week ago Monday was the much anticipated Miss Florida F.I. 2016, the social event of the season. With 16 qualified contestants, your new Miss Florida F.I. is Orlando's own Shantell D'Marco. Her court in order was Jazell Barbie Royale, Amanda D'rhod, Valeria Coutier, and Kalah Mendoza. It was a hugely successful event and this year promises to be fantastic for the Miss Florida F.I. organization with Shantell at the helm. On Tuesday night was the monthly Mack Mixer, which took place this month at Fork and Balls on Las Olas. Also on Tuesday, Mind Your Manor's presented their inaugural “Summer Latin Nights” which happens every Tuesday in the summer and feature Bartender Steven along with $2 Tacos, $2 Chips and Pico De Gallo, $2 Cuban Sliders and much more. On Wednesday, Gym bar presented their first Employee Turnabout night that benefitted Latino Salud. There nothing better than seeing beefy hairy men in drag…LOL!! On Thursday night there were 3 events. The first was the GLBX monthly After Hours Mixer, which this month was also the Artopia Official Launch event at Audi Fort Lauderdale. Then we went to the Stonewall Gallery's Opening of their newest show “Secret Dressing: Subliminal Messages in Clothing Catalogs.”

Afterwards we headed over to the celebration of life of Marc Hansen, where lots of friends and family showed up to honor Marc and his accomplishments. On Saturday we went to Prideline's annual Masquerade Ball at Biltmore Hotel, which is the organizations main fundraiser of the year.

On Sunday, we headed to Palace for their Sunday Brunchic, and couldn't help but take a pic of this sexy security guard…..does anyone want to be manhandled? Later that night we headed over to the Parker Playhouse as Murray and Peter presented Ru Paul's Drag Race Season 8, The Queens live!

Experiment in the Kitchen The couples who play together stay together! Gay relationships these days involve more than just having fun under the sheets, so date night is key to maintaining that spark and increasing excitement in and out of the bedroom. Sure, who wouldn't want to take an exotic Mediterranean cruise, splurge on a staycation at the Four Seasons or first class it to Prague for a week?

Unfortunately, most of us don't live that fabulous lifestyle—even though some of us like to think we do! It also doesn't mean you have to do fall into the monotonous pattern of drinks, dinner and a movie. For the couples out there who are looking for creative (and inexpensive) date ideas, we have put together a list of activities to make playing together the highlight of your week.

Romantic dinners at your favorite restaurant are a popular go-to plan for date night, but weekly outings can add up. Instead of going out, enjoy one on one time with your hunnie at home and whip up a new, delicious recipe in the kitchen. With thousands of cookbooks to choose from, challenge yourself with ingredients or spices you've never used.

Enjoy a glass of wine—or a bottle—and jam to your favorite playlist. You don't even have to get dressed up—hell, you don't have to wear anything at all! We recommend wearing at least an apron to protect yourself in case you are using any hot oils. Ouch!

Express Yourself We all have an artistic side! Maybe you have a talent that you've yet to discover? From painting and cooking to pottery and poetry, many studios offer affordable classes that cater to gay couples. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your partner and let your guard down.

Revealing one's self artistically takes guts. Open yourself up emotionally and show him what you're made of. You might even have a gorgeous new painting to place above the mantle.

You remember the excitement of running into a store to pick out a new toy—it was exhilarating! Even though we've outgrown the sandbox, shopping for toys can be just as pleasurable as an adult. Take your man to an adult toy store and let him have his pick from the variety of novelties. You can spend hours browsing, laughing and exchanging fantasies, or you can rush home to start playing with your new toy. Either way, don't be afraid to get dirty and show your wild side.

Take your boyfriend hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, biking or camping. For the couples out there who pride themselves on staying physically fit, many of these activities provide a great workout, release endorphins and keep your blood pumping.

We all remember how hot and bothered Jake and Heath were in Brokeback Mountain! Make sure to stay hydrated.

If making plans ahead of time is challenging, try to do something spontaneous. Take an impromptu road trip with no destination in mind, get those tattoos you keep putting off (no names!) or pack a lunch and picnic in a random spot. Be sure to capture your adventure with plenty of selfies! You'll want to look back on those photos one day and ask, “What were we thinking?”

Feel Him Up A couple's massage at any spa can cost upwards of $100, so save that visit for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. On Saturday, August 20th, the Poverello Center, one of the only consumer choice medically tailored food pantries in the nation providing food, nutrition and wellness services, hosts its 26th Annual Bowling to Fight Hunger charity event presented by AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

The event takes place at Sawgrass Lanes in Tamarac (8501 N University Dr.). Teams of five can register for $150, or $30 per bowler at www.hungerfighter.org.

The event kicks off with a party bus provided by BankUnited to transport bowlers and supporters to Sawgrass Lanes from Hunters Nightclub.

Boarding begins at 10:15 am and participants can ride in luxury to the event. Registration begins at 11:00 am, bowling begins at 12 noon and ends at 3:00 pm. Buses will return participants to Hunters for a fun filled awards party. Prizes will be awarded to highest scoring team, male bowler and female bowler, as well as the individual and team raising the most money. The top individual fundraiser is also awarded and a prize which includes a one week stay at an exclusive Fort Lauderdale beach front villa.

“Nutrient rich food can either prevent certain diseases or help the body fight chronic diseases like HIV, Cardiac Artery D i s e a s e o r D i a b e te s ,” s a y s T h o m a s Pietrogallo, MSW and Chief Operations Officer at Poverello. “Food is like medicine in that malnourished people living with HIV have unsuppressed viral loads and lower CD4 counts and are two times more likely to be hospitalized, while their healthcare costs are three times higher. But, people who receive Food and nutritional services feel more independent, eat more nutritious foods and manage medical treatment and medications more effectively.”

It was great to speak with him about ways that we can all help make sure our pets are protected should problems arise.

Tell our readers a little about your business.

Vet bills are increasing more and more. You can easily go to a vet for an injury or illness and spend $1000 up to $5000. This isn't even considering cancer treatment or anything that tends to be a little higher which can range from $10,000 to $15,000. With FIGO Pet insurance you are able, for between $1.50 to $3.00 per day, to be covered for surgeries, emergencies, holistic and alternative treatments, XRAYS, and all kinds of expenses related to illness and injuries. At what age did singing become an interest of yours?

I think I was about 6 or 7 years old when I started to find out I had a passion for singing and performing. I knew this was something I would want to be doing for a long time.

When did you know singing was going to officially be your career?

I knew I wanted a career being an artist from the age of 12. This is when I started writing songs, started recording and started to join talent competitions.

How did it feel to release your first single in January of 2015, and then go on tour with Fifth Harmony that summer?

esides hurricane season, we all know what mid-august means in South Florida; back to school time. Get ready for massive traffic during the morning commute, 15mph zones, and tons of sales on school supplies.

Here at Hotspots, we aren't concerned pencils and trapper keepers (do they even still make those?) but we are concerned about how LGBT students will be received on local campuses this fall. As more and more people decide it is safe to come out, we reached out to LGBT organizations on South Florida College campuses to see what life is like there for our community.

Here are the responses we received from Nova Southeastern University as well as from The University of Miami.

>>> How's gay life on your campus? What resources are there for LGBT students on your campus?

Laurie A. Simontacchi, B.A P s y c h o l o g y Tr a i n e e , Graduate Assistant, Psychology Services Center Internship Program, College of Psychology-Nova Southeastern University I can mostly speak for the College of Psychology at Nova Southeastern University, where I am working toward a doctorate in clinical psychology. I have found the environment here to be very LGBT-friendly and supportive, which is why I was so surprised when I first came into my program of study and found that the Gay Straight Student Alliance had been stagnant for a couple of years. A couple friends and I shared the belief that, especially in a field like psychology, this was unacceptable. It's so important to have an organization that celebrates gender identity and sexual orientation diversity and that seeks to educate mental health professionals in training to be competent and

We revamped the organization last year and it has been successful in remaining active since. Last year, we changed the name of the organization from the Gay Straight Student Alliance to Prism. We felt this change was important because we wanted a name that would be all-inclusive of members of the LGBT community, including those who identify as transgender and gender nonconforming.

We met with the undergraduate President of the Gay Straight Student Alliance at NSU last year. She shared with us that there were some difficulties with attendance at meetings and student involvement. However, at events like Coming Out, they continued to have lots of student support and involvement. We hope that this is something that continues.

Additionally, we organized a joint panel presentation with Lambda at the NSU Law School last year and found that they were very well-supported. It's so important to collaborate efforts with the other schools of study at Nova, to maintain a warm and supportive environment for all students.

Mary Balise, president of SpectrUM at the University of Miami LGBTQ+ life at the University of Miami tends to be pretty great. We rarely experience any type of discrimination, so in that sense we are very lucky. We have several amazing student organizations dedicated to queer life on campus. I am the president of both of our undergraduate organizations, SpectrUM and our chapter of oSTEM.

SpectrUM is our largest undergrad LGBTQ+ organization and is a social group open to any and all students who would like to join. Our largest event of the year is a massive charity fundraiser and drag show in the spring called DragOut where we bring in professionals from South Beach and have them perform alongside amateur groups made up of UM students, staff, and faculty. We have a lot of fun with that and it is always extremely well received by our campus community. oSTEM stands for Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and is a national organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ individuals in the STEM fields. UM is also home to three graduate level organizations called MedicOUT, GradOUT, and OUTLaw, for our medical, graduate, and law students, respectively.

In addition we are home to a chapter of Delta Lambda Phi which is a greek l e t t e r organization for L G BT a n d progressive men.

One of our most exciting resources is our recently founded LGBTQ Resource Center. It will be opening this fall and we recently hired our inaugural director who is doing an amazing job creating this new resource for our campus.

Another important resource at UM is our Ibis Ally Network, which is a network of faculty and staff who choose to take part in a training to learn how to be great allies to their students and coworkers.

Lastly, we have an alumni group called LGBTQ 'Canes through our Alumni Association which meets during Homecoming and at various other times to help connect our LGBTQ alumni.

“I ‘m killing myself for this tour because there's a painting I want!"-Barbra Streisand explains the impetus behind this latest concert tour.

Singers typically have a shor t professional life. Beverly Sills sang her last opera at 51, while Callas was only 42. When Judy Garland died at 47, she had already been in vocal decline for several years. And let's not even talk about Liza. So my expectations were tempered walking into "Barbra: The Music... The Mem'ries... The Magic". After all, Streisand is 74. And yet, what you get is roughly 85-90 percent of prime Babs. Yes, there is a discernible roughness to anything above a B. But rather than avoid these notes, she faces the challenge head-on and quite often, the risk pays off. The set list includes a number of songs she's never sung publicly before. A highlight is the sequence from "Funny Lady". Her tackling of the breakdown scene of "How Lucky Can You Get" was staggering.

OK, the gratuitous "Fan-fu&%ing-tastic" is questionable, but it got a cheer - as

In LA, she had Seth MacFarlane, Jamie Foxx, and Babyface (who sang with her on her 2014 CD, "Partners"). I'm told various special guests will turn up in most cities.

I must admit, I enjoy the summer Olympics primarily because we get to see really hot guys in almost no clothing. Even the Parade of Nations wasn't exempt from that. The Tongan flag bearer (sporting a bare torso) stole the hearts of women and gay men everywhere. Pita Nikolas Taufatofua, a 6'3", 32-year-old athlete, represented his country in taekwondo. He was slathered with copious amounts of coconut oil. "In Tonga, it's traditional. In any sort of event we use coconut oil," said Taufatofua. Interestingly enough, he was actually born in Australia. Although he lives in Brisbane, he wanted to compete for the country of his father - where, methinks, he'd have far less competition.

Speaking of the Olympics, recently numerous gay men on social media took aim at Gus Kenworthy - a name most people have never heard before. He's an openly gay Olympic skier, and he's really hot. And that's why he has a following - if he were losing his hair and had a hump, he'd have no fan base (medal or not). Gus

posted a photo with beau Matt Wilkas and Caitlyn Jenner at an undisclosed party in London. That party was to celebrate the birthday of Prince Azim, the son of the Sultan of Brunei, a monarch with an anti-gay bent.

The "colorful" prince enjoys having celebrities at his fetes - folks like Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Sophia Loren, Michael Jackson, and others have attended in the past (and have been, presumably, wellcompensated). But it does beg the question how anti-gay is anyone with that kinda guest list? Once Gus was informed that this could be a touchy subject with his fans, he deleted the post - but not before it wormed its way through the web. Since then, he's been raked over the coals about how he's let so many people down. When you can't find Brunei on a map or tell me any stats about Kenworthy other than the number of abs he has, then you can tell me how let down you are.

Sources say E! is putting "I Am Cait" out of its misery - and not a moment too soon. I hear the brass only tolerated it because they're in bed with the other Kardashians. Insiders claim there is no fan base for Caitlyn. The gays don't care. The women don't care. And straight men don't watch E! What was the final straw? An African network pulled the show after getting a complaint from a viewer in Nigeria. Once you've lost the Nigerians...

Some celebrated men were having a devil of a time keeping their clothes on. First we had Orlando Bloom paddle boarding with paramour Katy Perry in Sardinia. When we have a positive story about Orlando, it's definitely time to end yet another column. Before we wrap up, I want to mourn the passing of Youree Dell Cleomili Harris. You probably knew her best as Miss Cleo, professional psychic. In a sad twist of fate, she had colon cancer that apparently spread to her other organs. If only she discovered it sooner.

Budwig is responsible for new business development, maintaining client relationships and developing project concepts.

Budwig is Chair of the Board of Directors of Pride Center and immediate Past Chair of Broward House. He is Past Chair of Riverwalk Trust, Oakland Park Main Street and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Leadership Fort Lauderdale Class 11. Marta Gonzalez, Advocate.

Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico Marta worked as a social worker at the Department of Social Services of Puerto Rico, Child Protection Unit. In 1989, Marta and her family relocated from Puerto Rico to Chicago where she began working at Esperanza Community Services, serving individuals with special needs for 7 years. In 2000, Marta and her family decided to relocate from Chicago to Florida where Marta was given the opportunity to become a Ryan White Case Manager at Broward House. As a Case Manager, with great passion and commitment, Marta dedicated endless hours towards hundreds of cases serving the HIV Community for 15 years. After committing 15 years to Broward House, Marta was faced with making one of the toughest decisions in life. On May 05, 2016, Marta retired from Broward House leaving behind memories which will never be forgotten.

Marie Brown Hayes, M.S.W. is the Program Director for the Comprehensive Family AIDS Program (CFAP), at the Children's Diagnostic & Treatment Center, Inc. (CDTC). She has worked for CDTC since 1982, serving infants, children, youth, women and families living with HIV, ensuring they have access to high quality medical care, case management, mental health, and support services, as the Ryan White Part D Grantee. Her career is highlighted by the innovative use of peer advocates for HIV prevention education in the schools and community, to educating obstetricians regarding the results of ACTG 076 to ensure Broward County was in the forefront of implementing efforts to reduce perinatal transmission. She continues to provide programs and services that improve the lives of those HIV positive persons, through advocacy, education and community collaboration.

Ken Rapkin is the executive Director of the Campbell Foundation, a position he has held since January 2016. Previously, Ken served as Program Officer for the foundation since its inception in 1995. His role is to administer the grants program, including initial grant proposal screening. He acts as liaison to the Peer Review Board and Board of Directors and coordinates all research/scientific information, as well as all aspects of grant funding – from initial grant receipt through final disposition. Prior to joining the foundation he was office manager for Campbell Laboratories in Deerfield Beach, Fla., where he worked directly with the company and foundation's founder, the late Richard Campbell Zahn. Ken served seven years in the U.S. Navy and then earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Once you get over the unfairness of it all, you're left with a big question: Now what? How do I get the confidence to approach guys and what do I say to them without looking like a fool?

You get confidence by earning it; by being good at the social skills that guys find irresistible.

That takes training (what, you were hoping for a few pickup lines? Right.) And by training I mean practicing the art of "icebreaking."
