Eliza Doolittle, the main character in the Broadway musical “My Fair Lady,” makes a salient point about respect when she tells a visitor: “The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated. I shall always be a common flower girl to Professor Higgins because he always treats me as a common flower girl and always will. But I know that I shall always be a lady to Colonel Pickering because he always treats me like a lady and always will.” If you treat people like winners, they will act like winners. And conversely, if you treat them like losers, they will act like losers or at least resent you. The secret is to find something to respect in everyone you deal with. Conflict is all around us. Same with opinions. We may think we are accepting of others, but many people see the world and all its issues differently. Are you respectful if someone has a different opinion from yours? Do you have an openBeingmind?respectful is a valuable quality, both personally and professionally. It’s important to treat people with courtesy and politeness. The word “courtesy” literally means “the way of the court.” This means acting like you would in the king’s court. Displaying the same actions and attitudes appropriate in the presence of royalty is a good guide for all our everyday dealings with others. Because when you treat others better

Robert Louis Stevenson, Scottish essayist, novelist and poet, offered this description of the personal characteristic that brings respect from others: “That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.”

The tongue is but three inches long, yet it can kill a person six feet tall. The damage of gossip is not easily undone. So often the harm that gossip inflicts is irrevocable. A word can be more powerful than a sword. And your reputation takes a big hit, because others are concerned that you can’t be trusted with their information.Beinclusive.

Wouldn’t it be great if more of us adopted that philosophy? It seems especially appropriate for the times we live in, when respect for others often appears to take a back seat. Consider this your chance to change your little corner of the world. Make your behavior a shining example for others to emulate. You won’t have any regrets for showing respect.

You also need to be sensitive to the feelings of others. You might not even realize that your comments are hurtful so be careful what you say. Words are powerful, so speak with kind words. It also helps to have an open mind and be willing to hear opposing opinions. Too many people want to cast judgment before they even hear an opposing point of view. Treat others how you want to be treated. Look for common ground. Chances are that you have something in common. I have many friends with opposing viewpoints, but we have a mutual interest in something. Be a good listener. Give people your full attention. If you want people to listen to you, you must listen to them. And if you commit to something, follow through. If you say you are going to do something, do it. Bailing out is disrespectful. Trust is a must. I am convinced that T-RU-S-T is the most important five-letter word in business – not sales or money (or any other replaceable commodities). Trust can be fragile, especially in the workplace. Once it’s broken, few companies, managers or employees ever win itDon’tback.gossip.

Tom Kuehne Working with individuals that have Medicare is what I do. It has three benefits for me, which causes me to get out of bed each morning.
The second benefit is a big help to me. I write a weekly article for the Hometown Tom Kuehne News. It is really difficult to find subjects for the articles that the readers will find interesting. At first I primarily wrote about personal remembrances, but after a while there was nothing new to write about. I had to expand to new ideas given by friends and readers. Since the stories have been appearing for over 3 years, the newness has gone away and there seem to be fewer new ideas expressed to me. The Medicare time offers the opportunity for individuals to contact me and during the conversation, because they usually have accumulated a lot of experiences through the years, we begin sharing experiences that occurred during our lifetimes. Things like, “you know, my uncle told stories about the war,” “my Grandpa and Grandma talked a lot about the depression,” “the neighbor loved to tell interesting stories about hunting and fishing,” “Dad liked to tell stories about the big blizzard back in '41,” “Mom shared stories about giving birth at home.” These become roots for stories, since I try to do stories that are about life as we remember it and if it isn't written somewhere, the experiences will pass on along with the person who lived the story. The third benefit is financial. I make my living by taking care of the people who do business with me. Whether it's life or health insurance, I do represent insurance companies that are leaders and well known in the industry. I have access to over 100 companies, which gives my clients the ability to choose coverage from a company that will do the best job for their specific health or financial issues. Hope this was informative along with giving you a better idea of me.
Upon arrival deputies learned that Eric Zirbes, 45, of Melrose, was operating a New Holland self-propelled discbine in a nearby alfalfa field when Michael Zirbes, 76, of Sauk Centre, had stopped by and was speak ing to Eric. While climbing down the lad der on the side of the equipment, attempting to get off the discbine, Michael fell to the ground. The height of the fall was estimat ed to be 5 to 6 feet. He came to rest against the equipment’s tire. Michael was treated on scene and transported to the Melrose Hospi tal by Melrose Ambulance Service where he passed away as a result of the accident. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Melrose Police Department, Melrose Fire and Rescue Service, and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to assist at the scene. Stearns Co. Sheriff’s Office

The first benefit is the opportunity to offer individuals a variety of solutions to their Medicare needs. Each year I am required to relearn the basic Federal Medicare rules and regulations, in addition to the new regulations that are applied each year. I am then required to spend time with each company that I use to solve the clients needs. This retraining requires over a week of study. Medicare solutions involve many facets, including doctor, hospital, medicine, dental, hearing, vision, hospice, over the counter, home and nursing home care. Due to the many facets involved, there are many questions that individuals have. It gives me a really good feeling to be able to find the answers, knowing that I am really helping someone.

Dear Motor Medics, We’re getting ready to send our daughter to college and are shopping for a car that will get her through the next four years. We don’t know what we are going to choose but it will likely be 3-4 years old and probably out of warranty or very near it. We know that we will take care of the car we buy but how can we be sure it was taken care of before we bought it? We have heard of vehicle history reporting agencies that can do background checks, but we don’t know how they work or what they cover. What do you suggest when purchasing a used car that will help us the most? -Connie in Henderson, Texas Dear Connie, Purchasing a used car can be a fun experience if it turns out to be what you expect, but It can be hard to tell how the car was treated before you owned it. I would strongly recommend that you don’t purchase a vehicle without having an independent source inspect it. Take it to the mechanic you trust and give it a good check, this can often catch things that would cost you a lot of money. When I purchase a car, I always use a vehicle history reporting agency to give me more insight as to the cars past. While these agencies have some good reports, they are not complete maintenance records so never go without an independent inspection.-Takecare, the Motor Medics

Sudoku is one of the most popular puzzle games of all time. The goal of Sudoku is to fill a 9×9 grid with numbers so that each row, column and 3×3 section contain all of the digits between 1 and 9. As a logic puzzle, Sudoku is also an excellent brain game.
Dear Dave, I recently had a judgment filed against me for an unpaid, old hospital bill. Is it possible to negotiate things with the lawyer? Originally, the charges were $2,700 but now they have increased to $3,500, and I am not sure why the amount has risen. I have made several phone calls asking him for a detailed statement of the account, but all I have received is a payment booklet. What is your advice?-Ronnie Dear Ronnie, Are you sure you’ve been speaking directly to the lawyer? I’m guessing the reason you haven’t gotten a real answer to your question is because you’ve actually been talking to some low-level staffer or paralegal. If you have been talking to the lawyer, there’s a pretty good chance he’s running a small debt collections or debt lawsuit machine. If this is the case, he probably gets a piece of whatever he collects. That means he’s out to collect as much as possible, as quickly as he can. You might consider changing tactics, and see if you can talk to the hospital administrator. Propose giving them $2,000, or whatever reasonable amount you can afford, on the agreement that the hospital accept it as payment in full.

Dear Motor Medics, I may have a ghost? I have one in my 1999 Caravan. When I’m driving it does things by itself like honk the horn, the cruise will just shut off by itself, and the air bag light will come on and then go back off. There’s no pattern to this but it seems to happen at the worst times. I was driving through a parking lot, and everyone thought I was honking at them. Once my horn started honking by itself at 2 a.m. and woke up my neighbors. Can you help me bust this ghost?-Clarence in Sheldon, Iowa Dear Clarence, Ghosts scare me so you’re on your own! Kidding aside, I think I can help and maybe with a free repair. The first thing I would have you do is to contact your local Dodge dealer and give them your vehicle identification number found at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side. Ask them if there is a clock spring recall on your van. If there is one that has not been done, then the repair may be free. If not, you’ll have to pay for the repair, but it is likely what’s causing the problems you are describing. The clock spring is what makes the connection between the steering wheel electronics and the column. When you turn the wheel, the wires coil up and with age can break or short causing your issues. Hopefully this busts your ghost.Take care, the Motor Medics For entertainment only. Always consult your local shop and follow all safety procedures before repairs. Come visit the Motor Medics® online at Underthehoodshow.com.
