Another enriching week Another week down and another Danbury trip. This one was for C8s. These guys were hit hard in their first year of secondary school as we were completely restricted in the activities we could do beyond Honywood. Now that things have opened up it was great to provide them with that opportunity that they missed out on this time last year. Whilst the weather was not quite as perfect as last Friday, spirits were not dampened. On Wednesday the C11s were focusing on their next steps post-Honywood. The learners approached this event with real considered maturity as they spoke to the providers about career opportunities. I would like to thank Mr Ramsay for his efforts in supporting our learners to plan for their future. I remember when I used to attend such events I would often find learners from some schools to be very quiet and not as proactive as they could be at being forthcoming when approaching stands. That was not the case this week; our learners were confident, articulate and mature. The providers and staff at the venue were highly complimentary about the conduct and maturity they displayed as well as the level and depth of their questioning. I hope that it has given learners a great insight into their next steps postHonywood. Open Evening A reminder that it is our Open Evening next Thursday. We have already had much interest from families of current year 6 children in attending the evening. I am sure you can appreciate that in the current climate, making decisions around welcoming groups into school is a tricky balancing act. We have not wanted to cancel the event and
have been monitoring the situation carefully and families have appreciated the steps we have taken to enable them to visit for our daytime tours to get an authentic look at the school. Our Open Evening is also still going ahead, however, we feel we need to add some additional measures. As well as additional safety precautions on the night the key change is that we are now asking for families to pre-book a timed slot via our Eventbrite booking system. You can link to this here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/honywood-school -open-evening-2021-for-admission-sep-2022timed -entry-tickets-181257133967 This will help us control numbers across the site. We are looking forward to welcoming our prospective new learners. As always we are here for personalised tours should families want to gain an authentic look at the school in action. I can honestly say it has been an absolute pleasure to take families around this week. I have been very proud to show off our school community; it is so great to talk about what we stand for and then see our staff and learners demonstrating our values themselves. I am looking forward to meeting more families next week. Half Day and non learner day Don’t forget that on Thursday it is our Open Evening. We will be finishing at 1:00pm to prepare the site for the evening. Buses will be picking up earlier. A quick reminder that Friday 8th October is a nonlearner day. We will look forward to seeing all learners back in school on Monday 11th October.
