week ago Monday, Blue Events presented the 35th anniversary celebration of Nikki Adams being crowned Miss Florida F.I. The festivities took place at the Boardwalk, and was filled with many tribute performances to one of Florida's best female impersonators. On Tuesday, the GFLGLCC presented their July Mixer on the Water Taxi. On Thursday there were 2 big events in Miami. First we went to Bacardi headquarters as the Task Force presented their Winter Party check dispersal, which was a few dollars shy of $275,000. Congrats to all involved, and to all the charities that are going to benefit. We left the Bacardi headquarters and went to Latinos Salud DiversiSafe party at Briza on the Bay. The place was packed, and while there we saw performances by TP and Sasha Lords, listened to the music of DJ Rob Sky and heard a very interesting and informative speech on Safe Sex and the new DiversiSafe program by Dr. Stephen Fallon. Congrats to Stephen, Mikael (Yay, we finally met in person) and the entire Latinos Salud staff on a fabulous event. On Friday evening, everything came to a halt as we had to go see Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie on its premiere night. It was everything and more we expected and we were laughing from the beginning until the end. We are so ready for the sequel!! Later that night it was off to Ramrod to see the new Mr. IML, David "Tigger" Bailey, in his first appearance in South Florida. On Saturday we started the night at Rumors for their Black event, which was a leather event benefitting Sunserve's Domestic Violence Program and featured the music of DJ Alex Ramos. Afterwards we went down the block to Hunters for their monthly “Teddy Bear” event featuring the music of DJ Erez Ben Ishay. Sunday night we headed to Bailo for their Cabaret as it was also a benefit for Kalah Mendoza (Miss Paradise F.I.) to send her to Miss Florida F.I. What a great show it was!

Throughout South Florida these men have honed their craft and are ready to give you a haircut or style that not only expresses who you are, but what the hair care professionals have learned throughout their careers. Six Stylists responded to our questions, and here's what they had to say:

What made you want to be a hairstylist?

I have always thought of hair as form of expression and creativity. I wanted to be able to help people feel better about their appearance.

What is your specialty or what separates you from other hair stylists?

I love the eďŹ&#x20AC;ects of contrast. I try to provide that in each cut. I'm a big believer in educating the client in how to recreate their look at home. Showing them how to use products that will help enhance their look.

What made you become a Barber?

I wanted to give a good quality haircut and make Fort Lauderdale/Wilton Manors more aesthetically pleasing.

What is your specialty and what separates you from other Barbers?

What made you want to be a Barber?

As a kid, I was always playing with people's hair. Not sure what came ﬁrst my fascination with people's hair or with male beauty. It wasn't till I was 24 years old, my Friend Adolfo (Adolfo had been cutting hair for over 20 years) said, why don't you get oﬀ your ass and go to beauty school. So I did. 10 years later, best thing I ever did.

What is your specialty or what separates you from other Barbers?

My specialty is cutting a guy's hair or trimming his beard so that it enhances his features. A man's eyes, smile and personality can be enhanced by working his hair/beard to make these stand out and show his natural male beauty.

What is your specialty or what separates you from other hair stylists?

I give the best hot towel shave; come and experience it for yourself.

Joe Pace Dicks Service Station What made you want to be a hairstylist?

I grew up around this industry but never had any interest in it. My mother was a salon owner and many of my relatives were stylists, barbers, etc. But, when I turned 40 and had my mid-life crisis I decided I needed a complete change. So, I ﬁgured I'd give this industry a whirl and see where it takes me. Thankfully I've been pretty successful.

I think cutting hair. I enjoy doing color, but my heart has always been in cutting. There is something very architectural about it--especially men's cuts--that gets me going! Funny thing is there is also a lot of geometry involved in cutting hair, and me, being the most math-phobic human that ever lived, ďŹ nds it pretty ironic that I love cutting so much.

What made you want to be a hairstylist?

It wasn't something I knew I would be doing with my life, it was something I just tried and fell in love with.

I specialize in all aspects of the business. That's what separates me from other hairstylists. I can do it all.

ocks of Love is a not-forprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 with medical hair loss. These custom-fitted hair prosthetics are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale to children whose families meet the Locks of Love Board of Directors guidelines. The organization, which began operation in 1998, strives to help all financially disadvantaged children who are living with the daily trials of medical hair loss. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the internet and word of mouth as well as publicity Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines and on television programs. Donors provide the hair, volunteers open and sort the donations, and the manufacturer hand-assembles each piece, which requires approximately four to six months. Children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have the opportunity to help other children. Locks of Love provides its recipients with a custom, vacuum-fitted hairpiece made entirely from donated human hair. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. Most of the applicants suffer from an auto-immune condition called alopecia

areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns, or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem, in addition to many other dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss. Almost anyone who has long enough hair is eligible to donate, however not all hair can be used in the devices that are given to children. Sometimes, the organization is able to sell the hair and use the money to help offset costs. I have to start this article off with a disclaimer, I live in Miami Beach, so if things get a bit personal, don’t hate, come visit! Miami Beach is considered by most travel websites and experts as one of the top destinations in the Sunshine state. Each year, millions of tourists flock to Miami Beach to escape the wicked winters up north, or just to get a bit of respite from the trials and tribulations of everyday life. A lot of people don’t realize that Miami and Miami Beach are not the same city. Miami Beach is an island that is connected to Miami by several causeways but it has its own government, police, and is totally independent of the City of Miami. Miami Beach is made up of a narrow strip of land that features over seven miles of beaches which to this day, remain the main tourist attraction the city has to offer. There is nothing better than walking the streets and smelling sun tan lotion as locals and tourists alike flock to the crystal clear water of the Atlantic Ocean to escape the famous Florida heat and humidity. Shirts and shoes are definitely NOT required here! Miami Beach is made up of 3 main geographical areas- North Beach, Mid Beach, and South Beach. The most popular is South Beach, often abbreviated SoBe.

South Beach ends around 24th street, MidBeach ends around 63rd street, and North Beach makes up the remaining few miles of the city.

Lincoln Road - Miami Beach’s out door mall, Lincoln Road, is a pedestrian walk way that features everything you would ﬁnd in a typical shopping mall, plus tons of outdoor dining options. The pedestrian area stretches across the island from Washington Ave. to Alton Road, but the businesses extend past both of those boarders. It was a pleasure to sit down with Chris Coleman, club manager and private and special events manager, just prior to their 2 year anniversary celebration.

After being open for almost 20 years in Atlanta, what made you open a store in Miami?

Miami didn’t have a store like Tokyo Valentino. There are stores that are similar, but not a multi-use space like Tokyo Valentino Miami. We feature a dance floor, video booths, and after hours feel and a retail side. There was a niche that needed to be filled, so we decided to fill it.

What do you oﬀer at the Miami Store?

We have a tremendous variety of adult toys, lubes, a head shop, and clothing, In addition, we have the private viewing booths for people’s video pleasure. We are

open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and we have free parking. In addition we are centrally located at 83rd and Biscayne.

What experience will a customer have at Tokyo Valentino?

A very unique experience. If they opt to come in on retail side they will get a tremendous display of adult toys, etc. However, if they come in on the north side it’s an intimate setting to view movies and meet people. We also have a very educated staﬀ that knows all about our products to help our customers.

What are you doing to celebrate your 2nd Anniversary?

We are having a month long celebration. Every Saturday in August there will be an after-hours event from 2 am to 7am featuring DJ Jeffrey Jacobs with complimentary alcohol. In addition, we are featuring a weekly raffle for the entire month of August. If you spend $25 or more you are entered in to the raffle for the chance to win a $250 gift card to Tokyo Valentino.

Ok, nunca me he puesto nada de eso y es por esto que me sorprendió mucho el que me hayan pedido eso. ¿Cuántas veces a ustedes los han invitado a cualquier sitio y se les recuerda que tenían que verse bien? En ese momento me di cuenta de que tal vez tenía un problema. Eso y el hecho de que siempre me están regalando dinero por la calle cada vez que me ven con mi moda de vagabundo. ¡Te juro que quiero verme bien! ¡De verdad que sí trato! Por eso me bañé y todo. ¡¿Qué más quieren de mí?! ¡Déjenme tranquilo! (sale corriéndo en llanto) Ok, ya regresé… Yo sé que no es suficiente el solo bañarse. Es que no puedo recordarme de tantas cosas que los hombres tenemos hoy día para verse bien.

By making history with an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program. Not only did Ru get a nomination - she was n o m i n a te d a l o n g s i d e Ja n e Ly n c h ("Hollywood Game Night"), Tom Bergeron ("Dancing with the Stars"), Ryan Seacrest ("American Idol"), Steve Harvey ("Little Big Shots"), and Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum ("Project Runway") - officially making it the gayest category in Emmy history. Be that as it may, we hear that Logo encouraged their 20 prospective beaus to amp up the drama and cattiness while filming in an LA-area estate. I'll be interested to see how many of the hunks hook up with each other - something ABC's "Bachelor" franchise rarely has to worry about. As to the guy handing out the roses (or whatever a gay bachelor hands out - PrEP, perhaps?), Robert Sepulveda Jr. has been described as "an interior designer with Puerto Rican roots who now lives in Atlanta". Except the person making the announcement was Angela Lansbury - who starred in "Blithe Spirit" in the same theatre last year. After the pre-recorded speech ended, the audience started applauding. I said, "Wouldn't it be great if...wait - she's up!" Yes, Lansbury got out of her seat, bowed, and got a standing ovation! Certainly a special moment (which we caught on camera, of course). Christopher Meloni certainly doesn't mind attention from the gays. One fan recently Tweeted, "@Chris_Meloni: I finished the Oz series two days and I'm depressed about it (especially with the end of your character). How to handle?"
