Long-term U.S. government bonds are looking more attractive than they have in nearly a year.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury note climbed to 4.19% last week the highest since November.
The yield has remained above 4% so far this month.
A year ago, it was at 2 80%.
Higher yields mean bonds are paying more in interest.
They’ve been ticking higher since mid-July, as the economy has remained remarkably resilient despite much higher interest rates meant to drive down inflation After a tough 2022, when rock-bottom long-term
Savers rejoice: Surging yields make for most attractive return on 10-year US Treasury bonds in nearly a year great news for savers and fixed-income retirees
yields offered meager returns, the recent surge in yields is an opportunity for fixed-income investors to lock in healthier interest rates, says Scott Wren, senior global market strategist at the Wells Fargo Investment Institute But how long will bond yields keep climbing? Wren says they will “probably” drift higher from here, but he expects the Fed’s rate hikes will slow the economy and bring inflation down enough by 2024. “When that happens, that’s kind of going to put a lid on yields,” he said.

Wright Memorial Hospital has recently received multiple designations relating to the high level of care provided for strokes and heart attacks.
Wright Memorial earned The Joint Commission’s Acute Heart Attack Ready Certification and The Joint Commission’s Acute Stroke Ready Certification.
Wright Memorial underwent a rigorous, onsite review to earn these certifications. During the visit, reviewers from The Joint Commission evaluated compliance with related certification standards. The Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
Additionally, for efforts to optimize stroke care and eliminate rural health care outcome disparities, Wright Memorial Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Rural Recognition Bronze award.
The award recognizes hospitals for their efforts
toward acute stroke care excellence demonstrated by composite score compliance to guideline-directed care for intravenous thrombolytic therapy, timely hospital inter-facility transfer, dysphagia screening, symptom timeline and deficit assessment documentation, emergency medical services communication, brain imaging, and stroke expert consultation.
Also, with the recent certifications from The Joint Commission, Wright Memorial was designated by the State of Missouri as a Level III Stroke Center and a Level III STEMI Center.
The Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) system, which implements the stroke and STEMI levels of hospital designation across the state, was created in 2013 through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. It’s a statewide emergency medical care response system aimed at providing faster response and quality care when a time-critical emergency happens. The goal is to create consistent, statewide rules and regulations to help emergency and hos-
pital personnel ensure patients are transported and treated by the most appropriate facility for their conditions.
“We are incredibly honored to receive these stroke and STEMI designations,” said Steve Schieber, CEO of Wright Memorial Hospital. “But even more so, I’m incredibly proud of the hard work our staff has put in providing excellent care and ensuring that our standard of care is exceeding certain benchmarks put in place by The Joint Commission, the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association, and the State of Missouri’s Health and Senior Services department. These designations validate our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional emergency care to our community.”

During the North Central Missouri Fair, there was a lot of fun and family events going on. (top) The Fair had a carnival consisting of a few rides, like the twisting hammer shown, and carnival games.
The Fairgrounds cook shack served some great food, such as pork burgers and pie.
One night the Fair hosted Bingo in the Courtyard (middle photo) which still had many participants even after the rain delay.
One night featured local band “Flash Flood” in the Courtyard. Another thing going on in the Courtyard included local Vendors (bottom photo) selling hand made things, seasonal things, and everyday use items.

RIBBON WINNERS
On Monday 7/31, during the NCM Fair, 4-H members exhibited projects and participated in conference judging at the Rock Barn for 4-H Achievement Day. It is an event where 4-H youth can bring pieces or projects they have been working on throughout the year and discuss with judges the lessons learned through “doing”. County 4-H achievement day offers 4-H and Clover Kid members opportunities to showcase what they learned in their 4-H projects.
4-H entries are awarded ribbons using the Danish placing system: Blue, Red, White. Blue ribbon entries are eligible for selection for the Missouri State Fair. Clover Kid entries are awarded Clover Kid participation ribbons.
Achievement day includes project exhibits and conference judging and is open to all 4-H youth members and “Clover Kid” participants aged 5-18 years old.
For Grundy County Achievement Day, there were 17 4-H members who submitted projects for judging and exhibiting. Those exhibitors brought a total of 62 projects to share and display throughout the week with the NCM fair-goers. Of those displays 42 were awarded blue, 17 red and 3 Clover kid participation ribbons. Eight “Best of Show” awards were also granted to exceptional exhibits. Of the projects displayed, 27 qualified to be submitted into the Missouri State Fair, although only 2 may be entered per member. After some difficult decisions, 18 were sent to the State Fair and will be on display from
August 10-20 in the 4-H Building at Sedalia, MO.
The judges consisted of several amazing area community members who volunteered to help at the event: Betty Moore, Morgan Duff, Denise Hamilton, Sarah Allen, Latorrie Johnson and Babe Roy. Fair board members and 4-H families also helped to plan and prep to make sure the area was set up and ready to “rock” as well as supervise the Rock Barn and displays during the fair with special mentions to Carol Ausberger, Andy Burress, the Dixons, Bowes, Lowreys, Williams, Bethards, Maloneys, Mary Johnson and many others. Several employees of MU Extension attended to also assist the 4-H personnel with the event: Stacey Steffens, Chelsea Corkins, Micah Potgieter and Scott Finley. We are so thankful for all the 4-H families, youth, judges, MU Extension professionals, and the fair board members for helping to make this event be successful and continue the traditions of 4-H in the area, and helping Grundy County continue to embody the fair theme of “Our Roots Run Deep”.
