Use up your old Quids With the new 12-sided £1 coin now in circulation, the current round version will stop being legal tender and so won’t be accepted in shops from 15 October 2017. After that, if you still have any old £1 coins, you won’t be able to spend them so check your piggybanks and coin jars as it’s all too easy to
squirrel money away and forget about it. Many banks and building societies will continue to accept the old pound coin even after 15 October if you are their customer but you will need to take them to your bank. The best option is to simply spend your old pound coins now and save yourself a journey.
Great success for Open Garden
Rewela Cottage, the garden of Daphne Ellis, General Manager at Home Instead Senior Care York, and partner John Plant, was open for the National Gardens Scheme again in May and July this year. In 2017 alone Daphne and John have raised a staggering £4,400 for the NGS charities, which include Macmillan and Marie Curie. This total will be added to the UK funds as a whole, of which they are hoping to raise over £2.6 million countrywide. With the help of friends and volunteers of the local village of Skewsby, the days out for the visitors are turned into
something just a little bit special. This really wouldn’t be possible without all the help Daphne and John receive on the day of the Open Gardens. Of course, it is the visitors that make the difference. This year around 700 people came to see the garden at Rewela Cottage. That’s more than 5,000 people, over the last 7 years the garden has been open to the public. It is the public’s generosity that creates the funds raised for the NGS charities. Thank you to those who have visited over the course of the last year, Rewela Cottage will be open once again in May and July 2018.
