He's brought an exciting new menu along with him, featuring authentic dishes, such as makhani ravioli, and drinks like truffle mushroom filter coffee. BAvARiAn BiTES Licensed from the original Hofbräuhaus in Munich, you’ll find Dubai’s outpost inside JW Marriott Marquis Dubai (+971 4 607 7588, jwmarriottmarquisdubailife. com), where it has built up a loyal crowd over 20 years. They come here for the first rate atmosphere and German staples – the outsized sausage platter will slay any appetite you care to bring to the table. At the opposite end of town, Der Keller (+971 4 432 3232, jumeirah.com), at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, you’ll enjoy honed-to-perfection dishes like marinated braised beef and potato dumplings. Set to close for refurbishment from mid-May, get in there quick for a final feast.

GooD GREEK While Dubai is not exactly overflowing with Greek restaurants, it does boast some truly excellent ones. In-the-know locals will point you towards Elia

In the kitchen is Cretan head chef Poppy Kourkoutaki, while charming restaurant manager (and fellow Crete local) Margianna Mavridou heads up the front-of-house team. The menu is divided into Greek classics – the cheese saganaki and chicken souvlaki are standouts – and more contemporary interpretations such as slow-cooked veal cheeks with eggplant purée. Don’t leave without trying the freshly baked carob bread.
