CEO MESSAGE

MARKET PERSPECTIVE

With the COVID-19 epidemic now a shadow behind us, life is returning to normal. I recently attended the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, where the enthusiasm from attendees was palpable. It is clear that Horizon Yachts’ dominant position in Australia’s large yacht market is unmatched. While Australia is a smaller market in comparison to other regions, Horizon enjoys a positive brand image and significant market share, which is an accomplishment we are quite proud of.

Over the last few years, I have been paying close attention to the market movements worldwide, and have observed some phenomena occurring globally that are influencing the purchase actions of yacht owners. These are worth paying attention to:

1. The global economy is transitioning from a period of high growth to a mild adjustment phase, with inflation and rising interest rates leading to a significant decline in purchasing power for goods. The overall willingness to purchase yachts seems to be affected, with some boat owners adopting a temporary wait-andsee attitude.

2. The Russo-Ukrainian War and the US-China trade war have caused chaos in the supply chain of raw materials, including price increases and delivery delays, resulting in idle shipyards. It is hard to believe that some of the most important onboard equipment— such as engines, generators, bow and stern thrusters—have supply lead times longer than the time it takes to build a ship! Sometimes it is necessary to pre-order or increase inventory.

3. Shortage of factory technical manpower is now commonplace. Many of those who left their jobs during the pandemic have not returned, which has caused serious labor shortages in all manufacturing industries, including shipbuilding.

4. The tense situation in the Taiwan Strait, as continuously portrayed by the international media, has sowed doubts in some customers’ minds about investing in yacht building in Taiwan. This has resulted in varying degrees of cash flow pressure for local yards. While these challenges are serious, every competitor is facing the same challenges. Regardless of global developments,

the yachting lifestyle remains desirable and demand for new yacht construction will not disappear. In fact, market demand for large yachts may not even decrease. Therefore, the real focus becomes how to meet customers’ needs and increase one’s own competitiveness.

Thanks to the Horizon Group’s practical and long-term management strategy, we have the ability to cope with the impact of the market climate as described above, and I am confident that we have greater resilience than our competitors.

1. The Horizon Group has continuously cultivated talent and trained new employees, so that in times of labor shortages we have the human resources necessary to meet production needs.

2. In addition to the recent expansion of our shipyard facilities, we have invested in new and updated equipment, including 3D printers, a second-generation five-axis CNC machine and a brand new shiplift facility that will be completed next spring. With a total investment well over $10M, these investments will serve to further strengthen our construction capabilities.

3. Our focus on customer relationships is unparalleled in the large yacht market, and we have committed to expanding our presence at boat shows in various regions as well as hosting rendezvous worldwide to engage with our owners and potential clients. We pride ourselves on our repeat clientele and often see our existing customers choosing Horizon when they are ready to move into a larger vessel. This client retention continues to provide the shipyard with a baseline volume of orders.

4. Our strong financial position and successful products allow us to confidently provide more inventory to meet market demand and reduce new-build wait times for customers.

Economic prosperity is cyclical and at the end of the day, the success or failure of a business rests in its own hands. Horizon’s brand power, management team, production facilities, financial strength and corporate culture serves to underscore the sustainable operation of our company. We have enjoyed continuous growth for the last three years and I believe this to remain true through the end of 2023, thanks in large part to our focus and dedication to prepare and plan ahead for times of market volatility.

Horizon’s increased facilities capacity has allowed for three new yachts—most from the larger end of the FD and RP Series—to comfortably launch within a short timeframe. SOLD TO AUSTRALIAN OWNERS

RP125 Superyacht

This customized RP125 springs from the Raised Pilothouse (RP) platform but features an FD Series High Performance Piercing Bow for enhanced performance. The first notable layout variation of the RP125 is the absence of a raised pilothouse, which was removed to allow for a spacious salon and an exceptional galley area with high ceilings and large windows on the main deck. Set off by a sophisticated interior style highlighted by rich South American walnut and ebony accents, this five-stateroom yacht is fitted with numerous custom touches, including well-equipped deck areas and a spacious beach club. As the largest Horizon yacht sold in the Australian market to date, the RP125 is the new flagship of the Horizon RP Series of yachts.

FD110 Tri-Deck Hull Five

Sold to a repeat Horizon client who previously built the first Tri-Deck FD92, the FD110 features layout modifications to further suit their onboard lifestyle. The owners opted for oak in a satin finish with a high-gloss walnut trim as the main wood throughout the five-stateroom yacht. Subtle Art Deco elements and sunburst themes serve as additional design details, which will continue into the lower deck accommodations that comprise four staterooms and a laundry/storage room. One of the more significant layout changes to this yacht is the forward positioning of the crew quarters. This configuration allows for space aft of the engine room for a private beach club area with storage for dive gear and toys. The new FD110 is also a tri-deck, and as such features a lightweight open flybridge with a wet bar and lounging alongside the helm station. An enclosed skylounge with a dayhead is situated aft of the wheelhouse, and the boat deck aft offers a full bar and seating, while the owners fully kitted out the foredeck with a Jacuzzi tub, plentiful seating and refrigeration and storage.

9 new wave DEFINE YOUR HORIZON SOLD TO AMERICAN OWNERS
The repeat owners specified various customizations to their new tri-deck to suit their lifestyle.

The FD90 is quickly becoming a popular model for the Australian market, and the latest launch is now available for sale. Boasting a five-stateroom layout with a split-use skylounge, beach garage and spacious crew quarters aft, the new FD90 offers an on-deck master suite with mirrored VIPs and two convertible twin staterooms including a Pullman berth. An Italian-inspired interior featuring bleached walnut timber and natural Michelangelo stone presents a young, hip atmosphere, within which lively elements such as a blue velvet Delft pattern rug and armchair, matte black metal trim, backlit silver metallic wall art, and round black feature lighting by Articolo add mood and contrast. To accommodate long-range cruising opportunities, this FD90 features an enlarged fuel capacity of 17,791l (4,700 U.S. gals).

This FD90 is available for immediate delivery in Australia. For more information or to schedule a viewing, please contact Horizon Yacht Australia at +61 7 5577 9009 or email sales@horizonyachtaus.com.

The owners requested a four-stateroom layout comprised of the signature on-deck master suite with three large VIP cabins as well as a spacious custom laundry and storage room on the lower deck. Additional modifications include the incorporation of a wet bar in lieu of the standard staircase on the starboard side of the aft deck as well as a full bar, L-shaped seating and dining and large Jacuzzi tub with a waterfall feature on the boat deck aft of the enclosed skylounge. AWARDS

A GLOBAL NOD

The Horizon FD103 Askari receives global recognition as a Top Five Finalist in the prestigious 2023 World Superyacht Awards and as winner of the Main Salon category of the 2023 International Yacht & Aviation Awards.

It is no easy task to be shortlisted to receive a coveted World Superyacht Award (WSA) Neptune, particularly for any yacht that is semi-production in nature. By and large, the prestigious World Superyacht Awards recognize fully custom builds that sit at the head of their size and type category. However, with the rising popularity and efficiency of proven platforms atop which builders and owners can hone their creations, the growth of semi-custom or semi-production (however you attempt to define them) new builds has created quite an arduous task for the judging teams of this annual event.

This year, the 2022 Horizon FD103 Askari was selected by the World Superyacht Awards’ pre-judging panel—consisting of Boat

International Media’s editors and esteemed journalists— as one of five Finalists in the Semi-Displacement or Planning Motor Yachts, 30-34.99m category. As this is the most popular size range for semi-production builds, the team had to carefully curate the large number of nominations to select the five yachts that best represented uniqueness, innovation and balanced design in this category.

Soon after the WSA announcement, Askari was honored as the winner of the Main Salon category by the 2023 International Yacht & Aviation Awards—an honor that recognized her thoughtful design and custom, owner-specified interior by PLK Design. Every Horizon owner is welcomed to collaborate on the interior design

16 new wave VOLUME 61 // 2023

of their build, and Askari ’s Australian owners seized the opportunity to create an interior that not only reflects their style and tastes, but also celebrates the creativity of Australian designers and product manufacturers.

“We were looking for a boat better suited to our family’s needs; our goal was to achieve the ambience of a high-end floating beach house that reflects our active lifestyle,” said the owner, who was introduced to Horizon’s high-volume FD Series at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

What began as the design of a tri-deck FD92 evolved into the FD103 to accommodate the owners' request for plentiful deck areas. The result is the interior and exterior space of a superyacht atop a proven hull form for the ultimate home on the sea: a five-stateroom layout with an on-deck master suite within three spacious decks comprising an open flybridge and a split-use skylounge.

Askari is designed as a long-range luxury explorer hybrid with a top speed of 22 knots. With an 18,170l (4,800 U.S. gals) fuel capacity and a range of 2,100nm at 9 knots, the yacht is capable of cruising long distances off Australia’s coast without the need to refuel.

While Askari features a traditional layout on the main deck, with an expansive aft deck, a salon highlighted by full-height windows, and a formal dining area and galley forward, it is anything but traditional in its styling. The brief was for an interior that showcased a gradation of grey, for which Horizon selected Alpi Breeze Oak to echo the interior furniture and complemented the interior style with materials in shades of grey.

Gold Coast-based interior design firm PLK Design is responsible for the contemporary interior, with company owner Pete personally selecting the finishes and outfitting accessories. Australian furniture maker Jardan supplied much of the interior furniture, from the dining table and chairs to the tub chairs in the salon, and the owner selected beautiful Cambria stonework as an upgrade throughout. The use of Australian brands continues in

the lighting, with Soktas Hand Blown Glass Lighting providing the main ceiling feature light in the salon as well as the wall lamps in the full-beam master stateroom on the main deck.

Guest accommodations extend from the on-deck master to four spacious staterooms on the lower deck comprising mirrored VIPs amidships and a double cabin forward to port. To starboard, the owners specified a unique bunk ensuite that accommodates guests in two twins and a Pullman berth. Crew quarters for four and a garage are situated aft of the engine room.

The deck areas on this tri-deck FD103 do not disappoint, with the split-use skylounge hosting a bar, dayhead and seating area and extending aft to a full dining area with a large jacuzzi tub. A 15ft Castoldi Jet tender is stowed on the foredeck, while the open flybridge offers plentiful seating and sunbathing opportunities.

To receive prestigious and global recognition from both the World Superyacht Awards and the International Yacht & Aviation Awards is testament to the yacht’s overall quality of design and build as well as the careful consideration given to its custom interior. The International Yacht & Aviation Awards says of Askari ’s interior: “The overall aesthetic of the interiors reflects the owners’ first inspiration so well, making it a project that has separate design identities, but the result is one cohesive design.” (Read the full feature in Vol. 59, page 16.)

Works of Art

As part of an ongoing initiative, Horizon implements a comprehensive equipment renewal plan, including a new PaR Systems 5-Axis CNC Machine.

As each Horizon yacht owner defines his Horizon yacht build, it truly becomes a work of art. Horizon Yachts has directly addressed the evolving complexity of a yacht’s exterior design, the continuous refinement of the fluid lines, and the diverse custom requirements of its clients through its dedicated Tooling Center, which since 2006 has utilized PaR Systems’ 5-Axis equipment to machine the complex shapes necessary for yacht hulls, wind power component molds and other composite materials.

In 2021, in tandem with the shipyard’s $15M facilities expansion, Horizon implemented an equipment renewal plan, which included the installation of a brand new PaR Systems 5-Axis CNC machine accompanied by an accelerated production process, expansion of technology R&D and increased capabilities for precision processing technology and innovative technology applications.

18 new wave VOLUME 61 // 2023
THIS PAGE
Horizon Yachts remains at the forefront of the yacht building industry, thanks in part to the company’s continued investment in cutting-edge technologies.

Based in Shoreview, Minnesota, PaR Systems is a worldleading systems engineering firm specializing in automated manufacturing and materials handling equipment. In operation for over 60 years, PaR Systems has been a long-standing partner of Horizon and is well known in the maritime industry. Recently, PaR Systems supplied the key equipment for the U.S. Navy’s nextgeneration super carrier, the 2025 Ford-class USS John F. Kennedy

Used in medical, aerospace, electronics, motorsports, shipbuilding and any other industry requiring an exacting amount of precision, the 5-Axis machine operates like a pair of artist’s hands with the ability to maneuver multiple degrees, angles and arcs. Aided by digital control systems such as CAD geometry models, wireless spindle probes and 3D measuring instruments, this machine is capable of extremely accurate machining regardless of contour or complexity.

Ten feet tall and occupying a total area of 1,800 square feet, Horizon’s new 5-Axis CNC machine is equivalent in size to the hull mold of a five-stateroom FD90. Whether it is crafting the open upper deck structure of a Horizon yacht model, a dynamic and streamlined hull mold, or much smaller parts—such as custom storage units, tunnels, staircase designs or semi-custom built-ins—the 5-Axis tool can operate 24/7 at high speeds with autonomous positioning and wireless spindle head adjustment in response to Horizon’s proprietary process and designs—a superior shipbuilding craftsman who never stops!

Of the installation and integration process, United Project Center Director Keith Chen said, “The collaboration between

Horizon’s engineers and PaR Systems’ American engineers has been a pleasant experience that has led to professional discussions on the applications of the latest technologies in the yacht building process.”

The CAD/CAM computer-aided design and manufacturing system that accompanies the 5-Axis machine was also upgraded. This modeling software integrates 2D, 3D, point, line, surface, digital twin and simulations to a 0.001mm accuracy. To demonstrate the improvements and technical precision of the new CNC system, Horizon’s yacht design team used reverse engineering technology to carve a sculpture of a dragon—the same design created when the Tooling Center was established in 2006. The distinction and improvement from the first version to the latest was apparent. “Continuous innovation and research and development are core values at Horizon Yachts,” says Assistant Tooling Center Supervisor Andy Tsai. “Our new 5-Axis CNC machine is capable of crafting unique works of art for each of our yacht clients that will last for generations.”

This PC68 boasts an eye-catching new feature: a Portuguese deck seating area with convertible Hi/Lo dinettes, perfect for days spent at anchor.

Often used in restaurants to invite the chef to surprise and delight the patrons with dishes of his choosing, the word “Omakase” in Japanese roughly translates to “I’ll leave it up to you.” Thus, when first-time Horizon clients decided to step into a larger yacht, they selected the new PC68 model and asked The Powercat Company owners Richard and Leigh Ford to outfit it to their preferred finishes and equipment. The result was a stunning debut model that turned heads and ranked as one of the Top 10 yachts to see during the 2023 Palm Beach International Boat Show. (See page 62.)

Positioned at the head of the multi-hulled PowerCat (PC) range that includes the PC52 and PC60 models with options for much larger custom builds, the new, ultraspacious Horizon PC68 has been meticulously planned to meet and exceed the cruising needs of discerning boaters.

Backlit metal art mullions, black elements and hardware by Australian brand ABI Interiors add to the drama of the space. The spacious and well-equipped galley area features both a center and a peninsula island, the latter wrapped in Michelangelo quartzite and featuring a bar with three stools separating the galley from the salon forward. A “Typography Vela” feature light from Australian brand Rakumba highlights the center island, which houses the microwave, ice maker, pull-out folding step stool and large vacuum drawer, while a pull-out pantry and convertible dining table for eight comprise the starboard side opposite. A wall of Rex-Marquinia tile serves as a stunning backdrop for the entertainment center with its 75” television on the forward bulkhead and highlights the salon that features a convivial U-shaped lounge area with leather side table, coffee table and ottomans.

Three multifunctional guest staterooms are situated forward on this deck, and comprise a portside VIP, a convertible twin guest stateroom to starboard, and a convertible VIP with twin beds that rotate into a queen—yet another first for the FD80 model—in the bow.

“We consider the FD80 the introductory model to the FD Series, and as such we have put a lot of focus on this model becoming just as popular as the FD90 in Australia,” says Horizon Yacht Australia Director Mark Western. “A lot of our buyers are looking for aft galleys, so Horizon designed this layout, which is perfect for entertaining. Horizon are dedicated to fine tuning their product to suit the Australian market, which has been a key to the success of the brand here.”

Recently launched, Sweet Caroline was named in honor of the owner’s partner. She made her debut at the 2023 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and is a fitting example of a perfectly curated yacht for a growing market.

Creativity ruled supreme during the five-day 2023 Horizon Power Catamaran Owners’ Rendezvous in The Bahamas.

Horizon Power Catamaran (HPC) owners clearly know how to enjoy themselves and this year’s owners’ rendezvous was yet another gathering of fun and imagination. Hosted in Shroud Cay, the annual event brought ten Horizon power catamarans—including the brand new PC68—and nearly 50 owners and guests for the five-day rendezvous from April 25 - 29, 2023. →

Day 1 // Rose Island

The idyllic setting of Rose Island provided the backdrop for the kickoff of the 2023 HPC Rendezvous. Accessible only by boat, Rose Island is an exotic, unspoiled hideaway with a stunning sea view—the perfect location to begin the Bahamian festivities! Upon arrival, attendees gathered ashore at the Footprints Beach Bar & Grill for the Welcome Dinner, for which Footprints’ owner Ronnie created a signature dish of Bahamian lobster soup and steamed fresh-caught fish. The staff entertained the crowd with karaoke tunes and everyone hit the sandy dance floor for a few songs before closing the place down for the night.

Day 2 // Shroud Cay

The first full day of the Rendezvous began with the main event: the annual raft up. With expert precision, the Horizon Powercat team maneuvered and guided ten Powercats into position for the “money shot” photo. With the power catamarans increasing in size year after year, this is no mean feat! Once the yachts were comfortably and securely tied up, it was time for the Captains’ Cocktail Competition. The judges immediately knew they were in for a treat as the participants raised the proverbial bar over other years with the level of creativity on display. The delicious and beautiful creations proved difficult to judge, but taste and presentation were commanded by the PC60 Indigo and the PC68, Omakase, with their “Purple Horizon” and “Utsukashii” craft cocktails, respectively. Presented to the Prince song, Purple Rain, Indigo’s refreshing Pomegranate Margarita with beet powder garnish was served alongside a beautiful array of indigo-inspired canapés for the perfect pairing.

The PC60 Ohana’s “Ohana-rita” was a delicious spicy margarita; the PC65 Cellfish presented a “Junkanoo Cocktail” that tasted exactly like a slice of keylime pie, and the PC60 Brokedown Palace paid homage to the Grateful Dead with a “Dancing Bear Jello Shot” that the judges really appreciated as fans of the rock band.

In fact, so much effort was put into every drink served this year that the judges had to implement—for the first time in HPC Rendezvous history—several Honorable Mentions.

A parade of tenders traveled through the Blue Lagoon to a gorgeous private beach for the annual beach party.

Day 3 // Blue Lagoon

By Day Three, the judges knew the competition was going to be fierce as the occupants of each powercat bustled about preparing their dinghies for this year’s Pimp My Dinghy contest. Once everyone was ready to go, a raucous parade of colorful tenders made its way through the exquisite Blue Lagoon to a gorgeous private beach for the dinghy presentation followed by a BBQ with the HPC signature South African sausage chased down with iced Taiwan beer.

The PC60 Oasis took home the prize for Funniest dinghy with their Godfather gangster theme, Brokedown Palace won the Unique category with a Game of Thrones theme, and the Most Creative award went to the PC60 Mangata, whose theme was inspired by the story of Norman’s Cay and famed drug lord Pablo Escobar.

After the dinghy presentations, everyone took to the water to cool off and play a little poker for charity. The stakes were high and the PC52 Sea Dreamz won the game that raised $7,000 for the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park.

Day 4 // Norman’s Cay

The fishing competition was off to an early start on Day Four as Oasis pulled away first thing in the morning, setting off a chain reaction among the competitors. Everyone met back at Norman’s Cay for a weigh-in that afternoon. Oasis and Indigo had a successful day with several mahi-mahi catches, but Mangata made a clean sweep on the trophies this year with their 20lb black grouper measuring a whopping 33 inches!

The annual stone crab dock party was the perfect end to an active day and everyone relaxed to reggae beats as the sun set.

Day 5 // Norman’s Cay

After a relaxing day, guests gathered at MacDuff’s for the Farewell Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Mangata received several trophies for their catches in the fishing competition and for the Most Creative dinghy. Oasis received the Funniest dinghy award and Brokedown Palace received the nod for Most Unique.

A bottle of Clase Azul Gold Tequila was awarded to Indigo for their cocktail presentation and Omakase received a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label for winning the Taste category of the Captains’ Cocktail Competition. The C’mon Man trophy went to Cellfish for their tardy arrival. The 2023 Rendezvous ended on the beach with music, laughter and conversation around a bonfire late into the evening.

It was a fabulous turnout for this year’s event, with plenty of dreams inspired for new power catamaran builds and cruising destinations. For information on next year’s event, please contact The Powercat Company at +1 (954) 803-8102 or email richard@powercatco.com.

2023 Palm Beach Int’l Boat Show

Living large at Palm Beach with Horizon’s FD and PC Series showcases

High volume and high style were on full display at the Horizon Yachts and Horizon Power Catamarans displays during the 2023 Palm Beach International Boat Show. Held March 23 - 26, the annual show drew over 55,000 visitors from around the world to the city of West Palm Beach, Florida, to check out the latest marine-related products, water toys and equipment accompanying the year’s best boats and yachts—from center consoles to superyachts.

Situated in its usual prominent position at the entrance of Ramp 2, Horizon Yachts displayed three new FD Series yachts:

a brand new FD80, a customized FD Skyline Issimo and the first FD110 Tri Deck, Freedom.

One of the FD Series’ most popular models, the Horizon FD80 won the hearts of visitors with its spacious high-volume design, four-stateroom layout, enclosed skylounge, generous beach club, crew quarters and plentiful deck areas and amenities. This is the first FD80 model in the U.S. to feature an open galley design, which further adds to the feeling of openness onboard. She is also the first FD80 to be fitted with Caterpillar 1,600hp engines and the Garmin Surround View six-camera “Birdseye” system.

62 horizon life VOLUME 61 // 2023

Three bespoke Horizon FD models showcased the company's commitment to build quality and flexibility.

Named Issimo, the FD Skyline on display commemorated her owners’ Italian heritage with an owner-specific design throughout that was very well received by all who stepped aboard. The owners selected a four-stateroom layout to allow for the signature on-deck master suite with three large VIP cabins as well as a spacious custom laundry and storage room on the lower deck. Additional modifications include the incorporation of a wet bar in lieu of the standard staircase on the starboard side of the aft deck as well as a full bar, L-shaped seating and dining and Jacuzzi tub on the boat deck aft of the enclosed skylounge.

Bookending the Horizon Yachts showcase was the first FD110 Tri Deck, Freedom. This voluminous build features five ensuite staterooms including an on-deck master suite, a spacious laundry room and crew quarters for six. An enclosed skylounge enhances the interior guest spaces while the exterior deck areas offer the space of a much larger build. From the aft deck dining area to the foredeck with its large Jacuzzi tub, to the sprawling boat deck and inviting tri-deck entertainment space, this FD110 is dedicated to enjoying life on the water. This particular yacht is, in fact, an extremely popular charter yacht through Horizon’s partner charter

program with Yacht Connexion.

During the annual Friday night cocktail party, Horizon clients old and new stopped by to say hello and tour the new yachts on display and chat about future design plans.

“The Palm Beach show brought a lot of attention to our three FD Series yachts on display while generating quite a bit of interest in our larger FD125 design,” says Horizon Yacht USA Director Roger Sowerbutts. “The tri-deck FD110 Freedom is quite successful in our partner charter program and as such drew a lot of inquiries as well.”

Horizon Power Catamarans included two PC60 models, but it was the world debuting PC68 that created overflowing shoe baskets and frazzled but happy staff.

Multiple new design features define the new PC68, which offers a four-stateroom layout with the option for an open-plan salon or an on-deck master stateroom forward. The debuting model featured an Open-Salon layout as well as the new model’s piece de resistance, which was the fabulously defined open flybridge with its large dayhead and centerline walkthrough to the unique Portuguese deck lounging and dining area forward. (Read the full feature on page 22.)

A media event kicked off a flurry of press activity on the PC68, which was officially christened Omakase in a private ceremony with her owners and friends and family after show hours.

“We knew our brand new PC68 model would turn heads, but we are in awe of the attention and praise she received from attendees, clients and the media alike during the show,” says The Powercat Company CEO Richard Ford. “She was even rated a Top 10 Yacht at the show by Robb Report as well as Motor Boat & Yachting magazines!”

2023 Auckland Boat Show A Debut Appearance in The City of Sails

The 2023 Auckland Boat Show was not only the largest show on record, it was also the first New Zealand-based show attended by Horizon Yachts. Situated in the new venue of the former America’s Cup team base, Jellicoe Harbour, Horizon showcased a brand new E75, Bellagio, which was custom built for a New Zealand-based owner.

Historically one of Horizon’s most popular models, the E75 marries a sleek exterior profile with a thoughtful layout and balanced deck spaces. The main salon features a spacious salon with a raised country kitchen area forward while an enclosed skylounge with an al fresco BBQ and entertainment area are found one deck above.

THIS PAGE A highly popular model, the E75 was the first Horizon yacht to display at the Auckland Boat Show.

The beach club is a unique feature of this customized E75, as it blends with the Hi/Lo swim platform to create an inviting exterior area at the water’s edge. This large space has been fitted with a galley, seating and dining area with a television and a dayhead to provide the owner and his guests every amenity desired during a day on the water.

Configured with a three-stateroom layout, the lower deck sees a full-beam master suite amidships and two large VIP staterooms with a shared ensuite. Fitted with built-in storage and hanging lockers, the master stateroom features an ensuite clad in Cambria Hawkesmoore quartz and marble stonework, offering a light and bright feel. As with every Horizon build, storage has been considered throughout Bellagio, with stowage options fitted into the freestanding as well as the built-in furniture.

The weather provided a spectacular atmosphere for the four-day show, which drew visitors from far and wide as well as numerous Horizon yachts and their owners from around the world. Many attendees also expressed interest in Horizon’s popular Fast Displacement (FD) Series of yachts, which sees models from 75 to 125 feet in length. As a result of the conversations had during the show, Horizon Yachts is now entering the design phase for a brand new FD80 with New Zealand clients as well as a custom E88 sports yacht for a five-time Horizon owner.

“We were very impressed with the attendance and caliber of clients at the Auckland Boat Show, as it inspired the design of a new FD Series and a new E Series build,” says Horizon Yacht Australia’s Director Mark Western. “This was our first Auckland show and we look forward to returning next year.”

2023 Sanctuary Cove Int’l Boat Show

Horizon's record showcase of 13 yachts converged with record show attendance

The 2023 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) marked the world’s largest boat show display of Horizon yachts, with 13 Horizon builds ranging from 73 to 125 feet comprising the Horizon Yachts’ showcase. Three sales were announced during the show, with a number of promising prospects coming as a result of the four-day event, held May 23 - 26, 2023.

Demonstrating record sales over the last two years, the Australian market has fully embraced the variety of Horizon yacht models targeted to the region’s diverse boating audience. Bookended by the debuting V74 motor yacht and RP125 superyacht, this year’s display featured 150 million dollars’ worth of yachts, with 13 Horizon builds including an RP100, two FD90s, two FD80s and an FD75 Skyline on location. Accompanied by Horizon Yachts’ CEO John Lu, members of Horizon’s headquarters joined the Horizon Yacht Australia (HYA) staff to meet with current and potential clients during the show.

68 horizon life VOLUME 61 // 2023
THIS PHOTO The world's largest showcase of Horizon Yachts comprised 13 builds ranging from 73 to 125 feet.

The flagship of this grand display was the new Horizon RP125, the largest Horizon yacht sold in Australia. Commissioned for a repeat owner, the RP125 is the largest of the J.C. Espinosa-designed Raised Pilothouse series of yachts. Uniquely, this build also features the High Performance Piercing Bow (HPPB) design found in the Fast Displacement (FD) Series of yachts and, despite its model moniker, has an enlarged salon and galley in lieu of a raised pilothouse.

Customized for the Australian market and conforming to AZ/NZS electric standards, the RP100 on display featured a spacious four-stateroom layout. The two FD90 models on display each boasted unique features that are indicators of Horizon’s willingness to engineer and customize to an owner’s specifications. The FD90 Hull 22 features an enclosed skylounge configuration and a fourstateroom layout, while the FD90 Hull 25 was constructed to meet the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s (AMSA) new

2C Survey requirements for commercially-operated vessels. Two FD80 models were also on display, the first of which—Hull 9—featured a split-use skylounge and a four-stateroom layout. Another show debut was the brand new FD80 Hull 10 (Read full feature on page 38.), which is the first FD80 model in Australia to feature a galley-aft layout. Numerous innovative features are found throughout this four-stateroom yacht, from its helipad to its large VIP with convertible beds, to its fully customized aft and boat decks fitted with convertible dining tables and BBQ grills. Attendees were able to experience the full scope of the FD Series with the FD75 Skyline on display, which was the first of the entry-level models to be delivered to Australia and the first enclosed skylounge configuration. This threestateroom yacht was built with serious owner involvement and showcases the scope of customization available to Horizon clients.

HYA reports three strong clients interested in this boat with a contract expected soon.

HYA also announced three sales during the show, including a charter-classed Horizon FD90, a custom E88 sport yacht to be designed by Cor D. Rover, and a custom FD80 fishing-focused yacht signed in conjunction with noted broker Don Senior.

“The response from our biggest-ever showcase has been phenomenal and the turnout of potential clients was the best we have seen in years,” says Horizon Yacht Australia Director Mark Western. “We had several meetings for new custom builds and believe these will turn into sales in the coming weeks. So far we have done about 40 million dollars in sales and hope to double this in the coming weeks.”
