On Saturday night Billy Kemp, Luis Morera and the entire Score family celebrated Score's 18th Anniversary! The night starred double platinum selling recording artist Natalie La Rose performing her hit single “Somebody,” and DJ's Gavin T and Alain Jackinsky. As usual Score's anniversary was a packed house! On Sunday, we decided to it was time to relax a bit and it was off to Lips Gospel Brunch to have unlimited Mimosa's…or if you are me, just the champagne, and a fabulous show. While there, I ran into my good friend of almost 2 decades (not sure how this is possible since we are both only 25…ish…LOL) Velvet LeNore (pictured here with customers). Sunday night, we swung by Village Pub for Daisy Deadpetal's Life's A Drag and while there we saw last weeks cover model, Singer Daniel Alexander, on stage with Daisy.

Food For Thought

By Scott Holland

O

ne of my favorite things to do in South Florida is go to a show at the Broward Center. As a native New Yorker, and someone who saw many shows on Broadway (as a poor New Yorker who loved shows, I knew about Student tickets and stood on many TKTS lines), the Broward Center brings me back to the thing (other than my family) that I enjoy about New York the most. Therefore you can imagine my excitement a few years back when I heard that a restaurant was being built on the Broward Center Property. I was even more excited after the first time I ate there and I continue to love dinning there. Marti's Bistro's three-course prix fixe dinner menu is perfect for theatergoers who want to savor a relaxed dinner before the curtain rises. There's an extensive wine list and a selection of contemporary cocktails to complement your meal. The three-course prix fixe dinner is only $39.50 per person and you get to choose an appetizer, an EntrÊe and a Dessert. Marti's also offers a Sunday brunch and is one of Fort Lauderdale's best kept brunch secrets. Served from10 AM – 2 PM, Sunday brunch at Marti's is ideal for those attending a matinee, seeking a waterfront experience along the Intracoastal, or

planning an outing with friends and family. One of the best things about Marti's is that it is situated right on the water, so the views are amazing. The first few times I went I sat inside, but the last time I went there was a nice breeze and I decided t o d i n e outside. It's so peaceful to have a view of the water while sipping on a glass of wine. After you place your order they bring you this delicious Tender Buratta and bread (with Roasted Vine-Ripened Tomatoes butter on the side) that looks like it is a muffin. I wish I would have asked what was inside of it, but trust, it's a must. I wanted more, but was afraid I would ruin my appetite and decided to resist my urges. On this occasion, I went with my step mom and as appetizers we both decided we wanted the Tender Buratta and roasted vine-ripened tomatoes, served with broccoli rabe pesto,

Bistro Steak with Caramelized Balsamic Onions balsamic reduction and toasted crostini. Translation: Mozzarella and tomatoes, but taken to the next level. And for those of you who don't like broccoli, don't be scared as I wouldn't have even known this was a broccoli pesto from the taste, but it perfectly complements the T&M.

Salmon For Entrée's my step mom had the Bistro Steak with caramelized balsamic onions, served with horse radish, grilled asparagus and baby potatoes. She was hesitant about getting this as she was not sure how the steak would taste, and I assured her that I had it before and she would love it. The steak is so tender and dipped in the Horse radish it's a delight in your mouth. After her first bite, she thanked me for convincing her to get the Bistro Steak. Because I wanted to try something different, I ordered the Salmon, which was served over a “risottoeque” pasta (sorry can't

remember the exact name) and a sauce that literally made this the best Salmon of my life. I generally have leftovers when I eat, but I ate every bite. The plate was clean dry when I was done! For dessert we both had the Raspberr y Sorbet which was served with fresh fruit, whip cream and mint leaves. We both agreed the sorbet was mouth wateringly delicious and the perfect final course Raspberry Sorbet to this delicious meal. Keep in mind that Marti's Bistro tends to change a few items on the menu every season, so some of these items may no longer be available this upcoming season, but rest assured everything that I have eaten there has been nothing short of delicious. For reservations call 954.660.6333 or book on OpenTable. While reservations are encouraged, walk ups are welcome.

in South Florida By Ian Maloney In South Florida, we are very lucky that we have three venues that bring national touring ensembles and Broadway shows to our area, but did you know that there are a TON of small, local theatres and theatre companies that count on homegrown talent and feature hundreds of shows ever year? What follows is by no means an exhaustive list, but we wanted to tell you a little more about some of these smaller theatres and highlight a few shows, some you may recognize, and some you might never have heard of, but one thing is for sure; there is no lack of theatrical events going on, right here in our own back yard.

The Wick Theatre 7901 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton The Wick Theatre was founded in 2013 when Marilynn Wick acquired the former Caldwell Theatre Company space in north Boca Raton, resurrecting the vacant property into the Wick Theatre and Costume Museum which opened for business in September with its inaugural production of The Sound of Music. The production was heralded by the press and patrons alike, making the Wick Theatre a formidable contender in professional theatre in South Florida despite its newcomer status. One of the most recognized shows of the

upcoming season is Westside Story which will run from January 12 through February 26, 2017. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. Other season highlights include: They're Playing Our Song, Roslyn Kind Live, Let's Hang On, Sister Act- A Divine Musical Comedy, Guys and Dolls, and Beehive- The 60's Musical…Sealed with a Kiss. Island City Stage 2304 N. Dixie Hwy. Wilton Manors

Founded in 2012, Island City Stage has gained the reputation of being a multia w a rd w i n n i n g professional theater that provides stellar performances for those in the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Wilto

n Manors/Oakland Park communities. They specialize in developing new work in addition to featuring the works of playwrights who expose audiences to different voices and experiences. These works are brought to life on stage through the talents of professional artists, both union and non-union, whose credits include Broadway, Off Broadway, National Tours, major regional theatres, film and television. The LGBT community is rich with history, with characters, with stories. And, at Island City Stage, it has found a place where a strong and vibrant voice is being given to those stories—ones of love and loss, of struggle and humor, of fear and courage. This season Island City Stage presents Perfect Arrangement which will run from November 10-December 11, 2016. Topher Payne's biting comedy takes us back to 1950 where new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying sexual deviants within their ranks. The twist: Both Bob and Norma are gay, and have married each other's partners as a carefully constructed cover. Inspired by the

true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, madcap “I Love Lucy” sitcom-style laughs give way to provocative drama as two “All-American” couples are forced to stare down the closet door, confronting the very struggles facing society today. They will also feature The First Step, Son, and they round out the season with The Goldberg Variations. “I

think the way David just described it was flawless. The fact that I was going into this event knowing that my identity is rooted in Christ and not what the result of this competition is just gave me peace"-Steele Johnson (a porn name if ever there was one) talks about winning the silver medal in synchronized diving with David Boudia, who also thanked Christ. As long as Christ wants them to have rockin' bodies, kicky haircuts, and use the word "flawless", I'm happy. Let me start this week's column by applauding the US men's gymnastics team. Now, I'm not applauding them for any professional achievement. I'm applauding them because they've blatantly asked for the media to objectify them. And, in a striking departure from my typical sexual modus operandi, I am happy to take this direction. The team has posed for numerous shirtless pics and deluged social media with same. Prior to the Olympics, all-around national champion Sam Mikulak wondered how to get the attention of the American people (and, perhaps, score some financially lucrative endorsement deals post-Rio). His answer? "Maybe compete with our shirts off. People make fun of us for wearing tights. But if they saw how yoked we are maybe that would make a

//Dustin Lance Black & Tom Daley// difference." I don't know exactly what this "yoked" is, but I'm all for anything that delivers a little flesh. NBC has received some criticism for bias against LGBT Olympians. While many parents, spouses, and children of competitors are being mentioned on TV, the same cannot be said for same-sex partners. Tom Daley's fiancee, Dustin Lance Black, was shown on the screen sitting with Daley's mom - but only mum was acknowledged. After a volleyball match, Larissa França hugged her wife. The commentator said, "That is her husband. She married Lili in 2013." Huh? If you think this is all happenstance, riddle me this - why is Greg Louganis, possibly the greatest diver who ever lived, doing commentary for Brazilian TV and not NBC? You might have heard that a straight reporter was sent to Rio to lure gay Olympians on Grindr and out them. But that wasn't the purpose of the story (which has since been deleted). The story was ostensibly about how much sex is going on in the Olympic Village - something we've heard about for years. The writer went on both gay and straight Apps looking for sex and - again, not surprising - he got more responses on Grindr than all the other Apps combined. That explains why the piece was titled "I Got Three Grindr Dates In An Hour In The Olympic Village". What shocked me most is that the writer used his own photo and let's just say he's not a looker. While no athletes are named, he included clues about the

guys' events, countries, and placing. Ultimately, the takeaway is that gay men are looking for more sex than straight women surprise, surprise. If he wanted to get a real scoop, he should have used the photo of a hot female on Tinder! My point is not to defend the writer or the Beast itself. But I do think it's important that this incident is reported by someone who actually read the article - which does not appear to include most critics. This may come as a shock to you, but I just spent a lovely time with John Barrowman and his hubby Scott Gill in Provincetown. The duo were vacationing prior to Johnny 's appearance at Boston's Comic-Con. The pair caught a number of shows while in town. The night before I arrived, they went to see WellStrung, which they loved. We all went to see Varla Jean Merman, and I had the best time watching Barrowman - who at one point was laughing so hard, I thought he was going to hyperventilate (to be fair, the sight of Merman in a burqa is quite hysterical). We discussed my recent split-open forehead which was glued shut in an ER. Scott then told me that he sliced open one of his fingers while cutting vegetables and actually glued the wound shut himself! Johnny shared an anecdote about how pleasurable Scott's now-rough digit was, which I have filed away for future reference. It should be mentioned that Gill was quite tickled to visit the mega-popular ScottCakes shop in Provincetown, owned by my pal Scott Cunningham. You must sample his sinfully

delicious treats - Cunningham's, not Gill's. I also asked Barrowman about a death threat he received. The organizers of Montreal Comic-Con received an e-mail from someone on the West Coast threatening a number of minority groups and targeting Johnny specifically. John refused to cancel - "I wasn't gonna let the bastards win." But he wouldn't risk the well-being of his fans. So he was in a separate room and his talk was transmitted via video. As to meeting, greeting, and autographing, security arranged limited groups to visit Barrowman in person, and everyone was served - so to speak. The LGBT for Hillary Gala will take place at Cipriani on Wall Street in NYC on September 9th, and that event will feature a performance by Barbra Streisand! Tix range from $1,200 to $250,000 - the top price includes a meet-andgreet. Obviously, not with Barbra - but with Hillary! When I'm trying to decide if I want to be the "yoker" or the "yokee", it's definitely time to end yet another column. PHEW - between the Olympics and Ptown, I'm exhausted - and running out of lube. But, I'm not so tired that I can't update www.BillyMasters.com - the site that likes its men over easy. Although I didn't have room for an "Ask Billy" question, you can always write to me at Billy@BillyMasters.com, and I promise to get back to you before Barrowman buys a burqa! So, until next time, remember, one man's filth is another man's bible.

Quizás no,

On With the Show To say that you saw a gay man enjoying a dramatic play in the theater is like saying that you saw a Jehovah Witness knocking on someone's door uninvited. What is it about Broadway plays that attract so many gay people? I think tickets to a Broadway show should be part of a welcoming package you get when you come out of the closet along with a gym membership and $100 gift card to Banana Republic. In all seriousness, the theatre world was one of the first to openly talk about the AIDS epidemic in Angels in America and gay identity such as La Cage aux Folles. The theater community has offered an outlet and safe haven to many of us since a very young age. If you would like to see other plays in which gay people are portrayed, do not hesitate to watch Bent, The Boys in the Band, Lilies, The Book of Mormon, Psycho Beach Party and Jeffrey among so many others. I remember growing up as a child; I loved Grease and Mary Poppins. I could never get into Cats though. There was no plot to it. Just a bunch of cats singing about love, midnight, hunger and fleas…I think. Don't quote me on that one. I wasn´t paying much attention. As a young adult I loved Rent, but watching it over and over

again over the years, you can't help but to think “shut the f**k up and get a job”! I hear they're re-vamping West Side Story, or as I like to call it “Donald Trump's Hell”, as he'd have to get ready to watch immigrants sing for hours about why they want to live inAmerica. As gay men, we always try to emulate the theater Divas and they all change according to the generation. First, we had My Fair Lady and Hello Dolly. Then came Wicked and Chicago and now we have…wait, that's right…this generation is not involved in theater as much. They got Ariana Grande and cable TV so they're good. I actually started getting back into loving theater thanks to Neil Patrick Harris. Not only is he a good role model as a gay man with his own family and great career, but also incredibly talented as an actor, singer and dancer. Sometimes I wish my life could be like a big play. I start the day with a song about brushing my teeth as little birds fly through my window and a deer opens the bathroom door with its horns to help me sing the melody. Then, I drive to work, but traffic stops completely because we now get out of our vehicles and perform to a very enlightening and choreographed dance of the Rush Hour Song (which really pisses me off because now I'd be much later for work!) I love theater because is a depiction of real human life in a fantastic setting. It fills us with joy, music and the need to make positive changes in our own lives to try to make them as memorable and beautiful as the ones the character have. It gives us hope and the promise that, long after curtains go down, they will come up again for us to start a brand new show in our own lives which will be performed to perfection until we achieve the mental applause from all around us. Have a wonderful Autumn season and break a leg, guys!

Need Wood

WOODY QUIT GUESSING & H

JUST ASK HIM!

ey Woody, My boyfriend suddenly seems distant in bed—like he's just going through the motions, if he goes through them at all. I'm so afraid that he's falling out of love with me. I know I should talk to him but he's not the talking kind and frankly, neither am I. Do you think his change in sexual behavior is a sign that he'll soon kick me to the curb? -- Dead Bed Dear Bed Head No, I think it's a sign that you two mutes need to talk. The only problem silence ever solves is in the library. Don't assume that a lack of interest is a lack of love. It's not always about you. Let me repeat that because you're gay and all the mirrors you're holding up probably deflected what I wrote from your eyes: It's not always about you. If he's changed the frequency, passion or interest in sex it *could* be a sign that he thinks you're as exciting as a Kansas zip code. But it's most likely circumstances that changed his behavior in bed. Take stress. That'll give anybody's d!ck a flat tire. I remember once working for a company that rumbled with rumors of bankruptcy. I didn't want to worry my boyfriend so I kept it to myself. Actually, my d!ck kept to itself

because no matter how many times I yelled, "Showtime, Mr. Happy!" he just wouldn't perform. When I finally shared the problem and my boyfriend helped me through it (the company did go bankrupt, btw), I became my old self—a lewd, loud and lecherous horn-dog who kept calling his boyfriend by the wrong name just to piss him off. The biggest sign that something's wrong with the relationship is if he starts taking care of himself physically but ignores you sexually. If that's the case don't let the clue bat hit you in the face: He's fallen out of love with you and into lust with someone else. There are smaller signs, too: *He fakes his orgasms by spitting on your back * He suddenly thinks foreplay is a golfing term * He has to drink a lot before climbing in bed * He starts acting like an underpaid gigolo Remember, what your boyfriend does on the way to the bed is more important than what he does in it. Is he still affectionate? Does he pay attention to you? Is he respectful? Does he want to be *with* you as much as he wants to be *in* you? If so, then sit down and have a chat. Boyfriends shouldn't just be all over each other in bed—they should be leaning on each other outside of it. My advice? Quit guessing and ask him if he's stressed out about something you can help him with.
