National Poetry Day
It was National Poetry Day this week and there have been a whole host of activities happening across the school. I would like to share with you one of the outcomes - a poem by Matthew Collier (8JLA). Change Change can be seen on the leaves on the trees Cycling through its stages, From green to brown to on the ground Change will always happen. Change can be seen in family life The perpetual pattern of age, Infant to adult to old pensioners Change will always happen. Change can be seen in the earth Scars from wars long forgotten, Hopefully we have made peace but Change will always happen. Change can be seen in the air all around us Pollution from selfish factories Before we came round the air was pure, but Change will always happen. Change can be seen in fossils and bones Undisturbed for eons The world was a very different place but Change will always happen
Change will always happen, We cannot change our past But we can mold our future. So what will our future look like? It has also been a week of leadership for our learners. On Tuesday the Lead Learners presented to the leadership team to update them on the initiatives they are working on. The Peer Mentor programme that they have designed is providing an excellent level of support for some of our younger learners and is the result of the strong leadership skills of this group. I was so impressed by the way they conducted the meeting. Here is an update on their progress:
Maryann Cooke has been leading the coordination of this years launch of the Creative Team, and Learner Leadership team. Emmanuel Kemball and Jorja Scales have made significant progress in enhancing our catering offer. Connie Sarti and Lizzie Grinter have been looking further into the future and are considering how to create the most exciting environment for C11 leavers at their prom. Rhiannon Ellis and Shannon Grealis have been collaborating with all C11 Ambassador with a view of utilising their support in a wide MLC offer for our younger learners to benefit from. Georgia MeyerHek and Lily Vickers have been exploring various online learning technology to help enhance the growth and development of all learners academically but also to help utilise and grow their learning attributes. We also had our Open Evening this week and I commented to the families that, according to BBC advice on how to approach an Open Day, the learners would all be hand picked! I am so pleased that this was not the case at Honywood. We asked for volunteers for the night and over 50% of the school put their name forward; well over 400 learners. I would like to thank all the learners who made the night a success. It has been a joy to read the positive comments from families about the individual learners that guided them around and spoke with them. I have already received quite a few emails from families to thank the learners. Teaching awards link I would like to draw your attention to the Essex Teaching Awards - https://www.essex.gov.uk/BusinessPartners/Partners/Schools/Pages/Essex-TeachingAwards.aspx There are so many great teachers in Honywood that would be worthy of such recognition. If you would like to nominate a teacher please use the following link: https://surveys.essexinsight.org.uk/TakeSurvey.aspx? PageNumber=1&SurveyID=n2M0lo9K&Preview=true#
