THANK YOU
Happy Friday everyone and welcome back to the second half of the term. This week I would like to dedicate our headlines as a thank you to all our servicemen and women, both past and present, who have helped to shape and preserve the freedoms we too often take for granted. Few things have altered the course of history and shaped the modern world as much as the first World War. Armistice Day is a day that marks a significant part of our history and the progress we have made as the human race.
I hope that you have been following our activities this week in the run up to Armistice Day and Sunday’s remembrance. The display at the front of the school is looking great.
Today we held our fifth annual Teachers vs C11 Learners Football match. The match is more than just an opportunity to provide a bit of C11 and teacher rivalry, it is an opportunity to galvanise our community as we reflect on the freedoms we are all afforded. As the opposing teams gather in the centre circle for the 2-minute silence, the rest of the school join in around the edge of the pitch. As always it makes for an intense and competitive game. As I write this we have not kicked off, however I am confident that the game will not be without its drama and, dare I say, some controversy - there is usually a questionable penalty or two given.
A special thanks must go to:

Our C9 parents evening will be taking place next week on Thursday 13th November. Learners should already have their booking sheets and may well have already booked in with a few teachers. Please let your child know when you will be available for appointments so that they may book you in with their teachers. Parents evening is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and find out about the progress learners are making. For C9 learners it is an important time to find out how they are settling into their GCSE classes. C9 is certainly one of my favourite year groups to teach and I am looking forward to an opportunity to engage with families and celebrate the learning of my class.
However, as always families are welcome to contact their class teacher any time if they have questions or concerns with their child’s learning. We look forward to welcoming you into school on Thursday.

Congratulations to Will Cook Gorton who found out this week that he has been selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2027.
He has been in Scouting since he was 6 years old and has recently become a Young Leader, helping out with both Squirrels and Scouts at 2 different groups. It is a testament to all his hard work and dedication that he has been chosen to attend this event that will give him the opportunity to mix with young people from all over the world. Well done Will!

Remembrance Sunday always falls on the second Sunday of November
The first Sunday closest to the 11th of November is chosen every year as the day to remember the fallen and injured. As Sunday is often a day of rest, many British nationals and residents of the Commonwealth will use the day to attend a local remembrance parade, honour a two-minute silence at 11am or watch the London parade on TV.
11th November symbolises The Armistice
The Armistice was an agreement between The Allies and Germany to end the fighting of WW1. As a result, soldiers stopped fighting at 11am on 11th November in 1918, starting the end of the four year-long war.
Poppies are associated with Remembrance Day
As a result of fierce fighting and bombing during WW1, landscapes were turned to ruin. However, resilient poppy flowers flourished – creating bright red fields, which many symbolise as a remembrance of the blood spilled on the battlefields.
Remembrance Day isn’t just to remember the fallen of WW1
Remembrance Day is now also a time to remember all of the servicemen and women who have lost their lives as a result of war, been severely injured – resulting in life-changing injuries and commemorating those who have served for our country. Remembrance Day also has a personal meaning to all veterans and military personnel currently serving.

Lunchtime clubs are running! The clubs running are shown opposite - some of these are already full due to interest shown when you were all given the opportunity to complete the sign up form before half term, however if you didn't complete the form and are now interested, go the room/club on the day it is running to speak with the teachers running it so see if there is space or if you can be added to the waiting list for a space to become available.
