Johnny McGovern & Greg McKeon Search for America’s Champion Go-Go Boy in Out TV’s

“GoGo For The Gold” Episode 1 By Scott Holland

Everyone's favorite Hey Qween host Jonny McGovern and his bestie, GoGo veteran Greg McKeon are on the hunt for America's next champion GoGo superstar star in OUTtv's hilarious new competition series, GoGo For the Gold. “The queer community has spent the last decade celebrating the queens on Drag 72 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Race, but the other stars of the gay club are the GoGo boys,” says McGovern. “They, too, serve the looks with tons of personality and style and they never hold back on the drama. We're crowning America's #1 champion GoGo superstar star … and the competition will be fierce!” GoGo For the Gold co-creators McGovern

also influencers, fashion models, and nightlife representatives. As contestants on GoGo For the Gold, their journey will be packed with humor, dramatic twists, and tongue-in-cheek fun. There may even be some tears shed along the way. Judging the boys will be the “GoGo Gods,” headed by supreme GoGo veteran Greg McKeon along with JoJo Guadz, Teddy Bear, and Adrian Hart. Each judge scores based on four important criteria: Fantasy, Body, Dance and Individuality. One or more GoGos are eliminated each week until the final strip down when GOGO FOR THE GOLD crowns its STUD — super talented underwear dancer — and officially proclaims him as 'America's #1 Champion GoGo Superstar Star '. We are then introduced to the 12 Go-Go boys competing for the title and Jonny tells us that they will have a dance-off, where they will have one song to show the judges why they are special, before the judges decides the bottom 4 who will all go home. After the dance off the bottom 4 are: Paulo, Gamma, Beef and Zaddy. It was a pleasure to sit down with each of them for these exclusive Hotspots interviews.

PAULO

and McKeon have assembled a diverse cast of GoGos that encompass a wide range of body types from traditional masculine hunks to thick 'n juicy bears, smooth twinks and even femme dancers who serve it up in heels. One of the contestants is a trans man. All are competing for a $10k cash prize. To win, they must undergo a series of challenges that comprise the many facets of being a champion GoGo. Being a skillful dancer is pivotal, of course, but GoGo boys are

At what age did you know you were Trans and when did you start transitioning? I knew I was trans at the age of 18 after I went to my first gay youth conference after graduating High School. I didn't start my transitioning until I was 24 due to my unsafe surroundings. Once I moved to a place where I had support, I

“I consider myself a mystical creature because everyone thinks I am lying when I tell them I am trans.” HotspotsMagazine.com | 73

knew I would be ok to start the transition. For starting in your 20's, there is nothing feminine about you. How did you accomplish that? From the age of 20 I started bodybuilding, and I think 4 years of changing my physique gave me an advantage once I start hormone therapy. It all fell into place the way it should have! How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I started Go-Go dancing when I lived in Florida 2 years post transitioning, around the age of 26. My friend, Alexis DeLaMar, helped me at the Suncoast Resort and then I got invited to all the other bars she worked at. Once I moved to San Diego I applied at the bars, and everyone started hiring me. I recently moved to Chicago, and I will start up again. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? Oh god, I consider myself a mystical creature because everyone thinks I am lying when I tell them I am trans. Muscle and body building has always been my Genre so Mystical Muscle seemed right. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for?

Honestly the thing that people like the most is my leather looks. Leather Jocks seem to be the most popular. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” When Johnny hit me up, I was super excited. I thought it would be a great impact for the Trans community. Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win and why? Honestly its between AJ and Brant as they both had great energy. Brannt would break the boundaries, so I may be rooting for him a drop more. But they are both beautiful souls. What does the future hold for you? I am enlisting in the navy soon, and I am currently working on a Navy base. However, I will always be Go-Go (ing) on the side. For more information on Paulo, follow him on Q /FTMuscle

“I wanted to choose a name that represented me and make me laugh...” How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been go-go dancing for 6 years and I got into it as my ex-boyfriend was a Gogo and he wanted me to pursue it. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? My name comes from me loving burritos and me having a lot of beef on me. I wanted to choose a name that represented me and make me laugh…oh yeah and something to make people want to eat me.

BEEF 74 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? Yes, I have a move it’s an upside-down ass twerk where I put my feet up against the wall and I shake my ass and let it rip. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” I was so excited I immediately got on a face time call with 7 friends and did a costume party to see what I was going to wear on the show.

Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win and why? I really want Rico to win as I feel he is the best dancer and has a great personality and when you combine that with his looks he came to slay! What does the future hold for you? Its only just beginning! I have so many things I want to do now as this experience has opened so many more doors for me. For more information on Beef, follow him on Q /thebeefburrito

“Every guy in there deserves to win as they are all talented and great human beings.” GAMMA How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I Go-Go danced for about 6 years and I stopped in 2017. I started back in college when I was broke, and wild. I needed the extra cash, but I was skeptical. However, I enjoyed it and kept going. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? It's my actual name that everyone calls me since I was a little kid. My real name is Gamaliel, and everyone just calls me Gamma. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? No, not really, but my style is being myself. How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the

inaugural season of “Go-Go For the Gold?” Honestly it was mixed emotions, but since I had worked with Johnny before it got me more excited. Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win and why? Every guy in there deserves to win as they are all talented and great human beings. But I was only on the show briefly so it's hard for me to pick a winner. What does the future hold for you? I don't even know; I am just going with the flow. I just live life and enjoy my family and friends. For more information on Gamma, follow him Q /GammaBaez HotspotsMagazine.com | 75

ZADDY How long have you been Go-Go dancing and how did you get into it? I have been Go-Go dancing for 12 years, as I started when I was 18. It's a job I love, and I got into it as there was a local pizzeria that was starting a gay night that needed Go-Go's, and I loved it and started working all over Go-Go dancing. I moved to LA about a year ago and my career has been skyrocketing. I am so glad I have this opportunity to do what I love. How did you pick your Go-Go Boy name? The name Zaddy was an alias I went by on social media, and it picked up popularity and it stuck with me. Do you have a move you are famous for or anything you are famous for? My signature dance is the Zaddy meat shuffle. When you see it you will know what it is! How excited were you when you found out you had been chosen for the inaugural season of “GoGo For the Gold?” I was thrilled as it felt like a dream come true beyond words. I shed a couple tears of joy and my family, who fully accepts me, were also super excited. Now that you have been eliminated, who do you want to win and why? I want Ken to win, as he has a heart of gold, and his dance moves are on point. He always puts on a good show and is super professional and has such good energy. What does the future hold for you? I would like to have my own night at a bar and maybe have my own group of Go-Go dancing boys. I would also like to do a Zaddy Underwear line. Is there anything I didn't ask you that you want to talk about?

76 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Yes, I hope people get to see that anyone can be a Go-Go dancer. You don't have to have a specific body type as we all serve our own flavors. I am a body positive person and I see sexy in every body type. For more information on Zaddy, follow him on /// Q/GoGoZaddy

Jesus Christ Superstar

Comes to the Arsht Center May 31-June 5 By Scott Holland

92 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Following critically acclaimed, sold-out engagements in the UK, the reimagined 50th Anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar will make its anticipated Miami premiere at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County from May 31 – June 5, 2022. This 2017 Olivier awarding-winning production from Regent's Park Open Air Theatre features a stellar cast including Miami natives Courtney Arango (Dance Captain, Swing) and David Andre (Ensemble) along with University of Miami alums and Florida natives Omar Lopez-Cepero (Judas) and Jenna Rubaii (Mary). Jesus Christ Superstar continues the 15th anniversary season of Broadway in Miami. The Broadway in Miami season is presented by Florida Theatrical Association with presenting sponsor Bank of America in association with the Adrienne Arsht Center along with support from Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Aaron LaVigne leads the show as Jesus, joined by Jenna Rubaii as Mary. Omar Lopez-Cepero joins the cast as Judas. The

“Jesus & Judas had to be the best of friends for the betrayal to be as devastating as it was, and is every night on stage.” <<<<<< Omar Lopez-Cepero tour also features Alvin Crawford as Caiphas, Tommy Sherlock as Pilate, and Tyce Green as Annas. Pepe Nufrio returns to the tour as the standby for Jesus and Judas. The ensemble includes David Andre, Courtney Arango, Giuliana Augello, Wesley J. Barnes, Lydia Ruth Dawson, Hope Easterbrook, Derek Ferguson, Brian Golub, Brittany Rose Hammond, Garfield Hammonds, Quiana Holmes, Darrell T. Joe, Sheila Jones, Jacob Lacopo, Paul Louis Lessard, Eric A. Lewis, Tommy McDowell, Danny McHugh, Jenny Mollet, Sarah Parker, Erick Patrick, SandyRedd, and Cooper Stanton. Featuring lyrics and music by Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar and Tony winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the North

American tour of this iconic musical is helmed by acclaimed director Timothy Sheader and cutting-edge choreographer Drew McOnie. Rounding out the creative team is set and costume design by 2016 Tony Award nominee Tom Scutt, lighting design by Lee Curran, sound design by Keith Caggiano and Nick Lidster, with music supervision by Tom Deering and North American music supervisor David Holcenberg. Jesus Christ Superstar is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Gethsemane' and 'Superstar'. It was a pleasure to sit down with University of Miami Alum Omar LopezCepero (Judas) for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did you begin performing? I always kind of had a love for music, but I was introduced to theater and music in HotspotsMagazine.com | 93

middle school and high school. Before that I was much more of an athlete. It kind of found me and I have to give credit to my public-school teachers who saw that I had some talent and cultivated that. What was your first paid gig? After college, I wanted to go to New York. However, I wanted to do it with some money so I wouldn't have the hassle of worrying about paying rent and I could focus on auditioning. Therefore, I got a job at Royale Caribbean on a cruise ship and saved up lots of money. That was my first paid gig in entertainment. When did you know performing would be your career? Probably in my senior year in high school. I was just going to apply to colleges and my teachers convinced me to audition for schools and I got a full scholarship as a musical theater major. That's when I knew this was my career path. Other than this show, what has been your favorite show or role so far? One that will always stick with me was “On Your Feet.” I was in the tour when it played in Miami, which was very special to me. Most recently I got to play opposite my wife who played Gloria. 94 | HotspotsMagazine.com

Speaking of your wife, how do you handle being on the road and not being together a lot? I will be honest with you, it's very difficult. We both love what we do, and we are very grateful for it, but its not easy. My wife is working in Moulin Rouge on Broadway right now. This is part of the sacrifices that comes with a career in the arts. What's your fantasy role (a role you haven't played but want to)? I would say Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. However, the thing that attracted me to musical theater is the creative process. So, to be part of a new show that is created from the ground up is really the dream. What did you and your wife do/accomplish during the Quarantine part of the pandemic? We moved to Atlanta for a year and a half to explore the TV and film scene there as they were coming back sooner than theater was.

We perfected self-tape auditions. We also got to spend a lot of time with my family. Is there additional pressure performing in this show since it's so iconic? Absolutely as the music has been around for 50 years, and the story everyone knows, it's the last 10 days of Jesus' life. Since the story is told through Judas's eye, there is a lot of pressure. In addition, many famous actors have played this Judas. However, it's an honor and a pleasure to play every performance. Describe yourself in 3 words? Competitive, caring, and optimistic What do you do for fun? I am a big golfer, it's my rest and mind cleanse. It also scratches my competitiveness. What's the best and worst things about being on the road? The best part is getting to see different cities and share art and theater with different cities around the country. The hardest part is being away from your family and living out of a hotel. What should our readers expect from this touring company of “Jesus Christ Superstar”? I think what's special about this production, is it really leads with the music first. The director wanted to highlight the music, and he did. Audiences that are Theater lovers will love this and non-theater lovers will appreciate the rock concert experience. It

bridges the gap between theatrical and concert experience. Another great thing about this production is that Aaron, who plays Jesus, has been a close friend of mine for 12 years. He was a groomsman in my wedding. So having this previous relationship helps tell the story for the relationship we tell on stage. Jesus & Judas had to be the best of friends for the betrayal to be as devastating as it was, and is every night on stage. >> For more information on Omar, go to: Instagram.com/omarlopezcepero or visit his website at omarlopezcepero.com. Tickets to Jesus Christ Superstar are $35, $50, $70, $90 and $130* and may be purchased now at the Adrienne Arsht Center box office by calling (305) 9496722, or online at archtcenter.org. TRAIN HARD, GET RESULTS

BUT DON'T OVERDO IT! In order to build mass and increase strength, you've got to train hard and go heavy. In addition, you need a periodized training schedule whereby muscle groups are worked to exhaustion using different and varying movements. All this requires effort, sweat and enthusiasm. There's nothing like seeing and feeling those results to spur you on to greater success! While there are lots of “ups” that go with weight training (bigger muscles, that endorphin pump, super- man strength, 102 | HotspotsMagazine.com

improved self-esteem, etc.), there is also a downside. There are those occasional plateaus, where you just can't seem to grow no matter how hard you work. There is the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) that kicks your butt when you tackle a new training regime. All these are common complaints of those who work out religiously, and all can be overcome with time, patience and rest. If you're always sore, your joints ache, you can't sleep at night, and you feel an overall malaise about going to the gym, you may be

over training. This can prove to be a more serious matter than the issues discussed above. Overdoing it to the point of severe exhaustion, even risking injuries, is a common and serious problem which all fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders must address when it occurs, before it beats them. There are some common symptoms that indicate that you just may be overtraining: 1. Muscle and joint pain which persists for more than two or three days without showing improvement 2. Elevated heart rate that continues and causes you agitation even after you have finished working out 3. Loss of appetite 4. Difficulty being able to fall asleep and or interrupted, poor sleep patterns 5. A compromised immune system that causes you to suffer from, headaches, catch colds and other infections, loss of weight and even depression which causes you to withdraw from the gym and other social situations that you used to enjoy 6. Weakened and compromised tendons and reduced muscle strength, all of which make you a prime candidate for muscle sprains and strains Exercise is supposed to enhance your quality of life. When it controls your thought processes, causing you to overtrain or train foolishly disregarding the

need for rest and proper exercise form, then you need to take a break. There are some important measures you should take if you feel like you may be overtraining. First, take an exercise break, allowing your body to rest and heal for a few days or even weeks. Secondly, seek medical attention for any muscle or joint pain that has persisted over time. Never ignore pain; it is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Finally, if you can't take a complete break, pull back on your exercise routine by varying your intensity, taking time to warm up, stretch, drink water and cool down after your session. Exercise is beneficial to your health and longevity. Enjoy the results and the attention it garners you. Just be sure not to overdo it by risking illness and injury which are counter productive to your goals and dreams!

By Andreus Quinones

Dear Andreus, I am dating someone who lives in another part of the state. We have met before and hit it off really well, but I have some concerns. He is a webcam model and is constantly interacting with people as part of his job. He tells me that I have nothing to worry about because it is only business, but I don't know what “business” involves in its entirety. I am very traditional, and although he lives 200 miles away, if we are going to be together, I would rather he not be intimate with anyone else. I am hesitant about saying anything though because I don't want to lose him. Any ideas? Sincerely, Sammy P. Dear Sammy, Long distance is never easy, but if you are going to attempt to date someone who is far away, you need to discuss expectations with one another. Given the nature of his profession, intimacy with others might come with the territory. You need to ask questions and decide whether or not you can accept the possible answers to those questions. If you are looking for a traditional relationship, then maybe you need to be with someone with a more traditional job. Otherwise, you need to come to an agreement on what can work for you both, or just be friends. Just have the conversation… it could turn out better than you think. Dear Andreus, Lately, I have been feeling like addressing something that I have kept hidden for so long. I have always felt like I was female, and ironically, I have always been told 126 | HotspotsMagazine.com

“ If you are looking for a traditional relationship, then maybe you need to be with someone with a more traditional job. Otherwise, you need to come to an agreement on what can work for you both...” that I have soft features. I grew up in a very religious family. My family is Latino and very closed-minded. I dare not ever have expressed myself growing up and was forced into living a very machismo kind of life. When I did decide to come out and presented my partner to my family, I was met with a lot of resistance. My family has slowly come around, but I know deep inside, that I am transgender. I have been seeing a therapist and want to take the steps to transition to a woman. I am just so afraid of how my family will react, and if they will reject me. What should I do? Sincerely, Johnnie S. Dear Johnnie, Before I tell you anything else, my advice to you is – LIVE YOUR TRUTH! You will never be happy if you spend your life worrying about what other people think. The choices that you make that will lead to your happiness, should be of the utmost importance. The people who really love and care for you will stay, and for those who leave – well, that tells you just about everything. It is always going to be impossible to please everyone, therefore, that should never be your focus. Be you, be happy, and do it as you see fit! Best of luck on your new journey.
