O & G Festival Names 2018 Man of the Year

David Freshwater has been named the 2018 Oil and Gas Man of the Year by the West Virginia Oil & Gas Festival board. In addition to being recognized during a luncheon on Saturday, September 15, Freshwater will serve as grand marshal of the traditional festival parade that afternoon. The 50th annual West Virginia Oil & Gas Festival will take place September 13-15 in Sistersville. Attractions include oil and gas exhibits, entertainment, craft booths, demonstrating crafstmen and games. David Freshwater grew up in Reedy, West Virginia, and was

introduced to the oil and natural gas industry by his father (who worked for South Penn Oil and its predecessors) at a very young age. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1963, enlisted in the US Army and served in Viet Nam. Upon discharge from the US Army, he began his search for his work career. After working for Viscose, Purity Bakery, Hope Gas, Ayward Pursley Well Service and others, he began to recognize his career path would be in the oil and natural gas industry. In 1970 at the age of 25, Mr. Freshwater founded David A.

Freshwater Well Service (later known as Petro Services), a conventional well servicing company. In 1974, Freshwater was David Freshwater approached by Reeves Lewenthal, a U.S. art pioneer turned oil and natural gas developer, to lease and develop oil and natural gas properties. IOGAWV Summer Meeting Draws Leaders Nearly 400 members of the Independent Oil and Gas Association of West Virginia (IOGAWV) and their guests enjoyed several days of sporting activities, entertainment and educational sessions at the 43rd Summer Meeting at The Greenbrier in early August. Our members and their guests enjoyed friendly competition at the trap and skeet tournament, tennis tournaments and golf tournament. Those not participating in athletic activities had a wonderful opportunity to learn an intuitive painting technique and take home their creation. Monday’s business and educational sessions included: remarks from U.S.

Senator Joe Manchin; video messages from U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Congressman David McKinley; a presentation by Chevron Appalachia LLC President Stacey Olson; a program update from BrickStreet Insurance Senior Loss Control Specialist Mike Dragovich; remarks from TransCanada Business Manager, Commercial East-U.S. Pipeline, Shawn Tolle; and a WVDEP/EPA Update from Secretary Austin Caperton. Tuesday’s sessions included: guest speaker West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey; Brian J. Anderson, Director, WVU Energy Institute, on the Appalachian Storage Hub; and an update on

the Shell Cracker Plant in Potter Township from Michael Marr, Business Integration Lead, Shell Chemical Company; “Standing Up: A ConvenKevin Ellis tional Natural Vice President and Gas Company Program Chair in a Low Price Environment” from Core Appalachia CEO Jim Rode; and a legislatie update from IOGAWV Executive Director Charlie Burd and Philip A.
