HOMEWOOD SCHOOL & Sixth Form Centre

LEARNING RESPECT BELONGING

AN INCLUSIVE SCHOOL WITH A REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE

A warm Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre. Our school ethos is built on the priorities of Learning, Respect, and Belonging.

We believe that fostering a respectful and inclusive community is essential for effective learning and personal growth. Through high-quality teaching and a commitment to excellence, we challenge our students to reach their full potential and excel throughout their educational journeys.

At Homewood, we offer an exciting and varied curriculum designed to cater to a wide range of abilities and interests.

Our semi-selective criteria enables us to place students on pathways that best suit their needs due to the exceptionally wide range of courses available. As part of this approach, our Grammar Plus Stream provides a challenging curriculum equivalent to that of a grammar school but within a mixed setting and with a much wider range of options and opportunities. We believe that education extends beyond the classroom, and our extensive

range of extra-curricular activities reflects this philosophy. From sports and arts to clubs and societies, there are numerous opportunities for students to explore their passions and develop new skills.

At Homewood, individual care and support are at the heart of what we do. Our dedicated pastoral care system ensures that every student receives the guidance and support they need to flourish. We work closely with parents and carers to create a nurturing environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to achieve their best.

As part of the Tenterden Schools Trust, we benefit from strong links with local primary schools and the wider community.

This collaboration enriches our educational environment and provides additional opportunities for our students, enhancing their learning experiences and fostering a sense of responsibility and citizenship.

Homewood is an exciting, dynamic, and supportive place to learn and flourish. We have high aspirations for each and every one of our students and are dedicated to helping them succeed.

Please do come and visit us to find out more about the many opportunities which await you here.

PARENT

Excellence

Homewood has a strong track record of academic success at GCSE level and in the Sixth Form, and we are proud to celebrate the exceptional outcomes achieved by all of our students.

Our commitment to excellence ensures that students thrive, with our overall school outcomes on a consistent upward trend. This remarkable progress continues to add notable value to each child’s potential, empowering them to achieve their dreams and aspirations. Our dedicated and caring staff and innovative teaching methods create an environment where every student can excel and reach their highest potential.

Whilst we are delighted with our continued examination success, we never lose sight of the fact that we are here to educate

the whole child and are proud of our many partnerships which help to create an assortment of different opportunities for our students beyond the classroom.

Our well-qualified teaching team works hard to deliver high-quality lessons, and we are also dedicated to providing interventions and support to ensure that all students can succeed. This is complemented by personalised learning guidance provided by Form Tutors and the Community system, ensuring every student receives the individual support they need.

Support & Care

Homewood provides a secure and caring learning environment in which all students can flourish and succeed.

This starts well before the new Year 7 intake arrives with Year 6 students receiving a one-to-one interview, being visited at their primary school and attending the Year 6 induction week. This rigorous foundation ensures concerns are quickly addressed so that any barriers to learning can be removed.

Students in Year 7 join one of 5 Communities (Endeavour, Fortitude, Pioneer, Quest and Voyager) and have a dedicated form tutor and a highly experienced and well-qualified pastoral team to look after their welfare and ensure their academic progress.

“Students

benefit from being part of one of six Communities that help to structure the school’s pastoral support. Through these, students feel known and valued. They know that there is always a member of staff who will make time to support them.”

Facilities & Enrichment

“Homewood has fantastic facilities, and there are so many different opportunities available that it’s difficult not to get involved!”

STUDENT

Enrichment

Homewood has exceptional facilities for all its students, providing a platform for their learning in all subjects.

These range from our vocational Balcony Restaurant, where students learn how to cook and serve food, to the fully working Home Farm. Alternatively, students may choose to specialise in Sciences in one of our large fully-equipped laboratories or take up one of the many aspects of Performing Arts working in The Sinden Theatre. There are a tremendous array of additional opportunities in which students can become involved.

There are over 50 school clubs available and in addition the school runs in excess of 100 educational visits each year to local and international destinations, which in recent years have included Switzerland, New York and China.

Homewood has developed active links with over two hundred partners to improve opportunities for students. The school is also part of the Tenterden Schools Trust, a unique Multi-Academy Trust involving a number of local schools. This partnership in particular enables us to work closely together to ensure the best possible education and achievement for all the young people in our community, from nursery school through to the Sixth Form.

Pathways & Future

There is an exceptionally broad range of courses available at GCSE and in the Sixth Form, consisting of different pathways to help meet the individual needs and aspirations of our students.

Individual guidance at key transition points is provided to ensure the most appropriate selection of courses for individuals, whether academic or vocational or a combination of both. This continues into the highly successful Sixth Form, which attracts the vast majority of Homewood students to stay on, in addition to the many new students who join us from other schools.

In the Sixth Form a thorough support programme guides students in their next steps beyond Homewood, whether these be Further Education, an apprenticeship, employment or Higher Education.

Future

“Students

value the extensive range of courses they are able to follow. The vocational and creative opportunities are wide and support the more traditional options well.”
