Farocki is an unattainable ideal for me. That’s what video taught me. Basically, cinema is my language. I do everything through the lens of cinema, even when I am working through the medium of photography. It is impossible for me to present only one image. Presenting one image is photography. I would prefer to take one image and add another one alongside it and still more underneath or above in order to form an atlas. What I am interested in is the relationship and the meaning between the images. That’s cinema, regardless of whether the images are still or in motion. My connection to reality makes me inclined to the cinema. Cinema is my way of approaching reality. As the works already exist in reality, the work of the artist is merely to find them and to present them honestly, like Marcel Duchamp picking the ready-mades.

40 디후 디 후는 1982년 중국 저장성에서 태어났으며 저장성 대학에서 중국 문학을 공부했다. 이후 프랑스에서 영화를 공부했다. 중국으로 돌아온 이후 프리랜서 영화평론가이자 영화연구자가 되었다. 그는 안체 에만과 하룬 파로키가 기획한 워크숍에 참가한 이후 2014년 부터 단편 영화를 만들기 시작했다. 이후 그가 만든 작품은 유럽을 중심으로 여러 페스티벌에 소개되었다

Di Hu Born in 1982, in Zhejiang, China. He studied Chinese Literature at Zhejiang University before going on to study cinema at several universities in Paris, France. Upon returning to China, he became a freelance film critic and a film scholar. He started making short films in 2014 after attending the Workshop ‘Labour In A Single Shot’ curated by Antje Ehmann and Harun Farocki. Since then, his works have been screened and exhibited in major international art events such as Stuttgarter Filmwinter, 8th Cairo Video Festival, Dallas Medianale, Filmideo 2017 in Index Art Center, Newark, 13th Athens Digital Arts Festival and Images Contre Nature - Festival International de Vidéo Expérimentale, etc.
