Appreciation and Encouragement! by Vic Daniel, Ontario, Canada
It is with great pleasure I share this celebratory story about the recent 2014 Hoof Health Conference. First, we celebrate the fact that it was our best conference ever. Why was it our best? Was it the largest attendance with over 300 people attending? Was it the fact we had over 32 companies at our trade show? Was it the program, speakers, or farm day? Was it our volunteers and committees who gave time and terrific effort to make it the success it was? Well, it was all of the above, but most important, in my view and many others, it was the attendees and the tone of the conference. The trimmers were relaxed and supportive of each other, reaching out to improve their knowledge and share their desire to excel. This tone reflected open minds to improve not only their business but to recognize that they want to support an education platform. I was pleased to see the draft proposal of the education platform well received by the members at the membership business meeting during the conference. One designed for hoof trimmers by hoof trimmers (and supporting experts). We also had many new members and younger trimmers attend which was encouraging. I was glad to see so many others welcome them. I had a chance to talk with some and learned they were impressed with the caliber of program as well as the hospitality of many members, apparently, some with tailgate events I missed. As the new President, I wish to convey my appreciation to my predecessor, Allan Schlabach, from Ohio. Allan did a great job during his term examining many pertinent, forward thinking considerations and kept a very strong emphasis on celebrating what any single person or group had achieved. A big thank you, Allan, for your commitment to our association. Encouragement is going to be the tone of my term as President. Therefore, I encourage you to reach out and talk to your regional representatives, listed on the back page of this newsletter. The HTA has three new representatives continued on page 3
