On Saturday March 29, there were many events. The day started out with day 1 of the annual Palm Beach Pride at Bryant Park in Lake Worth. The Parade and second day of the festival took place on Sunday and once again he weekend was a huge success.

Later that night there were two annual Gala’s. The bad news of two galas on one night is I cant enjoy the full program of each gala, but the good news is I only had to come up with one outfit…LOL. I started the evening at the Latino’s Salud annual Gala where they took it to another level by

having their Gala at the Broward Center for the performing Arts. Afterwards I went to The Venue Fort Lauderdale for the annual Sunserve Gala which this year was entitled “Bloom.” Both galas were sold out and amazing!

Also on the 29, The Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts presented Miss Richfield 1981“PHONY BALONEY”. Once again Miss Richfield sold out and delivers a show like only she can!

On Monday, March 31, Arianna’s Center, Transinclusive Group, Transocial and The Mckenzie Project presented Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) at the Pride Center at Equality Park. The event was hosted by Hotspots Happening Out’s own FayWhat, host of the FayWhat?, and featured food courtesy of Sunserve, many wonderful speakers, entertainers and awards.

On Sunday, April 6, The West End Lounge celebrated their one-year anniversary, on the actual date they opened. While the celebration was all

day, the main event was from 38pm, where they showcased a few of the performers who have become fan favorites at the lounge Beau Cornelius, Alexander Zenoz, and DJ Adriane Rose. Congrats on a successful year and anniversary and wish the entire West End team many more years of success!

Miami Beach Pride 2025

Starting on Thursday, March 27, the 9-day festival of Miami Beach Pride began and featured events for everyone all leading up to the 2-day beach festival on Saturday and Sunday April 5 and 6, with the parade on the 6th at noon. Congrats to Bruce and the entire board, and volunteers for putting together another HUGELY successful festival!

Planning for the Future: The Pet Legacy Program

While we focus on the immediate needs of pets and their owners, we also recognize the importance of long-term planning. That’s why we created the Pet Legacy Program—a first-of-its-kind safety net for pets whose owners can no longer care for them due to illness, disability, or passing.

Creating a Pet-Friendly Palace

As much as you love your pets and work hard to make them part of the family, they’re also a big responsibility. Part of that responsibility includes setting up your home so it’s equal parts stylish (for you) and functional (for your pets). Show furry friends a little love, beyond the walks and snuggles, by making your home more pet friendly.

Set Up Their Space Near an Entry

It’s common for pet owners to desire a space to keep all their furry friends’ belongings and avoid clutter. Ensure convenience and cleanliness by establishing an area near the door where you can store leashes, collars,

Les Misérables

the World’s Most Popular Musical April 22 – 27 Arts Presents

Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables, takes place in West Palm Beach at The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from April 22 – 27, 2025.

Cameron Mackintosh said, “The phenomenon of Les Misérables never fails to astound me. No show in history has been able to continually reinvent itself and remain a contemporary musical attracting new generations of brilliant new talent, many of whom go on to international stardom. No show in the world has ever demonstrated the survival of the human spirit better than Les Miz, and it's time to let the people sing again. We are all thrilled to be Bringing Her Home to you."

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love,

passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. This epic and uplifting story has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history.

Boublil & Schönberg’s magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear The People Sing?,” “One Day More,” “Master of the House” and many more. Seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries, 438 cities and 22 languages, Les Misérables is undisputedly still one of the world’s most popular musicals.

The cast consists of: Nick Cartell (Jean Valjean), Nick Rehberger (Javert), Lindsay Heather Pearce (Fantine), Matt Crowle (Thénardier), Victoria Huston-Elem (Madame Thénardier), Christian Mark Gibbs (Enjolras), Mya Rena Hunter (Éponine), Jake David Smith (Marius), Delaney Guyer (Cosette),

Huston-Elem (Madame Thénardier), for this exclusive Hotspots interview: At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?

I blame my mother as she was a big theater fan her whole life and when I was in 2nd grade she started a drama club. She didn’t have a babysitter so she took me and my childhood best friend to the drama club, and shortly after the first couple lessons my

best friend marched up to my mom and demanded we be in the show, so I kind of didn’t have a choice. I ended up loving it and my mom has been supportive ever since.

What was your first professional gig?

I guess my first true professional gig would have been when I was at Syracuse University. The college is connected to Syracuse Stage, which is an equity theater, so I ended up doing “Big River” and “The Sound of Music” there. It was a great experience all around.

When did you know performing would be your career?

I don’t know if I even have had that realization. Every job feels like a miracle, and I am grateful that (except for the pandemic) I haven’t had to carry a survival job. Since 2016 acting and performing has been my main source of income and I am grateful to say that.

Is there extra pressure being in such an iconic show?

I wouldn’t call it pressure but rather a responsibility, as it has a long and rich history in musical theater, and with the fans. I gladly carry it, and I truly have never been part of a show that is received the way Les Misérables is. It truly is an honor. I am forever part of this history and the importance of that is not lost on me. I am also having the time of my life.

Les Misérables tells a very serious story, but you play the comic relief, how is that?

What a gift. It is my responsibility to give people a little relief from a story that is heavy. It really is the most fun as people are hungry for it by the time I get on stage. It’s such a joy to get out there and make the people laugh.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?

They are all so different that comparing them is so hard, but I dd this off-Broadway show called “Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge,” and I just loved the score and music so much and that specific group of people, that it just has a special place in my heart. If there

On Swift Horses (USA, 2025) will open the spring festival on Thursday, April 17, at 7pm, at Regal Cinemas South Beach. Set in the 1950s, this gorgeous adaptation of Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel follows a seemingly sensible newlywed Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her wayward brother-in-law (Jacob Elordi) as they undertake parallel journeys of risk, romance, and self-discovery. Directed by Daniel Minahan, the film also stars Will Poulter and Diego Calva. An afterparty at The Rum Room will take place immediately following the screening.

The following evening places the focus on Latin filmmaking with the Noche Latina East Coast premiere of Fine Young Men (Hombres Integros) (Mexico, 2024) at 7:15pm at Regal Cinemas South Beach.

Directed by Alejandro Andrade Pease, this coming-of-age drama about identity follows Alf, a student at a strict Catholic school, who finds himself drawn to Oliver, a charismatic new classmate. As their bond deepens, Alf distances himself from his longtime friends. However, when faced with peer pressure and societal expectations, he betrays Oliver in a desperate attempt to assert his masculinity. An afterparty at Twisted Tonic Rooftop with light bites and an open bar will follow the screening.

This edition, OUTshine has expanded its Men’s and Ladies Spotlight Films to both counties. On April 19, the Ladies Spotlight Sisters (Canada, 2024), a heartfelt tale of love, identity, and belonging, and the Men’s Spotlight North American premiere of Streets of Gloria (Ruas da Gloria) (Brazil, 2024), a bold, sultry exploration of love and desire, set against the vibrant yet unforgiving backdrop of Rio’s nightlife, will screen beginning at 7pm at Regal Cinemas South Beach. Friends

Florida Shorts Showcase with a special Cocktails & Cinema™ reception at 7 p.m. at O Cinema South Beach (1130 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). This bi-annual showing celebrates South Florida filmmakers - from students to seasoned veterans of the industry. This is a combination of queer filmmakers making queer films, queer people behind the camera, and queer actors from South Florida. There will be a Q&A with filmmakers, cast and crew after the screenings plus a Tito’s Vodka open-bar afterparty.

Accidental Friends (Amici Per Caso) (Italy, 2024) takes the focus as both an international premiere and this season’s Centerpiece Film screening at 7:30pm on April 24 at Regal Dania Pointe (128 Sunset Dr, Dania Beach). In this Odd Couple-style comedy, two roommates with contrasting lifestyles, must cohabitate despite their differences. Omero's sexual orientation fuels Pietro's homophobia, leading to conflicts. Over time, they learn to understand and appreciate each other beyond prejudice. The film is directed by Max Nardari. An afterparty will follow at Bowlero (also at Dania Pointe).

“Now, more than ever, it’s important for us to share the cinematic stories, stars and directors whose creative visions urge us to embrace our differences and foster a sense of unity and belonging,” said Joe Bilancio,

director of programming, OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

“We have meticulously curated a glowing roster of award-winning LGBTQ+ films and we’re thrilled to host several premieres that offer thought-provoking viewpoints, dramatic emotional escapes, eye-opening documentaries and situational comedies that promote tolerance, equality, understanding and empathy.”

Capitalizing on that sentiment, OUTshine is proud to present the world premiere of the documentary Latter-Day Glory: The Aftermath of Growing Up Queer in the LDS Church (USA, 2025). Directors Brandon Deyette and Chucho E. Quintero follow two queer ex-Mormon missionaries embarking on a transformative journey across America, uncovering the devastating effects of religious dogma on LGBTQ+ members of the LDS Church.

This season’s North American premieres include the dramatic thriller Queerpanorama (USA/Hong Kong/China, 2025), Becoming Ana (La Mitad de Ana) (Spain, 2024), an intimate, honest portrait of a mother and child seeking to recognize themselves and each other; To Live, To Die, To Live Again (Vivre Mourir Renaitre) (France, 2024), a love triangle shattered by the emergence of the AIDS crisis in the ‘90s; Blue For A Boy (Azul de Nino) (Spain, 2024), the dramatic uncovering of an expected affair; Some Nights I Feel Like Walking (Mõnel õhtul tahaksin jalutada) (Philippines/Italy/ Singapore, 2025) and All For One (France/Belgium, 2025), a queer, feminist retelling of The Three Musketeers following four women tasked with protecting the Queen of France.

(Argentina, 2024) and A Night Like This (UK, 2025) and the first East Coast runs of The Big Johnson (USA, 2025), a documentary chronicling the life of Dean Johnson – trailblazing drag queen, rock star, LGBTQI activist, junkie, genius, escort then John Doe; John Cranko (Germany, 2024), starring Sam Riley, a dance-infused tribute biopic to the virtuoso choreographer and Odd Fish (Iceland, 2024), an endearing

dramedy testing the limits of friendship and transformational acceptance. An April 27 Drag Brunch, themed after the cult film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! How did Body Tek start?

I was always into fitness, I started at 13, and I started working at Golds Gym at 15. Back in the day what we do now was called ‘Super Setting” which is now known as Interval Training. I then decided to open Body Tek in my garage in 2010. I outgrew my house in a few months, and that’s when I knew I had to find a retail location. I opened my first studio in Davie and then 3 months later I opened the Wilton Manors Location. So, in the last 15 years, how has the industry changed and is it everything you want?

It’s changed in the fact that people are more aware of the total body workout, and we use different types of equipment. We have created such a huge community that I love what I do and it’s everything I wanted it to be and more.

What’s the best compliment you have had from a member?

When a member can get off almost all their meds, it’s the biggest compliment that we were able to get people into a healthier

here for a birthday party and that’s where we met.

Was it love at first sight?

It really wasn’t as we were bros at first as he was a personal trainer, and I was dating a guy from Canada. The guy from Canada had to go back to Canada and about 2 months later Trey came down to visit me and he never left.

I heard you guys are married, when did that happen?

We got married in Tahiti in 2022. How did Only Fans Happen?

I have never been ashamed of my body, I am always naked (for those of us who have known Mikey for years there is no shock…LOL), and I have been contemplating it for a year and a half. Trey actually pushed me to do it, so 1 weeks ago I did it and so far 100 people have signed up and paid. (This interview was done mid-March)

What are you going to do with all this extra money?

I will go travelling in my RV that has been

Dog Grooming Advice to Keep Pets Clean and Healthy

Regular grooming can keep your dog looking and smelling his or her best, but it’s also important for maintaining health. If you choose to groom at home rather than opting for (often expensive) professional care, it’s also an opportunity to examine your pet for potential concerns. A proper grooming routine starts with the right tools. Consider these suggestions from The Humane Society of the United States:

• Dog-friendly nail clippers

• Rubber-bristled brush

• Dog-friendly toothbrush and toothpaste

• Dog-friendly shampoo and conditioner

• Cotton balls

• Blunt-ended shears or small clippers with guides

• Microfiber towel

Trimming Nails

When your dog’s nails nearly touch the ground, it’s time for a trim, typically every 3-4 weeks. Trimming the part of the nail that turns down helps prevent pain and damage to paws.

If your dog has white nails, avoid cutting the

“quick,” the pink part that’s visible on white nails, which bleeds when cut. For dark nails, simply trim a bit at a time until evidence of the quick is visible.

Bathing and Brushing

Frequency for baths and brushing depends on your dog’s coat type – be sure to research optimal grooming schedules based on his or her breed. In general, The Humane Society of the United States recommends these guidelines:

• Short, smooth or wiry coat: Brush once a week with a rubber-bristled brush.

• Long, silky or curly coat: Brush once a day with a rubber-bristled brush or wire slicker brush. Use a steel comb to prevent tangles or mats, if necessary.

• Double coat: Use an undercoat rake or de-shedding tool to gently de-shed once a week in addition to regular brushing routines.

When it’s bath time, use a shampoo formulated for dogs and a damp cloth or cotton ball to clean around the eyes and ears without pushing anything into the eyes or ears. Dry with a microfiber towel or hair dryer on a low setting.

Cutting Fur

Be careful and work slowly to avoid mistakes and keep your dog calm and comfortable. Brush, bathe and completely dry prior to cutting fur with blunt-ended shears or small clippers with guide combs. Specifically trim hair covering the eyes and private areas and between your pup’s paw pads. It may be helpful to watch a tutorial online to ensure success.

Brushing Teeth

You can prevent gum disease and plaque buildup by brushing your dog’s teeth with a soft toothbrush and dog-friendly toothpaste. Make sure your pet is comfortable and start slow, staying on the outside surfaces of teeth and gently rubbing back and forth. Focus on the area where the tooth surface meets the gum.

Attract Backyard Birds with the Right Seeds The Pet Edition

While almost all bird seeds may look pretty much the same to you, it doesn’t to the birds you’re feeding. Knowing what kinds of seeds different birds like can help you attract a variety of fine feathered friends to your feeders.

Consider these popular seed types and the common backyard birds they attract:

Sunflower – Black sunflower seeds attract blue jays, goldfinches, woodpeckers, purple finches, chickadees, titmice and nuthatches. Striped sunflower seeds appeal to chickadees, doves, grosbeaks, northern cardinals, nuthatches, titmice and woodpeckers. Sunflower hearts (also known as “hulled sunflower” and “sunflower chips”)

sunflower seeds. Because they are bitter, grackles, blue jays, starlings – and squirrels –don’t like them. However, they do attract doves, purple finches, chickadees, titmice and downy woodpeckers.

White millet – Good for scattering on the ground, white millet attracts ground feeders such as juncos, sparrows, indigo buntings, towhees and mourning doves.

Cracked corn – Popular with ground feeders, cracked corn appeals to doves, crows, jays, sparrows, juncos and towhees. Avoid getting finely cracked corn as it’s vulnerable to rot and can quickly turn to mush.

April 15 -19

CLUE, the hilarious murder mystery comedy inspired by the Hasbro board game and adapted from the fan-favorite film, comes to the Raymond F. Kravis Center from April 15 to 19 as an addition to the Kravis On Broadway line-up.

The cast includes Christina Anthony as Miss Scarlet, Mariah Burks as the Cook, David Hess as Colonel Mustard, Donna English as Mrs. White, John Shartzer as Mr. Green, Jeff Skowron as Wadsworth, Evan Zes as Professor Plum, Alex Syiek as Mr. Boddy, Teddy Trice as the Cop, and Elisabeth Yancey as Yvette. The u n de r s tu die s are Greg Balla, Cassandra Marie Murphy, Mary McNulty and James Taylor Odom.

Led by Broadway Director Casey Hushion (Associate Director of Mean Girls and The Prom, Associate Resident Director of Aladdin, choreography for the Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), murder and blackmail are on the menu when six mysterious guests assemble at Boddy

Manor for a night they’ll never forget! Was it Mrs. Peacock in the study with the knife? Or was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench? Based on the fan-favorite 1985 Paramount Pictures movie and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, CLUE is the ultimate whodunit that will leave you dying of laughter and keep you guessing until the final twist.

CLUE is based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. Written by Sandy Rustin with additional material by Hunter Foster and Eric Price. It features original music by Michael Holland.

franchise began in 1949 with the manufacture of the ‘Cluedo’ board game. Currently owned and published by Hasbro, the game has since sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. A murder-mystery comedy film by Paramount Pictures based on the board game was released in 1985 and went on to achieve cult classic status with a passionate fanbase.

The North American tour of CLUE is produced by The Araca Group, Work Light Productions, Lively McCabe Entertainment and Aged in Wood. It was a pleasure to sit down with David Hess (Colonel Mustard) for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?

I grew up in Lakeland Florida, and my father was a choir director in church. He wanted me to sing, but I was way too shy. I started playing the trumpet to get out of it and stayed doing that for a long time. When I went to get my master’s degree my engagement broke off and I was a mess, so I left graduate school to go to Vegas to try and be a professional trumpet player. I felt that I wasn’t as good as some of the other trumpet players, and I was watching an episode of Mash and a light went on and I decided I was supposed to be an actor. What was your first professional gig acting?

It was at a Theater called the Playmakers in Tampa. I played Bruce in the Play “Beyond Therapy.” It was a comedy, and I played a bisexual.

When did you know performing would be your career?

When I saw that Mash episode, I just knew.

Other than this show, what has been your favorite role so far?

It was when I was in the Broadway company of “Sweeney Todd” in 2005/06, and I was a standby for Sweeny and then I was cast as Sweeny in the Broadway tour. It’s such a rich and classic show and it was a huge experience for me. What’s your fantasy role (a role you haven’t played but would die to play)?

I don’t think I have one. I have been an actor for 42 years and I kind of just enjoy the process. However, there was a time I wanted to play Jean Val Jean in Les Miz, and

they always wanted to cast me as Javert, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Describe yourself in 3 words?

Passionate, playful, and loving

What do you do for fun?

I get great joy out of watching any Gator sports I can, as I have spent so much of my life in Florida I am a huge fan! Since we all grew up playing Clue and many of us saw the movie, is there extra pressure playing such an iconic character that almost everyone knows?

Not really, because Col Mustard is viewed by so many in different ways. Our play is very much based on the movie, and I tend to give every character a personal approach, so I have great fun with it. Finally, what should our readers expect from this touring company of “Clue?”

It’s a lot of fun and the theaters we have played all over the country really have fun. Of all the shows I have been cast in, in my 42-year career this one gets the most laughs. The show is a little less than 90 minutes with no intermission, so it’s nonstop laughs.

The Ultimate Guide to Posture, Safe Exercise, and Injury Prevention

Ever feel like your posture is betraying you? One minute you’re standing tall, and the next, you’re hunched over like a shrimp scrolling through your phone. Poor posture isn’t just a bad look, it can lead to aches, pains, and even injuries during workouts. But don’t worry! With a few simple tweaks to your posture, exercise routine, and recovery habits, you can move better, train smarter, and stay injury-free. Let’s dive into the essentials of working out safely and keeping your body in top shape!

Posture: The Foundation of Movement

Good posture is like a strong house foundation, it keeps everything in place and prevents problems down the road. Whether you’re standing, sitting, or exercising, here’s how to keep your posture in check.

Perfecting Your Posture

Standing: Keep your shoulders relaxed (not hunched), ears aligned with your shoulders, core engaged, and weight evenly distributed on both feet. Imagine a string pulling you up from the top of your head like a Christmas ornament.

Sitting: Keep your back straight, feet flat on the floor, and avoid crossing your legs for long periods. Make sure your screen is at eye level to prevent “tech neck.”

Working Out: Maintain a neutral spine, avoiding excessive arching or rounding, especially during lifts. Good form = better results and fewer injuries!

Safe Exercise: Train Smart, Not Hard

We all love pushing our limits but overdoing it can lead to injuries. Here’s how

to exercise safely while still making gains:

Warm Up Like You Mean It

A proper warm-up preps your muscles and joints for action. Try 5-10 minutes of dynamic stretches (think arm circles, hip openers, and lunges) to get your blood flowing.

Master the Basics First

Don’t rush into advanced movements before nailing the basics. Proper squats, deadlift, and push-up form will save you from pain later. When in doubt, slow it down and focus on technique!

Listen to Your Body

Pain is not gain, it’s a warning! If something feels off, stop and reassess. Soreness is okay, but sharp or persistent pain is a red flag.

Engage Your Core

Your core is your body’s powerhouse. Activating your abs protects your spine, improves stability, and makes every exercise more effective. Whether lifting weights or running, think about drawing your belly button toward your spine.

Progress Gradually

Jumping from zero to hero overnight is a recipe for injury. Increase weight, intensity, and duration gradually to let your muscles and joints adapt.

Injury Prevention: Stay in the Game

Nobody likes being sidelined by an injury. Keep yourself moving safely with these golden rules:

Prioritize Mobility & Flexibility

Tight muscles lead to poor movement and potential injuries.

Incorporate stretching and mobility exercises into your routine—yoga, foam rolling, and resistance band work do wonders.

Strengthen Your Weak Spots

Muscle imbalances cause misalignment and injuries. Strengthen your back, hips, and glutes to support your posture and prevent knee or lower back pain.

Rest & Recover Like a Champ

Recovery isn’t lazy, it’s necessary. Sleep, hydration, and rest days keep your body strong and ready for action. Don’t ignore it!

Supportive shoes, proper workout attire, and well-maintained equipment

Good posture, safe exercise, and injury prevention go hand better body awareness, training smart, and yourself, you’ll stay pain-free, perform better, and enjoy movement. So, stand tall, move strong, and keep crushing your fitness goals!
