Lorna follows Kerry in gaining CQC Registration Home Instead Senior Care York are delighted to announce that their plans to have two brand new Registered Care Managers with the regulatory body The Care Quality Commission (CQC), have been a success.

Last month the CQC ‘Outstanding’ rated home care provider shared the great news that Kerry Galloway had successfully had her application accepted to be registered and following this they wrote about how

colleague Lorna Hoegh was also in the process of going through her application to join Kerry as their second Registered Care Manager.

Home Instead are now able to confirm that last week Lorna had the fantastic news that her application had also been accepted by the CQC. Lorna and Kerry both joined Home Instead originally as CAREGivers back in

Holiday home great retreat as Lisa enjoys many beaches CAREGiver Lisa recently took advantage of our holiday home up in Amble, Northumberland.

With lockdown measures easing slightly, it would be great to see some of your pictures if you are heading out anywhere with your clients or even just pottering around in the garden enjoying the sunshine!

Home Instead CAREGivers make the perfect Care Friends

It’s people like you who make Home Instead special and enable us to do the very important job we do every day. We’re always looking for more amazing CAREGivers to join our outstanding team, people who make a difference to our clients and provide them with the best possible care.

You will already have a network of friends and family on social media who would make great CAREGivers.

To make it easier for you to refer people to us we are launching a new referral app called Care Friends and it’s really easy to do. Download the app from Google Play store or Apple App store and use the code hys-235.

Once that’s done you can start earning points and share our CAREGiver role with your friends.

You will get a point for sharing a job, 2 points for someone expressing an interest, 50 points when they complete the initial CAREGiver Programme, 75 points on completion of shadowing calls and a further 75 points when they reach 3 months in post. There’s even an additional 25 point bonus for anyone who is new to care.

The points add up and you can convert them to cash (1 point = £1) whenever you wish and we will pay you via payroll.

So get downloading, become a Care Friend, earn points and enjoy seeing our CAREGiver team grow.

Say hello to the newest member of the Home Instead York team, Preston...

Rachel last month completed her Basic Life Support, Train the Trainer programme with our National Office, meaning she is now fully certified to conduct basic life support training to the team using our CPR manikin ‘Preston’.

Rachel then put her new skills to the test by holding her first session with the office team, it was a great success and the team are now fully trained in CPR!

Crisis grants for care sector supporters The Care Workers Charity provides crisis grants to people who work in a paid role in the UK’s care sector and are involved in or support the provision of care. This includes people who have been involved in residential social care, home care, supported living care or day care.

Examples of a couple of the grants they offer are:

Covid-19 Emergency Fund The Covid-19 Emergency Fund is open to those who are currently employed in the care sector (as stated above) who must take time off work due to Covid-19 for either illness or self-isolation.

Crisis Grant Fund The Crisis Grant Fund is open to those employed in the UK social care sector in a role that is involved in or supports the provision of adult, elderly or disability care. This includes those who work in residential social care, domiciliary/home care, supported living care, day care, and private care.

Applicants must have experienced one of their qualifying circumstances in the past year that has caused significant financial impact.

Debbie goes from strength to strength CAREGiver Debbie came into the office last month to complete her annual appraisal with Rachel. We are super proud to have had Debbie as part of our fantastic team of CAREGivers for over four years now and look forward to having her for many more years to come!

Keep cool this Summer Lorna celebrates 5 years with HISC York This month Lorna celebrates 5 years with Home Instead Senior Care York. Lorna started with us as a CAREGiver back in 2015 but she quickly took on more responsibility in a more office-based role. Since then she has been excelling in her role as a Care Manager and was last month accepted by CQC in her registration to become one of our Registered Care Managers. Congratulations Lorna!

Most of us welcome the current hot weather, but when it’s too hot for too long there can be health risks. The elderly and the seriously ill are the groups who are particularly at risk of health problems. Knowing how to keep cool and hydrated during long periods of hot weather can help save lives.

Here’s some useful tips to remain healthy during the warmer weather: ❂ Shut windows and close curtains when it is hotter outside than in. You can open them for ventilation when it’s cooler. ❂ Stay out of the sun, particularly between 11am and 3pm. ❂ Keep rooms cool and have cool baths and showers or splash with cool water. ❂ Drink cold drinks regularly but avoid tea, coffee and alcohol. ❂ Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat if you go outdoors.

If someone does feel unwell, get them somewhere cool to rest. Give them plenty of fluids to drink and seek medical help if symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pain, confusion, weakness, dizziness or cramps get worse or don’t go away.
