Resolving conflicts is good for business -By Harvey Mackay We all get angry at work sometimes.

Conflicts in the workplace can get out of hand when people stop listening to each other and instead concentrate on defending their positions.

The late management guru Peter Drucker said, “The only things that evolve by themselves in an organization are disorder, friction and malperformance.”

In my opinion, the three are closely related. And most of those issues are caused by friction – workplace conflicts.

Serious office feuds can really hurt productivity. It’s hard to use a computer when you’re wearing boxing gloves.

But conflict in the workplace doesn’t have to turn into full-scale war.

Smart managers don’t let their emotions get out of control. Smart employees also need to keep their tempers in check.

Before exploding at an employee or coworker, remember this advice: Listen to their story. You have to get problems out in the open before you can resolve them. Much of the

time, an employee simply wants to be heard. Sit back and let the person speak.

Employees will be more willing to listen to other points of view once they’ve had a chance to express their feelings. And if you realize you’re not saying anything constructive, stop talking. Let the other person continue until he or she realizes you’ve disengaged from the power struggle.

Pay attention to your behavior.

What’s your tone of voice? What is your body language saying to the other person? Focusing on your reactions and emotions will help you stay calm. Try to discern whether the other person wants something from you that he or she isn’t asking for.

Identify the real problem. Often the stated reason for a disagreement masks a hidden problem. You might be upset when an employee misses a deadline, but the root cause of your anger may be a perceived lack of respect for you.

Ask yourself and the other person (or people), “What’s really getting in the way of a solution here?” Find the real obstacle and you’ll be in a much better position to remove it.

Focus on the big picture. Disputes can be messy, with problems overlapping each other. Don’t get too involved in the details but keep an eye on the overall impact of the problem. Once

the main issues are on the table, trivial disagreements tend to disappear.

Don’t push too fast. Even when the solution is obvious, don’t suggest it too quickly. People need time to process their feelings about the situation. An employee may want the other person to understand how he or she feels. Solving the problem in five minutes won’t create a real sense of resolution. If possible, take some time to discuss options and think things over before offering advice or imposing a solution.

Take responsibility for communication. As a manager or employee, you have to clear the air – even if the other person tries to let the problem drop. Insist on an open, honest dialogue that lets everyone express his or her needs and opinions honestly.

Stay positive. Take a deep breath and try to control the impulse that makes you fight back. Try to find something positive, even just the fact that you’re gaining experience dealing with conflict.

Focus on the here and now. Don’t bring up problems or disagreements from the past. Stick to the present situation. Keep words like “always” and “never” out of the conversation, such as, “You’re always late to work”—to avoid blowing the argument out of proportion.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne Thanksgiving Afternoon What did you do after the Thanksgiving Feast? For many of us, we spent the time either helping clean the many dishes or retiring to a comfortable place to watch football. Some of us began a trip to our home or possibly to another Thanksgiving celebration.

Actually what we did was to sit and let the meal attach itself to our bodies.

Remembering Thanksgivings in our earlier years, we probably found ourselves being more physically active.

The older ladies, who were not so active entertained themselves by knitting socks for Christmas gifts and visiting.

The older guys would busy themselves with their pipes, cigars and cigarettes, while rapping their knuckles on the table taking tricks in the whist game.

In our younger years, families frequently followed a pattern of activities which were a pattern of what “you always do at Thanksgiving.”

Some families came “home” every year and spent the afternoon decorating the folk’s home for Christmas. This usually was accompanied by drawing names for Christmas giving. This frequently involved finding that some jokester had drawn your name, along with the threat of knowing that you were probably getting a funny or inappropriate gift. Then you wished that you had their name, because you could think of so many gifts to give them that would cause a lot of laughter at Christmas.

Another family went squirrel hunting every Thanksgiving, (weather permitting). After the meal was cleaned up, everyone that was physically able, went to the woods as a group. There would be as many as 25 people and only one or two 22 rifles. They usually only found one or two squirrels, but felt they were saving some of the corn, which was still standing in the field.

I remember going to the river with my dad and uncle to shoot some big northern mallards on the river. It was the last hunt, since it was the last day of the hunting season. Thinking back, I wouldn’t attempt a hunt like that again.

The river had open water to attract the ducks, but we had to walk across about 100 yards of reeds to get to the river.

Two managers didn’t like each other, and made it clear to everyone by finger-pointing and name calling. When problems arose, they took great pleasure in blaming the other’s department or decision-making rather than trying to solve the problem.

them both in for a meeting. The insults and blame game started before they had taken their seats. But the boss put an abrupt end to their squabbling.

She said, “Let’s just get one thing straight here. This is all my fault. I’m the one who hired both of you.”

This 100 yard walk was across floating bog. You walked on vegetation that was floating on water. If you jiggled at your standing position, the guy standing 50 feet away would move up and down.

The water under foot varied in depth from 2 to 6 feet deep. The bottom under the water was black, muddy yuk, which is a common bottom that develops from years of plant rotting and disintegration.

Not a fun place to spend your last minutes.

If weather permitted, my dad and I would go ice fishing for crappies. The fish usually bit well, but the ice was usually still quite flexible. We would stand at least 10 feet from the hole, so that your weight didn’t cause water to come out of the hole and flood the ice.

You made certain that both of you didn’t try to land a fish out of the same hole at the same time. It was both a challenge and lots of fun.

Some of us who lived on a dairy farm, knew that there were steers, calves, pigs, chickens and dairy cows that were waiting to be fed, watered, milked and bedded. Looking back at these duties, they seem like a job we are glad we no longer must do. At the time, we accomplished these duties and actually looked forward to them.

The barns were warm and filled with

animals that really appreciated the food we gave them. I don’t know if they appreciated us removing the digested food from their pens and I don’t think we appreciated having to do it either.

But it was all part of life as we knew it.

Today, Thanksgiving has become more of a time to sit back and relax.

Obituaries Gloria J. Dorn

Gloria J. Dorn, age 92, of Little Canada; died on November 17, 2018. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; sons, Dennis and Douglas; grandson, Mark; greatgranddaughter, Kylie; parents, Robert and

Viola; sister, Muriel Smith; and brother, Robert “Bud”.

She is survived by daughter, Diane (Tom) Grahn; son, David (Judy); daughterin-law, Dianne; 10 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brothers, Larry (Bev) and Ron (Connie) Stroschein; sister, Jolene Tierney; sisterin-law, Sharon Stroschein; and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 26 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Roseville. A private interment was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

home and working on the farm. Cliff was also a Sauk Centre school bus driver for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Cliff had a passion for John Deere tractors, being a part of Pioneer Days, antiques, attending auctions, and working on the farm. He cherished family gatherings.

Clifford H. Jennissen, age 77 of Sauk Centre, died after injuries sustained in a farm accident on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, November 24 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment was held in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Clifford Henry Jennissen was born May 8, 1941 in Villard, Minnesota to Peter and Doris (Schramel) Jennissen. He grew up north of Sauk Centre on the Jennissen farm.

At age 16, he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1967. Cliff was united in marriage to Janet Arens on April 27, 1963 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple rented farm land by Westport and Fairy Lake and was able to purchase their own farm in 1970. Farming was Cliff’s passion which he would never give up. He truly loved being

Gladys Anderson was born May 22, 1921 to Annie (Norberg) and Louis Anderson at their home in Middle River MN. At 17 she went to complete high school at the University of Minnesota Agricultural School. It was here that, in 1939, she met Alfred Hoglund. Shortly after their meeting, he went to fight in WWII and Gladys went to work as a secretary at Standard Oil in Fargo. While on furlough, in 1943, the couple were engaged.

Hilding S. “Steve” Nelson

Hilding S. “Steve” Nelson, age 71 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 30 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Michael Carlson officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Hilding Steven Nelson was born September 4, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Hilding and Olive (Hazelquist) Nelson. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. Steve worked in Seattle, Washington for the U.S. Forestry Service and also served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Morocco, North Africa as a forestry engineer.

Steve was united in marriage to Dianna Myhre on June 20, 1970 at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, Minnesota. He worked at the Milroy and Sauk Centre Co-op Elevators and later owned and operated Steve’s Dairy Sales and Service for many years. Steve also worked at Osakis Ag Service, Walmart, and for the past 20 years, co-owned Sunrise View Adult Foster Care with Dianna.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, Alexandria Gun Club, and the Sauk Centre Lions Club where Steve was past president and held numerous other offices. Steve’s pride and enjoyment were his German Shorthair hunting dogs and the puppies he raised and sold. He loved hunting and fishing. His family was very important to him and he adored each of his grandchildren.

Steve enjoyed traveling, especially on motorcycle trips with his friend, Rod. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Dianna Nelson of Sauk Centre; children, Peter (Jennifer) Nelson of Sauk Centre, Jamila (Aaron) Drevlow of Cottage Grove, and Ryan (Siobhan) Nelson of Columbus, Indiana; ten grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Karen and Mary Nelson of Minneapolis; and his adult foster care family, Lisa, Irene, and Ramona.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; and father and mother-inlaw, Johnny and Thora Myhre.

Gladys and Alfred were married in 1944.

They made their home in the Twin Cities for two years prior to moving to Little Sauk Township where they lived and worked their farm together for 60 years. Al passed away in 2001. In 2006 Gladys moved to Long Prairie.

Gladys’s faith was important to her. She was active in the Reynolds Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. In her younger years, Gladys enjoyed working as a counselor at Trout Lake Bible Camp. She worked hard, always doing what needed to be done, whether that be the farm chores or cooking delicious meals for a crowd; canning fruit and vegetables or baking. Leisure time was spent fishing, reading, knitting or completing puzzles. Gladys was known to be always ready with cookies and coffee. She loved to visit with her many dear friends and loving family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gladys is survived by her sisters Eva (Bob) Carriere, Becker, Carol (Chuck) Devries, Chanhassen, Lois (Duane) Munson, Roseville and many nieces and nephews.

Rose E. Wiechman, age 98 of St. Rosa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 1 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Abbott John Klassen, O.S.B. officiating and Rev. Dan Walz concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.

Rose Elizabeth Westendorf was born November 11, 1920 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Mary (Duevel) Westendorf. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls.

After high school, Rose studied at a Business College in St. Cloud and worked at Fandel’s.

After her mother’s death, she returned to Melrose to live with her father and worked at REA. On May 4, 1948 she married Alois Wiechman at St. Boniface Catholic Church

Kalie A. Olson

Kalie A. Olson, 16 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with David Sperstad officiating. Burial took place at the East Swanville Cemetery near Swanville, MN. Kalie Ann Olson was born on March 28, 2002 in St. Cloud MN to Kelli Olson and Randy Ligman. Kalie attended school in Upsala from pre-school until the 9th grade and was presently a 10th grader at the Little Falls High School. Kalie enjoyed playing many sports, with softball being her favorite. She was well known for bringing

in Melrose and they moved to the family farm east of St. Rosa.

Rose was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, Christian Mothers, St. Loretta’s Mission Group, and St. Rose Catholic United Financial. Rose enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and reading.

She was a great bread maker and was always ready and willing to learn something new.

Survivors include her children, Sister Janice Wiechman of San Rafael, Mexico, Mary (Harvey) Kimman of Pierz, Ruth Wiechman of St. Cloud, James (Linda) Wiechman of Port Angeles, Washington, Mark (Bev) Wiechman of St. Rosa, Louise (Greg) Claypole of Park Hills, Kentucky, Anne (Tom) Vollrath of DePere, Wisconsin, Stephen (Cheryl) Wiechman of St. Rosa, Carla Wiechman of Seattle, Washington, and Martha (Mike) Udermann of Rosemount; 38 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren; and brother, Herman (Norma) Westendorf of Melrose.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Alois Wiechman on June 5, 2013; parents; infant daughter, Helen Mary Wiechman; grandson, Ben Casey Wiechman; great-grandson, Leo Arvig; and brothers and sisters, Sister Julitta Westendorf, Ben Westendorf, Mary Petermeier, Anne Lahr, Loretta Johnson, and Joe Westendorf.

lived in rural St. Cloud until 1986 when they moved to Lincoln, NE. They returned to the area in 1995 and resided in Sauk Rapids. Delores was a member of Mary of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a member of Christian Mothers.

She was also a member of St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622 Auxiliary, Red Hats and RSVP. Delores loved to volunteer. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, cooking, canning, sewing and making teddy bears.

A parade down Swanville’s main street included the busload of returning veterans and their spouses escorted by Morrison County Sheriff’s Department patrol cars and fire equipment from Swanville and Upsala.

American Legion and VFW clubs from Swanville, Upsala, Sauk Centre and other area residents welcomed the returning group of veterans from Vietnam at Red’s Irish Pub in Swanville. This group of 10 war veterans and their wives followed another group of 10 vets that made the trip last spring.

Grey Eagle Community Choir to Perform their Annual Advent Concert Dec. 2

The Grey Eagle Community Choir will perform their annual Advent concert “Joy to the World” on Sunday, December 2 at St Joseph’s Church in Grey Eagle at 4 PM. After the concert, a fellowship with coffee, cookies and juice will be served in the parish hall to all who attend the concert.The fellowship event is provided by all the ladies of the local churches.

Also performing with the choir is the Handbell Choir. A few years back the Grey Eagle-Burtrum Lions donated a set of bells to the community. This summer the bell choir played at all three local churches during a mass. In this Advent concert, the bell choir will perform a few pieces without the choir and one with the choir. The concert on Sunday

A few years ago I was sitting in the office of a dear friend and orthopedic surgeon. Because of his God-given skills he was able to correct the misdiagnosis of another physician that enabled me to walk once again.

As we sat and talked he asked me how things had been going with my health. After explaining my ordeal with cancer and several other illnesses, he looked at me and said very seriously, “You have no reason to be alive!”

But he was wrong.

There was every reason for me to be alive. It was God who brought the healing to my body even though there were several physicians who worked with Him along the way. David was certainly aware of God’s role in the healing process when he wrote, “and heals all your diseases.” If God is the one who heals all of our diseases, why does He do this?

Who is the beneficiary of His healing?

Us or Him? There is no doubt in my mind that God heals us that we might bring honor and glory to Him by serving Him faithfully. If He restores our health, we must realize that it is a gift of His grace and we show our gratefulness to Him by giving Him the glory and working with Him in this, His world.

We can only demonstrate our gratitude to Him, after we thank Him, by what we do for Him. Gratitude is not gratitude unless we become involved in building His Kingdom. Working with Him and through Him is not an option.

It is a requirement if He has “healed our diseases.”

We know that we will take care of the car we buy but how can we be sure it was taken care of before we buy it? We have heard of vehicle history reporting agencies that can do background checks but we don’t know how they work or what they cover. What do you suggest when purchasing a used car that will help us the most?

I would strongly recommend that you don’t purchase a vehicle without having an independent source inspect it. Take it to the mechanic you trust and give it a good check, this can often catch things that would cost you a lot of money.

When I purchase a car I always use a vehicle history reporting agency to give me more insight as to the car’s past. While these agencies have some good reports, they are not the complete maintenance records so never go without an independent inspection.

things by itself like honk the horn, the cruise will just shut off by itself, and the air bag light will come on and then go back off. There’s no pattern to this but it seems to happen at the worst times. I was driving through a parking lot and everyone thought I was honking at them.

Once my horn started honking by itself at 2 a.m. and woke up my neighbors.

The first thing I would have you do is to contact your local Dodge dealer and give them your vehicle identification number found at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side. Ask them if there is a clock spring recall on your van. If there is one that has not been done then the repair may be free. If not, you’ll have to pay for the repair but it is likely what’s causing the problems you are describing.

The clock spring is what makes the connection between the steering wheel electronics and the column. When you turn the wheel the wires coil up and with age can break or short causing your issues. Hopefully this busts your ghost.

Bitz and Piecez -By Pastor Bitz The Fig Tree - Mark 13:24-37 A few chapters of Mark have been skipped due to time off and now we pick up in chapter 13. A lot happens in those chapters, and we might revisit them in the future. In chapter 13 Jesus gets into teaching concerning the “Signs of the Close of the Age,” “The Abomination of Desolation” and “The Coming of the Son of Man.” Following these teaching we have “The Lesson of the Fig Tree.”

Back in chapter 11 when Jesus curses the fig tree it begs the question, what did that fig tree do that it was cursed by Jesus? Or better yet what had the church (the scribes, the Pharisees and their followers) done so wrong?

From what I can tell a fig tree is like an apple tree in that it blooms and puts on leaves early in spring. Once the leaves are well established there should be signs of the tree’s fruit. Like checking out an apple tree and not finding any little green apples, Jesus sees no future figs on this tree and he curses it. The church that is in leaf but does not show signs of forgiveness among its branches will not produce fruit of forgiveness later in the season. This is good enough reason for Jesus to charge in and cleanse the temple in chapter 11.

In our text Jesus is preparing his disciples for the final age of mankind. The age of the church, the Christian church, anno domini – the year of our Lord. So what is this lesson we should learn from the fig tree? Well it is one of reading signs. Like a tree that has no fruit on it early in the season we can know that there will be no fruit on that tree come harvest time. Just like we can tell that summer is coming by seeing the leaves start to bud we can tell when Christ will

return by reading the signs, yet no one knows the day or hour.

It is tempting at times to simply be a child of God. To sit back, absorb the sun, receive God’s mercy but just putting out leaves is not enough, for God created us to bear fruit in keeping with repentance.

So repent and believe in the Gospel. Repentance and forgiveness is the fruit of faith. The message Jesus Christ the Son of God has for his people is a message of repentance. The lesson of the fig tree is that their will be signs we can see as the close of the age takes place. Just like Jesus could tell that there would be no fruit on the fig tree later that summer he can tell if people will be bearing fruit when their season arrives.

The season for Christians is now.

We are at the end of another church year. We prepare for the coming of Jesus with Advent starting December 2nd.

There are signs in the World around us that people are becoming ready to once again repent and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. As Christians we give them this chance by inviting them to join with us to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and Easter for that matter which is our call from a merciful God to repent and believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God. This is where we confess and hear his Word and are empowered to live Holy and repentant lives. Invite them to join us. Repent and believe the Gospel and you will have learned the lesson of the fig tree. Amen.

“Farming in Tough Times” Meeting to be held December 7 University of Minnesota Extension will host “Farming in Tough Times,” an educational meeting for area agricultural producers who may find themselves confronting various challenges as a result of the economic state of agriculture.

The workshop will be held on Friday, December 7 at ElmerZ Restaurant and Event Center, located at 1225 Timberlane Drive, Sauk Centre, MN. The workshop will run from 10:30 a.m.

-2:30 p.m., with registration starting at 10:00 a.m. This meeting is offered free of charge and includes lunch.

This event will focus on farm stress, mental well-being, and building resiliency. The agenda will feature several engaging speakers and topic experts.

Dennis has more than 35 years experience in regional and rural communities helping them cope with change – at the personal, family, business and community level. He will provide real life, common sense approaches to dealing with hardships and building resilience in the face of adversity. Dennis has worked with the grains industry in Australia and agribusiness and banking companies that serve remote, regional, and rural communities

Farming in Tough Times will also feature an outstanding panel with speakers with various experiences related to stress, mental well-being, and resiliency.

Panelists include Meg Moynihan with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture; Mark Koehn, a former hog farmer and current agricultural assessor with Stearns County; Brenda Rudolph, Morrison County dairy producer; and Brenda Miller with University of Minnesota Extension. The event will also feature speakers on positive psychology and mental health resources.

Several positive comments were heard concerning the Airbnb.

The siren is working again; the transformer blew, but has been repaired by Minnesota Power.

Discharge samples will be sent in this month.

The in-floor heat in the maintenance building has been turned on.

Fire Department Report: The Minutes of the Fire Department were presented.

The Department did a farm extrication training last month.

Fire prevention week was the week of October 7; the Department held programs at the school and Community Covenant Church.

The Fire Department and First Response open house was a success serving roughly 200 people.

The Department’s next training will be in January with an outdoor auto extrication.

By-Laws and SOG’s: Olson moved to adopt the Upsala Fire Department’s Standard Operating Guidelines as presented, 2nd by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

Recreation Board: The minutes from the October Rec Board Meeting were presented.

Inflow and Infiltration: Koopmeiners explained the help the City can receive at a very low cost from Minnesota Rural Water by using a smoke test to find leaks in the sewer lines where inflow and infiltration occur. This project will be done in June of 2019.

CEDA Contract: Bartells moved to approve the contract with the Community and Economic Development Associates for 2019 with the understanding that the City can opt out of the contract at the end of any given quarter with no remaining balance due, 2nd by Olson. Motion carried unanimously.

Certifying the Election Results: Bartells moved hold a meeting on Thursday, November 8 at 8:00 a.m. to certify the election results, 2nd by Olson. Motion carried unanimously.

Snowmobile trails still need more snow, cold temperatures

Early cold temperatures and several inches of snow in parts of the state have many snowmobile enthusiasts excited to take their first ride of the season, but most trails will need more snow before grooming can begin. Most of the state’s snowmobile trails are not yet ready for riding, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Minnesota’s snowmobile trails officially open Dec. 1 each year; and several conditions must be met before trails are open, groomed and ready for travel: The ground must be frozen. Where trails cross wetlands, 15 inches of ice is needed to support the weight of the trail groomers.

Adequate snow cover, about 12 inches, must be on the ground to allow for trail packing and grooming.

Trails must be cleared of fallen trees, signs put in place and gates opened. Snowmobile club volunteers and DNR staff are currently working on these tasks.

“While the cold air is helping the ground freeze, we still need more snow and thicker ice to access trail segments that cross wet areas for brush clearing and other maintenance,” said Grand Rapids area supervisor Guy Lunz.

“Crews are out now removing brush from trails where they can, and the pace will pick up as continued cold freezes the low lying areas.” Even after a chilly start to November, ice on most lakes is not safe for travel. The DNR recommends a minimum of 5-7 inches of new clear ice for snowmobiles.

riders to use caution. Early season trails may have trees or debris across them, unfrozen swamps and flowages, rocks or ruts, or standing crops and closed gates.

Also, road ditches can have obstacles such as culverts, signposts and rocks.

While snowmobilers wait for the arrival of cold temperatures, now is a good time to make sure registrations are current, snowmobiles are in good operating order, review safety training, and check local trail maps for route changes or new trails.

Registrations for new snowmobiles must be purchased in person at any deputy registrar of motor vehicles or at the DNR License Bureau in St. Paul. Renewals of registrations and out-of-state trail stickers may be done in person, or online at licenses.dnr.state.mn.us/.

Minnesota has over 22,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails; more than 21,000 miles of them are maintained by local snowmobile club volunteers.

Snowmobile trail maintenance costs are

partially funded through the combined snowmobile registrations and trail sticker sales, and state gas tax attributed to snowmobile use. Donations and volunteer work by trail clubs make up the remainder of the costs and efforts to operate these trails.

Trail users are always encouraged to call in advance or research online to get local conditions for the area they plan to ride. State trail conditions are posted each Thursday on the DNR website at mndnr.gov/snow_depth/index.html.

Morrison County Sheriff’s Office

November 23, 2018: At approximately 2:42 pm, there was a report of a one-vehicle rollover near the intersection of Balcony Road and 60th Street, approximately three miles northwest of Upsala, MN in Elmdale Township.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Carter Loven from Swanville, MN was traveling north on Balcony Road.

Loven’s vehicle went into the ditch, hit a road approach and rolled. Loven was transported to St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance with unknown injuries.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Upsala Fire Department, Upsala First Response Team and Gold Cross Ambulance.

CentraCare launches new CareFinder app to help patients find the right care at the right time Sometimes just figuring out where and when to get care for that persistent cough, sore throat and fever, or a sprained ankle can be confusing. And what if it’s a Saturday or a holiday?

Now there’s an app for that.

The new CareFinder app from CentraCare Health helps patients navigate their care choices in the CentraCare Health service area. The app, which is free to download, helps users triage their symptoms and points them to the appropriate level of care. It even lists options from least expensive to more expensive, according to where the user lives, and gives them easy access to maps and contact information for the appropriate care choices.

“Sometimes it’s hard to know whether a child’s illness or a sports injury or some other problem can wait 24 hours for an office visit, or if it really needs more immediate care,” said Scott Rahm, MD, Family Medicine Physician.
