CONNECTIONS CAFÉ

The Arts Café has had a busy and exciting programme with lots of workshops, events and exhibitions. ‘Recipes for Change’ was a huge success with a range of activities such as printing, sculpting and origami lunch boxes. Residents worked with artist Lady Kitt to produce a ‘larder’ full of recipes for change for Peterlee. The project will be touring the county and will appear as part of this year’s Durham Miners Gala.

Most recently the Arts Café hosted the ‘DIY Cabaret’ night. This was an inclusive evening of cabaret performances, including comedy, music, spoken word and open mic. The evening even included a poem created on the spot using an edition of Peterlee Magazine. The cabaret marked the opening of local artist, Mack Sproates, new “Zineexhibition” on display during June. For those that may not know a ‘zine’ is a DIY handmade, or selfpublished, booklet or magazine. Anyone can make a zine about anything. They are often a way of helping marginalised voices be heard.

The exhibition includes opportunities to make a Zine so why not pop by and have a go at making your own? The Arts Café have zine kits for people to use and these can be found at the Arts Café.
