There’s a stillness to Grand Lake in the fall. The air softens. Light lingers. The water reflects golden brushstrokes of trees not quite ready to let go. At Shangri-La, we lean into this rhythm. It’s a time to gather — not just around tables or fire pits — but around each other. A time when slowing down becomes its own kind of celebration.
Autumn here isn’t marked by calendar dates. It’s felt — in the crackle of a fire pit, the warmth of a wine glass held between friends, the quiet thrill of a well-played hole on a dew-covered fairway. We welcome you to take it all in. To return, or rediscover. And to find what fall can really feel like when you’re wrapped in comfort, surrounded by beauty, and invited to stay a little longer.
In my time here, I’ve watched the seasons change across Grand Lake more than once. Each one brings something special — but fall always feels a little more meaningful. Maybe it’s the way families return, year after year, to take in the colors and the calm. Maybe it’s the sense of ease that settles over the resort — like everything is exactly as it should be.
This past summer brought record celebrations and beautiful momentum. But as we enter this next season, I hope you’ll join us for something deeper: togetherness, tradition, and a renewed connection to place.
If you’re not yet part of the Shangri-La family, we’d love to welcome you. And to those who return each year — thank you. Your stories are woven into the fabric of this place.
Warmly,
Lance Funderburk
Fall doesn’t have to be about endings. At Shangri-La, we think of it as the beginning of something quieter, sweeter, and slower.
Saturday nights bring laughter and lights to The Anchor, as children run wild and parents steal a second glass of wine. Over in the kitchen, young bakers learn the feel of dough in their hands and the joy of eating something they made.
On the courts, pickleball becomes an all-ages showdown — not about who wins, but who gets the most laughs. In the spa, the smell of pumpkin and clove wafts through the air as guests find new ways to feel whole again. And as college football echoes from The Anchor, it becomes clear — we don’t chase fall here. We simply let it arrive. Learn more about the change of season here at ShangriLa at www.shangrilaok.com/fall.
END OF SEASON CELEBRATION, SEPT. 5–7
It’s not a goodbye. It’s a toast. To sunshine wellspent. To dockside dancing. To one last bite of buttery crab and one final clink of cocktail glasses under a sky that still feels like summer. Our season closer isn’t about closing — it’s about opening your heart to what’s next. From a low-country boil at Eddy’s to a pickleball tournament and plenty of family fun, join us as we bid farewell to summer and hello to fall. www.shangrilaok.com/endofseason
Here, Halloween isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a kid in a pirate hat clutching a caramel apple. A costume parade that meanders through laughter. It’s dry-ice margaritas on The Summit terrace and the kind of buffet that makes you forget you’re technically a grown-up. It’s spooky only in the most delightful of ways — and entirely ours. We have reimagined our Halloween experience differently this year with expanded offerings for all ages. Visit our website to learn more about the incredible lineup of events we have in store!

December arrives softly here. Boats glow quietly in the marina. Carols drift through the trees. Santa reads stories by the fire, while sleigh bells trace the shoreline. With every detail — from room surprises to spiked cocoa and family portraits at sunset — we make the holidays feel not bigger, but deeper. Simpler. More sacred. This year, spend the holidays with us and enjoy a robust calendar of merry activities. View the holiday planner at www.shangrilaok.com/holidays.
Some holidays feel like obligation. Not this one. Our weeklong celebration invites you to trade prep and pressure for casual brunches, lakeside movie nights, and the kind of gratitude you can actually feel. We won’t just cook the turkey — we’ll create the space for stories that last longer than leftovers. Learn more about our expanded week of fun at www.shangrilaok.com/thanksgiving.
Sequins or slippers. Black tie or barefoot. However you celebrate, New Year’s Eve at Shangri-La makes room for it all. Begin the night with a chef-curated four-course dinner, then dance beneath the heaters at Buffalo Bar with live music or sway to DJ beats on the North Patio. Little ones can join the fun too, with
their own sparkling countdown at The Anchor’s festive Kid’s Bash.
And when morning comes, ease into 2026 with brunch, Bloody Marys, and the comforting thought that the best is yet to come.

There’s something poetic about fall golf.
The way the ball carries differently in cool air. The sound of a well-hit shot echoing off a quiet course. This is when Shangri-La Golf Club shows its soul — not just its scorecard.
This year, we’ve made course improvements you’ll feel in every swing. And with new 2025–2026 rates designed for flexibility and value, we invite you to make the most of this season — and every season that follows.

EACH COURSE, A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEAUTY
There’s nothing quite like watching the first tee light up in golden hues as morning mist hovers just above the greens. Designed to challenge and inspire, our 27-hole Championship Course winds through trees now dressed in crimson and gold. With crisp air, quiet fairways, and panoramic lake views, this course in fall feels like a living painting — and you’re in the middle of it.
Don’t let the yardage fool you — The Battlefield is small but mighty. Set against 100 feet of elevation change and dramatic natural contours, this par-3 course becomes even more breathtaking as the foliage shifts. The view from every tee box is a reminder that golf can be as much about perspective as performance.
Fall leaf-peeping takes on a new meaning out here — best enjoyed club in hand.

COURAGE UNDER FIRE SCRAMBLE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 | 12:30 PM
A day of camaraderie and competition in support of the Monkey Island Fire Department.
To register, email brice.long@shangrilaok.com
Shangri-La’s third annual Courage Under Fire Classic tees off Sunday, October 5, with all proceeds supporting the Monkey Island Fire Department — one of the most vital and overextended emergency teams on Grand Lake.
In 2004, MIFD responded to just 55 calls. Last year? Over 1,000. And in 2025, that number is expected to top 1,400.
This four-person scramble, with a 12:30 PM shotgun start, raises critical funds for the department’s growing needs — from land and lake rescues to medical emergencies across the region.
ENTRY IS $1,000 PER TEAM, WITH SPONSORSHIPS STARTING AT JUST $100.
“This team does more than protect us — they show up, no matter what,” said Shangri-La GM Lance Funderburk. “We’re proud to stand behind them.”

BY JOHN HAVENS II, DIRECTOR OF CULINARY AND BEVERAGE EXPERIENCE
If fall had a flavor, we think it would be a little smoky, a little sweet — with just enough warmth to linger. That’s the spirit that guides us in the kitchen this season.
At Shangri-La, our culinary philosophy is rooted in experience. Not just what’s on the plate, but how it makes you feel. Whether it’s a slow-simmered risotto at The Summit, wings and whiskey at Doc’s during a big game, or a pizza fresh from the oven at The Anchor, our menus are crafted to honor the moment.
This fall, we invite you to explore our new seasonal offerings — bold, comforting, and inspired by the land (and lake) we call home. From harvest cocktails to holiday buffets, everything we prepare is meant to be savored — and shared.
See what’s cooking at shangrilaok.com/dine-drink
Candlelit dinners, slow braises, and wines that tell a story — The Summit remains our most elevated expression of the season. Expect menus rooted in fall and plated with care.
Courtside bites, arcade snacks, and lakeside fun with a view. It’s relaxed, it’s reliable, and it’s where you’ll probably end up.

This fall, Saturdays hit different. So do Sundays. And even Thursday and Monday nights. Because at The Anchor, football season isn’t just on the screen— it’s an experience.
We’ve transformed our lakeside playground into Grand Lake’s go-to gameday destination Catch every big matchup — from Saturday college rivalries to NFL prime time — on massive screens, with surround sound, cold beer, and enough lawn games to keep your crew entertained between quarters.
Grab a pizza, settle into a lounge chair with a seasonal cocktail, and watch the game unfold while lake breezes roll in. Add in specialty menus, halftime contests, and plenty of tailgate-inspired extras, and you’ve got a weekend tradition worth celebrating.
Watching in-room or at-home? Order two pizzas and get free wings — because football feeds the soul (and the stomach).
THIS IS FOOTBALL, THE SHANGRI-LA WAY.
Tucked inside The Anchor — where the energy of the courts meets the spirit of a Saturday night — there’s a new way to feed your cravings. Introducing ShangriLa’s brand-new, Italian-inspired pizza kitchen.
Here, hand-tossed crust meets slowsimmered sauce, bubbling mozzarella, and just the right touch of playful irreverence. Think classics like Margherita and Pepperoni, alongside house specials inspired by game-day traditions and local flavors. It’s bold. It’s
casual. It’s meant to be grabbed in your court shoes or eaten post-pickleball while watching the sunset roll in over Grand Lake. Available to-go 7 days a week.
And don’t worry — the rest of your Anchor favorites are still here. Ice-cold brews, a full bar, and elevated comfort food are available. Whether you’re here to play, spectate, or just savor, The Anchor is your fall flavor headquarters.

Dear Members,
We’re excited to introduce a new technology launching in the second half of 2025 to ensure accurate billing and secure member identification. This smartphone-based system displays your member credentials with a single tap—giving Shangri-La team members everything needed to apply discounts, grant access, and ensure only authorized charges are made to your account. It also lets you assign club privileges to eligible family members, with or without charging capabilities.
In the coming weeks, you’ll receive a request to update your membership details, including information for eligible household members (primary, spouse or significant other, and children under 26 living at home). This system will only be successful with full member participation—so timely responses will be essential.
Once everyone’s information is submitted, setting up the app takes just three minutes. We’ll provide clear setup instructions and offer phone and in-person support to make the process seamless.
We believe this system will solve many long-standing concerns and enhance the overall membership experience. More details are on the way—and I look forward to sharing more at the Membership Appreciation Party on October 4.
Respectfully,
Barry Willingham President / CEO – Shangri-La Resort
Shangri-La owner Eddy Gibbs will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame on November 13 — the state’s highest honor.
A Checotah native and founder of Ameristar, the world’s largest ornamental fence manufacturer, Eddy built his legacy on hard work, generosity, and a deep love for Oklahoma. Since purchasing ShangriLa in 2010, he’s transformed the resort into a nationally recognized destination and a cornerstone of economic growth in the region.
His impact extends beyond hospitality. From creating the Legacy of Liberty Memorial Park to supporting education and honoring veterans, Eddy’s contributions continue to shape the future of the state.
WE’RE HONORED TO CELEBRATE THIS MILESTONE WITH HIM.
Congratulations to Ann (Pitts) Turner, Shangri-La’s multi-time Women’s Club Champion, who was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame on August 4
Ann spent 24 years as the founding head coach of OSU’s Cowgirl Golf team, leading them to 15 conference titles and 21 national tournament appearances. A trailblazer in women’s collegiate golf, she coached 19 All-Americans and earned honors from the Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame, OSU Athletics, and the National Golf Coaches Association.
She remains a proud, active member of the SLWGA — and a continued inspiration to us all.
Congratulations to John Hess, winner of the 2025 Shangri-La Club Championship, edging out Bryce Dunlap in a playoff. Clayton Shumaker placed third.
In Net Stroke Play, Bryan Waldenville claimed the Open Division title in a tiebreaker.
Mike McCurdy led the Senior Division, with Lance Ledbetter and Ryburn McCullough close behind.
Geral Stelting earned Senior Net Champion honors.
Junior titles went to Harry Campbell and Sam Heher (Boys), and Mia Miller and Harper Fraser (Girls).
Thanks to all who competed and supported this outstanding week of golf!
