Shine Bright Like a Diamond

Joey Diamond

Performs at Hunters

“I'm relatively new to Miami, but I've gotten so much support as an artist here,” reflects Filipino pop singer Joey Diamond. “I love the vibe and the people down here and have made a lot of new friends, including Jace M!”

He and the internationally renowned DJ/producer have joined forces with a reimagining of *NSYNC favorite “Tearin' Up My Heart,” a track that Joey Diamond will debut live, October 8th at Hunter's Nightclub. We caught up with both of them in a Miami recording studio.

Were you an *NSYNC fangirl?

Joey: It's no secret that I was. Justin Timberlake was my favorite. He was the center of the band, the one who dominated. Like him, I'm the type to take the initiative in a group setting.

Jace: I, too, was definitely a fangirl of *NSYNC but more for Lance. I've met him a few times and I love his energy. I also respect his advocacy work.

Did you go into this project wanting to reintroduce the band to a new club generation?

Joey: For me, it was about reintroducing the song. I think it's timeless. What do you say to those who criticize boyband music as fluff?

Joey: Everyone is entitled to their opinion; however, if those who criticize took the time to listen to the lyrics from the boy bands, they might hear something that resonates with them.

Jace: No matter how you feel about boybands, when you hear “Tearin' Up My Heart” on the dancefloor, you are compelled to sing along. I watch from the booth and most people do!

How did you make the song your own?

Joey: By changing some words, like girl to boy. Also, we changed it to a disco house vibe and enlisted some of the best circuit DJs to put their own spin on the record! Has Lance given his stamp of approval to the track?

Jace: I don't know if he's heard it, but he did start following me and some of the remixers on Instagram so I hope he likes it!

Jace, will you be at Joey's show at Hunters? I'm not spinning but I'll be there in the crowd to support Joey!

As I have mentioned almost every year, one of the best parts of doing the Annual Spa Edition (this is year #11) are the relationships the Hotspots staff have formed with the local spa owners. Every year we look forward to seeing them and spending some quality time with their staff. In addition, we get to meet new people when new spas come on board.

Spa E South Beach 630 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach 7 days a week • 10am – 8pm 305.534.3223 • info@spaemiami.com Spaesouthbeach.com

Spa E is the award-winning day spa that has been voted the Best Day Spa in Miami Beach as well as having award-winning staff members. When you walk up to Spa E, you can see almost the entire spa from the outside and it is very inviting to the eye. The beds they use for services are unlike any bed I have ever seen in

a spa. When we walked into the spa we were immediately greeted by Brenda Le Grange, the owner of the spa, who offered us water and to take our umbrellas. We were very lucky to get the services on a day when the Executive Vice President of Repêchage, Shiri Sarfati, happened to be visiting the spa. Spa E is the exclusive home of Repechage, the pionners in seaweed-based skincare in Miami. Repechage i s in over 50 countries and is globally recognized as high quality, and is based in New Jersey where they have an R&D laboratory on site. Their main ingredient comes from sustainably harvested seaweed which is sourced and processed in the USA. Shiri's mom, Lydia Sarfati, started the company in 1980 and both Shiri and her dad still work alongside Lydia.

We were then taken to the bed and told we were going to get the 4-Layer Facial (called the 4-layer fetish at Spa E…$165), which is and has been the signature facial for Repêchage, and The Happy Feet treatment, both at the same time. Spa E is actually famous for their Menage A Spa Signature treatments where they give their clients a facial, manicure and pedicure all at the same time (You have to see the beds to understand this, but I pr omise you will love it). When I asked Brenda how this came about, she explained that she realized that in South Beach a lot of people want to be pampered, but they don't have the traditional amount of time to get all three services separately, so she came up with this idea so that her clients can maximize their time at the spa and still receive all the pampering they wanted.

The 4 Layer Facial was quoted as "The Best Facial of the Century" by Cosmopolitan UK. Layer upon layer of pure, fresh European seaweed is put on to rejuvenate, tone and firm with immediately visible results.

The facial starts with cleansing the skin with a creamy cleanser which

removes dirt and debris. This is followed by an exfoliation with a Honey and Almond scrub. Pure honey and crushed almond gently exfoliate without causing skin trauma. During the first two steps the steamer is on. After this, the C-Serum is applied. This is a pure filtrate of seaweed that contains multivitamins for the skin. This hydrates and moisturizes the skin while rebalancing and making sure your skin is even toned. This serum is massaged into your skin. This is done to stimulate skin and allow the benefits of the product to do their job. This is

followed by a massage cream with a 10minute massage on the full face and neck and even onto the shoulder area so the clients can release tension. This massage exfoliates and hydrates the skin. Afterwards, Eye Rescue pads are applied, which are soaked in 4 teas and depuffing seaweed. Then a cold mask is applied that has a gel-like consistency. This is followed by a Mineral Mask which is 101 degrees F to create a thermal effect on the skin and the heat will allow it to penetrate the skin. Once this dries the mask comes off in one piece (see pic).

While the facial was being administered by the amazing Alessia, Yenny was administering the “Happy Feet” treatment ($50). This is a foot therapy treatment that includes reflexology, exfoliation, and a foot massage. This treatment also includes a hand massage.

Can you imagine how pampered we felt when we left Spa E?

After being in business for 4 years, Christian recently had the grand opening of his new location at the Crexent Building in Fort Lauderdale. The new location is only minutes from the beach, has plenty of free parking and staffed by a friendly receptionist. It's a beautiful colonial style building with breathtaking views.

His new suite is bigger, has unique art and is cozier than his original one in Wilton Manors. Christian only focuses on massage therapy treatments and offers a choice of Swedish, Sports, Deep Tissue, or Hot Stones. This year, Christian introduced me to Sports Massage ($99hr) with a session of cupping on my upper and lower back. After 11 years of the Spa issue, this is the first time I received a cupping treatment. Before the massage started, Christian showed me

Spa Cabanas has been a part of the Spa Edition since we started 11 years ago, so naturally I am always happy to see owner Carlos Rodriguez when I step inside. Also, there is the sexiest voice in Fort Lauderdale, that always greets me, from their Manager Tony Banks. Carlos has now been the owner for 3 years and has really made Spa Cabanas a special place for wellness and

the different cup sizes, and made sure I was comfortable receiving cupping. The cup size changes depending on the area being treated.

Once he started the massage his talented hands did their magic, which included a lot of stretching and then added the cupping. The cupping suctions the skin and slowly moves the fluid from lower deeper tissues to the surface which allows the deeper tissues to have fresh circulation. This is mostly done on the back of your body as your front is more sensitive. (Christian did warn me that cupping does leave marks, but they go away in like a day, and as far as I am concerned, well worth it!).

Once again, after a Christian Perez massage, my body felt really relaxed, limber, and really good!

Christian's pricing is easy, with a simple rate of $99 for one hour or $149 for 90 minutes for all massage treatments. With this, you have the choice to personalize your massage with all the different modalities including Hot Stones, Sports, Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage.

pampering built on a strong sense of community and healing. Follow Spa Cabanas on Facebook and Instagram to see all the sexy pics he posts of his clients; trust me you won't be disappointed! I went to the Spa with Hotspots senior salesman, Anthony Verrico, for our services.

Anthony was introduced to Carlos Blanco who would be administering the deep tissue massage, infused with CBD oil. Carlos has been a Massage Therapist at the Spa for 1 year and already has an immense following due to his Eastern philosophy approach to massage and healing. Carlos intuitively recognized Anthony's problem areas and addressed his ongoing back issues and overa ll stress, which he felt immediate relief from, following his treatment. The 60min Deep Tissue CBD massage is $115, adding Hot Stones is $125.

In addition to CBD infused massages, the Spa is now offering cupping services which detoxifies the body on a deeper level as well as relieves migraines and arthritis symptoms. They've also incorporated pressure gun therapy as an add on to all the massages offered.

high frequency treatment used to minimize pores and even out the complexion tone. Finally, a mask was applied that was soothing and refreshing and made me feel quite relaxed. In addition, a relaxing antiaging eye treatment helped reduce my puffiness and fine lines. 60 minutes $129

This year Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa were thrilled to be presented with the TripAdvisors Travelers Choice award, which places them at the top 10% of hotels and spas worldwide. Quite an honor within the industry.

For my hour of pampering, I was introduced to Cristian Alvarez, who led me to his area for an Anti-Aging facial. Cristian immediately asked me what benefits I sought and when I stated how I wanted to look 10 years younger, the pressure was on. My deep cleansing and relaxing facial was perfectly customized, to rebalance and reenergize my skin type for an anti-aging result. It actively increases skin moisture, calms irritations, and minimizes expression lines. After assessing my skin needs and making an evaluation, he proceeded to cleanse and exfoliate using the Spa's amazing line of PCA products, which they also carry and sell. They remind everyone to ask about their monthly specials and packages by calling them at 954565-2307.

The Spa at Carillon Miami 6801 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach 866.276.2226 carillonhotel.com/en/wellness

The experience at the Carillon starts when you pull up to their beautiful entrance and your car is escorted away by the valet (if you are having spa treatments the cost for valet is complimentary). You then enter the exquisite lobby and head up the elevator to the Spa.

The Carillon Spa is one of the most comprehensive spas I have ever been to, offering everything from cupping to cryotherapy, and infrared saunas. Carillon Miami Wellness Resort brings a unique and comprehensive mixture of Western, Eastern, Alternative, and Aesthetic medicine for custom treatment plans and impactful results.

Due to Covid 19 they have increased their touchless services, and this is what they wanted me to focus on this year. And boy did they focus on them as I had 6 treatments (not that I am complaining at all).

When I arrived at the Spa I was greeted by the receptionist and as she escorted me to the Men's locker room and told me when I was ready she would meet me outside the Men's locker room. Once in the locker room I was given a luxurious bathrobe and slippers to change into. After changing, I was given a reminder tour of the spa and the multitude of amenities.

Afterwards, I was escorted to my first treatment, VEMI (Vibroacoustic Electro

Magnetic and Infrared Therapy - $99 for 25 minutes). I was told to lay down on a body shaping bed and given headphones to put on. Immediately the Vibro-Acoustic started, which puts you into a deep meditative state in minutes, this is when and where the body heals itself. The Electromagnetic Harmonics open cellular communication to all cells in the body and removes static EMF radiation from your cells & body. In addition, this treatment

features Infrared technology, which warms your body from the inside out creating energy reactions like moderate exercises. For those of you who know me, you know it's hard for me to relax and turn it off, but I promise you in a matter of minutes I went into a state of relaxation I am not sure I have ever experienced.

Afterwards I was taken to another room that featured the Spa Wave ($99 for 30 minutes), a bed you lay on and again headphones are put on. This is a bed for Sleep therapy that reduces stress, improves concentration, balances mood, and boosts creativity. Their state-of-the-art Quantum Harmonic Sound Therapy table combines music, gentle sound waves and highly

efficient vibration, matched to the body's energy chakras, leaving you in the ultimate state of relaxation. At the same time, I was on the table my hand was put into The AVACEN 100 ($39 for 15 minutes), which is considered the future of pain relief. My hand was placed into this futuristic looking muscle-relaxing vacuum chambered machine for 15 minutes and some really great things happened. Pain dissipates, and joints move more freely.

I was then taken to the Somadome ($99 for 20 minutes), which is an egg-shaped chair/bed you lay in. This is the world's first technology-enabled meditation pod that combines color, sound, and energy therapies to create the physical space to go within and experience the many benefits of deep meditation. There are twenty different intention-based sessions available to help you in any area of your life, and you choose the one you want. The most calming voice then comes on and talks to you, as you literally drift away. The powerful combination of color, binaural

beats, and the micro-crystalline tiles activate to help you achieve the optimal state for any of the intention-based sessions you choose. Each session is twenty minutes long, making it a perfect addition before or after your other spa services to take your experience to the next level.

The final treatment was something I have recently heard of but never experienced: Salt Float Bath Therapy ($99 – 30 minutes). This is very interesting as you go into a huge egg-shaped dome that is filled with maybe a foot of water. You are given a floatie for your head and you lean back, and you just float your stress away in a weightless saltwater bath that incorporates 800 pounds of Epsom salt. The Salt Float helps to relieve muscle pain, calm any anxieties, stimulate blood flow, release natural endorphins, and aids you entering a deep state of relaxation.

After this last treatment I could not wait to take advantage of all the amenities of the spa, which include thermal loungers, experiential rains, foot spa, Igloo, crystal steam room, Finnish spa, herbal laconium, and a vitality tub. I am sure there are amenities I missed, as this is the most amenities I have ever seen at a spa.

Ok, I am a skeptical native New Yorker (although I have been in Florida for 25 years) and if someone would have told me about these treatments beforehand, I probably would say something sarcastic, but I have to tell you I left the Carillon so relaxed and even the crazy traffic on 95 to get home didn't bother me. In addition, that night I got one of the best night's sleep ever. My body and mind were at peace!

MyBodyGrooming.com 2312 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors Call or text: 954.951.0065

I know you are reading this and saying MyBodyGrooming doesn't sound like they may offer traditional treatments that we associate with a spa, but they do. In addition to waxing, Full body trimming, manscaping and body shaving, they offer massages, facials, shaving, and body scrubs.

Angel Perez met me in the lobby of the Wilton Executive Suites, and led me back to his Spa suite, which was very serene and peaceful. Before starting the massage, he asked me if I need the rest room or some water and then explained to me that he was going to give me the 1-hour Deep Tissue Massage with stretching ($130) and confirmed I was ok with that . When I asked him what the benefits of a deep tissue massage are, he said it's to release muscle tension, and includes trigger Point Therapy: for the neck, back & Shoulder Alignment, and Range of motion/ Stretching which helps decompressing lower back and joint health. Angel has such a calming aura about him, all I could think about is that he had the perfect name. His hands and fingers are smal l but the power they have is amazing. Even though it was a deep tissue massage I never felt that there was too much pressure, which is something I never experienced

before. He had the magic touch combined with a stretching ability that made my body feel amazing. After finishing massaging my back side, he used a massage gun and then asked me to flip over and massaged my front side.

As you can tell by the pic, Angel is as good a massage therapist as he is cute. When I tell you this was one of the best massages I ever had, I am not exaggerating. When I asked Angel what his philosophy for his clients are, he said: "I am a dedicated and caring masseur with lengthy experience in a variety of relaxing bodywork modalities and techniques aimed to relax the body, the mind and promoting wellness. My number one priority is to provide my clients with an exceptional bodywork service every time!".

Some of the amenities that MyBodyGrooming.com offers are: Hot Towels, Aromatherapy, Bottled Water, Heated Table, Biotone Lotion, Free Parking, On-line Booking, Open 7 days, and Same-day appointments.

Billy Eichner Goes from Man on the Street to Movie Star

Billy Eichner, the openly gay comedian, is usually the one asking the questions. Eichner came to fame with his awardwinning, 2011-2017 truTVshow, “Billy On The Street,” where he would accost strangers on the streets of Manhattan, often with an A-list celebrity at his side. Eichner would interrupt someone in the middle of a jog, an errand, or daily commute, to ask a groan-inducing question or play a silly game. Most New Yorkers did not recognize either Eichner or celebrity sidekicks like Chris Evans, Will Ferrell, Mariah Carrey, or Sarah Jessica Parker.

The tides have turned. Eichner, in a few short years, has gone from video class clown to a polished (dare I say very good) actor, writer, and all-around mensch - and ascended to celebrity A-list status himself. In 2019, he starred as the voice of Timon in the Disney live action remake of “The Lion King.” He also voices Timon in the

66 | HotspotsMagazine.com

upcoming live-action sequel: “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

But that's not all. Currently, Eichner is writer, producer, and co-star of “Bros,” a new romantic comedy about two commitment-phobic gay guys in a relationship—Eichner and costar Luke MacFarlane. MacFarlane—who came to fame playing in schmaltzy Hallmark Channel movies— is another openly gay (not to mention very good looking) actor; indeed, all of Bros' writers, producers, and all of the lead and supporting actors (including Amanda Bearse) identify as LGBTQ (with the exceptions of director Nicolas Stoller and producer Judd Apatow.) “Bros” is the first 'almost' all gay, lesbian or trans major motion picture.

“My day hasn't even begun,” says Eichner who has just arrived in San Francisco, and where it's the ungodly hour of 7:45 a.m. He's just back from the Toronto International Film Festival, where “Bros” debuted to great acclaim.

“The goal was to make the funniest, laugh-out-loud movie as possible, that just happens to be about a gay couple,” explains Eichner. At forty-four, he is old enough to remember growing up during a time when gay themed movies had limited releases and smallish audiences. “I went to see a lot of them,” Eichner recalls. “'All Over the Guy', 'Jeffrey,' 'Trick,' 'Edge of Seventeen,' 'Go.' But it felt like it was something I did in private. It felt like it did when I was hiding a magazine [for secrecy at home].”

“Bros” is written for contemporary audiences —straight, gay, and everything in between (my words) —who are unfazed by scenes and situations that would have seemed controversial even ten years ago. And, given the talent behind the project and the early buzz, “Bros” could be the first gay romcom to become a mainstream box office smash.

Particularly with director Nicolas Stoller and producer Judd Apatow on board. “'The 40-Year-Old Virgin,' 'Bridesmaids,' 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' 'Neighbors….Judd and/or Nick are responsible for some of the funniest movies during the past two decades,” Eichner enthuses.

One of the most charming aspects of “Bros” is a pivotal scene filmed in Provincetown, MA, a community with deep

“The goal was to make the funniest, laugh-outloud movie as possible, that just happens to be about a gay couple.”

“Being able to film in Provincetown added so much style to the classical romantic story. The town has a rich, gay history but is beautiful, sexy, and fun. It is so welcoming to everyone that Nick [Stoller, the director], who is straight, and married with three kids, takes his family there every summer...”

gay roots. “Provincetown is maybe my favorite place on earth,” says Eichner. “It's as far out on Cape Cod, Massachusetts as you can get. Being able to film in Provincetown added so much style to the classical romantic story. The town has a rich, gay history but is beautiful, sexy, and fun. It is so welcoming to everyone that Nick [Stoller, the director], who is straight, and married with three kids, takes his family there every summer. Iti is also the first place that we began filming.” The production was shut down in between filming for over a year and a half due to Covid-19.

Is there any romance going on in Eichner's life? When I asked him for a funny story about a first date, he laughed and said, “I'm still waiting to go on one. But, seriously, I met a guy that worked for a cannabis company. He showed up as high as he could be. And of course he was hungry. I should have just called it a night then. But we went out and all he could do was eat. There wasn't any conversation. But I don't know if that is funny, or just weird.”

There's a musical moment in “Bros” that may surprise some Eichner fans—but shouldn't; he's a great singer and studied musical theater in college. His love of music predates his bar mitzvah , which he describes as “Broadway meets Pop Music…I had a life-sized, airbrushed Madonna standee from her 'Blonde Ambition' tour. And a standee from [the Broadway musical] 'The Phantom of the Opera'. I even sang 'Lean On Me.'”

Eichner's singing talents are displayed in "Bros", but very briefly. “I don't want people to think 'Bros' is a musical, though,” Eichner wants readers to know. And let me add my two cents: “Bros” is not a musical, at all. It is a comedy that is going to go down in history, in a great way.

“BROS” is in theaters September 30!

Kristine

W Flies Again with Inspiring New Club Single

Kristine W is riding dance floors full speed ahead this season with her new single, “Can't Look Back”, the first release from her upcoming album. Produced by James Hurr, one of the masters of UK House, the song is a lush, soulful club groove, made even more powerful with its message of rising up and appreciating the day. It was inspired by the passings of Kristine's mother and sister. She says she found solace through writing the song and hopes by sharing “Can't Look Back” now with the world that it helps those experiencing similar loss to move forward too.

You have faced some big personal challenges these past last few years.

My older sister Viki passed away from colon cancer two years ago. None of the family could believe that she died from a cancer that was treatable. I was grieving my sister and trying to be there for my mom, but I intuitively knew that she was not going to survive the loss of her oldest daughter and best friend. Mom passed away due to complications from a stroke last year. These two angels were always on either side of me cheering me on. It has been very difficult staying motivated without them. I can't believe they are both gone. Somedays, I experience a crippling grief. At shows, I have had the opportunity to interact with others experiencing similar loss. We hug and cry together over our lost ones. Thankfully I am blessed with my music. It has been a lifeline. What have you learned about yourself and your ability to overcome obstacles? I have learned that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. I try to be brave and remember how much my mother

80 | HotspotsMagazine.com

and sister contributed to my success. I owe it to them to push forward. When did you begin the work on "Can't Look Back”?

Tony (Moran) sent me the first draft of the track two years ago. It was very sparse at the time, but I could tell that it had a magic to it. I started playing around with it, writing and rewriting. Tony didn't like the first verse melody I presented to him, but he loved the chorus, so I kept working on making the verses stronger and the lyrics more relevant. I then met with my collaborator, Mark Matson, to record the first vocal demo. It was pretty good but not perfect. We let the song marinate for a few months before giving it a second look. The last part we recorded was the “rise up” section. When I looked up from my congas and saw the look on my engineer's face, I knew that we had made something special.

Does the song serve as a prelude to what's in store for your next album?

This song has a message that everyone needs to hear. I know listening to it during its many rewrites helped me get through some rough days. There was a reason Tony sent me that simple blank canvas. I feel like this song and others on the upcoming album are good medicine. We have all been through some traumatic challenges these past few years and it's important that we do not let the pain defeat or define us. It's natural and healthy to look back and reflect every oncein-a-while but we can't live in the past. We need to keep pressing on.

Kristine W's “Can't Look Back” is available now on all digital retailers via Kristine's own imprint, Fly Again Music Productions. For more information, visit kristinew.com

In 2022, Blackout 27 will be hosted by Onyx Deep South, Inc (ODS), a 501(c)(3) charity promoting education and welfare for people of color who identify as male within the LGBTQ+ community from October 6-10 in Fort Lauderdale. Onyx Deep South envisions a world where people are ensured equality and equity regardless of sexual identity, age, race, gender, ethnicity, culture, ability, and experiences.

94 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Blackout is open to everyone – They welcome not only their members but their friends, allies, and supporters and anyone who's willing to embrace them, literally anyone, regardless of race, gender expression, sexuality, age, or other demographics. For a beautiful, if brief, moment every two years, Blackout creates and sustains a space where racism, transphobia, misogyny, and other forms of discrimination do not exist.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Stephen and Pusckatt from Onyx Deep South for this exclusive Hotspots Interview:

How and when did ONYX Start and when did ONYX Deep South begin?

Pusckatt - ONYX is an organization formed and operated by BIPOC Men who enjoy the leather and/or kink lifestyle. Founded in 1995, ONYX looks to provide education and serve as a bridge for BIPOC Men to the greater Leather community. The founding fathers of ONYX were: Mufasa, David M., Steve B., Nate G. and Wes G. The ONYX Deep South chapter is centered in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area and covers the entire state of Florida as well as the Caribbean. In early 2017, a small group of

men in the Fort Lauderdale area held a meet and greet with the intention of forming an ONYX chapter in South Florida. It was their goal to not only create safe spaces for the BIPOC LGBTQ+ community, but also positive representation. As a result of their hard work and dedication, the ONYX Deep South chapter was ratified by vote in September 2017 at BlackOut 22 in New Orleans, LA. How and when did each of you become involved in ONYX Deep South?

Stephen - Steve known as Daddy Steve or MagicMan was a founding member of Onyx in Chicago as well as a founding member of Deep South

Pusckatt - I became involved in ONYX Deep South in 2019. Since my involvement I held positions as Road Captain and currently the President of ONYX.

At what part of ONYX's history did Blackout start?

Stephen - The 1st Blackout was our 1yr anniversary weekend that included a dance and a brunch the next day. It has grown from there adding more events and is now held Bi-annually. It moves around the country hosted by different chapters. How excited are you guys that Blackout 27 will

HotspotsMagazine.com | 95

be right here in our backyard of South Florida?

Stephen - Deep South is one of the newest chapters and is extremely excited and honored to welcome our members and friends from everywhere to our home base here in Fort Lauderdale. We want to showcase all that makes this area a destination and an ideal home for an Onyx chapter.

Pusckatt - Words cannot express how delighted we are to host Blackout XXVII here in Fort Lauderdale. The past few years hav e been depressing. We have witnessed countless acts of violence that have taken the lives of our siblings. We have endured a pandemic that shut the world down and robbed us of our ability to have that human connection we desperately crave. But here, we are safe. We get the chance to show our ONYX family how wonderful our local community is.

Is there a lot of pressure on the two of you to produce a successful weekend?

Pusckatt - It takes teamwork to produce a successful event this size. The entire ONYX Deep South membership has worked diligently to ensure a successful weekend. There is always a certain amount of pressure, but the ODS membership has shared with the lift of production, which minimizes the stress. There are many parts of the Blackout weekend including ONYX University, The Brotherhood Awards/Recognition Brunch, The Annual General Meeting for Full Brothers, The Bar Crawl. Can you explain what each of these entails?

Pusckatt - There is a list of events over the weekend. The opening party will be at Eagle Wilton Manors ONYX Deep South home bar. The event is named Leather, Lace & Lace Ball. This Fetish theme event would include a night of dancing and entertainment. Then we have the ONYX U on Saturday. ONYX U allows participants to attend educational workshops around leather/kink/BDSMrelated topics. We will have our Bi-annual General Meeting/ Awards/Recognition Brunch for ONYX members on Sunday. During this time, we discussed ONYX

business and recognized the hard work members from all nine chapters are doing.

You have added an event this year: “Kink, Cocktails and Cruising,” tell me more about this event?

Stephen - This is our Saturday night Yacht Party. We want to feature one of our exciting local experiences that caused Fort Lauderdale to be called the Venice of the Americas. This is a Blackout event that is

unique to us and will make our weekend memorable.

You are both very passionate about this organization, tell our community why?

Stephen - As a gay Black man who is also interested in exploring leather Onyx is there as a network of support. My personal beliefs are consistent with the mission of the organization. Having a brotherhood and an organization that has a motto to Educate-Explore and Empower is priceless Pusckatt - Yes, you are correct. ONYX has been committed to volunteerism, community service, and charitable contributions in support of an array of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other community organizations. ODS has a longstanding reputation within our community for promoting respect, inclusivity, diversity, and safe spaces for all people to gather.

BROADEN YOUR DIMENSIONS:

WORKING OUT SHOULDERS

A crucial muscle group that you should never neglect or train haphazardly, are the deltoids, or what some call the shoulder muscles. The deltoid area consists of the anterior, mid, and posterior portions of the muscle. Well-developed deltoids resemble canon-balls, and they add broadness and dimension to your upper physique. Because of their size and

difficult location, you need a variety of specialized exercises in order to develop them. Also, the stronger your deltoids are, the more protected and the less stress you will place upon those deeper rotator cuff muscles when you push, pull, or reach.

Here are five weight training exercises for deltoids. Try a combination of 3 or 4 of these moves and do them in 3- 4 sets of eight to

112 | HotspotsMagazine.com

twelve repetitions with every shoulder workout. Train shoulders on their own separate day or you can combine them with just about any other muscle group!

1. Seated dumbbell presses are great for front and mid deltoids as well as for traps and triceps. Sit on a bench with your back straight. Grasp two dumbbells with an overhand grip and lift them to your shoulders, palms facing forward. Inhale and press your arms to an extended overhead position. Exhale as you lower them back to your shoulders.

2. Side raises are great for the mid deltoids, and they help you to achieve a broader look to the upper body. Stand with your feet slightly spread. Keep your back straight, your arms hanging at your sides. Holding a dumbbell in each hand, raise the dumbbells to shoulder height, keeping your elbows slightly bent. Return to your sides. You can also do this exercise seated on a bench with your back straight and simply raise the dumbbells to your sides as if you were standing. Doing these exercises in a

seated position helps you to isolate the side deltoids better.

3. Front raises are superlative for the front and rear deltoids. Stand with your feet slightly apart. Hold the dumbbells with your palms down (overhand grip). Resting the dumbbells on your thighs or slightly to the side, raise the dumbbells forward to shoulder height alternating each side.

4. Bent over lateral raises are great for the overall shoulder, but especially for the rear deltoids and upper back. Stand with your feet spread apart and your knees slightly bent. Bend forward at the waist and keep your back straight. Hold the dumbbells with your elbows slightly bent. Inhale and raise the dumbbells to your sides. Exhale as you complete the movement.

5. The upright row is another exercise for the mid and rear deltoids. Holding a weighted bar in front of you with an overhand grip, pull it to your chin while keeping your elbows above the bar. Keep the bar close to your body.

In the coming weeks look for a variety of columns on working out the various muscle groups of the body. Make this Fall a banner time to beef up your exercise program before the holiday onslaught!
