WELCOME BACK Welcome back to the final part of the summer term. In six weeks we will have completed what we hope will be our last year of pandemic disruption. We have made many changes and developed many aspects of the school over the last year and I thank you for your continuing support as we strive to achieve great things at Honywood. Our C11’s have officially left us now and are well into their exams. I wish them the very best as they navigate through this final part of their Honywood journey. This leaves us with C10 taking the spot as the role models of the school. LEAD LEARNERS AND SENIOR PREFECTS Speaking of role models, I had the pleasure of meeting with our new lead learners and senior prefects today as they experienced their first learner leadership day. This impressive team of learners went through a gruelling interview process that would rival most teacher interviews. They all rose to the challenge and did an exceptional job. It was impressive to hear how their ideas are starting to take shape; they spoke with clarity, confidence and conviction - a real credit. I am looking forward to seeing how our school will benefit from their work over the following year. JUBILEE CELEBRATION I hope that you all enjoyed the extended Jubilee weekend celebrations. As these celebrations fell during half term we made the decision to mark the occasion in school this week. On Wednesday we held a non uniform day with a red, white and blue theme. Yesterday our learners and staff entered a jubilee bake off and then sold off their creations to the school over lunch. The quality of the cakes was exceptional and they were very tasty indeed. A big thank you to the following learners for baking the cakes: Sumeyye Almas, Megan Andrews, Rose Collier, Eloise Court, Isabelle Cridland, Caleb Greenwood, Jonathan Hardington, Erin Smith, Juliette Swain, Jessica Wheeler, Reece Williams and Harri Wilson.
Today we continued our baking theme. A group of our GCSE food learners spent the morning preparing afternoon tea boxes for delivery out in the community. Before half term we had put out a request for people to nominate friends and neighbours. We were overwhelmed with the response and ended up making over 90 afternoon tea boxes. I have spent a wonderful afternoon driving our learners around our community to deliver their afternoon tea parcels to people that had been nominated by friends and neighbours. As well as delivering our boxes to individuals we also dropped in to three local care homes to drop off further treats. The learners were exemplary and demonstrated kindness and caring with everyone they met today. Thank you to Mrs Downes for organising this event and to the following learners who have supported today: Sam Agombar, Jack Alderton, Laila Arkell, Shiloh Benson, Ruby Burks, Keris Farrugia, Caleb Greenwood, Troy Hughes, Melanie James, William Maddox, Damini Manku, Emily Spencer, Rosa Swain, Harry Taylor, Jake Whitelock, Jake Whitelock, Harri Wilson, Primrose Worboys and Callum Young. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
