& Saddle Equipment Choosing a saddle is very important as it determines the riding comfort for for both horse and rider. A proper fitting saddle can prevent discomfort and injury to your horse. All Saddleworld stores have an accredited saddle fitter to ensure a correct saddle fitting.

When purchasing a saddle you should consider factors such as your budget which will determine the quality of saddle. You should also consider the frequency it will be used, this will determine the lifetime of use the saddle is required to withstand. Your body type and shape will also impact in the size of the saddle you will require.

Finally, your chosen discipline, whether your competing at an elite level or the occasional leisurely ride with friends.

As a general rule, saddles are sold without fittings such as, girths, saddle pads, stirrups and leathers.

Depending on your saddle brand and model, matching tack is available to suit your riding discipline and budget.

In all cases we recommend utilising products that are best suited to your horses shape, ensuring comfort for both horse and rider.

We also recommend to always use a saddle with a numnah or saddle pad in order to give additional protection against rubbing and overheating between the saddle and your horses back.

The entire Pessoa, Anky and Trainer’s saddle ranges are presented with the exclusive adjustable gullet plate X-ChangeŽ system. The rider can modify the width of the tree in 6 easy steps using any of the adjustable gullet plates with only a screwdriver. It is really that simple!

This system does not change the integrity or look of the saddle. The strength and the feel are the same. The tree can perfectly adapt itself to the withers and back of any horse. The tree size can be changed from Narrow up to Extra Extra Wide.

Unscrew the four screws which are placed on both sides of the saddle, underneath the skirt.

Undo the leather cover to be able to reach the exchangeable steel gullet plates.

Change the steel gullet plates for another one of the required size.

Fit the end of the tree points inside the inner pocket.

Tighten the four fixable screws back into place.

The AMS® System has been designed to allow a perfect union between horse and rider. This system eliminates hot spots by dispersing any pressure variances of the flocking within the panels, thanks to the exclusive pressure stabilizing neoprene layer.

THE FOUNDATION

Traditional style wool - and synthetic - flocked panels can bunch up, causing hot spots and uneven pressure. As time goes by, this panel require constant adjustments and reflocking because of shifting during use.

The AMS® system however utilises a sprecial neoprene layer which provides a soft, consistent layer to support the rider’s weight on the back of the horse. This layer will absorb impacts and distribute pressure evenly for maximum comfort and freedom of movement for your horse. Saddles with AMS® panels can be re-flocked and fitted to your horse, just like traditional wool flocked panels.

Classical riders like Nelson Pessoa know exactly where the rider’s weight should fall on the horse’s back. It was Nelson who first designed a tree that would allow the saddle to help the rider find that position.

A Pessoa saddle encourages the riders to find their perfect sweet spot of balance whether it is dressage or jumping.

All Pessoa saddle trees are made of Carbon fibre. This is a very light but incredibly strong material that will save valuable kilos in the total weight of the saddle improving your horses comfort and performance.

Every tree is moulded with polymers specially designed by Dupont®.

The trees bring together flexibility and ultra-light weight, without losing resistance. Metal bands and the adjustable gullet plate grant stability and additional resistance. The anatomical design of the tree allows an unbelievable contact between horse and rider.

All Pessoa Carbon fibre trees come with 20 year guarantee.

The leather and stitching come with a 12 month Warranty from date of purchase.

In order to compare the benefits of the AMS® panels, a series of thermographic images were taken of a horse´s back, utilising standard panels and another with AMS® after 30 minutes of identical exercises*.

Diagram 1A clearly shows an uneven pressure on the surface of a traditional panel via the white colour hot spots, which shows a greater temperature. The corresponding surface temperature shown in Diagram 1B of the horse´s back when utilising traditional panel, shows an uneven and substantial increase in tempurature. Stabilisation of the tempurature took up to three hours post-exercise.

While utlising the AMS® panels Diagram 2A the weight distribution can be seen to be even and without pressure points. Similarly the same is seen on the horse´s back in Diagram 2B. In this case the stabalisation of the tempurature only took an hour.

The distribution of the weight of the AMS® System is more physiological, allowing for an even distribution of pressures on the horse´s back.

MASTER FIT

Provides the right panel depth and shape for your horse and the right top flap size for you. The Master Fit™ System features AMS® panels specifically designed for particular horse conformations.

Plus, in addition to fitting the horse we can also fit you with the ability to have a custom fit top flap.

Alto Panels are for horses with a prominent wither and a greater height distance between their wither and back. It has a deeper panel at the front and back of the saddle, allowing greater clearance over the wither and spine. A front gusset provides extra padding to sit properly behind the wither, where this type of horse usually lacks muscle.

Corto Panels are designed for horses with well developed, short-coupled backs. The panel is shorter to eliminate weighting the loin area, and the gusset is flatter in order to better fit the contours normally found on this type of horse.

The flaps on the PESSOA saddles are available in different size options, according to the height of the rider and length of their legs.

These options offer the rider the freedom of choosing a saddle in the perfect size. Standard size is regular for all saddles, but there are three available options you can choose instead of regular flap. The difference of length between every option is of 1”.

THE PRESTIGE TREE

SADDLES WITH FLOCKED PANELS

The tree in Prestige saddles has been designed to adapt perfectly to the horse and to maintain the best seat for the rider.

Made of a special mix of fibres, it is at least 1 kg lighter than traditional saddles and needs no metal reinforcement.

Panels flocked with a special synthetic fibre that prevents compression of the material and therefore requires less maintenance. These panels are especially suited to horses that are asymmetric between their front and back or vice versa.

This saddle has advantages over those made of natural materials, like wood.

They also offer more options: panels +1 cm / +2 cm at the back or with half stuffing.

Though wood is elastic, it still has “life� in it. For this reason as atmospheric conditions change and the years go by the characteristics of the wood change, becoming less stable and less resistant.

The Prestige tree, on the other hand, was purpose designed to provide the same elasticity as one made of wood, while at the same time, ensuring maximum stability over time. Thats why Prestige offers a lifetime guarantee, except in the case of an accident.

PRESTIGE LEATHER Prestige has developed a special line of leather know as Lux Leather.

The Lux leather has the softness of calfskin leather however it has a high durability Saddles which have flaps made from calf skin leather provide instant softness along with additional grip, therefore this must be taken into consideration as it is not as durable as traditional saddle leather due to its high level of adherence.

In addition, the width of a Prestige saddle can always be altered.

It can be narrowed or widened, depending on the shape of the horse, without having to take the saddle apart.

For this reason even when the shape of the horse changes the product remains usable.

All Prestige Italia saddles come with a lifetime guarantee against any damage to the tree (except in the case of an accident).

The leather and stitching is guaranteed for 2 years from date of manufacture.

The leather, which is used for the panels and the girths, is treated with an anti-sweat process, thus reducing the amount of maintenance required and reinforcing strength within these areas.

Prestige is truly innovative. Prestige has been able to develop a system that offers riders the required closeness while fully ensuring the wellbeing of the horse.

With the new X-Technology closeness to the horse has been obtained through minor adjustments to the tree achieved by a close study of human anatomy - not by resorting to an extreme twist, lengthening the tree supports, or by shifting the centre of gravity rearwards on the seat - all of which can harm the horse.

This has been achieved by applying elastic membranes to the saddle tree that are filled with a special shock-absorbing material in the area corresponding to the lower hip bone. The exact location of the membranes varies according to whether the saddle is for jumping or dressage allowing for the different seating posture.
