In addition to providing technical information on the multitude of sport flooring systems Horner has designed and engineered, this manual contains industryspecific technical reference material which is designed to help provide you with information to assist in resolving problems which may arise on a project both before and after they may occur. Maintaining Your

Wood Sports Floor

To be in compliance with warranty conditions it is the responsibility of the facility owner/managers to maintain their Horner floor under the recommendations outlined in floor specifications and maintenance instructions. Performance and durability are best “maintained” by proper control of relative humidity and temperature. Areas containing wood flooring perform best by adequately providing air circulation by mechanical or natural means. Temperature and humidity must be fully functional and monitored year round.

Sports Vs. Civic Non Sport Use Your wood sports floor is designed to take the rigors of multiple sports activities. In addition, non-sports activities may be an essential part of your facilities usage. Given this, Horner Flooring recommends that your care and maintenance program be designed to accommodate other activities. Please consult Horner Flooring and your local representative to help in designing a maintenance system for all your uses.

USE IT… BUT DON’T ABUSE IT!

Floor Care Essentials Maintenance Products Horner Flooring recommends that before any floor care or refinishing products are used, a full review is done with your installation/maintenance professional recommended and certified by Horner Flooring. There are a lot of products – some of which work better than others.

Excessive expansion or shrinkage in your floor caused by environmental conditions which exceed normal ranges are not the responsibility of Horner Sports Flooring and are not covered by the warranty. Please review with building/facility managers and personnel.

Dust Mopping

Wet Tacking

Monthly and Quarterly Floor Care Your maple floor should be scrubbed and treated with an approved floor cleaner. If an auto scrubber is used, make sure proper training and performance is maintained. Consult Horner Flooring or your certified representative for proper equipment and product usage. Yearly Floor Care Horner Sports Flooring recommends that your maple floor be cleaned, screened and recoated annually with an approved finish. Your warranty may be affected by product and contractor usage. Please consult your warranty and Horner Sports Flooring Representative before this procedure. Please see Yearly/Restorative Coating section. Floor Stain Prevention In the case of spills, be sure to wipe with damp cloth immediately. Use a soft cloth or towel. Note: Be sure that any wet areas are cleaned and dried immediately.

Gum Removal

Damage from Water/Moisture Water or excessive moisture is the main item that can cause damage to your floor. Wood is a hygroscopic material that nature intends to expand and contract under normal conditions. This is by retention and release of moisture within the woods cell structure. Tightening/Cupping If cupping is observed in your wood floor, immediate lowering of relative humidity and introduction of a steady air flow is recommended. This will lower the moisture content in the wood floor system. Contact your authorized floor contractor or Horner Sports Flooring. If cupping is localized it is best to determine the cause of the moisture. Never sand a cupped floor without consultation with a professional and properly preparing the facility.

Shoe Mark Removal and Prevention Shoe marks can be removed with an approved floor cleaner. Different finishes will use different cleaners. Consult your installation and floor care professional for best products. To remove shoe marks: • Rub the mark with a tennis ball attached to a pole or broom handle. (slit the ball and press onto the handle) • Rag dampened in mineral spirits (oil based finishes only). • Red scrub pad with recommended cleaner. Prevent shoe marks by monitoring and recommending only non marking shoes to be allowed on the playing surface. Gum and Tar Removal Removal of gum, tar or adhesives is accomplished by using a plastic scraper and rubbing the area with Mineral Spirits. Also using an ice pack or freeze-it spray to harden the gum or adhesive and then scraping it off with a plastic scraper will work as well. Wipe areas with soft dry cloth towel when removal is complete.

Ventilation, Moisture, Temperature Your hardwood maple floor system is designed to withstand normal variations in humidity and temperature. A fully functional HVAC system providing proper ventilation (air movement) will prevent changes in the floor systems shape and appearance. The HVAC system must be adjusted to maintain room temperatures between 55-80°F. If during high humidity outdoor periods the space gains humidity in excess of 55% immediate air movement and exhaust of moisture laden air must be accomplished. During warm humid seasons regular inspections of the space and floor should be conducted. Please consult the facilities HVAC provider so that these recommendations and requirements are fully understood. Better air circulation can be achieved if interior doors remain open and the air circulation system is operating. If humidity levels in the facility drop below 35% (geographically sensitive) Horner Sports Flooring recommends that humidity be introduced into the space to avoid excessive shrinkage.

Daily Floor Care To protect the finish, appearance and performance of your floor, it’s imperative that daily sweeping/mopping of your floor is conducted. Dust, dirt and debris are best removed with the recommended mop and floor cleaner. Proper daily cleaning maintains the correct surface friction and athletic performance characteristics by reducing slips and inconsistent stops. DON’T JUST PUSH THE DUST……..REMOVE THE DUST! Entrance/Walk-off Mats Depending on the outside areas specific to your floor, catching dirt and dust before it gets on the floor is one of the best ways to extend the appearance and performance of the wood floor. Placing walk-off and entrance mats designed to catch dirt and grit in heavy traffic areas helps protect the floor. Horner Flooring recommends placing mats directly outside or at the entrances of the floor. Regular cleaning and vacuuming of mats will ensure best results.

Excessive Gaps (Cracks Between Floor Boards) Your floor may have intermittent “gaps” or internal expansion provision built into the system during installation. This is to allow for normal expansion and contraction that occur throughout the seasons. Depending on specific site and seasonal conditions at the time of the installation varying degrees of built-in provisions will occur. These are normal and questions concerning these should be directed to your authorized installation contractor. Excessive gaps occur due to low humidity levels or excessive dryness in the facility. This can be remedied by introducing higher humidity/moisture laden air into the space. Contract your floor care professional or Horner Sports Flooring for other corrective measures. Moisture Exposure Prevention Some items to watch for: • Abnormal dampness/condensation • Exterior door thresholds and window seals need to be weather tight • Ceiling or pipe/drain leaks must be corrected immediately • Excessive water from foot traffic should be dried or corrected immediately • Monitor relative humidity levels regularly • Roof drains should be kept clear and drain away from the building • Report any abnormal visual or measurement (temp/RH) to building manager Expansion Joints Your floor has designed-in expansion joints. Never block or obstruct any expansion joints at the perimeter or vertical obstructions (i.e. columns, game inserts, bleachers). Bleacher Systems Be certain that your floor is designed to take rolling and point loads that the bleachers will place on the floor system. Bleacher wheels should be designed for wood floors. Regular cleaning behind and beneath bleachers will prevent undue wear and unsightly marring and scratching of the floor.

Yearly/Regular Restorative Coating Horner Sports Flooring recommends that your maple floor be cleaned, screened and recoated annually with an approved finish. Your warranty may be affected by product and contractor usage. Please consult your warranty and Horner Sports Flooring Representative before this procedure. Depending on daily maintenance, traffic and usage, your floor may require a more aggressive recoating program. Horner Flooring recommends the use of an approved maintenance contractor. Proper scheduling and dry/cure time is essential to the finishes performance. Products vary greatly and overall safety and performance of your floor can be adversely affected if incompatible finishes and products are used. Good workmanship by a professional properly coordinated with the facility staff will make for low life cycle costs as well as other savings. LEED - Green Building Applicability Horner’s Long Life™ product is an excellent candidate to be submitted for a LEED Innovation & Design Process Credit, as it embodies the credit’s stated goal to recognize new technologies for their innovative building features and sustainable building techniques not currently addressed by existing LEED Credits. Horner’s Long Life™ Flooring is more ecologically sound as it minimizes wood waste when a floor has reached maximum wear depth. This is accomplished by shifting the tongue and groove assembly down, resulting in a higher proportion of flooring thickness being dedicated to wear depth. Less lumber is consumed for 25/32" product, regardless of wear depth, than is consumed for 33/32" product.

Availbility With ever-increasing sawmill focus being placed upon 4/4" roughcut lumber, readily obtaining 5/4" lumber in a timely manner to produce 33/32" flooring has become tenuous at best.

Structural Stability Horner’s Long Life™ 25/32" product has the same structural strength and dimensional stability required of regular 25/32" flooring – only the tongue and groove profile has changed.

Application Long Life™ Flooring can be used over any Horner system utilizing at least one single layer of 15/32" plywood or 7/16" OSB or other manufacturer approved subfloor.

SECTION 096466 --- WOOD GYMNASIUM FLOORING PART 1-GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION A.

This document specifies a wood strip athletic floor system consisting, in general, of wood subflooring, maple flooring, vapor retarder, vertical restraints (system specific), sanding, sealers, finishes, game lines, and wall base. The concrete contractor shall provide a concrete slab, smooth troweled and level to a tolerance of 1/8” (3mm) in a 10’0” (3m) radius, subject to the approval of the wood flooring contractor. LABOR AND MATERIALS NECESSARY TO PUT THE CONCRETE SLAB IN ACCEPTABLE CONDITION (HIGH AREAS GROUND DOWN AND LOW AREAS FILLED WITH APPROVED LEVELING COMPOUNDS) SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONCRETE CONTRACTOR. 1. Concrete slab depression shall be: a. 2 ½” (64mm) for 25/32” (20mm) thick flooring. b. 2 ¾” (70mm) for 33/32” (26mm) thick flooring. 2. With a plywood subfloor, the slab depression shall be: a. 2" (51mm) for 25/32” (20mm) thick flooring. b. 2¼" (57mm) for 33/32” (26mm) thick flooring. 3. With an OSB subfloor, the slab depression shall be: a. 1 7/8” (48mm) for 25/32” (20mm) thick flooring. b. 2 1/8" (54mm)for 33/3” (26mm) thick flooring. 2. Concrete subfloors shall have an adequate vapor retarder beneath and at the perimeter of the slab. 3. No pea gravel, river gravel or slag aggregate shall be allowed in the concrete. The concrete strength range at the time of wood flooring installation shall be between 3,000 PSI and 3,500 PSI.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE A.

Supplier Qualifications 1. Supplier of wood flooring shall be Horner Flooring Company. 2. Basis of design shall be “All-Wood” sports floor system as provided by Horner Flooring, www.hornerflooring.com. (800-380-0119). 3. Materials other than those listed must be approved 10 days prior to bid date by written addendum. Materials from non-approved manufacturers will not be accepted. B. Installer Qualifications 1. The flooring contractor shall be a Horner Accredited Installation Company with MFMA Accredited Installer(s) on-site for the duration of the wood floor installation; or, a contractor approved by Horner Flooring. C. Flooring shall be stored on the premises before installation commences as required for acclimation. Final determination as to acclimation will be made by the flooring contractor. D. System shall meet necessary DIN/EN requirements. 1.3 WORKING CONDITIONS A.

The floor system shall not be delivered or installed until the concrete slab is properly cured and all masonry, plastering, tile work and overhead mechanical trades are completed and building is permanently enclosed and weathertight. B. Permanent heat, light and ventilation shall be installed and operative during and after installation, maintaining a temperature range of 55o F (13 o C) to 75o F (24 o C) and a relative humidity range that changes no more than 15% from low to high humidity levels. C. HVAC System shall be operating in balance at levels and conditions consistent with those during permanent occupancy. 1.4 WARRANTY A.

OPTION: Horner Long Life™ flooring if so specified. Vapor retarder shall be 6 mil polyethylene. Subfloor shall be Horner 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) (nominal) Second and Better Gym Grade Hemlock, No. 2 Spruce, Fir, or Pine S2S to ¾" x 6" (19mm x 152mm) x RL (2 layers of 15/32" (12mm). Rated sheathing, exposure 1, plywood, or 7/16" (11mm) OSB may be used in place of 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm)). Horner Foam: ¼" (6mm) multi cellular, closed cell plastic foam. Density: 2.0 PCF. Underlayment tape shall be 2" (51mm) duct tape. Fasteners 1. Subfloor fasteners shall be 1¼" (32mm) nails or staples (1" (25mm) with plywood or OSB). 2 Flooring fasteners shall be 2" (51mm) barbed cleats or 15 gauge (1.8mm) coated staples. OPTION: If Horner Long Life™ is specified, use 1 1/2” (51mm) 15 gauge (1.8mm) staples only. Wall base shall be 3” x 4” (76mm x 102mm) Vent Cove heavy duty molded, vented base with premolded outside corners as supplied by Horner Flooring Company. Specify color: black or brown. Finish material shall be specified from the latest listing provided by the MFMA, and shall be applied according to manufacturer’s instructions. Minimum of 2 seal coats and 2 finish coats. Gameline paint shall be compatible with finish. Stop blocking, where heavy loads are anticipated, stop blocking shall be installed between pad locations.

Cover concrete with 6 mil polyethylene, sealing, and lapping joints a minimum of 4" (102mm). With 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) (nominal) subfloor: 1. Install first layer of 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) subfloor across the long dimension of the room at a O 45 angle. The ends of the 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) shall be butted, leaving a ¼" (6mm) space and the sides spaced 2" (51mm) between adjoining 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm). Provide 2" (51mm) expansion voids at perimeter and all vertical obstructions. 2. The second layer of 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) subfloor shall be laid out 90O to the bottom layer, such that no end joints shall fall over any end joints of the first layer. The ends of the second layer 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) shall also be butted, leaving a ¼" (6mm) space, and the sides spaced 2"

A single 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) border strip shall be installed as part of the second subfloor layer, at right angles to the finish flooring at floor perimeter. C. With All-Wood System II option: 1. Install subfloor as above, but with lower 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) (nominal) layer spaced 12” (305mm) o.c., and upper layer spaced 8” (203mm) o.c. D. With 15/32" (12mm) sheathing plywood or 7/16" (11mm) OSB option: 1. Install two layers of either 15/32" (12mm) sheathing plywood or 7/16" (11mm) OSB so that each layer is 45 degree to the long dimension of the floor and 90 degree to the other layer, leaving a ¼" (6mm) space between adjoining sheets and a 2" (51mm) perimeter expansion void. E. Install finish flooring parallel with main playing court by power nailing or stapling approximately 12” ( 305mm) o.c. Inspect entire area of floor to insure that surface is acceptable for finishing, completely free from sanding dust and perfectly clean. B. Apply seal and finish per finish manufacturer’s instructions. C. Buff and clean floor between each coat or as necessary. D. Paint game lines as shown on drawings, between seal coats. E. Game line paint shall be compatible with finish. 3.5 BASE INSTALLATION A.

Install Vent Cove base, mitering inside corners and anchoring to walls with base cement or screws and anchors.

3.6 MAINTENANCE A.

Upon completion of floor installation, the owner, attendants or individuals in charge and responsible for the upkeep of the building are to see that the care and maintenance instructions outlined within the provided Horner Care and Maintenance Manual are followed. Horner flooring and certified dealers may offer extended warranty and maintenance agreements. It is recommended that any extended agreements include maintenance and recoats by the original installing contractor or related/recommended parties. Install top layer of plywood in a running bond pattern perpendicular (90o) to the bottom layer leaving a 1” (25mm) space along the 8’ (244cm) side and a 2” (51mm) space at the ends of each sheet and installed in a running bond pattern. Subfloor shall be 15/32” x 2’ x 8’ (12mm x 610mm x 244cm) rated sheathing, exposure 1, plywood. Fasteners 1. Flooring fasteners shall be 1-1/4” (51mm) barbed cleat or 15 gauge (1.8mm) coated staples. OPTION: If Horner Long Life™ is specified, use 1 ½” (51mm) 15 gauge (1.8mm) staples only. 2. Subflooring fasteners shall be 1” (25mm) cleats or staples. CRP Restraints shall be 16 gauge (1.6mm) galvanized steel and steel drive pins (anchors). Wall base shall be 3” x 4” (76mm x 102mm) Vent Cove heavy duty molded, vented base with premolded outside corners as supplied by Horner Flooring Company. Specify color: black or brown. Finish material shall be specified from the latest listing provided by the MFMA, and shall be applied according to finish manufacturer’s instructions. Gameline paint shall be compatible with finish. Stop blocking, where heavy loads are anticipated, stop blocking shall be installed between pad locations.

Cover concrete with 6 mil polyethylene, sealing and lapping joints a minimum of 4” (102mm). Locate the center of the area and begin installing the 15/32” x 2’ x 8’ (12mm x 610mm x 244cm) prepadded rated sheathing, exposure 1, plywood so that its center falls directly over the center of the floor area and the long (8’ (244cm)) side is perpendicular to the direction of the finished flooring. Install in a brick pattern, (Running Bond) providing a 3½” (83mm) space around each sheet. o C. Locate the center of the area and install the top layer (not padded) on a 45 angle to the bottom layer and finished floor direction. Begin by placing the first top sheet so that its center falls directly over the center of a bottom sheet and continue by installing in a brick pattern providing a 3½” (83mm) space o around each sheet. When the CRP restraint is specified be certain that the 45 angle is such that the CRP restraint will fit into the space created when the top sheet space is coincident with the bottom sheet space. At least two (2) CRP restraints should be utilized to grasp opposing 8’ (244cm) long sides of each bottom sheet. Try to get one on each half of the sheet where possible. Fasten top and bottom sheets together with 1” (25mm) staples approximately 10-12 (254mm-305mm) inches on center. D. Fasten restraints to concrete with ¼” x 1” (6mm x 25mm) steel drive pins (2 per restraint) or equivalent fastener that will provide a minimum withdrawal strength of 900 lbs.(409kg)

Primer shall be asphalt cut back applied at a coverage of 275 sq.ft./gallon (6.741 m2/liter). Prime concrete at 275 sq.ft./gallon (6.741 m2/liter). Install sleepers across short dimension of the area (perpendicular to the finish floor), 12" (305mm) or 1/2 16" (406mm) o.c., with ends butted and joints staggered by 24" (610mm). Provide a 1 " (51mm) expansion void at the perimeter and all vertical obstructions. Anchor sleepers with drivepins, shimming to level with 1/8" (3mm) or 1/4" (6mm) masonite shims. C. Pour hot-pour asphalt mastic to a level 1/8" (3mm) above bottom of sleepers. D. Subfloor 1. Install 1" x 6" (25mm x 152mm) (nominal) subflooring diagonally to sleepers. Break all joints over sleepers with ends butted and sides spaced 1" (25mm). Securely nail or staple to the sleepers.

The concrete contractor shall provide a concrete slab, smooth troweled and level to a tolerance of 1/8” (3mm) in a 10’0” (3m) radius, subject to the approval of the wood flooring contractor. LABOR AND MATERIALS NECESSARY TO PUT THE CONCRETE SLAB IN ACCEPTABLE CONDITION (HIGH AREAS GROUND DOWN AND LOW AREAS FILLED WITH APPROVED LEVELING COMPOUNDS) SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONCRETE CONTRACTOR. 1. Concrete slab depression to use with 3/4” (19mm) SAFETM pads shall be: a. 2 7/8" (73mm) for 25/32" (20mm) thick flooring. b. 3 1/8” (79mm) for 33/32” (26mm) thick flooring. 2. Horner Flooring Company hereby warrants the flooring materials to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one year from the date of substantial completion. This warranty is expressly limited to the flooring materials supplied by Horner. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, expressed or implied including but not limited to any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and of any other obligations on the part of Horner. This warranty does not cover floor damage caused by conditions beyond our control, such as fire, wind, floor surface chemical action, faulty maintenance, improper ventilation, faulty construction of building, acts of God, ordinary wear and tear, excess moisture and excess dryness, separation of concrete slab, settlement of walls, failure of floor if not installed properly, when installed over poured urethane if poured urethane returns to its liquid state, if poured urethane releases from concrete slab or failure of floor if installed over polyvinyl chloride

synthetic flooring. In the event of breach of any warranty, the liability of Horner shall be limited to repairing or replacing material and system components supplied by Horner and proven to be defective in manufacture, and shall not include any other damages, either direct or consequential. Flooring fasteners shall be 1 ¾” (44mm) or 2” (51mm) barbed cleat or 15 gauge (1.8mm) coated staples, or powercleats. OPTION: If Horner Long Life™ is specified, use 2” (51mm) 15 gauge (1.8mm) staples only. 2. Subfloor fasteners shall be 6d (51mm) nails or 1 ¾” (44mm) staples. Install 12” (305mm) o.c. with 15/32 (12mm) plywood, 14” (356mm) o.c. with 5/8” (16mm) plywood, or 16” (406mm) o.c. with ¾” (19mm) thick plywood, respectively. Begin by cutting starting sleeper in every other row to a length of 4’ (122cm) and continue across the concrete flooring allowing ¼” (6mm) space between the ends of the sleepers. Shim where necessary. Provide a 1½” (38mm) space next to walls or vertical obstructions.

Install plywood of appropriate thickness over the substructure sleepers at a 45o angle providing ¼” 1/2 (6mm) space around the perimeter of each sheet, and 1 ” (51mm) adjacent to walls or vertical obstruction. st E. Concrete subfloors shall have an adequate vapor retarder beneath and at the perimeter of the slab. 3. No pea gravel, river gravel or slag aggregate shall be allowed in the concrete. The concrete strength range at the time of wood flooring installation shall be between 3,000 PSI and 3,500 PSI.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE A.

Supplier Qualifications 1. Supplier of wood flooring shall be Horner Flooring Company. 2. Basis of design shall be “Vari-Cushion” sports floor system as provided by Horner Flooring, www.hornerflooring.com. (800-380-0119). 3. Materials other than those listed must be approved 10 days prior to bid date by written addendum. Materials from non-approved manufacturers will not be accepted. B. Installer Qualifications 1. The flooring contractor shall be a Horner Accredited Installation Company with MFMA Accredited Installer(s) on-site for the duration of the wood floor installation; or, a contractor approved by Horner Flooring. C. Flooring shall be stored on the premises before installation commences as required for acclimation. Final determination as to acclimation will be made by the flooring contractor. D. System shall meet necessary DIN/EN requirements. 1.3 WORKING CONDITIONS A.

The floor system shall not be delivered or installed until the concrete slab is properly cured and all masonry, plastering, tile work and overhead mechanical trades are completed and building is permanently enclosed and weathertight. B. Permanent heat, light and ventilation shall be installed and operative during and after installation, o o o o maintaining a temperature range of 55 F (13 C) to 75 F (24 C) and a relative humidity range that changes no more than 15% from low to high humidity levels. C. HVAC System shall be operating in balance at levels and conditions consistent with those during permanent occupancy. 1.4 WARRANTY A.

PART 2-PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIAL A.

Flooring shall be Horner 33/32" (26mm) or 25/32" (20mm) thick x 2¼" (57mm) or 1½" (38mm) wide First, Second and Better, Third and Better or Third Grade, random length continuous tongue and groove and end-matched MFMA Northern Hard Maple, grade marked and stamped as manufactured by Horner Flooring Company. OPTION: Horner Long Life™ flooring if so specified. OPTION: Horner Multisport flooring, 5/16" (8mm) or 11/16" (12mm) thick Select and Better Grade if so specified. B. Vapor retarder shall be 6 mil polyethylene. C. VARI-CUSHION foam shall be ¼" (6mm), multicellular, closed cell polyethylene foam, 2 PCF. D. VARI-CUSHION pads shall be 2¼" x 3" x 3/8" or 5/8" (57mm x 76mm x 10mm or 16mm) thick, as supplied by Horner Flooring Company, and attached 12" (305mm) o.c. by flooring contractor. E. Subfloor shall be 15/32" x 4' x 8' (12mm x 122cm x 244cm) rated sheathing, exposure 1, plywood or 7/16" (11mm) OSB , as approved by manufacturer. F. Fasteners shall be 2" (51mm) barbed cleat or 15 gauge (1.8mm) coated staples. OPTION: If Horner Long Life™ is specified, use 1 1/2” (51mm) 15 gauge (1.8mm) staples only. G. Wall base shall be 3” x 4” (76mm x 102mm) Vent Cove heavy duty molded, vented base with premolded outside corners as supplied by Horner Flooring Company. Specify color: black or brown. H. Finish material shall be specified from the latest listing provided by the MFMA, and shall be applied according to finish manufacturer’s instructions. Minimum of 2 seal coats and 2 finish coats. I. Gameline paint shall be compatible with finish. J. Stop blocking, where heavy loads are anticipated, stop blocking shall be installed between pad locations. PART 3-EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION A. Inspect concrete slab for proper tolerance and dryness and report any discrepancies to the general contractor for correction. B. The concrete slab shall be cleaned of all debris so flooring contractor will have adequate access to work surface. C. All overhead work, wet trades shall be complete in floor work area. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Cover concrete with 6 mil poly, sealing and lapping joints at a minimum of 4" (102mm.). B. Roll out VARI-CUSHION foam over polyethylene, butting and taping end and side joints. C. With the aid of a stapler, attach 32 Horner THRUST-A-CUSHION pads to the underside of each bottom sheet of 15/32" (12mm) rated sheathing, exposure 1, or 7/16" (11mm) OSB, 12" (305mm) o.c. and 6" (152mm) in from all perimeter edges. D. Install padded bottom layer of 4' x 8' (122cm x 244cm) sheets at a 45 degree angle across the long dimension of the finish floor, leaving a minimum ¼" expansion space between adjoining sheets. E. Install top layer of 4’ x 8' (122cm x 244cm) sheets at a 90 degree angle to the first layer, again leaving a minimum ¼" (6mm) expansion space between adjoining sheets.

Install finish flooring parallel with main playing court by power nailing or stapling approximately 12" (305mm) o.c.. 1. Provide 11/2" (51mm) expansion voids at perimeter and all vertical obstructions. G. LAYOUT - MULTISPORT 1. Locate starting point either by centering off a door, a special focal point in the area, or the center of the area itself. 2. Adjust center lines so they are perpendicular (90 degrees) to each other. After lines are squared, drop chalk lines every thirty-three (33) inches (838mm), and install within the grid formed by the chalk lines. 3. Use Bostik Best Moisture Cure Urethane Adhesive over concrete, wood or particle board. 4. MultiSport units should be installed with hairline expansion spacing along the perimeter of each unit when installed in an alternating square manner. When installing in a unidirectional or parallel pattern it is only necessary to include spacing along the sides of each unit, as maple does not shrink or swell appreciably in the grain direction. H. Stop blocking 4”x4” minimum shall be attached to underside of 1st layer of subfloor allowing a maximum of ¼” less than pad thickness where heavy loads are anticipated. I. Solid blocking shall be attached to areas under bleachers in the closed position. Solid blocking shall match the thickness of system pad. Solid blocking shall be a minimum of 4” wide and 12” O.C. J. Expansion Provisions-Size joints between maple flooring strips to allow for intermediate expansion in accordance with expected humidity changes and conditions in the space. 3.3 FLOOR SANDING A. Machine sand with coarse, medium and fine paper to a smooth, even and uniform surface. B. Remove sanding dust from entire surface by tack of vacuum. C. Refer to MFMA sanding and finishing guide for procedures. 3.4 FINISHING A.

Install Vent Cove base, mitering inside corners and anchoring to walls with base cement or screws and anchors.
