SURFING

Esmeraldas is the ideal place for surf lovers, and the beach at Mompiche is world renowned as one of the best sites to practice this sport. Mompiche possesses the second longest wave on this side of the Pacific Ocean, almost a kilometer in length, which makes it tan obligatory destination as much for the national surfer as for the international.

The Tsáchilas are an ethnic group distributed in communities located around Santo Domingo de Los Tsachilas, in western Ecuador. MACHE CHINDUL WATERFALLS

The name of the Mache Chindul Ecological Reserve comes from the small mountain ranges on which it is located, the last obstacle before reaching the Pacific Ocean from the continent’s interior. It has 119,172 hectares which protect remnants of humid and dry tropical forests at elevations from 200 to 800 meters above sea level at the tops of the mountains. The Native flora, which characterizes the forest of guadua (bamboo), shows us the generous nature of the sector. As you walk the paths, it is possible to find a large amount of orchids, bromelías and Heliconias. The paths also allow the observation of birds such as toucans, tángara and pájaro brujo (wizards bird). Over 82 species of birds can be identified in this area. A variety of amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrate, plus 21 native species of mammals can also be observed. Also known as the “Miniature Galapagos�, is one of the most important places of the Machalilla National Park. From prehistoric times it was used as a place for worshiping the Sun and the exchange of the famous Spondylus seashell.
