SELF-CARE FOR MIND, BODY AND ENJOYMENT by Urma Redmond Let’s be clear: we believe that you should be intentionally giving yourself self-care everyday. However, there’s some days when you need to lay the TLC on a little thicker. These days are especially a nice treat to give yourself...and it’s essential that those days come by often. Self-care is essential for self-love. For Black women especially, the world has a way of de-plenishing our energy and leaving us feeling empty and hopeless. Self-care steps in as a way to nourish ourselves; it steps in as a way to rejuvenate our heart, body, and soul; and it steps in as a way to remind ourselves that we’re worthy of being treated like a treasure. If you’ve been feeling weary from the ways of the world...it’s time to plan a luxurious self-care day for you and your soul Take what you need, sis. Here are a few gems on how to plan an ultimate self-care day:

PASSION

Often, we’re too busy focusing on various responsibilities: our career, our family, our relationships...all important factors. However, they may not always align with our passion. Truth is, we don’t always have enough time to include passion in our daily to-do’s. For your self-care day, spend as much time as you desire on whatever it is that brings you the most joy. Whether it’s singing, binge-watching your favorite shows, or working on a huge creative project, move that to the front and center of your life. For this day, your passion deserves your undivided attention. The more you practice integrating self-care into your daily livelihood, the more you’ll be able to incorporate those meaningful and intentional habits into your daily routine! Take some time and dream of your best self-care day1

movement your body needs motion to replenish and restore. You need something that simulates forward progression. Your draw figures with your body to find balance. you levitate. Whether you're walking, running or dancing, contorting your frame is how you release, change, reshape and revise. Exercising Taking a dance class Creating your own dance Creating a celebratory jig when good happens Worshipping through movement Using your athleticism Stretching your body through Yoga, Wellness Classes, or Fitness Classes

MOVEMENT IS A MAJOR, MAJOR KEY by Urma Redmond Let's be honest, sis. You know when it’s time to get to movin’. Moving on, moving forward, moving past a certain instance or situation...whatever the case may be, movement is necessary when it comes to establishing self-love for yourself. It’s through motion that we’re able to achieve stimulation, an essential factor that challenges and encourages us to continue growing. It’s through movement that we’re able to change, reshape, and reconfigure any old perspectives or habits that may have kept us hindered. Moving keeps us from becoming stagnant. Yes...we could all definitely use a little more movement (and action!) in our livelihood. While movement can certainly be referred to moving through mental blocks and barriers, we want to focus on literal movement for your self-love. There always seems to be issues or scenarios that we find ourselves having to work out...often, they can be remedied by literally working out.

There are tons of benefits to participating in physical activity on a daily basis. Get into these perks: Helps promote overall health. Why be out of shape when you

out consistently builds you can be out of this world? Working up to be the bad gal you truly are! Acts as a stress reliever. As Black women, we’re no stranger to stress. It’s inevitable, but when you work all that bad juju out, we become invincible to everything that tries us. Helps increase your energy. How you gonna win if you ain’t right within? Physical activity gives us the energy to keep fighting and keep pushing for another day. It’s a true mojo that we can’t get enough of.

The magnificent thing about including movement into your self-love livelihood is that there’s no one-size-fit-all exercise. You get to decide what works out best for you and your body. There’s something out there for everyone looking to get their sweat on:

SELF-LOVE LANGUAGE: WHAT A CUP OF TEA TAUGHT ME ABOUT STILLNESS by Urma Redmond Let’s be clear: we believe that you should be intentionally giving yourself self-care everyday. Believe it or not...a small cup of tea can teach you a big ole lesson. As Black women, we often find ourselves on the edge. Sometimes the easiest (and most meaningful) way to climb down off that edge is to wade into a cup of tea. How beautiful to know that even with the world making all these sharp turns and lefts...tea will always be still. You just have to endure the patience to get to your tea; once you’re there, you get to your healing. There’s importance in following through on the steps to crafting a cup of tea. Whether you wake up with a sick immune system or a sick heart, you have to decide to take the steps to feel better. There’s no magical supplement to selflove or joy; only work will get you there. Here was what a cup of tea teaches us about the value of being still:

Preparation + Creation Take the time to discover what it is that you need. Mix and manifest essential gems, such as honey or lemons, to enhance your tea, which will in turn enhance your well-being. Once you get your tea together, you can continue to get yourself together. Turn the knob and watch carefully as your water begins to steam and boil. Place the tea into the cup of comfort that’s prepared to be filled. Pour the water into that cup, as though you’re pouring love back into yourself. Add in drips and drops of your chosen gems. There’s an excitement in taking the time to intentionally prepare tea for a specific purpose. Anticipation Now you wait. It sounds ideal to jump into your healing medication. I understand how quickly you want to get your groove back after you’ve been drenched in a funk. You get restless waiting to embrace a good feeling. Please, don’t burn yourself by taking that hot, first sip. You don’t want to hurt yourself. You cannot rush your healing process; the same way you cannot rush the cooling of a scalding hot cup of tea. The anticipation is tough. The stillness is tough. But the wait is worth it.

We hope that with your next cup of tea, you can appreciate whatever stillness you’re in. Looking for some new bomb teas to try out? Here are a few of our fav (all Black-owned as well!):

JUST ADD HONEY

Ivy’s Tea Co. BROOKLYN TEA

Digestion + Relaxation

When the tea is ready, and when you’re ready, you continue to take your steps. You take your sips until you’re able to gulp down the entire cup. It’s heartwarming. Your body is rooting for you. Your body is celebrating your conscious decisions and excellent effort. Your body is proud, and grateful that you made it through the cup. Relax. Find peace and comfort in knowing that your self-love is active. It’s ongoing. It's your journey to honor. The next time you find yourself in a waiting period, feeling restless and wondering what’s next...remember the value of stillness. Remember how stillness allows you to truly indulge in and prepare for your ongoing journey to self-love. Remember how stillness plays an essential role in your overall health and well-being.

determining (and embracing) your own value. That being said...it’s hard out here! It can be overwhelming to figure out everything solely on your own. The good news is that you don’t have to! You’re familiar with the phrase, “It takes a village”, right? That sentiment doesn’t only apply to raising a child; it also applies to becoming the best version of yourself! Yes, the work is on you, but the support? The support is out there, sis. While you’re on your self-love discovery, lean into your community. Lean on your family, friends, and loved ones. Lean on your support systems. Lean on groups and resources that you admire, that you look up to, and that inspire you to continue growing. Here are a few excellent brands to follow that will help you bloom into the beautiful flower you are:
