulfstream Park Through Apr. 7th

In my opinion, the best part of Cirque du Soleil under the big tops is the excitement you feel the moment you walk in. You step onto the grounds, and you know that you are going to be a part of something amazing, and you just can't wait for it to start. I was lucky enough to get invited to the opening night, so there was complimentary champagne, drinks, and hors d'oeuvres for 90 minutes before the show started (thanks Jose).

Cirque du Soleil has returned to South Florida with its latest show, ECHO, a story of connection, intention, and the symbiotic unions between humans and the animal kingdom.

Fueled by the power of change, the hope of the youth, and the value of empathy, ECHO follows an inquisitive

young woman named Future as she wanders into a fantasy world that explores our sacred bond with animals and nature. When Future and her best friend the DOG (Ewai) encounter a mysterious CUBE, they quickly learn how their actions have the power to shape this world, and if we come together, we can rebuild our planet to create the world we all want to live in.

Cirque du Soleil's 20th Big Top show brings bold new visuals and a unique aesthetic on tour. Packed with vibrant characters, inspiring music, astounding lights and

projections, and never-before-seen acrobatic feats, ECHO invites audiences on a journey through a universe of color, wonder, and infinite possibilities.

The imaginative set design of ECHO revolves around the CUBE, and this cube is EVERYTHING! It's a simple yet profound set piece that blends a spectacular range of audio, visual, and tactile media. The CUBE sets the stage for a wide range of acrobatics and theatrics. At different points, it may be dismantled, stripped, and rebuilt, scaled by animals, swung from by artists, and used as a mesmerizing projection surface. Surrounded by a stage that resembles water in a lake, every interaction with the CUBE creates a unique effect that ripples into the future. The Cube sets the tone for the first act Symbiosis: Acro-dance of the animals. This architectural piece is phenomenal, as animals hang in a vertical position on the CUBE, performing an acro-dance routine where we see them meeting each other as animals who share this world, discovering life, and living in harmony. I had lower level seats and these animals were flying

HotspotsMagazine.com | 37

right over my head. I was like a little kid watching them soar.

With so many elements involved in a single set piece, ECHO Author-Director Mukhtar Omar Sharif Mukhtar says the CUBE is up to interpretation. “It's not just as literal as 'this is the world',” he says. “It could be anything: a relationship, love, something you cherish… It could represent the world, or the planet, but it's really a symbol. The more we take away from it, the emptier it becomes, and the more we put into it, the fuller it becomes. That's what I would love for people to see when they see this.

This will be Cirque du Soleil's official return to South Florida since 2019, and for the first time, fans will enjoy a spectacular new location against the backdrop of the iconic Pegasus located at 1/ST's Gulfstream Park. The 11-story bronze Pegasus statue is a

symbol of the renowned Gulfstream Park, South Florida's premiere entertainment destination featuring world-class Thoroughbred horse racing, a casino with Vegas-style slot machines and video tables, and The Village at Gulfstream Park offering destination retailers, signature restaurants (we ate at Christine Lee's and I highly recommend it as the food was DELISH), outdoor cafés and unique entertainment options. It is also the first ever Big Top show to come to Broward County!

Echo lives up to all the fabulousness Cirque is known for, and I recommend you get tickets to see this amazing show as I promise you will not be disappointed.

For tickets or more information, to Echo, which plays through April 7, go to: cirquedusoleil.com/echo.

The musical is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman and The Public Theater. The Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording is available everywhere nationwide.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Blaine Alden Krauss, who plays Hamilton, for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

At what age did you begin performing?

I think I was singing as I came out of the womb, so there was no real start time. I always knew I wanted to communicate in front of large groups of people. Before I could speak, I was chanting gibberish as a baby to other kids. Later, I went to performing arts schools, so it's been a lifetime affair.

What was your rst professional gig and how much did you get paid?

My Aunt and mom would always ask me to sing for family and friends and I would always put my hand out and if they didn't have a dollar I wouldn't sing. My first professional gig was at Summer Stock. My first big gig was out of college when I did the tour of “The Lion King.”

When did you know performing would be your career?

I think when you are an artist, it's a tough life, but for me performing is in my DNA, so there was never a time where I said this is what I am going to do for money. It's the only thing I could do. If you do what you love, the money will follow.

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

I have had a really great career so far and had the opportunity to participate in some of the biggest shows. Every time I think I have a favorite, the next show comes along and is challenging and thrilling and just what I need at that moment so it becomes my favorite.

What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but would die to play)?

It hasn't been written yet. My dream is to create a new role and build a character from the ground up…that is my next goal! I am biracial and proudly queer, so I hope the role tapes into those identities. Since you just told me you are part of the LGBTQ+ community, are you single or taken?

I am single!

So, what is the perfect guy for you?

The perfect guy is impossible, there will never be one. So, if there is a guy that's waiting for me, please release the

Blaine Alden Krauss

pressure as I don't expect perfection. I want someone whose light is very bright, and they can hold their own. Adventurous would be great and someone who appreciates creativity and the arts as my lifestyle and schedule is a bit of a challenge. Is it intimidating or is there extra pressure being in such an iconic show and playing Hamilton?

Yeah, for sure on a couple levels. The role is so iconic and synonymous with Lin Manuel Miranda. It's incredibly personal to him and it's his. Also, everyone has seen it on TV, and of course the original cast was so good. I hope I am giving true diligence and true homage to who Hamilton was.

Is it hard being on the road all the time?

It can be a challenge, but it's also a blessing. The grass can always be greener, but I love what I do. I don't get to see my loved ones a lot and I don't get weekends and holidays off, but I get to travel the country, eat amazing food, and see different cultures. At the end of the day, I am doing what I love and living my passion. Ther e is no greater gift.

How well do you and your castmates get along? We get along very well. It takes a community to do what we do. We do have a great time. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Passionate, curious, and empathetic. What do you do for fun?

I play Switch, and I am a big political news

junkie. I find joy in politics and keeping up with the day-to-day rumblings. I love spending time with my dog. I also write my own music. In addition, I am a secret WWE fan. I also love to eat!

What should our readers expect from this touring company of, “Hamilton”?

I think they should expect to see the same quality the show had when the show opened, and what they saw on the Disney plus version. They can also expect to see a lot of joy and love on stage. You can see it when we are performing. The talent is unbelievable, so buckle up.

Tickets for the Miami engagement are $39-$229 and may be purchased online at arshtcenter.org or at the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling 305. 949-6722.

Tickets for the Palm Beach engagement at the Kravis Center are priced from $49 to $159 with a select number of premium seats available from $149 to $199 and can be bought at kravis.org, or in person at the Box Office or by calling 561.832.7469.

Bruno Duarte rose to fame as a breakout star on the Bravo reality TV show Below Deck. He starred in the series as a deck hand, winning the hearts of viewers for his gorgeous looks and compelling life story.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Duarte suffered a traumatic childhood marked by an abusive father and the loss of his twin brother. Determined to find his way in life, Duarte found work as a waiter in luxury hotels and restaurants. He then took his passion for hospitality to the sea, working first on cruises, then jumping ship into yachting.

By the time Below Deck came calling, life was smooth sailing for Duarte, professionally and personally. However, the winds of change would come blowing in with Duarte exiting the show and ending his relationship with his fiancé.

Today, Bruno Duarte has found love again with Alex and the two are exploring a new venture together as fashion models. They are featured in the spring campaign for ES Collection USA.

How did you meet?

I was living in Cannes with my then fiancé and we decided to visit Nice and go to the gay bars. Alex happened to be a bartender at one of the bars and we started to talk.

Was it love at rst sight?

I had a wave of feelings that I had never felt before. My ex and I were in a seven-year relationship and thought it might be nice to have an experience with a third. But after meeting Alex, I wanted him for me, period. I couldn't see him with my ex. Our first four weeks together, we couldn't let each other go.

Alex, what do you love most about Bruno?

His generosity, his determination, his smile, the way he takes care of me. He is a golden man and that's why I married him! I don't believe we have spent a day apart since the first day we met.

What do you love most about Alex?

Alex is kind, his love is intense and the feeling that I have when he looks into my eyes is unique. What is a typical day in the life of Alex and Bruno like?

Bruno: I left my job in the yachting industry to be present in our relationship and since then we've been traveling and living our dreams.

How did you each nd your way into modeling athleticwear?

Alex: All of the modelling work has been driven by our social media. The team at ESCollectionUSA invited us to collaborate on their latest campaign.

Who is the biggest ham in front of the camera?

Alex: (Laughing) Bruno!

Bruno: Alex hates being in the spotlight. It isn't easy for him. I go with the flow, and I always have so much fun working with him.

Alex, can you tell us about your tattoos? Do they hold a particular meaning for you?

They all hold special meaning to me; most having to do with my family and my grandparents.

Bruno, you have a few tats too...

I have two small tattoos. I did the first one when Alex and I were in Lisbon together. The other was done in France. Neither has significant meaning but I plan to soon add a big tattoo on my arm to represent a childhood trauma that I experienced. How do you each maintain your physiques?

Bruno & Alex

HotspotsMagazine.com | 65

Alex: A lot of gym, cross fit, diet, and struggles.

Bruno: (Laughing) Alex is more sensitive when it comes to food temptation!

What's your advice to couples on how to keep their love strong this spring?

Alex: Our strong foundation is built on communication. Also, accepting that there will be bad moments but it is important to never give up.

Bruno: If you love someone, you can't run away just because things are bad. The real love is when you stay and face the problems, and work together to overcome them.

What's next for you both?

Alex: We want to build our own business. We have some ideas that we are cooking.

Bruno: I'm also trying to get back into some adventure reality show. Likely not Below Deck. I think that show is over for me.

All gear is available now at ESCollectionUSA.com.

Suspiro is a gastronomic adventure that seeks to rescue the charm of a noble and ancestral culture fusing Peru and Asian cuisine. The Mango Ceviche is a good option along with another traditional appetizer like the Yucas in Huancaina Sauce. Mixing it with the Asian flare, my favorite roll is the Lomo Teriyaki Roll (Breaded shrimp with cream cheese and slices of tenderloin with teriyaki sauce); Port Fettucine, Quinoa risotto with pesto and grilled tuna are other delicious options.

Their must-have dish is their calamary and ask for the Asian sauce, they are delish and just that can be your whole meal. The BBQ ribs are also great, just be careful with the sauce as they tend to over do it. The Caesar salad is also very good, ask for dressing on the side or light dressing. The New York Times says SIX “Totally Rules!” (Critic's Pick) and The Washington Post hails SIX as “Exactly the kind of energizing, inspirational illumination this town aches for!"

The SIX: Live On Opening Night Broadway album debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard cast album charts and surpassed 6 million streams in its first month.

SIX is currently on-stage at the Lena Horne Theatre (256 W. 47th St) on Broadway in New York City, the Vaudeville Theatre in London's West End, on tour in the UK, and at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Aryn Bohannon, who understudies for 3 main roles Jane Seymour, Katherine Howard, and Anne Boleyn for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing?

I started when I was 12 years old. I always wanted to be a part of musical theater, but I was a gymnast and my mom wanted me to stay a gymnast. Luckily, I got injured and couldn't do gymnastics, so I got to pursue musical theater.

What was your rst professional gig and how much did you get paid?

This is my first professional gig. When did you know performing would be your career?

I always knew. As soon as I started, I loved it so much I knew I couldn't do anything else. How excited are you that Six is your rst ational

tour?

So excited, it's a dream come true. I am a huge fan of the show and when I got the call I was in it; it did not feel real. You understudy for 3 of the queens, do you have a favorite?

I think my favorite is Ann Bolin as she is

HotspotsMagazine.com | 93
Aryn Bohannon as Jane Seymour in The North American Tour Boleyn Company of “SIX.”

so fun and punky the whole time. I was a fan of Avril Lavigne as a kid and that is kind of what she embodies.

Other than these roles, what has been your favorite role so far?

I got to play Heather Chandelier in Heathers and thankfully I am not a mean person, but playing mean is fun.

What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)?

There a lot, now the one I am mostly dreaming about is Eurydice in Hadestown.

How well do you and your castmates get along?

Oh my gosh, so well. They are pretty much my family at this point. We have seen each other 24/7 for like a year and a half now. The fact that we spend time together outside of work says a lot. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Silly, happy, and ambitious

What do you do for fun?

I like to play video games and I love arcades. I also love cinema.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of, “Six”?

I think this musical is going to be a favorite all around no matter what background you come from. The songs are like the songs you hear on the radio, and the story is face paced so it's easy to follow. It's like a giant concert so it's a lot of fun.

For more information on Aryn, go to Instagram.com/Arynboh. Tickets for SIX at the Kravis Center can be purchased at Kravis.org or by phone at 561.832.7469 or visit the Box Office Monday through Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. 94 | HotspotsMagazine.com

HOTspots/HOUT Art Gallery with Dennis Dean Women’s Exhibit Opening Reception
The opportunity to serve as the National President of Spark has propelled me into a role where I can genuinely bring about change in women's and the community's lives.”

The Women in Our Orgs: Sandyann

Munroe

AHF & Spark United

As we stand on the brink of Women's History Month, it is time to celebrate another great woman who is part of our community and stands at the forefront of change. Meet Saandyann, Associate Director of Human Resources at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and serving as the National President of Spark United, an affinity group within AHF dedicated to the empowerment of women and girls. Hope her story serves as a testament to the resilience and strength of women who pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future. Sandyann's unwavering vision and determination have propelled this organization to new heights. As she puts it, she “was born with a calling to be of service,” it is that simple!

Do you have any female LGBT icons who have left a mark on you and/or motivated you to be part of an LGBT organization?

While many remarkable LGBT icons have made significant contributions to our community, the women closest to us often leave the most profound marks on our lives. My inspiration comes from the

104 | HotspotsMagazine.com

women in my family, specifically my greatgrandmother, grandmother, and mother. While I may not have LGBT icons who have directly influenced my journey in the same way, the love and leadership of these incredible women have guided and empowered me to lead with compassion, empathy, and integrity in my role as the National President of Spark United.

How did the opportunity to be part of Spark come about for you? Was it something you looked for or did it find you?

The opportunity to be part of Spark came about through intentional seeking and serendipity. I was born with a calling to be of service. The opportunity to serve as the National President of Spark has propelled me into a role where I can genuinely bring about change in women's and the community's lives. As National President, I am committed to ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to thrive and embrace her fullest potential daily.

When did you come on board?

I joined AHF in 2016, eventually assuming the role of Human Resources Manager and now Associate Director of Human Resources. I was actively involved in finding and creating Spark United in 2018. Additionally, I was appointed as the National President of Spark United in 2019. Balancing these roles has allowed me to contribute to both organizations' goals.

What did you see as your biggest challenges when you first started with Spark?

One of the most significant challenges we faced was establishing brand awareness within communities. As a new organization, we needed to make our presence known

and convey our mission effectively to those who could benefit from our services. We needed to ensure that individuals who identified as female were aware of Spark and understood the support, advocacy, and resources we could provide. Over time, through strategic partnerships with other prominent women's organizations and organizations like SunServe and HotSpots, our brand visibility has significantly improved.

What is the relation between Spark and AHF?

Spark, an affinity group within the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), is dedicated to supporting all individuals who identify as female in their journey to live their best lives and show up as their best selves each day. While Spark operates with its own distinct mission and objectives, it collaborates closely with AHF.

Have you found it's gotten easier for women to openly talk about their sexual lives?

Progress has been made. Through initiatives like comprehensive sex education programs, public health campaigns, and advocacy efforts, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of empowering women with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their sexual health. Additionally, technological advancements have provided greater access to information and support through digital platforms and online resources.

HotspotsMagazine.com | 105

However, despite these advancements, challenges and barriers still exist. At Spark United, we are committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces where women feel a strong sense of power to openly discuss their sexual health, seek support, and access resources to protect themselves and their partners.

Does Spark only focus on women and HIV/AIDS?

While our roots are grounded in this commitment, with a specific emphasis on supporting women impacted by HIV/AIDS, our mission has evolved over time. Today, Spark United remains dedicated to uplifting all women, regardless of their HIV/AIDS status. While we recognize the unique challenges faced by women affected by HIV/AIDS, our organization now provides holistic support, advocacy, and resources to address a wide range of issues impacting women's lives.

How big is the women's base of members and/or supporters at Spark?

Our network base comprises women from various backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic statuses. Our supporters span from young adults to seniors. We welcome women from all walks of life. Additionally, we embrace and celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities within our community. Our membership base includes women who identify as heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allies, among others.

What's ahead for Spark in 2024?

Spark is poised to embark on a multifaceted approach to address the diverse needs of women in our communities. Here's what's ahead:

• Menstrual Hygiene Initiatives

• Mental Health Initiatives

• Digital Resources

• Voting Education Initiatives

• Future Readiness lol

...the love and leadership of these incredible women have guided and empowered me to lead with compassion, empathy, and integrity in my role as the National President of Spark United.”

Overall, 2024 holds immense promise for Spark United as we continue our mission of empowering women to live their best lives and show up as their best selves daily. With a focus on menstrual hygiene, mental health, digital resources, voting education, and future-readiness, we are poised to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women across the globe. We will create a brighter and more equitable future for all women. Read
