REMEMBRANCE This week I would like to dedicate our headlines to all our servicemen and women, both past and present, who have helped to shape and preserve the freedoms we too often take for granted. Few things have altered the course of history and shaped the modern world as much as the first World War. Armistice Day is a day that marks a significant part of our history and the progress we have made as the human race.
I hope that you have been following our activities this week in the run up to yesterday’s Armistice Day and Sunday’s remembrance. Learners have all been busy in their learning groups contributing to our display at the front of school. If you have not yet seen this display I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It is touching to see how many children have taken the opportunity to pay tribute to members of their own families by placing photos of them on the crosses - many grandparents and great grandparents have been recognised in the display. It has even inspired many learners to look deeper into their own family history.
It was lovely to see the coverage of the event from ITV, who stayed to film the whole game and interview staff and learners at the end. They followed this up yesterday by accompanying Mr Williams and a group of learners from all cohorts to the Coggeshall War Memorial where Aidan Young and Poppy Webster laid a wreath on behalf of the school. As we enter the weekend I would like to leave you with the words of thanks from Mr Williams. Thank you to all that have taken part in and supported the remembrance events at school this week. The level of engagement and respect has been nothing short of exceptional and it once again reminds me of how lucky I am to work with and be a part of the Honywood School community. A special thanks must go to:
