Develop success habits of millionaires -By Harvey Mackay

November is National Entrepreneurship Month, which in my world is the next best thing to a national holiday.

Entrepreneurs are the backbone of American business. They take risks with their ideas, money and reputations, believing that their efforts will pay off even when no one else has confidence in them.

This month honors those who support entrepreneurship, business, innovation, and new jobs as well as promoting entrepreneurship to America’s youth. We need young entrepreneurs to replace older generations and continue to innovate.

I wanted to be an entrepreneur even before I could spell the word. I dreamed of owning my own factory, long before I knew what that factory would produce.

I envisioned my success and looked forward to the day that I could share it with my employees. Through the ups and downs, I was determined. I made my share of mistakes, tried to learn from them and moved on.

My story is hardly unique. While there were few resources out there for dreamers like me at that time, the landscape has changed. Marvelous advice from very successful people is readily available.

One new book in particular caught

my attention, and I am excited to share some of its wisdom. I am referring to Dean Graziosi’s “Millionaire Success Habits,” which hit the street last week.

I would have given an arm and a leg to read it when I was starting out in business and life. This month Dean is running a special promotion where you can get the hard cover copy for free. You can get all the details at www.MshSuccessbook. com.

Dean’s premise is that you can make “barely-noticeable, small shifts in your daily routines by nudging out those things that don’t serve you and replacing them with habits that create a path to wealth and abundance.”

It doesn’t matter, he says, whether you are an entrepreneur, a business owner, an executive, an investor, an employee or a young person just starting out in your first job. His book focuses on financial success, but he also emphasizes fulfillment in other areas of life, including family, parenting, friendships, relationships, spirituality, health, physical fitness, love, and passion.

Through stories of his own challenging past, Dean illustrates how small changes turned his life around.

“It’s like removing a battery and putting in a new one. . . You don’t have to add time to learn new habits; you just have to replace the old habits.”

But first, you have to decide what you want out of life. Too often, we can define what we don’t want, but can’t really figure out where we want to go.

He says, “It doesn’t matter how fast you can go, it doesn’t matter how

much passion you have, and it doesn’t matter how much energy you put into something. If you don’t have a vision and clarity about the destination you want to reach, you’ll simply never get there.”

His conclusion: “When you focus on the outcome rather than the obstacle, your life will never be the same.” This is goal-setting on steroids! As a goalsoriented guy, I’m endorsing this advice whole-heartedly.

The next key component to turning your vision into reality is to identify your “why” – why do you really want what you are looking for? Dean shares a “seven levels deep” exercise that gets at the heart of your “why” that anyone can follow. He says it is the foundation Harvey Mackay continued to pg 5

Mice

In our memories and right up to the present day, there always were mice.

Those rather cute little creatures, which were residents in the grain shocks and also in our homes. We just accepted the mice in our grain shocks, but when they were in our homes we became concerned.

The mess they created with their dining and gnawing activities just didn’t fit with our idea of cleanliness in the home. Opening a silverware drawer in the kitchen and finding dirt and poop all over the drawer bottom made the lady of the house cringe. For many of us a snake causes us to jump and shiver, however the appearance of a mouse creates the same reaction with many ladies. Those beady little eyes peering at the lady from behind the curtain above the sink while she is working there, really disrupts her day. Her first reaction is to inflict severe bodily harm to the little creature. After it escapes, she then calls her husband to report the incident and informs him that something must be done about those darn mice.

The husband, who is naturally able to logically solve problems, talks to his buddies to see what methods they have used to solve a similar problem. He gets all kinds of advice, starting with traps and whether he should use cheese or peanut butter as bait, including the best locations for the traps. Some of the guys used poison in the form of decon or bar bait. Since they have domestic pets, that solution is not good in their home.

Some of the older fellows told about their Grandfather’s trap, used in the feed storage areas. Mice need shelter, food and water. The feed storage area provides food and shelter, which leaves the need for water. The old method was to put about an inch of water in a 5 gallon pail. Than lean a 1x2 board against the side of the pail to create easy

access to the water in the bottom of the pail. When the mice jumped into the pail to get a drink, they can’t jump back out. This works during a time when the water doesn’t freeze.

If there are mice in the garage, they have found shelter, so the water trap will work, but during freezing weather, a slight change in method will work.

Still using the 5 gallon pail and the access ramp, put some bird seed in the pail and place a board covering the top of the pail leaving only a 1 inch space by the entrance ramp. To make this more effective sprinkle a little bit of bird seed on the entrance board top.

Placing a mixture of flour and baking soda in a small dish will cause the digestive track of a mouse to expand and since they can’t burp, they’ll die.

The problem with this method is that you are then left with mice carcases, which may not be found before they stink.

A sticky trap is available and it does work quite well. The advantage is that the lady will throw the carcass and the trap into the garbage without having to touch the cute little mouse. The disadvantage with this method is that it is quite expensive and when considering the number of mouse inhabitants, it may require many sticky traps.

Mice have infested our space for centuries. We have used cats, ball bats and traps to get rid of them, but their ability to multiply nullifies our efforts.

This year the mouse population is very high. The best solution seems to find where they are entering your building and block it up with wood, metal or steel wool. They don’t always enter at ground level, they may go from a branch to the roof, crawl up under the shingle valley and enter the home.

to all success and possibly the most important millionaire success habit you can develop. And he advises that you should do the exercise four times a year, just to stay on track.

Another concept that Dean identifies as an important success habit is this: “When it comes to your clients, be in the relationship business, not the transaction business. People will refund a transaction, but not a relationship.”

Regular readers of my column will recognize this idea, which I refer to as “humanize your selling strategy.” You have to get to know your customers as people first, or you will never be able to relate to their needs any better than the next salesperson.

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of James “Jim” Huls, 72, Avon, was held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel.

Fr. Eugene Doyle officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery with military honors. Jim died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Jim was born on July 11, 1944 to Arthur and Sophie (Skaj) Huls at home in St. Wendel and was raised alongside his sister and four brothers. After graduating from Holdingford High School, he entered the US Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Jim liked golfing and sports in general.

He played baseball and softball when he was younger and enjoyed watching professional football and baseball on TV. Jim even rode a bull in a rodeo after being dared to do it! He was a naturelover who loved living on the lake. Jim liked to watch the ducks and squirrels on

the lake, enjoyed the scenery from his living room window, and liked hosting the family’s 4th of July parties. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting and using his crossbow. He also liked to play cards, especially poker, and enjoyed his Wednesday afternoon poker games with his retired buddies.

Jim worked as a carpenter his entire adult life and often served as a superintendent.

He started at Brutger Builders and later worked for Winkelman Builders, Shingobee Builders, and was also selfemployed 10 years. Jim was a gruff teddy bear with a heart of gold. He would “say it like it is” but had a generous spirit and would help any and everyone. Jim was very dedicated to his parents and loyal to his country. He is a member of St. Columbkille Church and the Holdingford American Legion.

Jim is survived by his siblings Judy (Lenny) Heitzman, Avon; David (Darlene) Huls, Avon; William “Bill” (Marcia) Huls, Cold Spring; Mel (Roxie) Huls, Cold Spring; Glen (Jan) Huls, Avon; many nieces and nephews as well as other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur in 1988 and Sophie in 2004, his niece Tina Huls, and his special friend Jill Walker.

November 22, 2016 at the Church of All Saints – St. Mary in Holdingford. Father Greg Mastey will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Catherine and Hattie, and eight brothers, John, Joseph, Blaise, Edwin, Albert, Andrew, Lawrence and Nicholas.

Carolyn Suska

Carolyn Suska, 62 year old resident of Bowlus, MN died Wednesday, November 9 at her home in Bowlus, MN. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 12 at at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Joseph Herzing officiating. The burial was held privately at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery North of Little Falls, MN. Carolyn Gloria Suska was born March 28, 1954 to the late Clarence and Esther (Gwost) Stanek. Her childhood was spent in Sobieski and she graduated from Little Falls High School in 1972. She later moved to St. Cloud and Minneapolis before settling in Bowlus after marrying her childhood sweetheart, Robert (Bobby) Suska on October 4, 1974 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski. Carolyn and Bobby resided in Bowlus for 40 years and happily raised three children together; Brock, Tami and Tracy. Later in life,

Carolyn returned to school and attended St. Cloud State University where she earned her degree in Community Health.

Carolyn was employed by Morrison County Public Health for over 25 years and contributed to many community projects and initiatives. She enjoyed gardening, music, good books, bike rides down the trail, decorating and planning family celebrations. But most of all, her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Esther; beloved sister Janet Olson, and father-in-law George Suska, Sr. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 42 years, Bobby; her children, Brock Suska (Marin) of Delano, Tamara Evenson (Scott) of Andover, Tracy Czeck (David) of Baxter; her adored grandchildren: Claire, Wyatt, Mallory, Cate, Rain, Oliver and Penelope; motherin-law Betty Suska of Little Falls, sister Marie Gerads (Ron) of Elk River, sister Lois Landin (Fred) of Minnetonka, brother John Stanek of Minneapolis, brother Robert Stanek (Jeanne) of Champlin, brother-in-law Bruce Olson of Swanville, many in-laws, nephews and nieces. Sylverius F. “Syl” Rademacher Sylverius F. “Syl” Rademacher, age 91 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre,

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Mitchell Bechtold officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.

Sylverius Francis Rademacher was born February 4, 1925 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John and Anna (Froehler) Rademacher.

He was united in marriage to Beatrice Austing on June 15, 1949 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. The couple lived on a farm south of New Munich until their retirement in 1989 when they moved to Melrose. In 1999, they moved to an apartment in Meire Grove. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Syl enjoyed farming, traveling, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

5 Conversations Not to Have at the Thanksgiving Table

By DaveRamsey Chew with your mouth closed. Keep your elbows off the table. And don’t talk about politics, religion or money at family get-togethers. Even though we all know these unspoken rules, they’re hard to follow - especially the one about money.

But Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, not to stir the pot. This year, have a more peaceful celebration by banning these five money conversations from the dinner table.

1. Big Purchases: If you’re doing well, that’s great. Just be careful not to go on and on about your new pre-owned car or your discount cruise to Alaska. No one likes a show-off.

That doesn’t mean you have to apologize for your success. But don’t throw your purchases in the faces of family members who aren’t there yet. If they want to know how you saved up for that luxury car, or how you scored such a great deal on vacation, tell them after dessert.

Who knows? It may just be the motivation they need to begin their own journey toward financial peace.

2. Money Troubles: Without fail, your little brother always finds a way to complain about his low-paying job, his overdue credit card bills, and his expensive divorce. This is not a pity party!

This is a G-rated family meal.

So before his whining session begins, head him off with an act of kindness. Why not offer to send his resume to a few friends, or to pay his way through financial counseling?

3. Personal Loans: Your crazy Aunt Beth shamelessly asks you for a loan every, single year. Forget that she already owes you for her cat’s emergency surgery last summer.

Family loans are a bad idea. If Auntie B is going through a legitimate rough patch (and you have the cash to help her out), give her the money as a gift.

But don’t expect anything in return. If you’ve already messed up and loaned her money in the past, consider writing it off and then politely telling her your banking days are over.

Just do this in private. There’s no need to embarrass her in front of the whole family - even if she brings it up.

4. Business Opportunities: Everyone has a shady Cousin Phil. You know the one; he knows a guy who knows an investor who knows about a hot, new startup looking for some seed money.

And it’ll only cost you $5,000 - what a deal!

There’s usually not a lot of reasoning with the Cousin Phil’s of the world.

There’s just avoidance and changing the subject. What else does he like? Cars?

Football? Bass fishing? Have a go-to subject ready to distract him until everyone is stuffed and headed to the den for the big game.

The Grey Eagle/Swanville Knights of Colunbus Council recently donated $3000.00 to 5 Seminarians who are studying for the Priesthood. Ken Sinclair and Ralph Wolbeck delivered the checks to Father Scott Pogatschnik, Director of Vocations, at the St. Cloud Diocese Vocations Office. The local Council started to support Seminarians when it formed in August of 2008. Since that time, the Council has donated $26,000.00 to assist young men that are studying to become Priests. For the past several years, the local Council has been the Top Council in the State of Minnesota in terms of the amount that is given to help these Seminarians. Submitted by Ken Sinclair.

On Saturday, November 12th Word of Life Church in Upsala held a craft and bake sale. One of the features at the craft sale was a ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin contest’ for a pumpkin grown by one of the vendors. The pumpkin weighed 60 and three quarters pounds. The winner of the contest was Beth Swanson of rural Burtrum with a guess of 57 pounds. She won a pint of sorghum syrup.

5. Unsolicited Advice: We know you’re excited about getting out of debt.

But the quickest way to turn someone off to financial advice is to beat them over the head with it. If you’ve been living and spending differently, your family will notice.

When they’re sick and tired of being broke, they’ll ask for suggestions. Until then, don’t nitpick every financial mistake they make. Even though you may genuinely want to help, criticism will make them resent you even more.

Find a way to be positive about your situation, without being negative about theirs. Be gentle and empathetic. Chances are, you were in the same spot a short

In God’s Word hope is always directed to “something or Someone we can believe in that will eventually come true.” It is something - God’s Word. Then there is Someone - God’s Son. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” We can believe in and have confidence in Him because what He said about Himself came true. “I will rise again in three days.” And again, His-story records it factually and accurately.

A famous heart surgeon once said, “Christians who have hope will find that their hope in God is far more reliable and will do more for them than any medication I can prescribe or any procedure I can perform.”

However, I think selling your home is going a bit too far at the moment.

Despite a really rocky road the last several years, the housing and real estate market is finally starting to rebound. At this point, there’s every indication that your home is going to go up in value.

If you go with your plan, you’re going to lose all that appreciation value and lower your standard of living at the same time.

While you have something of a modest income, I think you make enough money to pay off the house and become prosperous during the next five to seven years, without going to the extreme.

Dear Dave, My husband and I are selfemployed, and we currently pay almost $1,000 a month for health insurance.

I’ve heard you talk about the potential for rates to increase as much as 40 to 60 percent next year. Are there other options, such as just saving the money in case of medical emergencies?

-Anna Dear Anna, You don’t want to go completely without insurance, because you’ll get penalized by the government.

Remember, when it comes to health insurance, the problem usually isn’t a kidney stone or a trip to the emergency room for a few stitches. The problem is a cancer diagnosis, which ends up costing $500,000 or more.

You might want to check into an HSA (Health Savings Account) type of plan within the exchanges. Another thing you could look at is one of the medical sharing programs through a Christian organization such as Christian Healthcare Ministries.

But a higher deductible, HSA-type plan might help keep your premiums down. It’s sad, but this is what Obamacare has done to independent people like you and me who are self-employed.

It’s destroying small group plans, and I guess that was their intent. I suppose they wanted to put those companies out of business, so the government could take it over.

The meeting of the Burtrum City Council was called to order at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 by Mayor Ron Strassburg.

Those in attendance included, Ron Strassburg, Kaitlynn Bollig, Deb VanHavermaet, Anna Payne, and Kevin Wunderlich.

The minutes from the October 3, 2016 meeting were read and approved by a motion made by Anna Payne and seconded by Kevin Wunderlich.

The finance report was read and approved by a motion made by Deb VanHavermaet and seconded

by Anna Payne, upon vote motion carried.

The city discussed the bills and upon a motion made by Kevin Wunderlich and seconded by Anna Payne the bills were paid.

Next, the City Council discussed old business including increased numbers of vehicles in resident’s yards. As a friendly reminder, the City Council would like to remind residents that all vehicles should be licensed, current on tabs, and registered.

The City Council then discussed new business including the upcoming fire contract meeting, the potential of bring natural gas to the city, and the transition of switching financial institutions.

The City then discussed changing the required number of signatures needed to make changes at the banks. The decision was made that only one signature from the City Clerk or Mayor was necessary for all areas other than signing checks. Mike stated that if it needed to be done it would only be a matter of time(now or next year). Ray made the motion to get the brushing done.

Recreation Board: Report submitted. The southeast corner of the rec building has a water runoff issue. The council will deal with this issue in the spring.

the final budget with expenses of $410.192, debt service of $100,329, and revenues of $58,099, 2nd by Maciej. Motion carried unanimously.

Great River Regional Library Contract: Stevens explained the GRRL’s desire is to have one uniform contract with all the cities in its system. Many of the cities met with GRRL to review and edit the proposed contract. Now it is up for council review.

Certify Past Due Utilities: Lange moved to adopt resolution 2016-11-1 A Resolution certifying past due billings to the Morrison county auditor for collection with property taxes, 2nd by Maciej. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Johnson said he has talked with Mrs. Pazik, and explained that he will talk with each of the homeowners who need to take care of their yard in the spring before Cleanup Day, and will offer them support and possible help to clean up their yards.

Department Reports: Maintenance Report: Koopmeiners reported on the water and sewer levels.

Koopmeiners informed the council that a seal is leaking on the lift station. The service repairman should be here this week. Koopmeiners will have them go through both lift stations, since they have not been serviced for approximately 5 years.

Winter Holiday Lights will go up Nov. 19; and will be turned on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

In August, Minnesota Department of Health required the City to do lead and copper testing in five different locations. The reports came back; we have not exceeded any levels and are well within our limits for both lead and copper. We will test again in three years.

TZD Puts Safety Messages on Overhead Electronic Message Signs Message Monday focuses on creatively changing driver behaviors The Minnesota departments of transportation and public safety recently launched a new Message Monday campaign using the state’s electronic message signs to bring attention to safe driving.

The signs, located above freeways and other high-traffic roads, already are used to display messages related to road conditions, speed limits, construction and DPS enforcement efforts. Message Monday will relay safety messages each week to start conversations that could positively change the state’s traffic culture.

“Since 2013, we have let motorists know that law enforcement was conducting extra enforcement for specific traffic behaviors, but now we are focusing on a second phase to change the culture around traffic safety in a more creative way,” said Kristine Hernandez, statewide Toward Zero Deaths program coordinator.

Fatalities have not significantly reduced in the past five years, she said.

The crash data led Minnesota to model what Iowa and other states are doing to tell motorists about seat belt use and the risks of distracted driving, speeding and drunken and aggressive behaviors.

“A reduction in fatalities and serious injuries will only occur if we use new and innovative ways to educate motorists on traffic safety risks,” said Jay Hietpas, MnDOT state traffic engineer and

A recent U.S. Department of Transportation report about the public’s perception of safety messaging showed that between 45 percent and 68 percent of travelers indicated that safety-related messages caused changes in their driving behavior.

Messages that could show up on the signs include “Driving drowsy could wreck the holidays,” “Friends don’t text friends who are driving,” and “Turn signals – the original instant message.” On Monday, the message was “Don’t fumble your life away. Buckle up!”

The messages will focus on the emotional ties of traffic safety with an emphasis on positive messages that stimulate safe and acceptable rules of driving behavior. Creating a traffic safety culture to reduce fatalities and crashes is the mission of the Minnesota TZD program.

There are 180 dynamic message signs in the Twin Cities’ Metro area and 100 in Greater Minnesota. About half of the signs in the Twin Cities will display Monday Messages during the off-peak hours on Mondays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and after 7 p.m. on roadways that have higher traffic. In other locations, the messages will be displayed between midnight and noon.

Traffic management messages will take priority over those about safety, Hietpas said.

MnDOT is an anchoring partner of the state’s TZD traffic safety program.

A primary vision of the TZD program is to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota in which motorists support a goal of zero road fatalities by practicing and promoting safe and smart driving behavior. TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes – education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency medical and trauma response.

November 7, 2016: At 20:41 Todd County Sheriffs Office received a call of a burglary that occurred at an address on 130th St. in Grey Eagle TWP sect 08.

November 11, 2016: At 13:34 the Todd County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle accident on County 2 near Basswood Dr. John Laing, 72 of Albany, was traveling W on County 2 when a deer entered into the roadway.

John swerved for the deer and drove into the westbound ditch causing moderate damage to his vehicle. Petries Towing retrieved the vehicle. There were no injuries during the accident.

Benedictine Migrations Local Archivist takes the audience on a tour of St. Cloud and St. John’s Peggy Landwehr Roske, archivist at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University, will present Benedictine Migrations on Wednesday, December 14 at 9 a.m.

The Benedictines came to St. Cloud in 1856 and settled in Collegeville in 1866, 150 years ago, to serve the German and other immigrants of Minnesota. Using historical maps, images, and accounts, Peggy Roske will take the audience on a virtual tour of those early years in St. Cloud and in what’s now known as St. John’s Arboretum.

Roske grew up in St. Cloud, was in the last class to graduate from St. Ben’s High School before it closed and graduated from at the College of St. Benedict in 1977. With her Master’s from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she

November 8, 2016: At approximately 3:45 pm, there was a report of a two vehicle accident with injuries on Dove Rd, approximately 5 miles north of Randall, in Cushing Township.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kevin Borst, age 55 of Pillager, MN was traveling north on Dove Road in a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van. Borst stated he was reaching for some trail mix when he ran into the back of a dump truck driven by Bret Olson, age 50, of Freeport, MN. Borst suffered minor injuries and was taken by family to seek medical treatment. Borst’s vehicle was totaled.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Randall Fire and Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance.
