like back then. What I do know is that we have been here before. I remember how happy I was back in September to be working with children in the building once more and to be back in some kind of routine.
"Words can be like x-rays if you use them properly they'll go through anything." - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World I may have mentioned before that Mr Tolhurst has been sharing a “thought of the day”. This week his daily inspiration has come from books. Every day has been the literary edition of thought of the day. I have chosen the words of Aldous Huxley as it is one of my favourite books and one that had a profound impact on how I see society. The aim of the day is raise the profile of books and reading. The evidence is quite clear on this - regular reading makes a difference to academic performance. Normally we would have a host of activities in school to mark the importance of reading on this day. Under lockdown it has been trickier but I am pleased that the English team rose to the challenge. Here they are online with their literary themed tops and books:
Welcome back We have reached the next checkpoint. The next milestone. The next leg of our journey through the pandemic. And it is a positive one for us as we welcome back the heart and soul of the community - our learners. If you found this last lockdown the hardest you are not alone. We have been doing this for a year now and I for one have forgotten what coming to school was
The things we have experienced over the last year will stay with us forever and have shaped us as all. The pandemic is not over, there are still challenges ahead but with learners back in the building our purpose is once again so much clearer. I can’t wait to see our learners back in school from next week. We will all be feeling the strain of the last few months but I implore everyone to be kind to each other and offer each other unconditional support. We have all, again, been on our own journey over this lockdown and it will have affected us in different ways. We will invariably bring this experience back with us. The following sentiments are well worth remembering.
You never know what’s going on in the background but being kind will always help. In the meantime, switch off, relax and do whatever you do to keep yourself happy and sane. Have a great weekend. James Saunders Headteacher
