Moving Forward

Whether you agree or not with the results of the stunning upset by Donald Trump, the will of the people has spoken and democracy reigns supreme in America. Of course, this is potentially a very hard blow to the progress we have made under President Obama's administration but we must maintain our resolve with our ongoing struggle for equal rights. Now, more than ever in recent memory, we must stand firm and move forward as a united community. Every major win in life has have had to overcome obstacles and setbacks, it's the fight that keeps us strong and you can't win every one of them. This loss is one of those setbacks that will only serve to make us stronger in the long run. As the proud voice of the LGBT community for more than 30 years, our task at Hotspots Media Group is even more clear. We suck it up, stand tall and proud knowing we will carry on, flying the rainbow flag supporting our businesses and our community. - Peter Clark, Publisher Hotpots Media Group

The results of the election may seem very ominous for our community, but in spite of the loss, I will continue to fight for equality. I will still speak to strangers, I will not let the fear drive away my smile, and I will continue to give love to all I meet, even when the going gets tough. After all, that's when our true character shines. No matter what, we are stronger together and that message is not just empty words. The wind is in our face, but we have to take the loss, pick ourselves up, dust our shoulders off and put one foot in front of the other, just like we have done every day for our entire lives. We have known adversity before, so it is nothing new. I can't wait to see who fate smiles upon to lead our community out of this dark time. My mind conjures images of our brave hero Harvey Milk, of people like Congressman Barney Frank, and all those souls who fought so hard to bring us light in the dark. In the words of the goddess Gloria Gaynor "oh no not I, I will survive!” -Ian Maloney, Editor Hotspots

Like many of you I am disappointed at the election outcome. First, thank you all who voted and took part in this election process. Next remember that our system of government is a system of checks and balances that you as citizens assure it lives up to our constitution. In other words the door to Equality does not stop at any one election. Your involvement is just as important now as it was before. Hillary won the popular vote. Like her we need to accept the outcome of this election with grace. As a man who has fought for social justice and human right for almost fifty years, I've lives through Nixon, Reagan and George W. Bush Administrations and even then we made inroads. Thank you Sec. Clinton and President Obama for your leadership but know that our walk towards equality continues, and needs all of you more than ever working united for a more inclusive America. - Mark Segal, Publisher Philadelphia Gay News

Hillary wins the popular vote. Despite the outcome, more Americans actually chose compassion, intelligence, and experience. Let's start there. - Brad Wollack, Comidian Twitter post:

We do what we have always done. This is not new. We had a respite for 8 years. Now, we return to what we have always done. We get loud, we fight, we carry on, we take care of each other. This isn't the first time we've seen this. We lived through Nixon, Reagan and 2 Bushes. We will endure this. This is not new. It's uglier and louder. Which means we must be that much more present, active and fierce. Right now, in this moment, right here, we do what we need to do to nourish our souls, fortify our strength and get ready to do what we have always done - THRIVE in the face of adversity. I will not engage in the hate. I will not mourn in public. I will not thrash about. I will get quiet (momentarily) and love my community and the souls around me. I will gather my strength and focus my mind on the tasks ahead, for they will be plenty. - Wilson Cruz, gay actor/activist Facebook

Pedaling for a cause his year marks the 13th consecutive SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride) from Miami to Key West. SMART Ride started in November of 2003 with the goal of raising money for HIV and AIDS related services. The idea was to produce a 2-day, 165 mile bicycle ride and guarantee that 100% of every penny raised by the riders and crew would be returned to communities around Florida. Since 2003 riders have raised over $7.3 Million dollars. On November 18th & 19th the SMART Ride 2016 will take place, and like the very first event, every penny raised by the participants will go to assist with education, prevention, and care for those affected, infected or at risk for HIV and AIDS in Florida.” SMART Ride principally benefits the following 7 agencies. AIDS Help in Monroe County, Pridelines in Miami, Broward House and Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Broward County, Compass GLCC in Palm Beach, Miracle of Love in Orlando and Mero Wellness and Community Centers in Tampa/St Pete. It is amazing to see so many amazing people come together once a year for a common cause, to help humanity. “It's a selfless act in so many ways” Weinzimer says. “Think about it,

T

each rider raises a minimum of $1250 to help others, that's pretty remarkable.” This year's SMART Ride will leave from the University of Miami. “It was such an easy decision”, Weinzmer continued, “not only is the campus beautiful, but it represents one of the groups most significantly impacted and picking up the virus- youth ages 16-24. This age group didn't live through the worst of the pandemic and in many ways doesn't understand that there is still NO cure for AIDS. People still die, get sick, and grow immune to medications. Having a presence on the campus and helping raise dialogue is always a good thing. This year over 700 riders and crew will make this journey. Over 24 states will be represented on the ride, with riders from California, NY, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas, and the list goes on. Each participant pays a registration fee of $95, which covers their housing on Friday evening and their food over the event. The remainder of expenses is covered by in-kind or financial donations.

If you would like to be more involved participate in SMART Ride 14 next November 18th & 19th, 2017, you can visit their website at www.thesmartride.org or at info@thesmartride.org . Help us help others by helping make a difference!

R

onnie Larsen presents a Tim Evanicki production of Naked Boys Singing at the Empire Stage Theater until December 4th. Six sexy hunks display all of their charms as they celebrate the splendors of male nudity in comedy, song and dance. This sensational revue features 16 original songs, from the sassy opening number, "Gratuitous Nudity" to the hilarious "Bliss of a Bris." Naked Boys Singing, which made its triumphant return to off-Broadway last year, has been hailed by audiences and critics alike as a surefire crowd pleaser for anyone who appreciates the male form, a good laugh and great music. Take in all the splendor of Naked Boys Singing! I was lucky enough to be invited to the Press opening and got to see these six talented performers in all their glory. Although they were all good entertainers, and a pleasure to watch, there was one who stood out as he had so much stage presence I couldn't keep my eyes off of him every time he was on stage (and

no, not for that reason….although…!). The actors name was Anthony Massarotto, and it was a pleasure to sit down with Anthony for this exclusive Hotspots Interview.

When did you know you wanted to be a performer? I knew since I was 12 years old when I was the lead in a production of Oliver in Charleston South Carolina. That's where I grew up.

What was your first paid role? My first professional out of college role was Pompadour the musical at The Broward Stage Door in Coral Springs.

How did you get the part in Naked Boys Singing? I saw an audition notice on Backstage.com and submitted for an appointment. I went to the general auditions in New York and received an immediate call back……and then I had a few more call backs before I was offered the part.

Was the nakedness intimidating, and if so how did you get over it? Yes, it was a little intimidating but nudity on stage was a bucket list item of mine as it's

<< Anthony Massarotto

thrilling and liberating as an actor. The call back was so laid back, and from then on it just became easier and easier for all of us. Is getting “excited” on stage an issue for any of the guys, and if so what do you do? It isn't something we have had to deal with yet, but we do have a plan if it happens….get off stage quick and deal with it and get back on stage. Hopefully it will never happen in a solo.

have been together 8 months. We met doing Pompadour. While it may not have been love at first sight for both of us, we grew very close throughout the production and started dating shortly after the show closed.

Howdoesyourfamilydealwithyoubeingnakedonstage?

Which one of the cast is he?

My family is super liberal and they were totally supportive. My Mom told me “I'm proud of you and I love you, but please don't do porn.” They also informed me that they are not going to see the show…..thank god! Because you sing my favorite song from the show, “Perky Little P*rn Star,” I must ask you have you ever done Adult Male Films and are you Jewish? (Only people who have seen the show will understand this) No and No. But I get identified as Jewish a lot.

I don't want to answer that question, as I would rather your audience come see the show and see if they can figure it out.

What is your ultimate role? I have a lot….one of my dream roles would be Marius in Les Miserables, or any character in Miss Saigon. I would be happy to be in any musical that has a big sweeping score. I was trained classically, so I love grand sounding musicals.

Are you single, in a relationship, etc? My boyfriend is in the cast with me, and we

What should the Fort Lauderdale audience expect from this production of Naked Boys Singing and how does it, if at all, differ from the original production? I think that audiences can expect a younger fresher take from this production. In this production everyone is in their early to mid 20's. There are some new songs in this production, and the show was also slightly updated from the original production to add modern references.

Naked Boys Singing is playing at the Empire Stage Theater (1140 N. Flagler Drive/ Ft. Lauderdale) Thursday through Sundays until December 4th. For tickets or more info go to: ronnielarsen.com or call 954-826-8790.

DJ Abel Born in Brooklyn New York, and lives in Miami, Abel had a mix show on Miami radio at age twenty, but it was his residencies at South Beach clubs such as Paragon and Salvation that established Abel as the after-hours king. One of the best known and most respected deejays on the circuit, Abel credits his incredible success to two words: cha-cha. "You gotta give them the cha-cha," he says. "Nothing gets the ass shaking more than Latin beats." With his explosive amalgam of heavy tribal beats and diva anthems, Abel has headlined nearly every circuit weekend and party, and regularly showcases his legendary prowess with residencies at Alegria, Salvation Saturdays, One Mighty Weekend and Atlantis Cruises. Charlie Cinnamon local theatre icon dies at 94

T

wo weeks ago, the South Florida Theatre community was rocked by the death of Charlie Cinnamon, a legend in his field. Cinnamon was the founder of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and was a press agent for more than 50 years. He was responsible for bringing so many Broadway productions to south Florida through his work with Broadway Across America, that it is hard to imagine theatre in the region without his influence. Cinnamon was 94 years old and passed away just two days shy of his 95th birthday. In his obituary in the Miami Herald, the paper reported: “Miami's arts community is in mourning. Charlie was a theater icon and, at the same time, a loyal friend. He made everyone feel like they were special. His one-on-one approach

made everyone feel like the most important person in the room, which made it perfectly natural for clients and colleagues to become his dearest friends. There will never be another Charlie Cinnamon but the legions of friends he leaves behind will forever carry a bit of his spirit, his kindness and his joy. 'Our Charlie exists forever in our business and in our hearts, said Liz Wallace, vice president of programming for the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Hotspots Media Group sends its heartfelt condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time of loss. However, we know that we have been blessed by his presence in our lives, even if many of us only knew him as a face at the media table at area plays and musicals. His work to bring a bit of joy to each of our lives through theatre enriched us all, and we will surly miss his smile and welcoming spirit.

Inside & Out

Hollywood

By Billy Masters

//Susan Sarandon//

“I

don't vote with my vagina - this is bigger than that." – Susan Sarandon tells a BBC host, which begs the question - exactly how big is Susan Sarandon's vagina? I was with Darren Criss the night he became a man. Let's start at the beginning. I attended the LA opening night of the national tour of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" with some trepidation. When I first saw "Hedwig" in 1999, it was at the Henry Fonda Theatre - a venue half the size of (and across the street from) the cavernous Pantages, where it is currently playing. I also wasn't sure about Darren's ability to lead this production. Yes, he played the role towards the end of the Broadway run, and yes, he's cute as a button. But I didn't know if his winning qualities would be enough to pull off this character. Also, the e-mails offering $29 tickets made me think that perhaps he's not quite enough of a draw to have his name above the title. Most of my fears were somewhat allayed. Since it was opening night, the house was packed and the energy high. The conceit behind the spiffy production values works, but the show still loses much of its magic in

//Darren Criss// such a huge venue. As to Criss, his strong vocals let me know he could more than handle the material. But what surprised me was his ability to morph into various characters with very specific speech patterns and inflections. His delivery of surely wellrehearsed ad libs was matched by his fearlessness in embracing silent moments and letting them play out. As I told him at the after-party, he started out as a cute, talented boy, but in the course of the evening, he became a man. His performance impressed me so much, I almost didn't notice his abs during the nearly-naked finale - which you can find on BillyMasters.com. I highly recommend it (and him). We can all breathe a sigh of relief as our long, national nightmare has come to an end. Of course, I'm talking about "Finding Prince Charming". In the last episode, Robert came clean (so to speak) with the final three suitors about his colorful past. "It's not fair for you guys to be as honest and upfront with me, and me, you know, feel scared about letting you guys in. You guys were, you know, scared about divulging things that were, you know, secrets," Robert started, with all the eloquence of someone who speaks English as a third language. "When I was in college, you know, I was struggling. So, um, I started escorting." Dillon said Robert shouldn't let it define who he is today, and thanked

him for sharing - like it was an AA meeting. Eric said, "Thank you for being so vulnerable and in the moment. It doesn't change anything." And then he pulled Robert in for a kiss, which makes me think this may not be Eric's first brush with the world's oldest profession. Brandon said he was honored that Robert trusted them so much that he was willing to open up. One thing was clear - Logo knew what they were getting with Robert. And since the entire season was filmed prior to broadcast, it was easy for this "secret" to leak out - with Logo's blessing. But the episode was not without drama. At one point, Brandon was skipping through a crosswalk and snapped a tendon. In fact, it happens while he is not only skipping but singing, "Skip to my lou, my darling"! Look, I couldn't make this sh!t up! So at the black tie ceremony, he was not only on crutches, but probably in as much pain as the viewers were. When Robert dumped him, Brandon hobbled over, balanced on his crutches, and somehow took off his tie. He was stoic, while Robert was crying like a little girl - and actually wiped away some of the tears with Brandon's tie! Then Robert told Eric, the hairdresser from West Hollywood, that he is his Prince Charming. As Robert brushed a stray hair off Eric's forehead, I half expected him to call Eric "Hubbell"!

//Ben Cohen//

Our "Ask Billy" question comes from Daniel in Florida. "I heard there's a j/o video of Ben Cohen floating around out there. Do you have it? I'm sure he's HUGE. I actually met rugby great Ben Cohen in Florida after he made an appearance for the Task Force in Miami. He's one of our strongest straight allies and a huge advocate for antibullying. Alas, this week he was also caught with his kit off in an explicit Skype session with an anonymous lady from his past. Since Cohen is threatening legal action and the clip has all but disappeared online, I don't want to comment on the length or, for that matter, the girth of it. That would imply that I've seen it - or that you could see it on BillyMasters.com. When we've come to a happy ending, it's time to wrap up yet another column. Before signing off, I'd like to acknowledge the passing of poor, penniless, disfigured Pete Burns, lead singer of Dead or Alive - well, I guess we know which he is! On the plus side, Boy George has volunteered to pay all funeral costs. You can get all the breaking gossip on www.BillyMasters.com, the site that will spin you right 'round. If you have a question, send it along to me at Billy@BillyMasters.com and I promise to get back to you before our Prince Charmings end up happily ever after...as if. Until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible.

The Hurricane Showdown, played over Thanksgiving weekend, is entering its 23rd year and features teams from across the United States and Canada. More than 50 teams have registered to play in this year's tournament. This year, Prudential has agreed to be the presenting sponsor of the Hurricane Showdown, the South Florida Amateur Athletic Association has announced. The insurance giant, founded in 1875 and the first company in the U.S. to make life insurance available to the working class will offer the international gay softball tournament the freedom to expand in other areas. The South Florida Amateur Athletic Association (SFAAA) is located in Fort Lauderdale. They are an LGBT softball league committed to providing an opportunity for both gay and non-gay participants to compete in an environment welcoming and open to the gay community.

The Dominican Republic, known around the world as QUISQUEYA is the land of merengue, bachata and delicious mangú. The country shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti. The Dominican Republic´s first gained independence from Spain in 1821, after 300 years of domination by the European country. After the victory obtained in the War of the Dominican Independence in 1844, the Dominicans experienced several struggles, mostly internal, and also a brief return of the Spanish domination (1861-1865). The American occupation of 1916 to 1924 and, later, the six years in calm and prosperity of Horacio Vásquez (1924-1930) were followed by the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo until 1961. The civil war of 1965 ended with a intervention led by States United States and was followed by several periods of repressive governments by Joaquín Balaguer (19661978). Since then, the Dominican Republic has moved towards a representative democracy. The Dominican Republic is made up of 32 provinces, including the National District,

Duarte, Elias Piña, San Cristóbal, Santiago, and Santo Domingo. QUISQUEYA has a population of about 10.5 million inhabitants. The Dominican Republic is very famous for its natural paradises which are part of the dream vacation of many people. With its white sand beaches and turquoise water like those of Punta Cana, it is one of the most visited places in the Caribbean. Located to the east of the island, on the waters of the Atlantic, the cape is a paradise of beaches with white sand. Among other places, the famous and majestic Puerto Plata is one of the most popular provinces in the country and is located 223 kilometers north of Santo Domingo. The place is an ideal travel base making it easy to travel to dozens of beaches nearby, at a distance that does not exceed 50 kilometers. Cabarete, Boca Cangrejo, Bergantin, Playa de Copello y la Mariposa are some of the most popular in

this region, which is the most visited after Punta Cana. Another of the things that makes the Dominican Republic great is its people, who with their remarkable cultural values give a cordial welcome to people with different cultures and customs. The Dominican community is very open and supportive and gives a very important place to the LGBT community on the island. It has progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years. Same-sex marriage is not legal yet, but the LGBT community is currently taking steps to achieve that goal. It´s delicious and exquisite gastronomy is a reflection of the influences inherited from the Spaniards and the Africans. The two most popular recipes on the island are the bandera dominicana and sancocho. The first is based on rice, kidney beans and well-seasoned meat. Sancocho is similar to the "Spanish cocido". It is made up of cassava, potato, banana and cilantro, among other ingredients. When it comes to something refreshing, try the delicious ¨die dreaming" which is the best option. It is a smoothie made with milk and orange juice, simple and very delicious.

Need Wood

WOODY ONCE A DAY IS VERY OKAY

H

ey Woody, I'm 38 and I jerk off every day without fail, sometimes twice a day. Is this normal for my age? Also, will jerking off that much increase my chances of getting prostate cancer since I'm over-using the gland? ---Worried I'll break something Dear Worried: Once a day for your age is higher than average but within the normal range. Better to use it too much than not enough. "Use it or lose it" isn't just an excuse for your hands to migrate south, it's the official tested and studied conclusion of sex experts. The less you use your sexual plumbing the more problems you're going to have pumping the well later on. As far as too much ejaculation causing prostate cancer; that sounds like something a Catholic priest would say. What is true is that the prostate is a little temperamental about how much ejaculatory fluid to produce. Any dramatic increase or decrease in the frequency of ejaculation irritates it which sometimes leads to prostatitis, or inflammation of the prostate. Like any factory, it likes a schedule. Don't worry, be horny. Hey, Woody! My partner & I have been monogamous for years and are both HIV-. For the past two years, we have been experimenting with Water Sports. While having anal intercourse he asked if I could pee inside of him. I was apprehensive at first but later decided to try it. It took much

concentration, but when I was finally able to do it the sensation was incredible for both of us. Are there any dangers involved? Dear Top: You are the very link to kink. My first reaction was a total gross-out. And then I asked my boyfriend if I could do it to him. First, congratulations are in order. I have a medical advisory panel I consult with when I get complicated questions. Because they have a large gay practice, they have seen and heard it all. This is the first time they just stared blankly and didn't know what to say. Congratulations, you've stumped the band! When they finally composed themselves here's what they agreed on: Using your boyfriend as a urine recycling plant carries very little risk. Urine itself doesn't contain much HIV to make it an effective transport for exposure. However, you'd be a fool to try it if your HIV status is unknown. If you immediately hose down your partner with urine after cumming, you'd flush semen all over his colon and bowels, increasing the area for HIV exposure. Urine does carry toxins (Urea being one of the big ones). If your partner's colon and bowels protest the use of their property as a toxic waste dumping site tell them they needn't worry. Urine is a sterile fluid containing no bacteria (unless you have an infection), and even its toxins are harmless. So harmless in fact, that my panel agrees your partner doesn't even need to rinse the urine out of his bowels after you've filled him to the rim. Imagine that! Doctors—saying you don't have to flush after going to the bathroom. If the ick factor doesn't bother you (and hey, one man's ick is another man's schtick) there's no reason to stop doing it. But I say flush it out after you're done, man. That's gruesome.
