As long-time residents of Palm Beach County, we share a passion for making Palm Beach the most livable county in the State of Florida. And livability means all those who live here deserve a place to call home.

“Stepping up to the Challenge” is not just a slogan; it is a movement.

Hundreds of people have committed to the mission to end homelessness.

Various agencies, their employees, and teams of volunteers work tirelessly throughout the year to secure homes for our fellow citizens. Today, at the Lewis Center Luncheon, we take a moment to recognize their work.

The Lewis Center is a unique partnership of homeless service providers – all working to put people on the path home. It is the county’s centralized resource hub for those looking to change their lives. The Center can provide temporary housing, job training, and case management which, for hundreds each year, leads to placement into an apartment or house.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our host committee for their dynamism, hard work, and community outreach. This room is full today because of you! Thank you to our sponsors who support this event, which recognizes their positive contributions to our community. We are honored to convene at this year’s Lewis Center Luncheon to commemorate the invaluable progress made by those devoted to ending homelessness in Palm Beach County.

On behalf of our family , thank you for attending the virtual 10th Annual Senator Philip D. Lewis Center Luncheon. We would also like to thank Lewis Luncheon Event Committee and dedicated staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts in orchestrating this 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Senator Philip D. Lewis Center Luncheon.

Our parents, Philip Lewis and Maryellen Howley Lewis would be so proud of the accomplishments the Homeless Coalition and the Lewis Center has achieved over the past 10 years. Phil Lewis’ vision with the help of many was to “work together to end homelessness in our community.” He was committed to ending homelessness in our community, one home at a time.

Phil Lewis said. “For many, Homeless is not a choice; anyone of us can be homeless”, especially as life changes and changing economic issues. As a society we must insure everyone has a place they can call HOME. The Lewis Center is a blessing to our homeless families and this community.

Thanks to the many public and private partnerships, the Homeless Coalition, makes every homeless person or homeless family count. This community has a history of generosity and compassion and we hope we can count on you to come together to tackle this complex social issue. You hold the key to open the door to their new home.

WELCOME! On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, welcome to the 10th Annual Senator Philip D. Lewis Center Luncheon. Thank you for helping us celebrate another year of changing lives in our community.

The goal of this luncheon is to positively impact the lives of homeless children, women and men by Paul Dumars, Jr. funding their move-in costs through our Creating Housing Opportunities Program. Since 2014, we have invested over $1 million in housing over 2,300 people. Thanks to you, and your support of today’s event, we are able to continue our efforts.

The Lewis Center has been a success because of the collaboration of its partners. Thank you to Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, Gulfstream Goodwill Industries, Health Care District of Palm Beach County, The Lord’s Place, Palm Beach County Homeless Services and many others. Through these cooperative partnerships, a significant impact is being made on the state of homelessness in our community. Their determination has helped restore thousands of people experiencing homelessness to self-sufficiency, but the sheer volume of people in need outstrips our budget and resources.

This is why the Homeless Coalition is committed to expanding its efforts and increasing the resources available in our community.

We ask you today to be part of this mission. We know that creating very low-income housing is an expansive and expensive undertaking which will require help from all of us. We must work with business, government, philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and individuals to realize our shared goals.

Will you join us? Will you step up to the challenge? You can persuade your employer or employees to invest in ending homelessness. You can encourage companies to build real affordable communities. You can invest in ending homelessness. Together we are, “Stepping Up to the Challenge.”

WALK THE WALK CHAMPION OF THE HOMELESS LESLIE L. ALEXANDER FOUNDATION During these unprecedented times, the Leslie L. Alexander Foundation has recognized and applauded the hard work of local charities that are making a difference in the lives of so many.

Since January of 2020, the Foundation has made or directed donations to nearly 100 local nonprofit organizations, all in support of the health and wellbeing of area families and animals. The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County is truly grateful to be among the local organizations that has received the Foundation’s generous support. We are proud to name the Leslie L. Alexander Foundation as this year’s Champion of the Homeless.

COMMUNITY PARTNER OF THE YEAR FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, CHARITY, INC. (STAND DOWN) Faith Hope Love Charity, Inc. (Stand Down) mission is reintegrating displaced and at-risk veterans and their families back into the communities to sustain independent living, restoring their dignity and promoting community awareness.

Faith Hope Love Charity, Inc. offers a wide variety of programs to include: First Stop Veterans’ Resource Center, serves as the hub for Veterans’ services in Palm Beach County.

The center conducts outreach, engagement and referral activities for Veterans and their family members.

Stand Down House opened its doors in May 2000 to provide emergency/transitional housing and supportive services for veterans struggling with addictions, mental illness, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and physical limitations.

The objective of At Ease is to provide Veterans and their families solutions for permanent or temporary housing. Other services may include educational assistance, financial relief, health care, childcare services among many others.

Forward March program addresses the need for Veterans to obtain gainful employment at a livable wage. Offering job preparation, job skills training, placement services and job search activities customized for each Veteran.

The newest initiative is Village of Valor, breaking ground in 2021, will be a community of safe and affordable housing for our military heroes and their families who have given so much.

SENATOR LEWIS PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD FRANCKY PIERRE - PAUL Francky Pierre - Paul is the Founder and CEO of A Different Shade of Love. A nonprofit organization that strives to change the perspective of homelessness by providing not only much needed resources, but helping homeless neighbors gain back their confidence and their voice.

Driven by Love, he takes pride in providing the best version of himself so that others may benefit from it. In addition to his primary job functions, Francky has dedicated his life to humbly serving his community by sharing his testimony and how he overcame every struggle and life challenges. Francky devotes his time and energy on mending the broken hearted, speaking life into those who have lost their way. He strives in facilitating possible solutions to help alleviate homelessness in his community.

Francky has been recognized by Congresswomen Lois Frankel with the “Local Hero Award” for his extraordinary commitment to helping end homelessness here in Palm Beach County. To show his commitment to the community that he serves, Francky has held a number of events that has help change the narrative and conversations surrounding the issues of homelessness. Through partnerships, collaborations, and sponsorships, Francky has helped clothe our homeless neighbors, provide great quality food, and promote proper hygiene via showers, laundry, haircuts, and hygiene kits.

SENATOR PHILIP D. LEWIS CENTER The Senator Philip D. Lewis Center opened in July 2012 as Palm Beach County’s first homeless resource center. The Lewis Center is a central point of access for individuals and families seeking to end their homelessness. Here people get connected with supportive services and housing to restore them to self-sufficiency.

It was named in honor of Senator Philip D. Lewis, a longtime advocate for the homeless and those less fortunate. The Lewis Center provides temporary housing to individuals. Clients can stay up to 90 days. The Center can accommodate 70 people in the residential area and 6 in the transition area.

The Lewis Center has assembled a team of community providers, each offering a distinct service to meet the needs of those who seek assistance. These partners are on site to provide assessments and offer services available such as interim housing, medical care, life skills, job training and placement.

The 10th Annual Senator Phillip D. Since opening in 2012, The Lewis Center has helped over 40,000 men, women and children find the path to end their homelessness.
