Happy Friday everyone and welcome back to the second half of the term. This week I would like to dedicate our headlines as a thank you to all our servicemen and women, both past and present, who have helped to shape and preserve the freedoms we too often take for granted. Few things have altered the course of history and shaped the modern world as much as the first World War. Armistice Day is a day that marks a significant part of our history and the progress we have made as the human race.
I hope that you have been following our activities this week in the run up to Armistice Day and Sunday’s remembrance.
Today we held our fourth annual Teachers vs C11 Learners Football match. The match is more than just an opportunity to provide a bit of C11 and teacher rivalry, it is an opportunity to galvanise our community as we reflect on the freedoms we are all afforded. As the opposing teams gather in the centre circle for the 2-minute silence, the rest of the school join in around the edge of the pitch. As always it makes for an intense and competitive game. As I write this we have not kicked off, however I am confident that the game will not be without its drama and, dare I say, some controversy - there is usually a penalty given that is questionable.
A special thanks must go to:

This time last year we launched our Mental Health Champions project with 16 C7 learners - 2 representatives from each learning group. These learners had put themselves forward to become mental health champions for the school. Mrs Buckley still has the clam jar on her desk that they made for her last Christmas.
Becoming a mental health champion is the first opportunity C7s have to embrace the Honywood Leadership pathway which culminates in becoming a lead learner in C11.
We are now looking for the next wave of recruits from our current C7 - learning groups will be asked to put forward two learners each who will be trained up by our current C8s. Our learners engage brilliantly in discussions about what mental health is and why it is important that we actively take measures to support our mental health in the same way we do for our physical health. As a mental Health Champion learners will develop these skills further. They will learn about:
• How we feel within ourselves
• How we act and think
• How we deal with problems
The programme will involve evaluating themselves and their own mental health. The learners then spend time learning about how to care for our mental health:
• Exercise and be physically active everyday
• Get plenty of sleep each day
• Speak to a trusted adult or friend if you have worries that are troubling you
• Enjoy your hobbies and interests with other people
• Challenge your brain to grow by learning new knowledge and skills
• Make time for things that help you relax
Our Mental Health Champions will work closely with Mrs Nichols and Mr Smith and will be able to lead on projects that respond to the needs of our learners as identified through the YouHQ app that we use to support wellbeing.
Our current school mental health champions in C8 are:
Josh Milliken, Poppy Fairhall, Mattie Bolton, Tyler Simmons, Harry Cousins, Eadie Grounds, Liam Haylock, Charlotte Brown, Freya Horvath, Amelia Marshall, Hermione O’Neill, Afiyah Malik, Micah Melvin, Lexi Jones, Maggie Alexander, Phoebe Fairbairn.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Archaeologists found the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, or King Tut, in Egypt on 26 November 1922. It had been undisturbed for over 3,000 years. Many experts consider their discovery the most important Ancient Egyptian discovery ever.
The fall of the Berlin Wall was the first step towards German reunification. In 1989, political changes in Eastern Europe and civil unrest in Germany put pressure on the East German government to loosen some of its regulations on travel to West Germany.
