Back by popular demand, The Book Of Mormon returns to Fort Lauderdale for a limited engagement this Tuesday, December 12 through Sunday, December 17, at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Book Of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. The Broadway production is directed by Parker and Twotime Tony award winner Casey Nicholaw and choreographed by Nicholaw. The tour is directed and choreographed by Jennifer Werner based on the original Broadway

direction and choreography. Set design is by three-time Tony Award winner Scott Pask, costume design is by Tony Award winner Ann Roth, lighting design is by five-time Tony Award winner Brian MacDevitt, sound design is by two-time Tony Award winner Brian Ronan, and hair design is by Josh Marquette.

Orchestrations are by Tony Award winner Larry Hochman and two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Oremus. Music supervision and vocal arrangements are by Stephen Oremus. Casting is by Carrie Gardner.

Since opening on March 24, 2011, The Book Of Mormon has become one of the most successful shows in Broadway history, breaking the Eugene O'Neill Theatre house record more than 50 times. In addition to The Mattachine Society nine Tony Awards including Best Musical and the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, The Book Of Mormon won five Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Drama League Award for Best Musical and four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Musical.

The Book Of Mormon has been performed on three continents and has won over 30 international awards. The musical has smashed long-standing box office records in New York, London, Melbourne, Sydney and in cities across the U.S. and the world.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Lamont J. Whitaker, a Miami native, who plays Mafala Hatimbi in The Book Of Mormon for this exclusive Hotspots interview.

At what age did you begin performing?

I started performing very young in Miami, as my grandmother ran a few theaters.

What was your �rst paid gig and how much did you get paid?

My first paid work was during college and it was for the show “Kiss Me Kate” in Los Angeles and I think I got paid 450 a week.

When did you know performing would be your career?

When I was very young. I knew when I was 5 or 6 that I would do this for the rest of my life.

Other than this one, what has been your favorite role so far?

I would say Mister in the Color Purple. Just being able to step into a role that is so amazing and be one of the leads in a show where I loved the material was everything.

What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)?

Sweeney Todd. That is definitely my ultimate role as I love being the vilain of a show and its also perfect for my voice type; it is the role for a baritone.

Is it hard being on the road all the time?

Actually, I am a navy brat, and I was never in one place more than a year, so I am used

to it. I love doing it, but the hardest part is to find your own personal space to stay creative.

How well do you and your castmates get along?

We get along very well; this has been my favorite group of people to work with. I love this cast.

What do you do for fun?

I love to write music and musicals.

How hard was it to learn the phrase “Hasa Diga Eebowai” (for those of you who haven't seen The Book Of Mormon yet, you will get this question after you see it)?

I grew up in Miami around a lot of Africans so it was easy for me to learn. But I can see how hard it would be to learn for other people.

What should our readers expect from this touring company of “The Book of Mormon”?

The show is more than about religion, but rather it's about the power that one person can have. It makes you think about everything in life and at the end of the show it shows everyone why we need each other.

The music and the lyrics of the show are absolutely phenomenal!

Is there anything I didn't ask you that you want to talk about?

Yes, I have Miami roots, so I am from Florida, and I am so happy to be back.

We're big fans of Native American trans filmmaker Sydney Freeland's indie

drama “Drunktown's Finest,” and we were thrilled to learn that she'd be taking the lead on a new project for Marvel, “Echo.” Well, the trailer just dropped for the violent adult-oriented “Hawkeye” spinoff series starring Alaqua Cox, and it'll be the first time a Marvel TV project has earned a TV-MA rating. Plotwise, it'll involve the character of Echo/Maya Lopez (Cox), a young deaf woman returning from New York — the setting of “Hawkeye” — to her home in Oklahoma where she'll reconnect with her Native American roots and deal with the past she left behind. The series also stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Charlie Cox (“Daredevil”) and Devery Jacobs and Zahn McClarnon (both “Reservation Dogs”), Academy Award nominee for “Dances with Wolves,” Graham Greene, and “Killers of the Flower Moon” co-star Tantoo Cardinal. So yes, the cast is packed, the trailer looks dark, and it all hits Hulu and Disney+ on Jan. 10.

At what age did Drag become an interest and how did you pick your name?

Drag has been an interest to me for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was stealing my mom and grandma's clothes and always had a curiosity for the feminine.

Because I was told it wasn't for me, I wanted it more. Jimbo is my nickname, as my dad always called me that. When I was 25, my partner started calling me Jimbo and then everyone started calling me that. It was a nickname that became me.

How did it feel when you found out you got chosen for the inaugural season of Canada's Drag Race?

It was so amazing, and I was so excited to represent Canada. As a fan of drag race it was so amazing to have it in my country.

Your Snatch Game win doing Joan Rivers is iconic and still one of the all-time best. How did that come about?

moment was that everything was coming to a turning point, so I wanted so badly for my dreams and work and reality to align, and it did. It was so surreal. It was really rewarding and amazing.

What did you do with the $220,000?

It's in the bank. I haven't done anything with it yet. I am a smart girl, and I will pay the taxes first.

You have a partner. How long have you been together and what makes him the perfect guy for you?

Brady and I have been together for 10 years and we are perfect for each other as we compliment each other amazingly well; it was love at first sight. We are both creatives and we collaborate a lot.

Describe Jimbo in 3 words?

Love, energy, and fun

I basically was a fan of Joan rivers growing up, and I loved how brash, crazy, and funny she was. She was an amazing boundary pusher, and I was drawn to her character. I thought Joan would be perfect for Snatch Game, and I love doing her voice.

What made you go back to UK vs. The World and then go back again to All Stars 8?

I just like competing; I love doing drag and I love traveling and most of all I love Rupaul so anytime she asks me to participate, I will.

On All Stars 8, was your approach different?

Yeah, I think I learned something every time going back from the time before and from touring. I also had more experience with make-up, etc. I felt more confident and had stronger abilities.

Do you remember the feeling you had when they announced you as the winner of All Stars 8?

The feeling leading up to that

I really like to be at home organizing my house and studio. I have a collection of antiques, pots, and costumes. Although I am on the road a lot, I don't have a lot of time to organize. When I am organized, I can make more awesome-ness.

Are you excited to be touring with a Drag Queen Christmas, and what should the south Florida audience expect from the show?

I am so excited; I love touring with Murray and Peter. It's one of the best drag touring companies in the world and I love being on a bus touring the world with crazy drag queens. We celebrate drag, individuality and fun! You can expect to laugh and give yourselves over to Christmas hijinks.

I hear you have your own show coming up…Tell me more about it?

Yes, it's called Jimbo's Drag Circus. It's a show I have been working on for a really long time. It's a one queen show and it's a peak inside my mind. It's a continuation of some of the characters I introduced on Drag
