For people who don’t know can you tell us a little bit about Loaf?

We make laid-back furniture for people to kick off their shoes and lead happier, more relaxed lives. I once lost a whole Saturday trying to buy a bed so I decided to make the shopping experience as hassle-free, affordable and speedy as possible. Two years, 187 mattress factories and some seriously comfy beds later, Loaf (Loaf.com) was born. In just seven years we’ve grown from our original 12 beds and one perfect mattress to become a one-stop shop for the whole home. Our comfy sofas and upholstered beds are handmade in Long Eaton, Derbyshire - the heart of British upholstery making. And our mattresses are made in Wiltshire!

You can come and test out our loafing wares at our first store called the Loaf Shack which we opened in Battersea this autumn.

Why did you want to open the Loaf Shack?

Our aim has been to make shopping for furniture online as easy and as hassle-free as possible. But there are still lots of people that want to bounce around on the beds and sit on the sofas before they buy. So in answer to our customers we’ve created a seriously beautiful, bells and whistles store filled with things to make people smile.

What other treats do you have in the Loaf shack?

We want people to really kick-back and relax at our new home so there are chill-out areas with old school games (think Space Invaders and table football!) and you can even tuck into a couple of scoops of ice cream at our traditional-style parlour. There’s a fun-filled Little Loafers corner to keep the kids busy too.

For the first time we’re offering a cherry-picked collection of takeaway gifts and accessories including organic candles, bath smellies, tableware, cashmere blankets and other essential loafing supplies.

Where else can people visit you?

We’ve also got our Notting Hill Den just off Ladbroke Grove which is our original 5,000 square foot showroomstyle space. And we’re planning to roll out 10 more Loaf Shacks in the next few years so watch this space.

There’s definitely more to come!

What do you see as the key trends for Autumn/Spring 2016?

We don’t really follow trends here at Loaf but I do head to my sister’s house for the next big thing, she’s always five years ahead. Her house looks like a rock star’s home! It’s got a nod to the ‘80s with strong bright colours.

And we’ve noticed that our customers are becoming more adventurous and braver with colour in their homes too. A few years ago it was all about neutrals but I think now with sites like Pinterest and plenty of good inspiration out there, it’s easier to get bolder colours right. We shot our Pudding sofa in a punchy Burnt Orange velvet and it’s been the real hit since launching. It’s a fresh take on a classic design but not as “out there” as you’d think. Like a tin of baked beans, it just works. Plus, our rug maker says with complete authority that burnt yellow is going to be the next big thing colour-wise so keep an eye out for new shades in our SS16 collection.

What makes a perfect home for you?

I’m not sure there is such a thing as a perfect home. But we’re all about helping to create happy homes. I think the happiest homes are the ones that evolve over time and tell a story. They should be an extension of who we are where you can put your feet up and be yourself.

At home we have a big living room, kitchen, dining room and playroom rolled into one. The ground floor space is on one level and forms a ‘U’ shape around the house. The kids love whizzing around on their trikes. The rooms have high-ceilings, light wooden Dinesen floors for a clean Scandi look, neutral mid-century furniture, pops of colour with quirky ethnic pieces, our new chunky-knit ‘Bug’ pouffes, a colourful striped ‘Finca’ rug and a giant magnetic blackboard. I also ordered our Crumpet sofa in a large so that me, my wife, and our three kids can all loaf about on there together. What was the inspiration behind Ziggiziggi.com?

My family – they always commented on my eye for design and use of colour. They encouraged me to start a designer home accessory niche within our family group of commercial companies - Hart Interiors. At first I held product parties with friends to gauge their reaction to Ziggiziggi.com’s early products. This was usually very positive. Never did I entertain at the start that Ziggiziggi.com’s products would be sold across the UK, Europe and even the US from our website. It still is amazing to see Ziggiziggi.com’s products featured in national newspapers and magazines and we are so pleased to be giving this interview with Hot Brands Cool Places magazine.

How has your brand changed and adapted over the years?

It’s hard to believe that it will be 8 years on the 8th May, since ZiggiZiggi started out in a Portakabin. Back in 2007 we were selling a small range of taps and other bathroom accessories. However, from small beginnings we have grown into what is now a standalone, thriving home interiors business. These days Ziggiziggi.com is renowned for offering bright, contemporary kitchen, dining and bathroom items, with a funky edge.

We recently changed our branding to reflect Ziggiziggi’s modern outlook.

What are the key trends in home accessories for Autumn 2015 / Spring 2016?

Ziggiziggi.com is aware that Dulux have announced their 2016 colour as Cherished Gold and this will have an influence on UK designers. Another major influencer is the latest James Bond movie. We already note a designer trend to create cool sophisticated black and white schemes in kitchens, living and bedrooms. We also think that in bathrooms the use of wood and bamboo may see a resurgence again because they are eco beneficial. As natural products they can be grown in a sustainable way. These materials also add warmth and soften the often ultra clinical look of chrome and white. Where white dominates, designers will be incorporating bright colours such as reds, oranges and greens in pictures, clocks and accessories. In kitchens these colours will enhance what otherwise could be boring worktops, benches or sideboards. Our Wesco kitchen scales with clock, cookie and bread bins are available in a range of bright block colours, which will give the kitchen that wow factor.

What does Ziggiziggi.com have planned for the future?

Well first there is Christmas!

Ziggiziggi.com gives our customers the chance to find something a little different this Christmas with our special selection of seasonal gifts ideas and presents - they’ll be appreciated a lot more than a pair of socks!

Favourites will always be the Hedgehog Cheese Grater, the affordable selection of Cappuccino and Espresso coffee cup sets, and the scented candles, diffusers and massage oils that we offer.

For the longer term new products will be added that offer the unique modern and colourful style that our clients like so much.

We are developing a special range of bathroom accessories for children reflecting Ziggiziggi.com’s funky designs and sense of fun.

Ziggiziggi.com has also just launched La Collezione - a new high end range of lighting and furniture.

La Collezione offers really special items that will compliment luxury glamorous designs whilst allowing for the home owner to stamp their own individual personality. The collection includes stunning silver plated floor standing and table candelabra lamps from Fink, the German design company.

We are adding Fink’s silver plated floor standing vases to La Collezione range, as well as minimalist designed occasional wooden tables from London designer Lincoln Rivers at Wireworks. These side tables have an ingenious removable top that can also double up as a tray.

What excites you about your role?

Discovering new products – which are well designed and make you feel special. They may be new to the UK or aren’t regularly available on the High Street – hopefully they will cause a stir when launched. We have pioneered new brands and products in the past and will continue to do so in the future. A regular visit to our website is always advisable – you may be in for a pleasant surprise!

What makes a perfect home for you?

The perfect home for me is all about family and friends and creating the perfect atmosphere for spending time together.

Vases filled with fresh flowers and soft candle light help to achieve a warm and homely ambience. Entertaining is also very important and a lovely table filled with beautiful serving dishes never fails to impress. It’s the personal touches in the home that help show how much you care about your family.

We offer an extensive range of treatments using prestigious brands such as Elemis, OPI and St Tropez, using state of the art equipment.
