Following the excitement of ITV covering our Remembrance week activities last year, there has been a noticeable buzz around the school in the build up to this year’s Remembrance Day. Poppies have been on sale across the last two weeks in the build up to today, in order to raise awareness of those that made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the freedom that we enjoy today, as well as to raise money for the Royal British Legion as they continue to provide the much needed support to ex-service personnel and their families. Mr Tolhurst delivered a fantastic assembly to each Cohort throughout the week, in which he discussed what remembrance was to him, and in doing so, shared his journey on finding his great grandfather’s grave in a war cemetery in France, having been killed during WW1. The footage that Mr Tolhurst was able to share of the vast war cemeteries and memorials in this part of the world was a stark reminder to all of how lucky we are to be experiencing such a prolonged period of peace in our country today. Learners have worked with their Learning Group Leaders during LS5 to create a collective, but personalised symbol of remembrance, which have been placed out at the front of school this week, and have been yet another example of how we at Honywood promote individual expression through shared ethos and core values. The spectacle came together brilliantly - well done to all. Learners from each cohort were also nominated to go to lay a remembrance wreath on behalf of the school and to share in the 2 minutes silence at the Coggeshall War Memorial with the rest of the local community at 11 o’clock today. All involved were exemplary in their behaviour, conduct and respect, and were a genuine credit to not only themselves, but also to their families, their school and the fallen soldiers that they were there to commemorate. Those individuals were: Finley Petts, Honey Gott, Maisie Petts, Connor Pritchard, Reece Williams, Harri Wilson, Kaylee Tredgett, Luwei

Wood, Freddie Estall, Tilly Moxham, Belle Turner, Lydia Greensides, George Corbet, Kieran Tredgett and Charlie Engelbrecht The school then came together around the football pitch during the final portion of the school day today, to share in 2 minutes silence together ahead of the much anticipated c11 v Staff Football Match. The minute’s silence was impeccable from the entire learner body, and it was great to see that many parents/carers and governors were there to take part in the collective moment of remembrance. Well done to all the learners involved in the football match. It was great to see that the game was played in the competitive but respectful manner that was required of the day. Those learners were: Alfie Grigg, Archie Nicholson, Carter Edwards, Eddie Lockwood, Ethan Holt, Finlay Newton, Finley Petts, Henry Stephens, Jack Swinhoe, Jasper Bradford, Jay Walford, Jayden Bishop, Lealand Adamson, Leon Sigournay, Logan Pitt, Luca McCracken, Maxzwell Bennett, Peter Janes, Sid Critch and William Yeo. Please continue to wear your poppies with pride and good luck to those of you involved in Remembrance parades this Sunday. Mr J Williams
